Brann was one of the first drummers I got really inspired by as a kid when I first started playing. I got the record "Blood Mountain" and it opens with a drum intro and some serious ripping on "The Wolf Is Loose". Great times, greater drummer.
Same here, i remember i was in school playing that in the jam room one day and this random guitarist came in and was like wtf man you play mastodon? we ended up becoming good friends jamming mastodon together and all other bands. good times
I love the unstoppable rolling feeling I get from his playing. The first couple times I smoked weed I was basically in a trance listening to these guys. Highly recommend 👌
so glad you said it, ive always felt like his style/fills are so, driving. pushing forward, rolling type thing
One of the greatest drummers ever. He just gets better too, his vocals on the new album are astonishingly good.
the nuances in his drumming really do get buried in the mix often
Just came across you channel and love it. I really hope you get Brann on for an interview.
Good stuff man Brann is a god in my book, one of the dopest musicians in the world for me. Just saw them last week and Brann sounded great all show. Anyway good stuff, always happy to see Brann get love, great dude and musician and truly one of the most fun drummers to listen to.
Meh. Thomas lang would annihilate Brann as does Donati
So glad you did one of Brann's videos. He's such a goddamned good drummer.
His rolls are so fast and clean, he's a big fan of 70s prog drummers I believe.
You hate clowns? You should react to some clown core- "computers" for example. Amazing drumming!
Louis Cole is a beast
The first i saw Mastodon was supporting Slayer on the Christ Illusion tour in Brisbane, Blood Mountain had just come out so it was mainly tracks off that and Leviathan, I'd heard off them but not really listened to them, first track Brann blew my head clean off, I couldn't believe his attack, instant fan of him and the band.
Brann was in a band called Lethargy in Rochester Ny. Lethargy was pre Today is the day, pre Mastodon.
Awesome band
Brann spent all his per diem on drums at Dan Flashes. It’s only bargain bin but it’s still nuts.
Hes incredible. While you have guys like Danny Carey playing enormous kits with like 70 pieces, for Brann to do what he does with such a relatively small set up is nothing short of genius
The thing about danny though is that he uses EVERY part of his massive kit, which I find sets him apart from those other drummers that have a big kit but rarely ever uses every part of it
@im_in_immense_pain completely agree. Danny does have a need for every single piece he uses, and is an absolute superhuman
The finish on that kit is insane, awesome mix too.
His playing pre mastodon is insane. Look up Today Is The Day “In the Eyes of God’
record. He rips the whole thing from start to finish.
you are the voice of anxiety and i love it.
Just saw these boys live in Arizona 2 weeks ago. Fucking killed it live and Brann sang and it was epic
He just a solid dude all around and phenomenal Talent
So pumped for new Stray!
I think this is one of the best written albums of all time tbh
Currently wearing my OG blast beats tee today too 🤣🤘
His toms are mounted upside down. Never seen that before. Awesome!
The song with Scott Kelly is "crack the Skye" if you haven't seen their tiny bar concert with Scott Kelly you gotta check it out
just noticed he has his toms mounted upside down
Now that you’ve mentioned Josh Freese… pls do his drum cam video of “Wish” back when he was in NIN
Most of the song sounds like the intro to "wasted years" by Iron Maiden. Meets tool.
self taught natural tight to get loose brann is the bollox
Next pod guest? Thanks for another great film Mr. Reynolds.
I love that Josh Freese joke!
I don't think he stops the double bass from 4:06 to like 5:30. Jesus... Brann is a monster.
Hammond organ.great sound.
Of course this is the album, that's the one that made me wanted to write shit again....and run 10KM
Can’t wait fir a JP Gaster react.
bro, wolf is loose, megalodon, capallarian crest (runner up pick march of fire ants). goated drummer.
Incomparable
Your not wrong, crack the Skye is fine record indeed
Yo that kit is absolutely gorgeous... wtf.
🔥🔥🔥
You don't listen to much of it do ya!
Frozen ripped off Quintessence with "Let it Go”
I can vividly remember what I was doing when I first listened to this album. Everything stuck with me that day.
Please do one reaction video with George Kollias
He is next level with his fills
All Bran does are endless rolls. Only a newbie thinks that's "next level"
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 Only a newbie thinks his fills are only endless rolls.
@@hammerandgrease They are.
Only a moron doesn't know that. I've got 32 years experience.
You? ;)
Bro you need to save your twitch live streams man
:D
Brann is a great song writer I'll admit but his drumming is all the same.
Just endless rolls and fills.
He never just stays in the pocket
Brann is an extremely talented drummer but there is absolutely no variety in his fills. I feel like he could be on an even higher level if he switched them up. Great sounding drums and cymbals as well.
That's his thing man, the relentless blistering 16th note fills.
@@lastditch727 I know, just wish he’d go in a different direction. Every mastodon song sounds just like the other because of those fills. I’m sure it has something to do with him being the singer but I don’t know bro. I feel like he’s put himself in a box due to his lack of variety.
Makes it feel stale to me after so many years.
Exactly drum noobies think he's a drum god but all his drum fills are the exact same each time.
Endless rolls.
@@lastditch727 Yeah but noobies like you think that's next level.
Nope. He's just rolling them toms over and over.
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 noobie? You are an idiot. I love how people throw insults around on yt for absolutely no reason. You don't know anything about me or my drumming. I just stated a fact, nothing less nothing more. I didn't say i like it, or i don't like. I didn't say it's good or bad. It's just his thing. Single stroke rolls, and he's found great success doing it. Why do you think it's ok to insult me over this comment? I'm interested to know.
A clown watching a clown. Cute.
Unfortunately this is where Mastodon peaked. I think the albums have steadily gotten worse since CtS. Brann’s drumming has gotten less creative as the albums go because his singing has taken priority and it makes me so sad bc he was my favorite drummer for a long time
@Stephen Hughes maybe just a tad unpopular for best album but i wouldn’t dare say its bad. Its there with leviathan/the hunter for me. Amazing but i wouldn’t say #1. All opinions though!
