    After a hurricane, I was without water for 1 month. Without electricity for 2 months, so I had water but couldn't use my washing machine. I loaded my bathtub with A LOT of clothes and let it sit for 20 minutes. After that, I stomped it with my feet for about 10 minutes. It was kind of fun. Same for rinse. The result was fantastic and the clothes were very clean. Just make sure that you always be grabbing somewhere for safety.

    I have a panda B 465 washer / spinner. Holds 11 lb of laundry has a 15 minute timer but I usually use only 10 minutes I can do 4 loads in an hour... When they come out of the spinner they are so dry that even jeans dry in 10 minutes on the line... if you have a large solar Bank you can use this or I just use a small generator.. it's amazing how well this thing works especially a little boys clothes

    Way back when Jamie did this review I bought the Lavario. I'm in a small college town, not off grid, but we have hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., in Mississippi and I thought it would be a good idea just in case. It washes most clothes (I don't do large or heavy items) and I dye fabric which means I have to wash frequently. and I wanted to cut down water usage. It's awesome! And I don't wait for hurricanes to use it. I did buy extra stopper things and I would suggest that everyone do that.

    I don't know if you ended up using the Lavario, but I will add my comments for how I use mine. We also live off grid and first I used a Washing Wand in a large tub in my bath tub. But, like you, the wringing of the clothes was a physical challenge for my back. So my next investment was in The Laundry Alternative Inc. Mega clothes spinner (it does require electricity but it is minimal, and removes up to 95% of the water!). The Washing Wand eventually was too taxing and my search brought me to the Lavario. Paired with my clothes spinner in the bath tub, this has proven to be a workable system. After washing a load, I put the soapy clothes through the spinner which removes some soap as well as water. I may do several loads before changing the wash water in the Lavario - so I do all the washing first, putting each load through the spinner, ending with a basket of washed, unrinsed laundry. I empty the Lavario and refill for rinsing. I had been using the basket for this, reversing through my washed loads. Now, I just take all the washed clothes and put them in the Lavario tub and swish them with my hands to rinse. To finish, I use the spinner again. Then, I use drying racks or outside lines. Jeans and sweatshirts are the challenge. I can get two adult pairs of jeans and one adult sweatshirt in the Lavario basket. But the water weight is a physical challenge for me, so often I can only do one or two baskets one day and then not another for several days, meaning I am always behind with the dark loads. Sometimes we do make use of the laundromat. You can do sheets and towels in both the Lavario and spinner. You just have to portion your loads. Hope this helps.
    The spinner I use has been replaced by this model: www.amazon.com/dp/B07X3MWR3V/ref=dp_cerb_2

    I saw this product as I think a sponcer or something like that 2 days ago and have neen wonderimg about it.
    I have been looking for an off grid washer. Currently I use some sort of container ( often veries) I dunk the clothes up and down with my hands several times hand wring anything that doesn't need to be wrinkle free. If something needs to be wrinkle free after rinsing I do not wring I just hang it drippeng. This helps with less to no wrinkles. I do not have an off grid iron yet.

    I just received mine a few days ago, and I thought it did an excellent job for small articles of clothing, but I definitely agree with the step of using the basket to squeeze water out of the clothes is useless. I wish they made a version that was three this size for people who want to wash blankets, and comforters, because some of us of course cannot afford household appliances that are hundreds of dollars, and we don't have access to a local laundromat like some other people do. I'm actually going to write the company and request for them to start doing that. I will pay them $250 for one twice the size of their current model. I personally feel like this item is overpriced, because even though it is probably going to last forever, it's a simple piece of plastic after all. I mean, how much is plastic worth these days? That's just the way I look at things. Lol. I wish it were like $40, but our economy is really bad, and inflation will just keep going up, unfortunately.
    Thanks so much for awesome review, I really enjoyed it! God bless you and your family. 🙏☺️

      Two ways to dry are by spining at 1000 rpms or wringing it out. This has neither,
      I would think they would solve that with a mini wringer. To spin something that fast would require foot pedals and a transmission like an 21 speed stationary bike. I'm sure it could be built.
      My front loading LG went out on me. The bearings are not only expensive but hard to get out. I didn't know that these washer have a 10-15 year life expectancy. The parts are 10 times higher than you would expect. A 1.5 inch rubber seal is $30 dollars. The bearings require two at $80. The parts could cost $500 and labor just as much or twice. But I hate throwing out all the stainless.

    We moved to a farm in CO about 4 months ago; to live in our shed to home off grid, homestead. You have been an inspiration to our family, we love the kitchen water pump! I bought a blue and wooden handle Mobile washer! We love it, but it is a lot of work, my husband does it more than me, due to my back... I want to be able to do it more while he is at work... And have less splashing... ( should make a video!). We hand ring ours and rinse and repeat... Hang dry after... Thank goodness for CO sunshine! Winter is on it's way, and am looking for a new washer... I will now have to check this one out... I like the height better for sure... And the motion looks easier... And the amount it holds...Thanks for the review! Still considering building one of those huge barrel spin washers and ringers... DIY... 😉 But not yet... Family of five, lots of spinners, lol!

    • @TargetedBySatan
      @TargetedBySatan 3 роки тому

      Indeed, it is currently standing at $139, friend. ;). Did you ever end up getting one? I noticed your comment is 8 months old, so I was just inquiring. 😁 I bought one, because I have great difficulty doing laundry in my garage where there is no space, and I only use my electric appliances whenever I have to for large items. This system will wash anything as large as a queen-sized bed sheet, and I even use fabric softener with mine, then rinse it out to make my clothes softer.
      Do I think it's worth the price? No, I think it's definitely overpriced, because it is not sufficient in squeezing water from washed clothes. I expected a little more out of it as did the reviewer for the video. But, if you want the best manual washing machine on the market, you can't go wrong. Good day, friend. ❤️

Quilts and blankets are much easier. I love my three 5 gallon bucket method with a breathing mobile washer. I built an outdoor wash stand for it. It is amazing and no hand wringing involved. I really liked your thoughts on this manual washing device. I have a washer and dryer but want something to save on water bill and if I ever have an apartment with no hookup I don’t want to have to use a laundry mat. I am an elderly lady and concerned if you don’t have the strength to wring clothes out well by hand. I do have a salad spinner and tried it with underwear and it did well. I suppose if in an apartment you could get as much water as possible and hang it over your bathtub or in a shower. It maybe takes 24 hrs. to dry in bathroom...I have done it with Cotten outfit and gym clothes. This veteran thinks it really will be a necessity in the future.

    Hey I have a Lavario and its great. I did buy the Laundry Alternative Nina spin dryer and I have to tell you it does in fact really take a huge amount of water out and leaves the clothes to where they dry in maybe 1 to 2 hours tops. Kid you not. Just thought you might like to know. The watts on the spinner are low, 136 which is why I chose this item and it has good reviews. Just one thing it needs to be done outside bc you will get some leaking IF you put too much in which I tend to do. LOL Since I am on solar this is a must have.

My washer is very small only holds 9 pounds of clothes.

    I live off grid and have a small 6kg chinese made twin tub. Washes well and spins them practically dry.
    It uses so little power I can run it off my batteries via a cheap 1000w (500w with pretensions 😊) inverter.
    I am not ideologically against a little convenience...especially as I hat laundry!

    Jamie, I think the old fashioned design washers used in the early 1900s are completely awesome. Sure human power is great ... until you get a back injury. I broke my back in 2004 and it's had a profound impact on what I can do. So what if we went back to those early designed washers using modern engineering and drive the washer (and ringer) with a high efficiency electric motor using alternatively derived electricity.
    Thomas A. Edison said "There's a better way to do it, find it."
    High efficiency electric motors use little power and can easily do one operation and then another or even using different motors depending on the power needed to get a job done. Moving many pounds of water and clothes takes a big motor, but ringing out clothes a much smaller motor. Just some thoughts I'm having as I face my 1st year of homesteading next year ... I want clean clothes, but working smarter not harder is my goal.
    Your thoughts please.

    I would really love to have one. I live in a low income housing apartment, and washing machines here in their Laundromat is always breaking g down or tampered with, even have money stolen from machines, and when that happens they shut down for about a week or two. Is this product affordable?

    Thanks so much for the review!! I too always have issues with the capacity of washers. If you guys find a washer with a bigger capacity please let us know!!

    • @TargetedBySatan
      @TargetedBySatan 3 роки тому

      At this current time there isn't one with a larger capacity that is a manual washer. Not one that works as efficiently as this one does anyway. I've looked everywhere from one, so I don't think there is one larger than this one. 🤷‍♀️ I'm going to personally write the company, and ask him if they can start producing some that are three times the size, because I know people will buy them. Honestly, I'm sought they don't make one three times this size, considering how easy it is to use, and how much money they would make off of that. They have to consider people who live off grid, or people who just can't find another way to do laundry, and those people need to do large articles like blankets and sheets. Just saying. 🤷‍♀️
      You would think they would have the same item three times the size, for around $200, but for some odd reason they don't. No idea why 🤷‍♀️. It's probably greed that is pushing them to only keep this certain size.

    This looks much better than my squared plastic kitty litter buckets with a dedicated plunger. But I will stick with with my seven inch high plastic (vegetable) crates and the othet standard milk(?)sized crate I use to help out drain my heavier items like bath towels and sweatshirts in the tub. The seven inch sits under my bathtub faucet to help rinse and usually I have a load of clothes to either presoak or finish washing. The larger crate I sit above the two kitty buckets and start the draining of rinsed clothes of a heavier item. The extra water goes into the kitty buckets to be reused again and also there is something else to wash in the tub. My Spinner does sometimes rock making a watery mess, but after the suggested 3-5 minutes, my clothes are nearly all dry. Excellent for thick winter socks, bath towels and sweatshirts! My arthritic hands not doing well lately with the handwringing. So, the purchase of a Spinner about six months ago ends up not using a lot of electricity and my hands are saved from almost all of the wronging. With tshirts and socks, I hand wring only once over the crate and this about once only first wringing is all I do of that task now...the water from the Spinner I reuse either as rinse water or pour in a bucket getting ready for either a presoak or wash. Since I live in an apartment and my bathroom well ventilated, I hang my clothes on plastic hangers. I use wooden laundry clips to keep things like socks from falling off especially if the higher sunny bathroom window is open and breezy air. Since my shoulders are narrow, I clip my ladies tshirts up towards the hook because I do not want the collar to stretch. Yes, the.more one wants to save on laundry costs, the more constant physical work and time and labour needs to be invested...am ready to let go of this daily time consuming tasks as I want to focus more on volunteering and my crocheting. Next on the list is a $325 Panda 110W hookup portable dryer from Walmart. Want my bathroom back since I live in an apartment. Lol? The venting system I have figured out. But I do not think my apt can handle the start off and hottest first few minutes of 1800W wattage so I will be marking it to where I start it about a 1500W mark. A bit of heat in.my apt will be welcomed in the winter. And the eco air dry should help pull out air in the often 90-100F summer days. Pull the summer hot air through, dry my clothes and send the hot air back outside. Hoping more useful than usint three larger portable fans on maximum speed on those days. A portable wash machine I am still undecided as I plan to move in a few years. But your review on the Lavario has encouraged me to purchase one. Once I do get moved, I hope to have the hookups for an Electolux 527 which is my dream wash machine based on performance reviews, best offered warranty and excellent on electricity and water usage. And, happily it will do my comforters.

    remember when you twisted on a swing as a kid and it would turn the person in a circle. take a 2 swivel clip attach to both end of rope, string through the handled hang it on on a beam or tree limb or door opening with hanging pot fixture or then twisted the basket til its tight. let it spin out the clothes while your filling bucket with rinse water . i have used a 5 gallon bucket with drilled holes in it put it in a round black 20 gallon trash can from the dollar general put a plastic spickette to drain. same concept . then i clipped the bucket to the rope and let it do its thing . you can use a retractable clip cable and it will pull the basket/ bucket/ tub thing and it wont hurt your back.

    The little Spinners that come with small electric washers don't hold very much clothes you're right about that but they actually do spin out a lot of water and if you tried to use one I bet you would agree with me but they do tend to add wrinkles to your clothes but if you really do want your clothes almost dry but not completely dry a little electric spinner actually does take out a ton of water you would be surprised honestly!

    What a beautiful couple both of you are. And thank you for the honest review. I am trying to figure out if this maunual washing devise is worth the 170 dollars they are asking for but it sems to me that if the grid goes down...it will be worth it to have a manual way to get clean underwear. Thanks again

    Question? Could you hook up a hose to the drain, so you could use it for watering things? Also if they would put a step in it to make it spin like the mop that would be great.

    I'd take one of those I live in a rv and can't have a washer in my rv. I do wash cloths by hand and it's really difficult to do. I totally understand the back issues. If you still have that extra washer I'd be glad to accept it.
