Can you beat the Night elf Campaign in WC3: The Frozen Throne, without training an attacking unit?

- So this is a bit of a shorter video, because I could not find a strategically interesting video to go with the Frozen Throne night elf campaign. Everything I tried was either definitely impossible or very easy. However, I still think what I ended up on was pretty hilarious, so hopefully you enjoy it, and I'll see you all later with the blood elf campaign!

Well, I can't say I'm too surprised. Night Elf campaign isn't really an easy one in general, never mind with only archers. Though I have to say, I wasn't expecting no training attacking units. This was very fun indeed
Blood Elf only campaign, huh? I guess that means no Illidan too? Well then, that should be incredibly interesting to see. I can think of ways for each level, but the final two make me wonder how this will work. Good luck!
Yep! I played through the night elf campaign a few times with different challenges, and couldn't find a strategically interesting yet still possible challenge. Watching ancient protectors lumber their way to enemy bases never failed to make me laugh though, so that's what I have for the night elf campaign!
Blood elf only blood elves was super fun. I have finished the run, just gotta script, record, and edit it. Definitely some fun and challenging moments in it, and I'm excited to share that one with everyone!
@@redwings13400 I have to agree with you on that end. Watching those ancients destroy everything in their path was highly entertaining. The ultimate enemy, the Naga, defeated by slow trees. In that context, it's really funny

@@Undeath9087 I haven't started playing through the undead campaign yet, but I'm certainly planning on trying it soon! I'm concerned though, the undead Frozen Throne campaign is by far the hardest of all of the WC3 campaigns, so... uh... We'll see what happens! :D

Why do you use only footman in bloodelf campaign? I believe archers are basic units. And any naga unit lol because nagas don't have techtree. However only bloodelf is fine too. I beated second mission without nagas but I hasn't tested other missions.

Even with heroes,that mission is still quite challenging if you miss on killing those pisky royal naga champions,those guys are stronger than your 3 heroes combined,also can you do undead with only ghouls?i really wanna see how you can manage the dark lady mission without possession
I remember watching one of GiantGrantGames' WC3 challenge runs (if memory serves me right) and hearing him rant endlessly about the royal guards. They are SO stupid. XD
The Last Mission can be done with basic units.
The Mur'ghal revears are probably the strongest basic unit outside of Grunts.
This one was kinda funny because, basic unit only requires a bit more micro which I just couldn't do. So I had to take this one base at a time. This resulted in tyrande being overwhelmed. If she didn't have infinite health I would've lost without a doubt.
I think thats probably the only mission that can be done with basic units.
I did have vague plans to revisit this campaign with some sort of “only commanding basic units, thinking that with fake bases things might be more manageable. I haven’t tried it though, so I’m not sure how manageable it would be.
@@redwings13400 For whatever reason god knows why. I completely forgot about the fake bases thing.
I did the same trick as with Orc campaign which is making defenders around the Tree of Life.
On Naga's side I just made a bunch of tidal guardians. I was able to destroy all the bases in this one as well. But yeah maybe with much better micro now.
You can defend these attacks. and then after the major attack just uproot everything and move.
I wanna try this more. There might just be a way to do the base building missions with basic units.
Fun fact: as of the last patch it's difficult to complete any campaign with any unit comp at all.

I've heard that lol. I'm on a classic version that doesn't connect to battlenet, so I'm not dealing with any reforged shenanigans.
@@redwings13400 How does one go about reinstalling the version that Activision-Blizzard didn't brick? I desperately want to replay the founding of durotar campaign but the 1.33 patch softlocks you when you try to exit a side area.
@@billdewall6152 I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I imagine you can find some tutorials on youtube or google that tells you exactly how. Good luck!
@@billdewall6152 the 1.31.1 patch is quite widespread and popular, having 24 players and no Reforged. However, unoptimized maps can cause trigger leaks, and post-scorescreen crashes.
I'm still curious, how were you able to complete NE Chapters 3 & 4 and BE Chapters 2 & 5 on hard with heroes and basic units only? NE3 has some really nasty enemies for Maiev and a few archers to handle. NE4 has those two royal guards at the end. BE2 has loads of air units which swordsman can't hit and your heroes are still low level. BE5 has really tough demons, dragons, and fel orcs and takes away Illidan when closing the gates.
NE 3 is impossible due to it being a non base level. While I try those, I didn't succeed every non base level in roc either, so I consider those bonus levels for the challenge. NE 4 is a similar story, the base portion is doable archers only, but maievs non base portion is impossible.
BE chapter 2 has some utterly hilarious and actually very easy to pull off cheese that I will show you on my BE video! For BE chapter 5, guard towers are op, I have always allowed static defense, which can hold off the demon gates :D

Ok my guy. I got one more thing Up my sleeve.
The issue here is that if I could jump start my economy I wouldn't need those extra 5 minutes.
So how do I jump start my economy while I already stole Kael's goldmine and The one on the right.
Selling items.
I can't believe I hadn't thought of this before. Selling items for that economy boost would help insanely well. Especially if you consider the fact that you can sell upto 18 items.
So yeah. I'm back in it.
Ooh. In my runs I've generally banned controlling my heroes at all, so that's something I've generally not allowed myself to do in my rules. However, that is a very creative solution for some sort of run where you can't attack with your hero. I like it :D
@@redwings13400 Well tbf this is a rule exception as well since in this level archers can't attack the Naga summoners
@@shellshock7043 that’s fair. I’m not above rule exceptions as the situations call for them. It’s definitely more interesting than “definitely impossible”
So Mission 5... I'm trying this one.
I used whosyourdaddy up until the first gold mine. Because thats what the main aspect of the mission is anyway.
Then using Hide and body blocking the turtles to quickly get the 2nd gold mine.
After that just fully utlizing the gold mine. and trying to attack the base.
Now the good news is that Naga do not rebuild. The bad news is. The naga are fucking bullshit.
I'm beginning to see why grant was so goddamn tilted fighting these guys.
The Royal guard is the main reason I don't have any strength to attack. Not only do I need to let them pass a far away tree of life, I also need to bait them so I can attack from an angle. But I've run out of gold at this point.
The thing is that you can't bait these guys because there is no way to bait them. Illidans back is defended discount lady vashj and discount lady vashj's back is protected by Illidan.
if you destroy a spawning ground and then go on the offensive with a hide shield body block technique. You can neutralize the base. But I ran out of gold. Which is problematic.
maybe there is some other way I could do it but I don't know. Many strategies I've used but none of them seem to work.
This one does seem possible. And is especially possible with infinite gold. But 30k is already the max you can get on top of killing every creep.
Oof, yeah. Fighting the naga with just archers sounds horrifying. I remember trying it and just realizing that a couple of aoe spells from the royal guards killed half my army before I could deal any real damage. Archers were incredible with hero support because the heroes could tank while archers did damage, but without additional tanking, it felt nearly hopeless. Honestly, I dunno if I have any other ideas here.
If you're allowing ancient protectors, maybe various ancients could serve as a frontline to protect your archers for long enough to break the enemy? It would at the very least allow for a larger attacking force to maybe get enough momentum to start winning a fight, or at least getting a lot more damage in before losing.
That's really all I have though. I think you're better at this than me at this point, and I remember feeling completely hopeless here, so good luck!
@@redwings13400 Ok so it is in fact possible to beat mission 5 with basic units only. using some ancients of war to bait the royal guard works pretty well since they hone on buildings that are moving.
So yeah 100% possible. That makes 1 mission which is Ruins of Dalaran city currently impossible to do with basic units only. on Hard.
Exlcuding the non-base buildings of course.
even in the blood elf campaign you can do this with basic units only.
Is there any kind of cap to how many ancient protectors you can have?
Aside from the amount of gold on the map, I don’t think there is!
Man for the past 2 days... I've trying to do mission 7 with basic units only.
it seems doable in Normal difficulty. But I keep screwing up in hard. If I had 5 more minutes I could do it... Just 5 more minutes.
I keep Malfurion alive since the Archers can't do magic damage. So My rules are like only Malfurion can do damage and only to Naga summoners he cannot take any damage.
I stole Kael's gold in this one. You can have 3 gold mines that way. Pretty early on. Do you have any advice? I'm actually at my wits end. I used the line of Shadowmeld to block Illidans army and destroy from a range. That seems to do the trick as well. But I'm just low on time man.
One thing I’ve wondered about this is whether wisps can deal damage to the summoners with detonate. I have no idea if they can or not, but I wonder if that’s worth testing.
Otherwise, hmm… I dunno. My only thought is maybe fake bases and try to go when illidan is gone? But that’s tough. I remember trying this level with archers only and it just became a defense mission where surviving was a massive challenge, and I couldn’t even begin thinking of attacking.
This is another one where I was thinking only commanding archers might be viable, but I didn’t try it so I have no clue if it is actually viable or not.
@@redwings13400 Well it does require ton of planning but yes you can attack. In fact with some hardcore cheese you can neturalize the base very heavily. So its clearly possible.
I'll try the wisp if thats the case. I think I can win... But I swear to god man this mission is breaking me.

It's the lacking in offensive power that makes it problematic

Thanks! I'm trying really hard to not care much about views/subscribers, and just enjoy what I'm doing! I've learned that views are addictive and that doing things for the views is the path to madness, so my plan right now is to just continue making videos that I enjoy, and just kinda accept whatever else that happens. :)
