In ancient Greece it was actually pretty normal, an explanation was an apology. Different cultures apologize different ways. Not sure if Jorge wrote out the songs this way on purpose to fit that or if it was to show in a modern lens that they aren't really sorry for what they did since they don't apologize to our current standards.
This is a great apology by Greek standards. The original apology was literally just someone saying "and I'd do it again but this is how I would change things" You had to justify what you did so it wouldn't come across as if your harm to them was a mistake as that was even further insult
@@dizzisliving2355 “Oh, so you didn’t keep me here just to be a creep. Cool, good to know. I feel a bit better about it now. Still don’t see you that way, but maybe I’ll visit eventually. Bye.” ~ Odysseus probably
@MACova1313 Yeah, but no one believes that. Everyone wants to pretend Calypso kidnapped him and forced herself upon him physically, when really all she did was get too clingy.
*GASP* SHE KNOWS OF EPIC?! YAYAYAYAYAYA!!! IM ACTUALLY SO GLAD!! Oh also quick question if Michaela see this, what is your favorite Saga? Anyways, love your videos as always!! ❤❤❤❤
About the convo y'all were having about Circe trying to seduce Odysseus: Hermes warns him that the Moly lasts "for a moment" and that it lasts "till you've beaten your opponent." The Moly runs out just as Odysseus wins, but he doesn't kill Circe immediately. Circe realizes his time is up and tries to use her powers to seduce him, bringing back Puppeteer and even making Ody sing with her. Ody *_resists her magic_* due to loving his wife so much
Michaela- i will not lie here, seeing you mouthing along to circes parts in there are other ways and you already mentioning wanting to cover songs from this this show, my brain literally shut down and said "... if she ever sings for circe i think my bi little heart will just implode of gay overload", love your voice girl, you would kill it, absolutely loving the video btw i plan to get my friend group to watch the video soon too
Not to excuse Calypso's actions in The Odyssey proper, but Epic tries to make her tragedy come out as best as it can in the two songs it has to work with for her; the first in showing how isolated she was, and the second in showing that despite the fact that she's an adult, she decidedly has *_NOT_* grown up. She feigns taking responsibility while also putting the blame on others for her own emotional stability, much like a child does. It doesn't excuse her actions, but it explains it
Fun fact on Greek mythology: Poseidon actually has more children and affairs than Zeus but we hear more on Zeus’ for some reason. Also Zeus is the god of judgement funnily enough since he is one of the pettiest gods
@@Raska1421 I guess that's because of the repercussions of Zeus's acts, which is, his wife Hera little revenges on his bastards and lovers. That generated many myths, like Heracles history!
@@Raska1421 It's because of Hera being vengeful wife. Poseidon's one is just there, ignoring everything her husband does... Except for that one myth of how Scylla became monster.
Here is my take off the importance of the Odyssey in history... It is probably the second most influential piece of book/story behind only THE BIBLE WHICH STARTED SO MANY WARS
It isn't actually rumors of a stage show it's been confirmed that it's happening and that 2 video games are in the works with another being planned and an animated movie
I love the scylla short of her taking the six sacrifices so freaking much! I have it liked and saved on its own playlist for when I want to watch/hear it on loop. Edit: was enjoying the 600 strike while drawing. Looked up at 2:43:07 to see you looking evil. I have to say. Same, i have that look every time i gear this song. This song and a certain future song. Edit 2: I believe Odysessus is also the great great grandson of Hermes, making him at least a little bit of a demigod by blood. Which is why Hermes helps him as much as he did. Edit 3 (sorry 😭): there are a few songs in this musical that has made me feel icky for good reasons. There are many way, Thunder bringer, and even Love in paradise are them. Hold Them Down (2:56:45) is the most ickiest song to me. The sickness of these men was hard to hear. What they have planned for both Telemachus and Penelope. I've seen some animatics for this song. The implications of what the main dude wanted to do to both of them is horrible. I have a feeling that this guy wasn't only a creep to Penelope but also to Telemachus. His lines in Little Wolf and in Hold Them Down about and towards Telemachus are just...worrying. They rubbed the wrong way to me, which i know was the purpose but still. Just my thought process for a while when listening threw the songs. Edit 4: (3:01:34) 🎉🩸🎉 Edit 5: (3:08:40 - 3:19:23) 🥲❤️🥲
Have you seen Ximena Natzel's animatic for The Challenge? There are some very nice drawings of Odysseus in that one~. I'm also salty that people keep drawing Antinous hot when the character sucks as a person. 😩
@DelliGaming Depends on the interpretation. Some its a curse for hooking up with Poseidon in Athena's temple, others its a blessing for Poseidon forcing himself on her in Athena's temple.
More winions! Yay! Just noticed this after watching your VOD on Twitch and am so glad to see more love for Epic the Musical! And to see Roy now a full-fledged lover of it too is great! I have to ask! If Jorge does eventually do the Illiad, which character do you think you'll be most excited to see portrayed?
Personal favorite Greek story is where Hephaestus makes a living robot cool right powered by god blood and when humans wanted his island they convinced it that it was human and the tube carrying the gods blood was the thing making it look like that so the robot cut it and killed himself and after that Hephaestus got and cursed them the end
regarding the suitors beating up Telemachus w apparently no consequences, that is part of the reason for why Odysseus's slaughter is tacitly allowed by the gods. Because as much as the host has to be polite, SO DO THE GUESTS. THEY VIOLATED THE LAW OF HOSPITALITY. Before Odysseus came home no one could really do anything because these men were all from noble houses with power. Attacking one, even in self defence, would have triggered all of them.
They already finished and did this. But Eurylochus doomed 500+ plus along side the others when they didn't TRUST Ody with the bag of storms. They are the hypocrites conducting mutiny. But ultimately when it is your life, you tend to ignore and forget those things.
On the topic of Calypso, I think it’s just a running theme that no one in Greece knows how to apologize to save their lives.
Literally.

@ModernAegis Basically, yes. Except for the part where she didn't keep him there at all. She was his cell mate, not his warden.
@MACova1313 Yeah, but no one believes that. Everyone wants to pretend Calypso kidnapped him and forced herself upon him physically, when really all she did was get too clingy.

Zeus tends to be more high profile, noncon, and universally not liked. At least poseidon had positive popularity.

We stan Epic Athena. I'm still side eyeing mythology Athena because of what she did to Medusa
@DelliGaming Depends on the interpretation. Some its a curse for hooking up with Poseidon in Athena's temple, others its a blessing for Poseidon forcing himself on her in Athena's temple.
@Bayleaf6399 The one we learned in high school was a mix of the two in the worst way, which was Medusa was assaulted and Athena punished her anyway.
Technically, that's not Athena. That's a Roman myth that they ascribed to Athena. So your issue is with Minerva, not Athena.
^^^ and in Greek myth, Medusa was already a monster, Athena did absolutely nothing to her
