- In this video you can see how to remove the alternator from the top on a 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3L.
Disconnect the wiring (13mm & 8mm) before dismounting the Alternator from bracket.
I have never seen such a clean motor on SAAB 9-5
Excellent instructions and video. My son and I changed out the alternator today. 2002 Saab 9-5 Turbo 2.3. Took at least 4 hours. Old alternator was soaked with oil from a rear engine leak. New alternator cost $125 at Auto Zone. I had all the tools. Battery now charges and car runs like a charm. thanks again.
William Kelner what a deal autozone charged me $206
William Kelner - what caused the engine leak? and how did you fix it? I am having similar issues. my alternator has seized up and had caused the serpentine belt to break. I'm afraid I may have the same issue and if so, will need to fix the leak otherwise a new alternator will get damaged again.
Thanks for posting. My alternator bolts and tensioner bolts were 8mm Hex, not 55 Torx (02' 9-5 Aero) Also found that when extracting the alternator between the engine compartment wall and intake manifold, just raise the engine further and it will come out easier.
For a 99-01, that is a very clean car, someone is taking care of it.
dude you've saved me from removal of the axle and exaust. thank you. also when pulling the alt up and out, it helps to have someone prying the engine away from the engine mount you removed the bracket from. gives you an extra few millimeters and that's all you will need
Thank You for the video. I believe this is the best way to remove the alternator from a 2000 - 2005 Saab 95. You saved me a lot of time and trouble.
Thank's you saved my night. I just changed the alternator on a 2002 9-5 2.0t vector and it worked perfectly, took about 4h 😀
oh man, I have to do this today, never done one before, but off I go, thanks for the help. cheers
I just got a 2005 SAAB 9-5. I usually figure out everything under the engine before I buy a car, but I just got a job and rushed to get the car. Today it was warm so I looked. I had alternator/battery problems with my last car, resulting me to change both multiple times. But I was looking, then I was like where the hell is the alternator. Then I see this part on the left side of the engine and was like no way. So here I am.
I just finished this job. No wonder SAAB went bankrupt, was the overall feeling. Every nut or bolt except the two upper, holding the alternator bracket, was either tightened as hell or placed by an idiot. I hate repairing this car. It fun to drive tho.
I was thinking that today. I quite like the car, but whoever engineered it was straight up malicious.
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent intstructions!! Thank you so much
Thank you for the video. The only thing that I was left wondering is that at what point did you remove the cables for alternator? Can I pry the alternator loose and get better visibility to cables or do I need to have removed them already?
3 years ago I had to do this to my old '00 Aero. I should have attacked it like that too, would have been done MUCH faster :D. Nice vid!
Hey dude, thanks for this vid! save me some time tracking down tools :)
Very helpful, thank you.
It's the same process on my 03 and 04 9-5's.
Make sure you remove the 1 mm off the casting lip of the intake manifold!
Great vid, unfortunately it will not work on U.K. cars owing to the brake servo and master cylinder being in the way.
I've heard most failures on alternators are the voltage regulators rather than bearings, etc. which only costs $40 to replace. Is anybody familiar with how to check whether these are good/bad? Thanks for the video BTW, very helpful, sure to save frustration and headache as I have to do this ...
id also like to know how to check
Great video, thank you very much for taking the time I will Subscribe
thank you for your time.
there are two hoses on the way one is soft second one is a harder plastic
did you you have to remove them and how without breaking the hard plastic one?
selim seker I just unplugged them and moved the. behind the throttle body for the job
great video
Thank you sir!
Just bought a 2004 9-5 arc which is the best way to remove and replace the serpentine belt? Mine broke
Спасибо за видео.
Thanks for the video. What was the total amount of time from removal to install?
nice job….
Hey I'm having hard brakes on my 2000 saab 9-5. Do u know if I need new brakes or a brake Booster or something is just loose. Please help
most likely breaks booster
My 2001 Aero has hard brakes, I was wondering the same but I notice that in Richard Hammond's review of the 9-5 estate that he says 'the brakes are there, you just have to push harder than you might expect'. So now I'm sure, maybe it's normal?
Wait.... What about the tensioner?
The tensioner is in the way you fail to mention how to keep the tensioner out of the way of said hole
How did u get the bottom alternator bolts lose
this has got to be the worst car to change the alternator on 4 Hrs!?!?!!!! wtf!
