I used to always find that I would put my close contact saddle way too far back, so I remember going into the ring and my trainer sliding my saddle up by like 6 inches XD (I was never really taught how to tack up unfortunately, I just kind of had to figure it out on my own)
Oh trust me, it still happens to me occasionally! i managed to twist a bit and have my instructor call that out a few months ago + help me set it right. I had taken it off to add the rubber bit guards and put it back on backwards - it was a new bit i hadn't used before so i got confused! Trainers are the best!
Their is this pony at my stable and she wears like a buckle on her back which attaches to her saddle and then hooks round her tail do you know what it is ??
Rosie Ferguson yes, that’s called a Crupper. It does a similar thing to the 5 point breastplate you see in this video, but instead of stopping the tack from sliding back (which a breastplate does) a crupper stops a saddle from sliding forwards :)
Thank you so much, I recently got a new loan horse and he's ridden in a breast plate. I had never used one before so I was quite lost when it came to tacking up!!!
Umm you have the same name as my friend 😂 hi if you are the anna in 8s message me hi on whatsapp im lottie in 8o im on my mums acc didnt know you rode tho 😂
Thanks so much for this I’m in my second semester of equine uni and all the horses there have a bunch of different tack the 2 horses I normally ride both have grackles and I’ve always just worked with very basic nose bands so this is very helpful! 😊
Congrats on hopefully sharing soon! I’m glad they are helpful. If there are things that pop up along the way that you wish you had a video on, please do let me know💫
Tysm, I just started getting into horse riding and I’m learning how to take apart and put together bridals and I chose one with a martengail and it was so confusing ❤
I do know how to do this however for anyone that doesn't or didn't your vlog is brilliant very informative and done slowly enough to see what to do. Well done.
This was SO helpful! I do know how to rack up but no horses at the yard I ride at wear martingale or grackle bridles! There is only one pony who wears but guards and I can never tack him up because of them! Thank you so much for making this video, I have left it feeling so confident! 😊
I'm a big fan of muckboots? Equus also have a bunch of different options and I have a 10% off code you can use on top, 'BARD10' - www.equus.co.uk/collections/womens-equestrian-yard-boots
Your videos are amazing but all I could think of when you were saying top to bottom is my Chinese teacher trying to teach us how to write using characters 😂
Here my dumb butt was near tears in the tack shed because I got my first 5 point and I couldn’t figure out how the heck to get it through the dee ring on the girth. I feel dumb but relieved that it’s the same as my initial martingale.
Yes! It looks like quite a contraption when you first see it doesn’t it! You’re right - Very similar for a martingale, just the extra straps around the top of the saddle and the sides of the girth ☺️
I know this is an older video but I have a question for anyone that can answer!!! I just got a standing martingale and I thought I heard that you cannot use it with a figure 8 bridle, which is what I have. I don’t understand why? I was hoping you were going to go into that in the video! Please help!!! Tia!!!
You shouldn’t attach a standing martingale to a grackle (figure 8 bridle) because, unlike a running martingale which attaches to the reins, a standing martingale sits on the back of the noseband. The grackle is what’s known as a “dropped” noseband which sits on a different part of the nose to a “standard” noseband (a cavesson). Therefore, attaching a standing martingale to it puts undue pressure and risk of injury on the nose and jaw of the horse because of where the grackle sits on the face. Standing martingales should only ever be used with cavesson nosebands for this reason.
Hahah this comment made me laugh! Thank you very much. Let me know if you need a video on anything else - i love to hear what everyone is struggling with.
Riding With Rhi u don’t have to do a vid on it but iv been riding for a year and only know basic terms and some others but I’m trying to learn them so if it’s a vid ur interested in doing then u can but u don’t have to if it’s boring coz I can use google 😂
today i almost died my friend fell off and i galloped in the main road with the horse behind without a rider we were jumping up and down stairs and worst part was i fell off bc a scooter on the road hit my horse and I WAS lost i went straight into the wall. IM LITTERLY DIEING INSIDE. IM NEVER GOING ON A HACK NOW
What other tricky pieces of tack have you been struggling with (or fondly remember struggling with in the past!)?

@@RidingWithRhi Thank you !!!
Exactly what I was looking for. We just started using a 5 point breastplate.

I identify with Ted in the background eating while people in the foreground are working
🤣 Ted is literally like “there she goes again...” 😂
thank you for this! my pony has only ever needed just a saddle and bridle, so i’ve never really put on harder tack!
My pleasure! It takes a moment to get your head around it.
Nice demo. Indeed!
Thank you soo much I always struggle with the martingale
My pleasure! I used to find it so hard too. Let me know if you have any questions once you've watched.

Thank you Millie! Bit guards can be a bit fiddly but once you get the hang of them you’ll be great.
Great video. Really intuitive.
Thanks Michelle - glad it was helpful ☺

@@RidingWithRhi I’ve been researching and came to the same conclusion. Thank you so much for the quick reply!!!
what is the thing called to the d ring called?
Attached to the d ring? The breastplate?
Riding With Rhi like the strap that’s attached to the bridge and d ring?
That’s part of the 5 point breastplate. It’s designed to stop the saddle slipping back
