Iris Hammond thank you. I love horses so damn much. When it comes to riding, I love riding bareback. The reason is because you feel everything that horse does. You feel every respiration as their lungs expand and contract. Every muscle movement. Every twitch. Every shake. Every step. You really feel it when they ascend and descend hills. People have the misconception in their heads that the most important part of a blind person’s perception is their hearing. This is not true. When it comes to working withhorses, the most important thing I can pay attention to is what I feel.
Iris Hammond you’re welcome. You may have to try and find a trainer, but there’s no pressure. I was just thinking of a solution. Enjoy living that ranch life as much as I do.

I’m quite poor and we don’t own any spare land. I’ve sold a lot of my old things for money to save up for a horse. But it’s never enough. It’s not everything is payed for once you get it I have a horse myself and costs are very high I really recommend waiting till your older please don’t get a horse if you can’t afford it
Even if your friend let you, you'd still have to pay for food which is super expensive (around 200$-250$ a month), vet bills (up to 15,000$), insurance (300$ per year?), tack (About 1000$ to begin with) and a farrier (Say 150$ every 8 weeks.) You must be prepared. And think about the downs, like what you'll do on vacation? What if your horse gets colic? Don't just jump right into stuff..
PepperMint A horse is very expensive, yes. I never got one either and we were not poor. But I am glad now, because horses are a lot of work for a long time. Have you thought about offering horse owners to take care of their horse? Sometimes horse owners can’t ride for a while or as often as they like to. In my country, they sometimes looked for girls or boys to take care of their horses and ride them (if they were old and experienced enough). Also we used to hang out at our riding school and do free labour a lot so we could hang out with horses. Those might be alternatives that give you a chance to interact with horses outside riding lessons.
Yeah, Claire Eventing keep making these videos, although 90% of people watching this video might already know every thing there are still a few people who have never ridden before and watch videos like this to get ready for if they do one day, and there are other people who come across daily problems. Also just because all the comments are from experts it doesn't mean to say all the rest of the 470,000 viewers are experts.
Thank you so, so much I was having difficulty getting my horse to put in his mouth piece without someone else’s help and to know how forward the saddle must be. This was the most helpful video I found (and I have watched many others). Highly recommended. ❤️
Very informative video and you are explaining it all really good and clear! However, I do disagree with a couple of things. First is I think your saddle is a little too far forwards, the girth could irritate the horses elbow and the saddle is tilted a little bit backwards. This could also be because the fit of the saddle isn't right for the horse, but I'm guessing since you're an experienced rider you probably know that the saddle fits you and your horse. The other thing is that from what I've always learned, you tighten the bridle too much. The idea isn't to force your horse to keep its mouth shut, but rather as a guideline. Anyways, cute horse and so well behaved!
i was thinking the bridle seemed a little too snug, but she seems to know her horse, and like you said, shes experienced as a rider and in tacking up that horse with that bridle. im sure she knows better than us about that specific situation
thank this really helped now i know how to tack a horse...i have my own horse its just that my parents/trainers pamper me too much so i never got to get the chance to tack my horse!but now that i told them how i feel about them tacking my horse,i can finally tack him :)
Am I the only one here who has zero experiences in horses and starting from scratch? Lol this is literally the first time I have watched anyone tack a horse. Great video!
You know I actually watched this video about a year and a half ago when I was about nine. Now, almost two years later I’m watching it again after I have my own horse, did dozens of competitions and shows, tacks up my horse a little differently, and I’m going back and watching this. Memories.
In reality, your horse should be able to be tacked up from both sides. It's just tradition to do everything from the left side. There was a person who trained her horse to lead from the right side then the left.
Excellent video Claire ! Thank you very much for such an up-close and detailed video with demonstration ! Me and my daughter, who has just started learning horse riding enjoyed the video very much and we watch it again and again to learn better. Although she hasn't advanced to tacj up a horse herself yet. She is just six years old, and quite new to horse riding, but hugely loving it ! Thanks. 😊
This was really useful for me, I’ve been riding for 2 years but only at a riding school so I’ve never learnt to tack up. It’s just the bridle that confuses me still (I’ve all ready had to watch this 5 times 😂)
if u feed them carrots, put sunflower over the carrots bedore u fedd them, ittl make he coat shinier* read in a book so dont think im a rich ass rider that has her own horse yas)
Am I the only one who is watching this but already knows how to tack up? 😂 ((And I cannot believe this is the first video of Claire I’ve ever watched))
Loved your trick used for bridling the horse. I always found as a short guy that doing it the traditional way required more of my height than was there. Nicely done!!!
I have been riding for eight years, but have never ridden English, very interesting! Thank you! I have only ever ridden others horses and I work on a farm (not ranch) and I have been saving up and am planning on getting my own horse soon! I enjoy your videos, and you have earned a subscriber!
I am advanced trail rider ,pole bender and barrel racer.i haven’t had very much experience in anything but a western/ranch saddle. I have always dealt like a goof posting. But the English saddle is so much faster to put on and so light. That’s great for me as I’m getting older (37) my abs, back. And knees hurt more then they did in the past. And my recover time is SAD. Lol Just got a nice soft. Anyway,I’m rambling! all I wanted to say this was a great video I learned a ton. Tanks
Why do u call it horseBACK riding, in England we call it horse riding, of course you ride the horse on its back, where else would you ride it!? It’s head!? 😂😂😂😂 no hate ❤️❤️❤️
Also there's Australian saddles, Mexican vaquero style saddles, sidesaddles , saddleseat types with cut out whither area, Spanish style ones, and other less common native traditional types, and race horse ones are really small pad like and flat
My daughters just started riding last week. They are 6 and 8 years old. The first two lessons teach to tack a horse. I was shocked at how many steps there are. Their second lesson this week they will have to tack the pony completely themselves. This video is extremely helpful in getting them prepared before their 2nd lesson. It was so incredibly informative. You explained it nice and slow for beginners. Thank you! Quick question. How do you know the girth strap is tight enough? Our instructor didn’t really explain.
i used to ride A LOT when i was younger, and always would saddle up my own horses,, but! i stopped for a long time lol, got older and lost some interest. i started back up again and forgot some things, this video REALLY helped!!

Penny Borading for life , all u do is start just before the knees than firmly wrap down to the ankle . Super easy. Hope this help
Start by or close to The knees and then wrap it by the ankles
I think the strap over the bit was looser than it looked because it looked like it could have tightened 1 or 2 holes if she wanted to
i was thinking the bridle seemed a little too snug, but she seems to know her horse, and like you said, shes experienced as a rider and in tacking up that horse with that bridle. im sure she knows better than us about that specific situation
the bridle was fine, it is made to stop the horse from sliding its jaw open and grabing the bit. search it up. micklem bridle use ;)
Yeah. I don’t ride much, but I did remember that when I do ride, the horse’s saddle is a bit farther back than in this video.
There is nothing wrong with this she knows her horse and what she's doing
thank this really helped now i know how to tack a horse...i have my own horse its just that my parents/trainers pamper me too much so i never got to get the chance to tack my horse!but now that i told them how i feel about them tacking my horse,i can finally tack him :)
damn you're lucky you got people to do it for you
Am I the only one here who has zero experiences in horses and starting from scratch? Lol this is literally the first time I have watched anyone tack a horse. Great video!
You know I actually watched this video about a year and a half ago when I was about nine. Now, almost two years later I’m watching it again after I have my own horse, did dozens of competitions and shows, tacks up my horse a little differently, and I’m going back and watching this. Memories.
I need some of the horse
In reality, your horse should be able to be tacked up from both sides. It's just tradition to do everything from the left side. There was a person who trained her horse to lead from the right side then the left.
Jamie Hayden I didn't say my horse isn't able to be racked up from both sides, he is. I just said I always start with the left side
Just Jumping I'm saying that in general. Tons of people only train their horse from left side and never from the right.
Audrey Muller I can read, can you? I clearly said 'IN GENERAL' meaning not directly to her. To the GENERAL audience.
Jamie Hayden I actually sometimes have to tack up from the right side sometimes because of the cross ties
She explained that anyway
I love this. Thank you! I grew up with English Pleasure but after about 23 years of not riding and starting over, this was PERFECT!
Great video, very educational. Btw those "girth straps" are called billets.
Horse girl to her mother : Mom I got my period
Mom : Here sweetie take this saddle pad
Ha lol
Haha 😂 i like your pfp😊💜
Ive done horse riding for 2 yrs now and loooooove it! I just got into the upper intermediate!
You are a great rider and a wonderful teacher thank you this video really helps!!
3:33 That cat, "Ahh crap a video camera I'm getting the heck outta here!"
*Walks away like a sneky cat*
Thank you! I've been doing this for a few years, it is the first time I have a clear clue to tack follow your video. Good job!
why am I watching this I’ve literally only been on a horse like 3 times
Carolyn Hu because you’ve only been on a horse 3 times
I feel like almost everybody that watched this already know how to tack up but just enjoy tutorials😁 Me included😉
Same
Yep
Excellent video Claire ! Thank you very much for such an up-close and detailed video with demonstration !
Me and my daughter, who has just started learning horse riding enjoyed the video very much and we watch it again and again to learn better. Although she hasn't advanced to tacj up a horse herself yet. She is just six years old, and quite new to horse riding, but hugely loving it !
Thanks. 😊
Great tutorial! Very detailed great for beginners! 👍I definatly think you should do more videos like this!
This video was amazing! It was very informative and easy to follow! You're very pretty and I love your horses coat color! ♥
ikr her horse is gorgeous!
He is such a good well-treated and well - tempered horse! ♥♥
This was really useful for me, I’ve been riding for 2 years but only at a riding school so I’ve never learnt to tack up. It’s just the bridle that confuses me still (I’ve all ready had to watch this 5 times 😂)
How do you keep your horses so shiny I swear I groom for hours and it's like they still have dust in their coat.
PugHorse you can’t
You can give them a bath
if u feed them carrots, put sunflower over the carrots bedore u fedd them, ittl make he coat shinier* read in a book so dont think im a rich ass rider that has her own horse yas)
THANK YOU. I'm riding English for the first time after riding western my whole life and this SAVED ME
Who’s watching this when they know how to tack up but just wants a horse real bad😥🙋🏽♀️
Yes me but no bit and no hurt
Me
Am I the only one who is watching this but already knows how to tack up? 😂
((And I cannot believe this is the first video of Claire I’ve ever watched))
Ive been riding for three years and i never knew about how tight a girth should be so thank you!
**When you’ve been riding for like 8 years but you still binge beginner tutorials just for fun
Well I was watching this video when I was tacking up my first horse for the first time and it really helped
I knew how to do this already but I just wanted to watch you Claire CUZ UR THE BEST HORSE GIRL EVER!!!!!!!
Beautiful horse! And thanks for the tutorial, I'm a newer English rider. :)
I want a Horse 😭
Same but I will get one when I finish college! :D
Same
Me too
I have 7!
Loved your trick used for bridling the horse. I always found as a short guy that doing it the traditional way required more of my height than was there. Nicely done!!!
Can you show how to groom a horse/pony
What about trying a different riding style like barrel racing, trick riding or jumping
Your welcome for video idea 💡
I have been riding for eight years, but have never ridden English, very interesting! Thank you! I have only ever ridden others horses and I work on a farm (not ranch) and I have been saving up and am planning on getting my own horse soon! I enjoy your videos, and you have earned a subscriber!
Who’s going n 2020 I am

Claire : **Horse stays still being a saint**
My Pony : **RUnSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs without being TIedddddddddd**
I am advanced trail rider ,pole bender and barrel racer.i haven’t had very much experience in anything but a western/ranch saddle. I have always dealt like a goof posting. But the English saddle is so much faster to put on and so light. That’s great for me as I’m getting older (37) my abs, back. And knees hurt more then they did in the past. And my recover time is SAD. Lol
Just got a nice soft. Anyway,I’m rambling! all I wanted to say this was a great video I learned a ton. Tanks
Me as a western rider coming to this video learning that tacking up English is more different than you thought compared to western-
My mom might let me start English horseback riding wish me good luck that she will let me
I'm starting next week. I'm so excited
@@natalie5420 how was it? :D
Just a tip us equestrians dont call it horseback riding we call it horse riding or riding skills or pony skills or whatever but yeah
Did you like it
Why do u call it horseBACK riding, in England we call it horse riding, of course you ride the horse on its back, where else would you ride it!? It’s head!? 😂😂😂😂 no hate ❤️❤️❤️
Beginner here! I appreciate the pace and simple explanations in this video!
I already know how to groom and tack up a horse ((and ride as well)) but it would be amazing if you showed how to groom your horse.
I am a beginner rider and confused on what types of saddles there are
Kavyn Blatchford Ok,so I am a horse back rider and typically there are western and English saddles that go with western and English riding.
Also there's Australian saddles, Mexican vaquero style saddles, sidesaddles , saddleseat types with cut out whither area, Spanish style ones, and other less common native traditional types, and race horse ones are really small pad like and flat
Oh and bareback ones
My daughters just started riding last week. They are 6 and 8 years old. The first two lessons teach to tack a horse. I was shocked at how many steps there are. Their second lesson this week they will have to tack the pony completely themselves. This video is extremely helpful in getting them prepared before their 2nd lesson. It was so incredibly informative. You explained it nice and slow for beginners. Thank you! Quick question. How do you know the girth strap is tight enough? Our instructor didn’t really explain.
Hmm. Been riding for 14 years and idk why I'm watching this
Same i have been riding for 10 years my whole life i have a dapple gray stallion
**watches in experienced equestrian with a nasty draft horse that’s broken 15 sets of cross ties so far being a girthy maniac**
You were awesome! As a beginner you not only show how but explained why. Thank you
2019 anybody we miss ya rushton
Not meh
Me: has been riding since I was 3.
Also me: ooo this looks interesting.
I watch this every Saturday just before my riding lesson.
Was that a ghost horse I saw in the background 😂😂
