I recently got back into golf after several years and decided to tackle the flop. I never could even get it off the ground. Usually it would just be an aggressive unintentional putt to my immediate right 😂. These tutorials have helped immensely. 👍
The best short game tip I've ever received about the flop shot:--unless you're Phil Mickelson, practicing the shot every day at varying distances:: Don't attempt it. Course management 101. Settle for an 8 footer. If your goal is to try to impress people with 1 shot, go for it. If you're more concerned with your 18 hole scorecard, do the right thing.
You are a very good teacher.. What separates you from others is that when you give your lessons.. They are always on course, not in some studio, confusing people with science and technology.. Good luck..!
Adam, great lesson; what bounce do you recommend with a 58 degree wedge? I have a 56 Wilson staff with 10 degree of bounce (brass Insert as well) witch I open up to imulate a 58. Thank You!!
Just learning the game ,at the minuet I'm sort of all over with different shot skills, but with your great videos and tips I'm sure will improve my game.
That was exactly the shot I've been trying to master. It was outstanding how you explained the shot from your knees and showing explicit information about the tight lie. I would have liked to have seen the shot as it hit the green. Very interested in learning how to hit with the bounce of a wedge. I feel that mastering that puts you under 80. I find playing in Florida you get a lot of shots were you need to hit over a bunker and not have a lot of green to play with. Therefore you need to be able to stop the ball ASAP once it hits the green. Keep up the great work.
Hi Coach, could you please advice, what is the bounce for 60 Degrees is best for Chipping, flop shot and can use for bunker? I’m women, is there any specific type sharp for women? As I came across some shops and they only have 1 type Regular sharp. Thank you so much for your advice.
Hello. For 60 degree I'd suggest 8 or 10 degrees of bounce. That said it depends somewhat on the turf conditions you play off. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
Terrific! Watching the pros and their variety of wedge shots does not translate necessarily to us amateurs. I often find that I am most comfortable with an 8 iron around the green. Really understanding how and when to use a more lofted club and doing it successfully is an art. I recently heard Justin Leonard say that he uses a 7 or 8 most times around the green. He felt it was a new phenomena in the way a lot of professionals use their wedges much more often today. I really struggle with that wedge shot and using a less lofted Pitching wedge makes more sense and will provide me with more confidence hitting a runner that settles more quickly.
After watching several of these, I figured out why this works. These mini lessons don't include coat hangers, water floatations or towels under my armpits. Just how to hit the ball! Crazy!
First hole 20 yards out popped it up worked wonderfully... next hole similar distance hit it thin and it went 80 yards lol i always get nervous hittin this shot so i t try to pitch and run whenever possibke
Morris,Thanks! I plan to do a series on Trouble shots around the green, one of which will be different kinds of flop shots. It will be among the many courses at www.scratchgolfacademy.com Thanks again, Adam
Hey Adam. This video from about 4 years ago is an interesting coincidence. I was just working on the flop shot today and found I could hit it! I am using a Taylormade Big Foot 58 degree wedge to do it. I practiced after my round at Tallwood today. It was amazing and fun to do it. Now I am going to watch what you have to say about it here. I agree with what you said. I think it works well when you have a decent lie like some grass to work with. Have you tried it from the sand at all? Best wishes Adam. Joe :)
Hello Adam, keeping the back of the left palm cupped and faced up to the sky will help increasing the loft, despite the steepness of the shaft to the ground with short irons, steep back swing that we perform vs long irons?
Anthony, If I'm understanding the question correctly it's about the back of the left hand (loft of club) at impact. Other tan a shot where you are looking for extra height, such as a flop or going over a tree, you'd want to compress the ball more. This would mean more of a delofted look in back of lead hand through impact. Hope this helps a bit. Best, Adam
It would be nice for you to bring up the Late Mike Austin from time to time. He was the God Granddad to golf. Nobody on this earth as come close to his swing methods. And never will unless coaches like yourself start to follow and continue his journey in the best swing methods in the world.
@@Scratchgolfacademy Mike Austin trained long distance world champions not tour champions. Nobody could hit the ball straighter and longer then Mike Austin. That's why he was in the Guinness book of records for the longest drive on tour with old equipment. He could not put for toffee that's why he never made it on tour. He helped Ben hogen with his bad hook, and he was 50 years ahead of anyone and he should have more respect, and because he was a difficult man and blow away every tour pro with his methods nobody liked him If you want to be the best at something then you learn from the best. He was not interested in tour players he made is money hustling. So he was the godfather of golf to everyone who is learning his methods. Every person I know who his following his methods are hitting the golf ball further as and straighter then ever before. If he didn't you would not be wasting 20 years studying Mike.
Good video to watch but for those listening in at home or with headphones keep your hand on the volume; it is all over the place. Not for home viewing on a decent setup.
This is not a flop shot. It is a basic soft pitch. A flop shot has relatively extreme height vs. horizontal distance. When does a soft pitch get high enough to become a flop? I don't know, but this ain't it.

I have found that if I bring the club a little over the top, I can get under the ball much easier!!
Michael,
If that works for you that's fine. Just make sure it dosn't get steep enough to dig too much.

normally in flop shots the best players in the world use a lot of wrists hinge
Hinge produces speed, which can be helpful. For shorter shots and everyday players I recommend what’s in the video
