You did it again! Since I ran out of my favourite black ink (H. Perle Noire) I have been looking for a replacement. Let me tell you, if you are in the market for a black ink go for this one: - Permanent - Dries fairly quickly - It doesn't bleed or feather at all... not even while trying to saturate the paper - Works on anything from copy paper to those fancy models - It is hecking dark Only downside: it takes more effort to clean I pulled the trigger after seeing this review and it is wonderful! Second time your lovely reviews helped with a decision (I was between this and x-feather) and once again, I regret nothing! Thank you o/

I had a cartridge of this ink that came with one of my Platinum Preppy pens. I really enjoyed that ink…not sure why I forgot about it-now I need to pick up a bottle. But I think the way you feel about Platinum Carbon Black is the way I feel about De Atramentis Document Black. I have it in two of my pens, pigment-based inks are such an important staple to have in your collection.
It is easy to forget with so many different inks coming out all the time. If it is De Atramentis Doc Black you prefer I think that is a great choice of a permanent black and there is no need to look anywhere else.

I just bought Platinum Chou Kuro from your Amazon Store for my Platinum 3776 Century - Amazing Price! Thank you. If you could do a review soon, I would appreciate it. I can send a sample vial, if you need. I am especially interested in a tidbit I heard about Platinum recommending the use of distilled water to clean the pen - something about the Chou Kuro color components possibly reacting with minerals in tap water. I am also interested in Chou Kuro's performance on Mead Five Star Composition Notebook paper. I am left-handed - so dry time date would be nifty - but I remember the guff folks gave about viscosity and dry time ink in some of the videos, and the impact that had on the standard format. Bummer. Best repository of ink data on the globe. I don't buy nothin' unless either you reviewed it - of it's on your store. "I know a guy - an ink guy. When it comes to ink, I don't make a move without consulting with my ink guy."

Exactly what a black ink should be, IMO. Yet there's plenty of greys being passed off as black, some for around a century or more. I get wanting shading and tone variation, just not in a black ink. This is one of my 2 preferred black inks. For similar reasons. Permanent and black as the Devil's heart. 😁
For me, it's not quite black enough, although it's high water-resistance means I do use it. Faber -Castel Carbon Black is, to me, a much more satisfying black.

Based on this review, I purchased a bottle of this black. Love the color (or absence thereof... ), but have found that in my new Platinum Century 3776 with a Coarse (BB) nib, this ink is drying out with the cap on! That's not what usually happens in these particular pens, as they say they can write up to 2 years. I can't speak to the 2 year mark, but the other 2 Platinum Century 3776 pens I've had, almost always write on the first stroke. I didn't see any of the "viscosity" or "drying time" numbers in this video. I was just wondering if this particular black since it's "Carbon" black, had some numbers that were off the charts one way or the other... ? Still like how dark this ink is, good purchase IMO. I just may not use it until I need a dark black for ... something besides normal day to day use. Thanks Adam 🙂
I tested the 2 year claim... it worked for me on 4 different pens. But I used a cartridge and perhaps it is you converter that has allowed the pen to have issues.
@@AnInkGuy I switched out to Akkerman's Shocking Blue (Great Dark Blue WoW!!!), and its dry time from your test -average 45 secs. I think the Platinum 3776 Century are great pens at a bargain price depending where you purchase. The're delightful :-). Enjoy the holiday season Adam :-)
Excellent review, in tune with my own experience. How about cleaning pens that have held this ink? Any problems or tips? I am wary of putting it into an expensive pen.
It is always good when people's experience with an ink matches up. I haven't had any bad experiences with this ink not cleaning out of pens or staining pens... but if it is a concern then I wouldn't leave a pen inks for a long time with it. Just so you can have peace of mind.

If I want more subtlety or want to load a waterproof ink or dilutions of it into a waterbrush, I go with Lexington Gray, another ink that you also like. I’m sure other commenters have told you about the Ink Miser already, but here goes anyway. It’s a small conical plastic open-top container with a small stand on the bottom. To prevent tipping over when filled with ink, I’ve attached it to an acrylic block (easy to find because they are used by people who like to use stamps). You can temporarily transfer ink to it for filling from an almost-empty bottle. (There’s also a similar product made to stay inside the ink bottle, sized for Noodler’s ink bottles.)
I find Aurora Black to be darker ... Only slightly darker than this ink. However, this is joined Sailor Standard Black. Nothing wrong with Sailor Standard Black, just that you can't have too many Black inks. But, I must admit that Sailor Black is smoother on FP friendly paper. All three are beautiful blacks. This ink has replaced Waterman Black. Waterman is well behaved but the colour of ink on paper is not Black enough.
Great review. I’ve not tried this ink. I use Noodler’s Black a lot. Could you make a recommendation between the two. How are they the same, how do they differ? To keep things simple, how do they compare on Clairefontaine for example.
I think either is a great choice... but I do think that the Platinum Carbon Black is just the slightest bit better when you are looking for resistance. And to be fair with Noodler's the are more ink for the dollar. For me if I had to make a choice, I prefer the Carbon Black.

Creators create mainly for themselves, but I really miss the old format. It was crisp, concise, highly informative and I seldom missed one. But now, not so much.
I had to stop the viscosity and dry time to gain the time back into my life. Those tests and calculations took a bunch of time that I now get to spend reading, painting and drawing. I missed out on a lot of painting and drawing over the last 3 years and really missed it.
@Jackie you are partially correct about the videos made, the part for myself is the videos and parts of videos that I DO NOT want to make I don't make. Change in important for me as the creator in order to not feel bored with making the videos I make. I change things up when I start to not want to make them because I start to feel like I am making the exact same video over and over again. So the change in necessary on my part in order for me to continue to make videos.

Comment should suffice relaying the same information in 20 seconds in the video. Besides a little bit change where you don't get bored and still enjoy making the videos are always good for the creator of the video. So keep up the good content creation and just ignore the negative comments from viewers that don't appreciate your videos. Besides, those viewers can just stop watching your content if they don't like the video and it's not as if you are forcing them to watch it. It was their choice to still continue watching. 🤔
Thanks, it does look very good. My ink buying credit card has stirred and is whispering. Is it OK to leave in a pen for a week or two without clogging it up please? And your handwriting is just fine! Much the same as mine. Kudos on being out there.
Jetpens recommends cleaning pens using this ink every 4-6 weeks. I use carts of this with Platinum's cheap-o plastic desk pen and clean the pen maybe 3 times a year, but would follow Jetpens' recommendation with any pen that cost more than $20.
It took you so long b/c your previous review was of Platinum Black (but confusingly labelled carbon black ) :) Yeah, the only thing I don't like about this ink is probably in my head, but it feels dusty when I pass my fingers over old pages as if the coal were flaking off...
On very thick lines, like from a fude nib or from a brick pen it can look a bit dusty. For artwork with a brush I have gone over it 2x to make it darker but for writing the distiness doesn't come across to me.
I think your demonstration of ink left in the bottle was a bit misleading. Platinum Carbon Black and their Classic Inks all come with intra-bottle wells to help access the bottle dregs.
You are correct, but it was an honest mistake. I forgot they came with that and I didn't keep the last one so it wasn't in the bottle (again my mistake). I feel very confident that with that the ink level would have been much lower.

This is very much a goto for me when I know I have a lot of writing on bad copy paper, it is also the ink I recommend most for that.

This is one of my black inks which is always in at least one of my pens always.
I love it for drawing... and is a goto favorite who I know I will need to be able to go back and highlight in notes.

I have no idea... I didn't do any viscosity tests and I haven't done any saturation tests.
