    Just a note for people saying that the horse is skinny: he’s not, thoroughbreds are lean, not skinny. Think about a human athlete; specifically sprinters/track people. Those people are slim and lean, but Strong af. They’re made for speed, so they’re naturally lean and ‘aerodynamic’.

    Thanks for this. The girth strap usually has short straps on one end and longer straps on the other end. I keep getting it mixed up as my trainer has told me either the short straps are supposed to be attached on either the left or right side. Can you clarify this point please? Thanks

    • @CareersInRacing
      @CareersInRacing  6 років тому +3

      Hi Mike, when girths are elastic on one side only, so the straps are shorter on the non-elasticated/just leather side. Traditionally you should always have the elastic on the left hand side (near side) of the horse. Hope this helps. CiR

    Stop freaking out. Most racing thoroughbreds are quite young which is why the horse is small. Also those things on the sides of the horse just by the looks of it and how dark they are, I am quite sure those are brindle markings.

  • @toastsandwichh5680
    @toastsandwichh5680 6 років тому +4

    Can everyone shut the fuck up about the horse's weight? This is a fit and healthy racehorse, why the hell wouldn't it be? You think the trainer wants skinny, malnourished horses, I don't think so. Thin racehorses don't win races, strong, fit ones do. This horse has bright eyes and a shiny healthy coat, yes you can see his ribs, but it doesn't automatically mean that a horse is unhealthy or not being fed enough. If this horse was really unfit and unhealthy there would be plenty of other signs to confirm it. Also just because your horse is a Thoroughbred doesn't mean it will look exactly like this one.

  • @Lupita-eu2xu
    @Lupita-eu2xu 4 роки тому +2

    This horse is on the leaner side but it’s because it’s “track fit” not because of being thoroughbred. Yes thoroughbreds are leaner but a normal riding thoroughbred shouldn’t be track fit

      Made you Look
      Racehorses are incredibly muscular with almost 0% fat under their skin when they are super fit. So their ribs are usually slightly exposed. A skinny horse wouldn't have all those nice muscles along its back, shoulders and hindquarters.

    • @Apassion4horses
      @Apassion4horses 7 років тому +1

      If anything slightly overweight for a race horse

    • @thomasfaltejsek
      @thomasfaltejsek 6 років тому +1

      No they do not have almost 0% fat, LOL. They do however have less fat than show horses or pleasure horses, many of whom are so obese they have metabolic disorders akin to human diabetes which can kill them. The body fat % of a race horse will usually be somewhere between 5 and 8% depending on how far along the horse's training is.

      Spaghetti pasta both are incorrect. This horse is in a suitable condition and weight for a young race horse. Young people are taught not to walk under a horse's neck because one has to be aware of the horse and it reduces accidents in riding schools with ponies. These horses are trained to cooperate with such an action and the handlers also are very experienced and 'read' the horse well so it is not a problem with them.
