That is among the most thoroughly musical performances of this ballade I've ever heard. Fully integrated, zero showing off, gorgeous balance... bravissima.
Michelle - this is beautiful. I love the phrasing, it feels like you are telling a story - effortlessly, and yet the story is filled with drama and passion. Thank you!
Michelle, I think we overlapped one year at CIM or something, and I think we met once maybe. This is just stunning playing. I think the 3rd ballad is particularly dear to me, I feel like it's one of my favorite categories in that it's in a major key, but expresses such deep sadness and longing. You have such a great ear for the harmonies. And I love how you are so caring for that tenor voice in the second theme. Wonderful! And I'm glad to see that you have an amazing career!
Michelle Cann's performance of this Ballade is masterful! Such a thoughtful approach, bringing out all the sonorous nuances of this sparkling and stormy masterpiece that others miss. Bravo!
I must say I loved every moment of this piece. I studied and played this piece 20 years ago and recognized so many areas where Ms. Cann demonstrated what my teacher was trying to get across to me. Wonderful phrasing and I love the tempo. I just "discovered" her on UA-cam two weeks ago and I love everything she does. Her playing style reminds me some of the great late Jorge Bolet. I'm now a big fan of Ms. Cann's playing. Check out her Schultz-Evler "Blue Danube" and her Brahms Ballade 10 #2. Superb playing.
Michele, my feeling is that the first appearance of the theme is a bit too heavy to present the ideal contrast with the third. I believe the purpose of the right hand measures at 5:50 is to build constant tension that releases into true Dionysian fury in the final appearance of the theme. I believe that all of the ballades are emotional journeys through conflicting emotions and the central interpretative exercise in each ballade is how to balance the appearance of the themes.
Oh it can. It's on wheels. But it definitely isn't. And that's not important. The music is - and the positioning of the instrument is - well, instrumental
@@chrisedmunds9272 I've heard every major artist over the last 120 years play this piece and I play it myself. I'd love to hear you play it and hear your point of view. Good luck with the project.
Anybody else here because they watched all the tonebase snippets and HAD to hear her just effing play it all the way through? haha
Lol yes 😂
Yep
Me too😂
Yes, as soon as I heard it I for goosebumps all over and furiously typed her name up to enjoy more

Her musicality puts her in a class by herself. That's the Ballade that I've been dreaming of.
fantastic performance! cannot wait to hear more chopin interpretation!!
I really love that e-flat at 4:31, very subtle but adds wonderful colour to the interpretation
Wow! Michelle Cann, I love your Chopin piano story 😢😊❤
Never heard it played better.
I thought this was such a fresh performance. First encounter with this pianist. Can’t wait to discover more.
This was fantastic!!!
You are a sincere musician with an artistic soul. I really enjoy listening to your performance.

Saw her yesterday in Richmond Va.. she had the whole audience in a trans ❤
Sorry, but you should probably write "trance" :D.

Beautiful sound…..
踏板skill 抑揚頓挫分明….
沒有很商業化的樂句…..
行雲流水非常流暢…..
踏板抑揚頓挫輕重分明…..
服裝髮型與背景合宜…..
Google translate makes that "there are no very commercial phrases" - and I like that characterization
一切完美只是…..
似乎鋼琴側著不能跟後面平行…..

No apologies from me. She, I contend a fair pianist. Musicality ? Forget it.
Oh there definitely should be chrisedmunds. Clearly, this is not your forte.
You clearly have little understanding of piano playing.
@@nickk8416 hi Nick. My Chopin project (includes the 4ballades) says differently.

Unfortunately, Ms. Cann’a performances don’t have thorough phrasing, tone and intonation
...another clueless comment 🤨
Fantastic !🎉
