I know i'm 4 years late, but the commentary on this run is great! Really appreciated the dude in the middle explaining all sorts of things throughout the run.
"He can figure out from his HP whether his Speed DV is even or odd, and he can find out from that whether he's faster than Starmie." This is why speedrunners are awesome.
In Gen I and II, the game only stored four DVs, so instead of storing a DV for HP, it calculated the DV for HP based on which other IVs were even or odd. What's truly impressive is not the ability to look up that information on a wiki, but being able to use it to make determinations on the fly while also playing the game nearly flawlessly.
I remember watching a Gen 2 speedrun at one point where the runner, having hit an extra trainer, started doing "on the fly money routing" at the Goldenrod Department Store, completley recalculating what he needed to buy and working in a few extra items to save time later... all while still flawlessly speedrunning.
It sucked that Shen didn't play in the events, but at least he was there. Besides that he was the best at explaining the dips and tricks to the run. Keizaron (As usual) always putting humor into everything that he does and that is what makes him enjoyable. Praise Helix.
Gunner: "I'm packing a much more versatile team at this point" LOL. His Level 13 Oddish CRUSHED a Level 53 Venusaur. I would call that versatility. WHat a kick arse team
Unfortunately I think most of the games past 3rd gen aren't super interesting to watch because the lack of glitches, so pokemon blocks would probably take a ton of time after gen 1 and 2.
Unfortunately Pokémon is definitely not a marathon safe game and there are many games where it's really hard to come up with a marathon safe route. Some games are also not really actively ran (thinking gen 5), but I agree in general that if Mega Man can have hours and hours every marathon then Pokémon deserves at least 3-4 hours in total.
there are actually quite a few cool glitches in the gen 4 games which get used in speedruns, including an OOB in diamond and pearl that skips from just after the 2nd badge to the hall of fame. also, just because they don't have glitches doesn't make them bad speed games, this run was glitchless and still very entertaining to watch
The later generation games average at about 3 to 3 and a half hours for a glitchless speedrun, so doing multiple back-to-back would take the better part of a day. A shame, because the later gen speedruns are pretty interesting to watch.
normally glitchless is a really boring run to watch because it's like a planned let's play but this run was very fun to watch thanks to all the runners and commentary so credit to them
Well that's why I call it lenient. It sort of conforms to what other games call these types of runs, even though it clearly abuses some unintended glitches. (That can be avoided)
i thought the guy in the black shirt had won the race, and then i saw he was the "3rd" place. they need to fix how they arrange players in the seats and the order of the screen, because they don't make any sense at all if you don't know the runners before hand.
21:39 It's not at all unlikely to have to face a pokemon, going by what he said. The chance is 1-(31/32)^28=0.59. So it's a slightly bigger chance to meet a pokemon than not.
People didn't know about the Flute being usable in battle?... What kinda freak kid was I? Edit - 1:58:03 Oh my god.... I did the same thing as a kid. XD I was a youngling who didn't get that you had to train everything, so I just had a piddly little bellsprout as my last pokemon facing off against the rival in Silph Co and HOO. It took a while, but I was so proud that it wasn't a loss. Not actually sure how I had enough potions to hold up through Struggling, but I did.
Great run, loving the Gen 1 nostalgia. Just a quick question, is there any reason they chose Pokemon Red rather than Blue for this run, other than Blue would be run next?
Hey, who is that between Klonoa and Megaman at the start there? Also, that donation from TheBakaBrigade201 at the very end was just golden. I'd type out a Cirno_Tv emote, but it's UA-cam, so...
Kudos to that commentator for being able to explain everything clearly and still focus on all four screens at once.
he's really good, he needs to announce more often
I was bummed when shen wasn't in the race but commentator suits him better for this run
Patrick Lydon I love having someone like him who can explain while the others can just focus
Deadass
That’s cuz he’s shenanigans he lives and breaths Pokémon
I know i'm 4 years late, but the commentary on this run is great! Really appreciated the dude in the middle explaining all sorts of things throughout the run.
Near the end of race: Alright well time to focus on Exarion finish the race.
*Gunner with the Oddish fighting Venusaur* This is much more interesting.
shennaningans is such a good speaker
"He can figure out from his HP whether his Speed DV is even or odd, and he can find out from that whether he's faster than Starmie."

BigKlingy that sounds heckin’ rad
That Oddish vs Bulbasaur fight was the best thing about the race.
Venusaur*
That was probably the most hype thing I've ever seen. Lol
min?
+FaceTheWind 1:58:01 upper left screen
That's how you beat a Venusuar.
Except...
Maybe with a level 100 Nidoking and level 100 Mew that both were glitches in?
13:05 countdown.
Thanks for the time of the countdown instead of the time of start, I like that a little better :)
ty ^^
Waas i
Thank you kindly.
Gracias amigo
Every once in a while i came back on these speedruns of pokemon by gdq just to feel happy
I like how this run was uploaded at the exact time I was looking for it.
At first I was dissapointed Shenanigans wasn't running this time... then I heard his soothing voice and knew everything was right in the world.
That oddish is the true mvp
all hail the based Oddish
Run starts at 13:09
you are doing god's work.
Thanks
1:00:00 - Neat optical illusion on the right side!
"What if we press each other's controller?"
"That would be adorable." XD
Mhmm~
In the end, friendship won. What a wonderful race.
I love how they all got first at one point in the race! Rare in a 4 players race! Excellent job everyone! :D
This game is held together by paperclips, string, and hope. Even in a glitchless category, it's a mess.
And yet, it's by far the most interesting
Appreciate the interview with Mr. Llama, but I think it should be bundled in with the D2 run video.
It sucked that Shen didn't play in the events, but at least he was there. Besides that he was the best at explaining the dips and tricks to the run. Keizaron (As usual) always putting humor into everything that he does and that is what makes him enjoyable. Praise Helix.
Tricky's color palette was crazy, especially when he was in Rock Tunnel.
Shenanigans is the best possible commentator for something like this
Good to see some Espeon fans :) little pink powerhouse, or green if your mine!
Shiny espeon is fugly💩
40:22 "You do not want to deal with Oddish"
Little did he know...
OMFG! that ODDISH is a HERO! What a wonderful race! How did i miss this live? ... really...
G O D D I S H
That was Nuptup, Absorber of Souls, Transcender of Dimensions
+monkeylemur Destroyer of Worlds. Guardian of the Fifth Dimension.
we all saw it keizaron.

Keizaron is a meme among men
Gunner didn't choose the helix, so he didn't get his paras. PRAISE THE HELIX
+Mr. Realist so funny, thanks for the highly entertaining comment :)
+Watta Mugen PRAISE DOME AND DOWN WITH HELIX!
I got the skull fossil recently in pokemon diamond, does that count?
NIklas Felder D: heresy
LORD HELIX SAVE US> PRAISE BE TO HELIX!
Gotta love that original Lavender Town theme.
Next AGDQ we need an odish only run incentive
Golbat always throws me off on these games. Craziest looking pokemon ever
I love hearing the runners do all their pokemath on the fly.
Gunner: "I'm packing a much more versatile team at this point" LOL. His Level 13 Oddish CRUSHED a Level 53 Venusaur. I would call that versatility. WHat a kick arse team
I would love to see more than 2 Pokemon runs at GDQ events... maybe an 8-hour Pokemon-block including all generations from 1 through 7?
Unfortunately I think most of the games past 3rd gen aren't super interesting to watch because the lack of glitches, so pokemon blocks would probably take a ton of time after gen 1 and 2.

wats ur favorite post 3rd gen speed run and if possiable post the time and the runner
Keizaron missing 3 of the first like 6 tackles of the run is so on-brand for his GDQ experience :'D
Pokemon and Dark souls runs are easily my fav things to watch at GDQ's. Which is sad because there's so few of them
Start @15:50
thx bro
Not at all : it's 13:05
Runner second to the right has a Seth Rollins shirt, which is amazing.
I love Keizaron just sitting there and waiting
#GODDISH
It had its chance and it ruined it!
llama is the GOAT D2 player
omg that trance out screen is freaking me out mate lol
LLAma sporting the chain mail Like a Proper gamer nerd. Love it Dude. youmake me proud to be a gamer geek
I just noticed Keizaron's team spells MEME.
Keizaron, my boy in the Crossfit Jesus shirt. Commenting at the beginning hoping he wins.
Let it be know that on this race Lord Helix bestowed his almighty powers upon Gunner and thus the demi-god Goddish was born.
Shen + Gunner + Keiz are like the holy trinity of pokmeon gdq runs
normally glitchless is a really boring run to watch because it's like a planned let's play but this run was very fun to watch thanks to all the runners and commentary so credit to them
That was the most wholesome ending to a race I've ever seen
Pokémon is always such a good speedrun
I started learning Pokémon red a few days ago. So far I had only one fight where bulbasaur didn’t at least try to growl
Blue has 4 Pokémon in Cerulean City.
And Tricky crit them all. God damn.
I love that chain mail.
"This fight is about PP management" I would have died lol
i wish Werster was there to comment as well .

There we go.
Mitchel Huffa I was 1:04:00 onto the run before I realised this. Although I don't normally watch pokemon runs
keizarons first four pokemon (nidoking, squirtle, spearow and paras) spell meme in the pokemon menu
that was really fun that double finish at the end was great to lol
Shenanigans is my boy his glitch showcase was super entertaining .if I didn't know better I'd say he works in commentary as a side hustle
These pre-manip runs make much more interesting races as RNG is a much bigger factor.
"Glitchless" is a bit of a lenient naming convention here
If you've seen a glitched run, you'd understand.
Well that's why I call it lenient. It sort of conforms to what other games call these types of runs, even though it clearly abuses some unintended glitches. (That can be avoided)
Why are the screens all different colors? Is it just to help differentiate the separate player's screen?
Personal decision of the runners! Round about 1:10:00 you can see that it helps with the rock cave, but overall it's just personal preference. :D
This is like a hurdling race with randomized hurdles, with all the different encounters :p
Never thought that pokemon could be that terrifying
2:03:00 for those looking for the legendary “Max ether: CUT”.
That Oddish cut softlock hurts my soul omg
I'm glad I donated during this run. :)
48:25
is 9-11 a thing??
Probably a date
Wait shennanigans didn't do anything this gdq? ☹️
it seems :(
he didn't play but he was in one
he was in the pokemon blue block
i thought the guy in the black shirt had won the race, and then i saw he was the "3rd" place. they need to fix how they arrange players in the seats and the order of the screen, because they don't make any sense at all if you don't know the runners before hand.
48:52 Keizaron's team spelled Meme. ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED!!!!
Why is the game play so far ahead of commentary?
1:46:27 He's doing Erika first with the PP Up and he has all the moves.
Baby Rage!
Baby Rage!
I just like chanting Baby Rage!
"PCP potion" my favourite kinda potion.
i just noticed those two perlers at the begining, what characters are those?
hi hello all great speedrun
21:39
It's not at all unlikely to have to face a pokemon, going by what he said. The chance is 1-(31/32)^28=0.59. So it's a slightly bigger chance to meet a pokemon than not.
This is hard to follow but still great
Also, tricky should get the title of crit magnet
Pokemon is terrifying.
so anyone know why in surges gym the door guys sprite moves when checking for a switch?
People didn't know about the Flute being usable in battle?... What kinda freak kid was I?
Edit - 1:58:03 Oh my god.... I did the same thing as a kid. Lol Gunner just made this run a lot better no kidding
It took me ages to complete Pokemon red when I 8 this is a little painful lol.
Mr. Llama is fucking adorable!!!
Race Start: 13:09
MrLlama still wearing his chainmail lol. Great idea doing race instead solo run.
4 way race? awesome job guys
Class ending
Great run, loving the Gen 1 nostalgia. Just a quick question, is there any reason they chose Pokemon Red rather than Blue for this run, other than Blue would be run next?
Nidoran male i believe is red exclusive
retrotonowgamer101
He's in that patch of grass in Blue too, but much more rare to find.
gunner was one 100th of a second faster and then they synced them up? nice move :D
DV’s for their Nidorans in hex:
(n) = HP DV
ExtraTricky: (5)8DA7
Gunner: (F)97B1
Exarion: (8)5484
Keizaron: (0)68E4
race starts at 13:08
video has been spliced.
starts at 00:15:18
So keizaron ran into a spearow before the nidoran on route 22 wouldnt it be faster to cat h your spearow then vs later route when given the option?
Hey, who is that between Klonoa and Megaman at the start there?
Also, that donation from TheBakaBrigade201 at the very end was just golden. I'd type out a Cirno_Tv emote, but it's UA-cam, so...
maybe they explained this in the video, but why are the game screens all different colors?
I like how every battle was the "hardest battle in the game"
Inverted-pallet Gastly is pretty Ghastly
13:09
Dude crit 4 straight horn attacks on the rival fight after mount moon o_o
