Most international squads take 3. Goalkeepers are very specialized positions as well as most critical position. You can make do with swapping outfield players like putting a leftback in central defence or even pushing a midfielder up as striker. You play an outfield player as a goalkeeper, you get a drastic drop off in quality. That's the reason why every single time a goalkeeper gets sent off, the team sacrifices an outfield player for a specialized goalie. Whereas if an outfield player gets sent off, the manager might just rejig the positions instead of subbing someone off. The 3rd man is insurance, especially in international tournaments. Losing all your goalkeepers effectively spells the end of your tournament chances, even if you have Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, Maradona etc playing outfield. Just imagine this, your first choice is suspended. 10 minutes in and your second choice suddenly get injured. So you end up having to stick Trent between the posts? Imagine that game going into penalties.
Grealish is an important player if you know how to work a team. Southgate acts like he's playing FIFA & thinks all you need is all the Messis & Ronaldos in every position. All while constantly benching your best player.
@@monkey39128 I know I’m just an average guy with a UA-cam account, but I still think Grealish being left out was a big mistake. I know Southgate knows way better than I do about the game, but Grealish is the kind of player who I feel you want around. I’d see him as a Ricardo Quaresma kind of player: skilled, intelligent, experienced, capable and strong. A great asset for a National team who is shooting to win the whole thing. Quaresma was exactly what Portugal needed in 2016.
Shaka says very surprising and then immediately says why it makes sense. That attacking lineup is already bloated. Grealish and Madison aren't dynamic enough to be included in my opinion, no matter how good.
Grealish has only himself to blame for spending most games swanning around the pitch. Good decision to leave him out. Maybe it will cause the penny to finally drop.
He’s one of the most naturally gifted footballers in the world, on a technical level and the way he evades dispossession is musiala esc, and the amount of bodies he attracts that frees up space for other players, his weight of pass, his touch, can drift centrally play on the half turn, he glides, he’s one of the most under appreciated players on the planet
@jooohan if u don’t rate Grealish u really shouldn’t watch football, he’s England’s best winger in terms of natural ability on the ball, he should be going
Not Surprised at all.J Grelqish did not show any good signe of fitness or competativnes or support for city this season he was off partying all summer and he came injured too... pep did not pkay him finals so how the coamch pf england wil play him and he has many better fit players
Grealish plays a role at MC that isn't duplicated in the England team. In addition he has had a poor season...injuries notwithstanding. The other thing I have noticed is that he rarely goes by an opponent. He feints one way, then the other and then another and then offloads the ball. It's as if he lacks the confidence or the pace to take an opponent on. That's why Pep prefers Doku who does go by opponents.
Jack Grealish is one of those players who have an individual type of play. These days coaches look for players who can fit a system, jack might not have the team mentality that these coaches require….
Eze has an individual style of play but is faster, has a better final ball and more of a goal threat. I just younger generation players with more ability have come up, Grealish doesn’t look so amazing being a bench warmer for Man City.
As a Real Madrid fan, i saw how greatly Grealish handled tough fullbacks like Carvajal in UCL. He might not be a scorer like Saka, but he would have a great chemistry with Kane, he also creates a lot of chances. There is seriously something wrong with Southgate. He failed to use Englands best generation which might not come again
In all honesty, I’m actually surprised that Jack Grealish didn’t make the final England squad for the EUROs this summer. If he did get picked, he wouldn’t have been used as a starter as he would be a good option to have off the bench. Let’s say that they’re struggling to create chances out wide against a low block team that’s s defending deep, Grealish out wide would help you progress the ball create overlaps and space for his teammates. It’s true that his experience can come in handy since he was a key player in a Manchester City team that won a treble not too long ago and he’s on a team that’s used to winning trophies on a regular basis and compared to the others who got picked over him, Grealish has the edge in terms of team achievements. That’s what his role in the team would’ve been if he was in the team, unfortunately Gareth Southgate doesn’t see it that way and with all due respect to him, he made the right call in leaving him out of the squad. I think that it’s great that Southgate is doing all out for the EUROs this summer and while he’s never been a fan of Grealish, from his team selections that we criticized him for, he’s picking players off of current form regardless of experience not picking players who’ve done well in the past for him even though their form has been so poor. The reality is that he didn’t have a great season at Manchester City because he was injured and missed a lot of games, he wasn’t any better when fit and he spent as much time on the bench than on the field. He wasn’t good enough throughout the season and that alone is why he was dropped from the squad and by the way he hasn’t played a lot either. In my opinion, football isn’t just about goals and assists and that shouldn’t be the only metric to judge the ability of a player, but 3 goals and 3 assists while playing on the most stacked team in the world is poor even though he’s not a goalscorer and never has been. Eberechi Eze Anthony Gordon Cole Palmer Jarrod Bowen Ollie Watkins etc have more goal contributions while playing for teams who are nowhere near the level as Manchester City and they have better stats than him. With Saka Palmer and Bowen, they have 3 genuine right wingers meanwhile you look at England, they only have one natural left wingers which is Gordon and they won’t even start him and Phil Foden you can’t really say that he’s a proper winger especially since his best role is on the left and since Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling were left out of the squad, they don’t have someone who’s naturally a left winger. How much will Eze even play at this tournament as he poses more of a threat than him going forward. To be honest, Gareth Southgate has never been a fan of Jack Grealish because even when he was playing well at Aston Villa, he was a sporadic player with the national team at best and many wanted Southgate to play him more, ignored call of the fans. His international career isn’t over and he’s capable of bouncing back and returning to the national team, but does his future lie away from Manchester City after being omitted from the England squad only time will tell.
Ale is the only one that thinks properly here 😅😅 Grealish isn't better than what they have in the roaster 😅 Grealish isn't scoring goals or making assists...
Grealish is the super sub! I agree he's not good enough to start but how many times has he came off the bench and changed games? Even against bosnia. Ollie Watkins is dreadful in an England shirt and Lewis dunk is a donkey, southgate doing his usual selections, though he's got it more right than wrong this time!
Grealish chose the wrong team in Man City. He's better suited to transitional football a la Villa & not perpetual possession of City. Against the low-blow he's predictably comical. Grealish needs to go back to Villa where Emery will improve his game as he enters his prime. Pep will run you to the ground, then replace you with some young bloke, Doku. Ask Raheem & Jesus.
since signing for City he has won 7 major trophies. yeah biggg mistake. he is a household name now ( for better or worse ). you are lying if you say you wouldn't have done the same thing in his shoes.
Grealish should get in the squad. Not as a starter but as the perfect impact sub. Sure he had a injury ravaged season but he does have a champions mentality and can be a very good substitute when needed. I am sure his boozing has not helped his case though
Grealish has been a peripheral part of City this season, injuries aside he’s been average, he deserved a call up no more than Rashford has, and Rashford has been a better player for England. At least he’s now able to go Ibiza and get totally smashed
It's not party behaviour. Grealish is a professional. It's the facts he had a weak season. He needs to find back his bravery to go past a man with pace and fire away a shot. It's not enough to be a team player and pass the ball.
Shaka please watch more football before speaking, eze can be that player to be more direct and take on players 1 on 1 if needed , siff is eze does it faster and is in form. He just doesnt get recognized
If Grealish was there and not Rashford then this would be mad. I don’t see how he makes if Rashford doesn’t season comparison then it’s fair for him not to be there
Grealish hogs the ball like few can, most often only way for defenders to win it off him is to foul. However, he can't beat most defenders with a dribble. Speed ok, passing good and crossing good. Overall a useful player that Guardiola replaced in City by Doku who is faster and can beat defenders 1vs1 unlike Grealish. Last year they won the treble with Grealish as starter on left flank, this year with Doku they won 1 title, so who's better? JG should have played for his real home nation of Ireland perhaps, wait, Irish didn't make it to Euros either...
Good fooking decision by Southgate! Its about time Grealish is dropped. Been acting like he is drunk everyday since the treble win. Never serious, never in the mindset! Great decisions this time! except Brathwaite should be in!
Utter nonsense coming from Shaka on Grealish. Shaka simply does not watch the games. The dude has been deservedly left out of the English team for Euros 2024

He hasn’t even been called up since the wc so not a shock at all either. I’ll admit no grealish and Maddison is a mistake but sterling is right decision
Dont get why he took 3 goalkeepers, we only need 2... Could have added another defender or midfielder.
Bro how long have you been watching football? Three goalkeepers has always been a requirement for national team squads
It's a compulsion, I think
What if a goalkeeper gets injured? You are risking having no goalkeeper on the bench.
Goal keepers it's a must, at least 3
I was more surprised for James Madison 😂😂
Grealish is an important player if you know how to work a team. Southgate acts like he's playing FIFA & thinks all you need is all the Messis & Ronaldos in every position. All while constantly benching your best player.
Facts plus grealish is great at defence for a winger
@@Noirloredefensive winger 🤣
In that case, why not have him be a secondary LB since everyone is saying how bad Luke Shaw is?
@@monkey39128 I know I’m just an average guy with a UA-cam account, but I still think Grealish being left out was a big mistake. I know Southgate knows way better than I do about the game, but Grealish is the kind of player who I feel you want around. I’d see him as a Ricardo Quaresma kind of player: skilled, intelligent, experienced, capable and strong. A great asset for a National team who is shooting to win the whole thing. Quaresma was exactly what Portugal needed in 2016.
Who's gonna go and buy the beers now??
Keep making excuses for him, he was bang average, has been bang average for man city. your price tag doesn't make you an automatic pick, be quiet!
Ask yourself the question - if Pep was the England manager and had the choice of any left winger in England, would he bring or play Jack ?
Branthwaite was the bigger surprise IMO, especially with Maguire out.
Maybe it will cause the penny to finally drop.
...Grealish is class, he is only suffering from a slight dip in form. He'll definitely bounce back soon enough
No wonder England haven't won a major trophy since 1966. You consider Grealish "class" 🤦♀️

Grealish is just that friendly jock that brings banter and comedy in the locker room.. Nothing special 😂
@@Cynthia20043naturally gifted??? 🤣😭😭
You have no idea. He was integral to City winning the treble.
@jooohanhe does exactly what Pep asks of him. City wouldn't have got the treble without him.
South gate saw ESPN 100 and thought I ain't having that
Their Afraid If they win their first game he might nightclubbing the whole team be fucked for next game 😮🤣
Not Surprised at all.J Grelqish did not show any good signe of fitness or competativnes or support for city this season he was off partying all summer and he came injured too...
pep did not pkay him finals so how the coamch pf england wil play him and he has many better fit players
For the criticism Antony gets, this 100m flop is never spoken about enough.
Grealish is an excellent player but his form is poor. Picking on merit is what everyone wanted. We can’t have it both ways. Well done Southgate.
The vibe is important. But Bellingham will bring the vibe
Well done southgate, first time leaving behind overhyped average players in greilish, henderson, trashford .
His asist is worst tha his gial scoring. And his goal scoring is bad enough.
You'd better not expect to be a champion as long as Southgate is a headcoach of England. Leaving off Grealish is a terrible decision.
The right call, finally a good call. Picking people on merit and not cos they’re good lads
Curtis John is the biggest surprise among those players dropped.. his style is more of a continental style of play..he should at least be sub.
I stand with Grealish
Harry McGuire played well for England to be fair
So Palmer wasn't a option ???
Ale is the only one that thinks properly here 😅😅 Grealish isn't better than what they have in the roaster 😅 Grealish isn't scoring goals or making assists...
Actually, it's not surprising at all. Jack didn't play enough time in Man City either.Pep is also disappointed with his training altitude.
Grealish has been atrocious this season
Grealish chose the wrong team in Man City. He's better suited to transitional football a la Villa & not perpetual possession of City. Against the low-blow he's predictably comical. Grealish needs to go back to Villa where Emery will improve his game as he enters his prime. Pep will run you to the ground, then replace you with some young bloke, Doku. Ask Raheem & Jesus.
since signing for City he has won 7 major trophies. yeah biggg mistake. he is a household name now ( for better or worse ). you are lying if you say you wouldn't have done the same thing in his shoes.
Southgate is a clown 🤡
well said
He doesn’t create or score enough. He gets in to some good positions but his final pass or shot is not good enough.
Grealish should get in the squad. Not as a starter but as the perfect impact sub. Sure he had a injury ravaged season but he does have a champions mentality and can be a very good substitute when needed. I am sure his boozing has not helped his case though
Grealish has experience winning finals and trophies. Unfortunate he’s not going.
Jack Grealish don't bring sh*t, one of the biggest flop over these years
Mans primary skillset is diving. If he wasn't English he'd be playing for a mid table team in Portugal and you wouldn't know his name.
Grealish has been a peripheral part of City this season, injuries aside he’s been average, he deserved a call up no more than Rashford has, and Rashford has been a better player for England.
At least he’s now able to go Ibiza and get totally smashed
Dude chose to be hungover for a whole year after winning champions.
Doku will start over Grealish next season
I will Madueke over Grealish. If Madueke is on top of his game, he can cause anything defender issues
Big mistake not picking Grealish. He has the skill and flair to make a difference.
Aston Villa version Jack Grealish, yes. Current version, effing NO.
@@Iron-Bridge precisely, and eze is closer to the Aston Villa version of grealish than grealish himself
The other players he chose over Grealish are NOT as good. Southgates a MUG
My only criticism is leaving Jack out.
If Grealish was there and not Rashford then this would be mad. I don’t see how he makes if Rashford doesn’t season comparison then it’s fair for him not to be there
The past does not matter because it’s clear that he’s gone in a different direction. I struggle with Ale’s point
For the people who don’t know he is a soccer player from Manchester
Grealish hogs the ball like few can, most often only way for defenders to win it off him is to foul. However, he can't beat most defenders with a dribble. Speed ok, passing good and crossing good. Overall a useful player that Guardiola replaced in City by Doku who is faster and can beat defenders 1vs1 unlike Grealish. Last year they won the treble with Grealish as starter on left flank, this year with Doku they won 1 title, so who's better? JG should have played for his real home nation of Ireland perhaps, wait, Irish didn't make it to Euros either...
How can he leave out the GOAT. Harry Maguire 😮
Injured
Good fooking decision by Southgate! Its about time Grealish is dropped. Been acting like he is drunk everyday since the treble win. Never serious, never in the mindset! Great decisions this time! except Brathwaite should be in!
I don't feel sorry for him, should have stuck with Ireland
100m 32G/A in 3 years what a talent
Eze is far better even Gordon
It's Not surprising. Grealish has been overrated since he arrived at Manchester City.
Utter nonsense coming from Shaka on Grealish. Shaka simply does not watch the games. The dude has been deservedly left out of the English team for Euros 2024
Why am I not surprised. I’ve always thought he wasn’t that good a player anyway. Good call, Southgate 👍
Biggest shock was Rashford to me unless he is injured
How is that a shock lol. He has had embarrassing displays for its this season
Should we talk about the disrespect Tomori gets? Best CB for England, never in the squad.
Grealish has become an average player under Pep. I used to absolutely love him when he was at Villa. Absolutely right decision from Southgate to leave him out.
He was average at villa as well, it’s just cos the expectations were so low
Grealish has been hopeless all year. Thought Madison was unlucky not to go. A waste of 100 million City are stuck with him.
Grealish is a very mid player with too much hype. His numbers are also atrocious
Doku is really hurting Grealish's carreer.
Grealish only keeps the ball. End product and application, very minimal
Keeping Luke shaw while his injured i dont understand England act like his is lionel messi why not just get another left back who is fit to play so the whole of England has bo left back this Luke show guy is not the one taken this team to the final give fit players a chance to play
Grealish is a ponce…. Dive when u blow in his direction and no determination in tackles. Total ponce
As an Irish man I'm delighted for Grealish 🤣🤣🤣🇮🇪
