    This list is insane! Sounds like it’s gonna be an awesome year of reading, I have 4 or 5 here on my list to read next year too.

    The Hyperion Cantos is my favorite series of all time. Each book brought about such strong feelings in me. I have been chasing those feelings in books ever since . I've never replicated them. I hope you get to them and I'd love to hear what you think of them.

    I agree with you, Kathi, no need to limit our priority series! XD I'm doing multiple videos with different lists for next year so I can get all my priority books and series down on video.
    I am so excited to see Lies of Locke Lamora on your list! It's one of my all time favorites. :D Faithful and the Fallen is a very fast reading series, you'll get through that easily.
    Also VERY HAPPY to see Long Price Quartet on your list too! One of the most underrated masterpieces of the fantasy genres.

      There are so many things I want to read I simply couldn't limit myself.
      I am looking forward to Lies of Locke Lamora particularly as I've already started it. Oh that is such a ringing endorsement on LPQ I might have to bump it up the list.
      Thank you so much for watching, it was great "meeting" you at Matt's.

    The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is my second favorite fantasy series behind Malazan. Donaldson's prose is second to none. There are 10 books in all. The incident that bothered you comes back to haunt Covenant in later books. Also this series has the best giants in fantasy.
    Scott Lynch has been having emotional problems, so we may not get any more books from him.
    The Expanse series and the Hyperion series are two favorites of mine.
    I just cracked open Alan Moore's book Jerusalem. It's a monster. I love big books.

    • @NerdyKathi

      I'm looking forward to giving Donaldson another go.
      With Lynch at least there are three books currently out.

    Dragon Bone Chair and the Raymond Feist books are awesome. Shadow of a Dark Queen was the first fantasy book I ever read and then I read all of his other books, but there was such a long time between reading the Shadow of a Dark Queen and the other Midkemia books that were published around 15 years ago, that I stopped reading them because it refereed to events that happened in the Shadow of the Dark Queen series that I'd forgot about and I didn't have them to refresh my memory. It's nice to see someone mention these old fantasy stories because I feel like younger readers don't bother with them.

    Very much a mood reader myself - I'd start a series with every intention of completing it - and then get distracted by a title that caught my attention...and then another...and then another; it's happened *so* many times. 😏
    One series that I HAVE to finish is Terry Goodkind's: The Sword of Truth series...and the connected The Nicci Chronicles and The Children of D'Hara.

    • @NerdyKathi
      @NerdyKathi  Місяць тому +1

      I'm usually good at finishing a series, unless I give up on it in the middle. Hopefully I'll be able to cross some off next year.
      Enjoy Goodkind. I very much enjoyed Sword of Truth and have read it twice.

  • @evastrange

    It always makes me happy to see Memory, Sorrow and Thorn on booktube. It is weirdly underrepresented online, considering that it and its author are such foundational pillars of the modern epic fantasy genre. I'm sure the Broken Binding editions are nice, but nothing beats the original cover art by Michael Wheelan, imo. To Greenangel Tower: Siege is perfection.
    I'm going to start The Expanse this year, too. Unlike you, I could never get into the TV show, but I like Daniel Abraham and I liked The Mercy of Gods last year, and that made me eager to try The Expanse after all. If only it weren't a million volumes long…

    • @NerdyKathi
      @NerdyKathi  4 дні тому

      Hi Eva! It always surprises me how many older fantasies are ignored. I think MST is gaining more popularity today. I love the BB editions but I also have the old mass market paperbacks so best of both worlds.
      That's one reason I haven't started The Expanse as well but I'm looking forward to starting it.
      Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

    I've always been an apologist for the Covenant series, but I do understand the reason people pull away from it for the reason you referred to. The thing is, the character's efforts to come to grips with his act, his related health issues, and the relationship that comes of these things, are such a poignant part of the story, there's a certain catharsis that emerges that makes the series worth reading. IMHO of course. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

    • @NerdyKathi
      @NerdyKathi  Місяць тому

      I have also been told by friends that it was not gratuitous and necessary for the character's development. Thank you for confirming this.

    I've been meaning to buy the Hyperion series, as I'm currently filling my shelves with Stephen King's and Dan Simmons novels. I've heard they are really good. It's a shame what happened to Dan. He's not written a novel since 2015, when he fell and hit his head on a rock. You have plenty of options to choose from there. Obviously you cannot read them all next year especially between other novels.

    • @NerdyKathi

    Hey! We're on the same page! Just piled my Tad Williams MS&T series on the night table after they sat on my shelf for 10 years. Thank you for the inspiration, will be enjoying this in good company! It's going to be fantastic. Also, just bought his new addition to the series' second half! Must say that Wanderers was less than expected. Epic scope and an articulate writing style eventually collided with the weight of the book. One main character, a total fail for me, since he can't be taken seriously whatsoever. Hopefully the sequel is good. See what you think. I'll check back with you. Best wishes in 2025!!

    Interesting Picks! For my 2025 Series Priority will be 'The GRISHA TRILOGY' by Leigh Bardugo for sure, before I watch the TV series. Really excited to delve into the story. 'The Faithful and The Fallen' series by John Gwynne is in my TBR pile already for over a year now but I think it could wait since I got the Grisha first.
    I read Chuck Wendig's ZEROES last year, which is a sci-fi, action. His prose is actually Good in my opinion. The 'Wanderers' actually piqued my interest/curiosity and I'm think of picking that one up too in the future.

    Hyperion is a priority of mine every new year and has been for.. well, I don't know ten plus years? Somehow I never seem to reach for it on the bookshelf. Next year is the year I think with Thebrokenbinding releasing a special edition.
    My priority series for next year are The Wars Of Light And Shadow by Janny Wurts which I've read the first few books of many times over the years and somehow have never read past book three despite enjoying them. I'd also like to give Daniel Abraham a go myself, probably I'll start with The Long Price Quartet.

      I love David Eddings. He was my first introduction to fantasy. I really enjoyed Williams, but if you want more fantasy like Eddings ... hmm, I've heard Michael J Sullivan might be similar, Jim Butcher has a lot of humour but he writes urban fantasy. Feist is always good as well.

    Many of your choices are new to me, but I have read the first 2 (from when the books were printed as 6 instead of 3) of the Riyria Revelations and Lies of Locke Lamora and enjoyed those 3 very much! I'm in the midst of a dozen or so fantasy series that I need to continue, so I'm thinking Robin Hobb, Anne McCaffery, Terry Pratchett, Jim Butcher, Michael J Sullivan, Scott Lynch and a few others all have series that I need to finish. In my 3 years of reading fantasy, I have only completed 2 series - the Broken Earth trilogy by Jemisin and the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. I practically inhaled all 10 of the Kate Daniels ones in just a few weeks and had to really work to get through the Jemisin ones. I've also tried a couple of series that I will never finish. Nalini Singh is not my cup of tea, and neither is Pierce Brown. One has too much explicit sex and the other has too many explicit battles! LOL! I look forward to hearing which series you actually get to next year 🙂. Thank you for the visit!

    That's an all star list! For what it's worth, with Lord Foul's Bane, I completely understand why if someone chooses to avoid that series, because it does contain some despicable stuff and I'm not about to defend it. All I'll say is that it's not belittled by being simply gratuitous or for shock value, and whether it was necessary at all I'll leave for smarter folks than me to debate 😂
