You refer to the isolation valve at the 1:48 mark or so, but in the video it looks like the person is opening the service valve, not the isolation valve. Are they one in the same or is that an error?
Thank you for pointing this out. During the descaling process only the service valves should be opened as demonstrated. The isolation valves should remain closed until the unit has been completely flushed.
There’s one step I am somewhat confused by in this video, and that’s the post-descaling/flush step. In your video, it looks like, after the hose is reconnected to the cold isolation, you put the pump back in and run it? However, my instructions and what I’m seeing when I go through the process with my heater is to reconnect the hose, open the isolation handle, and then simply use the main on the cold to flush water out instead of using a pump at all during this process. Am I missing something? Otherwise, great video and very straightforward
It does seem like they run the pump again after filling the bucket with clean water… but the verbal instructions in the video never actually say, “plug the pump in again to run clean water through the water heater.” I’m fairly certain that’s what’s happening… but the attention to detail in creating this video definitely leaves something to be desired. He also appears to mis-speak at 1:43 by calling the service valve the isolation valve. I feel like they could easily fix this video by recording a new voiceover.
I have a transfer pump, this should still work too right? Just add a hose into the bucket from the inlet valve on the pump and circulate as normal? Thank you.
Hi Great video. I did try it and for some reason (I verified 10 times :) plus I am pretty technical in it ) all connection is right and pump is pumping water in but it is not coming out from hot side Anything to check? Waited several minutes Nothing
Your isolation valves may have been installed backwards as I had the same issue as you. Check where the hot and cold valves are located. If it's on top of the hose outlet then it's installed incorrectly. Hope that made sense.
Thanks for your reply but I feel that cold pipe goes from pump and drain hose from hot pipe No clue what else to check. Seems that it should work but doesn’t Any other suggestions?
@Brent Holzhei If no isolation valves then it would circulate throughout the whole system. We would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer of the system as well for their recommendation on how to descale a system without isolation valves.
Simple to follow , very clear steps, and a short video with no extra BS thank you
Thank you! I rewatch this every year when I have to descale my water heater

Your comment saved me!
Why does he disconnect the cold side hose at 1:32 when he just reconnects it again after filling the bucket with clean water?

I have the same questions.
Either or is fine
Same question can you please be more explicit about how to perform the flush step? What do you mean “use the main”?

Good video with the exception of the unnecessary muzak. The muzak adds noise to an otherwise excellent presentation.
1:20 is a HUGE error. Never open isolation valve in this process. ONLY service values
Thanks

If you have this issue, check the "Filter Screen Assembly". Filter could be clogged and cleaning it is very easy.
My kit didn’t come with a filter…
best to follow
I don’t have isolation valves on mine. Can this still be done?

What pump are you using? This looks less powerful than any of the sump pumps. So, I think it may be more effective.
@Boufontle Flamingoetta It is a 1/16 horsepower pump from Danner Manufacturing.
What is the brand of that pump with the filter?
Hercules Haymaker, they sell the complete descale kit
You forgot to empty the hot water out of the heater before you descaled. tThat's the valve on the left.
This video does not apply to other brands like Noritz etc.
