This was an amazing episode and honestly, very useful. This is the sort of tutorials I've been looking for. Being new to anytype, it can be difficult to understand generic concepts like PARA and how exactly to implement them in anytype. Charlotte did an amazing job doing just that. Thank you! And yes, she has a great voice and narration sped for these tutorials
Hello, just want to say that I may have run into a couple of limitations or slight difficulty in choosing what exactly the type should be, but I must say it is still quite a flexible software. It is so refreshing to see the creators showing how they use it or what are the possibilities. Enjoying the videos a lot. Thanks so much!
Thanks for your kind comment - it brought a smile to my face :) We're making some efforts to show more of the team and how we use Anytype, this is really encouraging.
Great work charlotte 😃👍. I can personally say that this video was really impressive and although I've been using anytype for over a year now, trying to optimize everything, it was a breath of fresh air and I learned a lot from your organization. I think if Any team can keep producing this kind of quality videos in the future, more and more people would feel welcomed and less threatened to switch since I've been reading a lot of reviews and comments from people who felt confused by all the capabilities of Anytype. I for one can't still make sense of "collection" and how I can properly leverage its functionalities in my system since I've heard and read a lot that Collection is the single most powerful feature of Anytype. Anyway, great work!
Thank you Daniel!! Glad to hear it was useful, the nice thing about trying a new framework is that it pushed me to use some different approaches in Anytype and in the process, figure out new workflows that previously weren't obvious to me. So it's a constant discovery process on our side too! ☺
@@Anytype I totally understand. This kind of practices helps us rediscover the existing features in somewhat new frameworks! That's the beauty of having such a powerful PKM tool😍
I'm using a similar system but opted for sets instead of collections for the PARA categories. I'm not sure which is better, but I'm starting to feel Anytypes limitations. The linking is very cumbersome and not intuitive. Also, your system will eventually require additional filters/sorting as you add more objects (primarily to the resources category). You're also missing an important factor to the system, the objects within an area either need to be categorized as projects or resources. That means you need a way to link these to a relevant area and also be able to show them on the area itself. I'm currently doing this with inline sets but the overall linking system in Anytype needs more work and makes it difficult. We at least need a way to see (and even filter by) an objects backlinks. We also need bi-directional object relations like notion has. These would make it easier to link objects together.
Hey, thanks for your comment! I ran into a lot of the same difficulties you mentioned; started with sets as you've done, but realised that some object types cannot be changed, and would therefore be excluded from the query. I suppose I could have tried organising everything with a tag system, but without a good way to manage my tags right now, it seemed collections were my next best option. They're way more flexible in allowing for linking/adding objects, the main problem is that everything needs to be manually linked & unlinked, which is indeed really cumbersome. Also agree that object backlinks become essential in this kind of system - the best attempt I made was adding relations: 'linked projects'/'linked areas'/'linked resources' to every set & collection, but this got confusing very quickly. We hope to ship the first version of backlinks this year, hopefully that will ease up some of these issues 😁
@@Anytype Thanks for the response. Anytype has a lot of potential but it's just not there yet, it's missing too many basic features and the timeline to get them seems a ways off. Here's just a few examples: - Backlinks (how is this missing?) - A counter for how many objects are in a kanban column or any other view for that matter (how many rows do I have in my table... who knows!) - Bi-directional object relations - The ability to edit and remove default types and relations - Files as full objects - Filtering sets by "or" not just "and" logic - Self-pointing filters for templates
@@Chase_Crawford Also the ability to link multiple objects at the time, without having to slowly link them one by one. On another note, why don't objects in a collection get linked automatically??
Hi, thank you for the beautiful video! How did you export your entire personal space and, most importantly, make a new personal space at 2:12? Are you forced to log out and create a new account for each personal space?
Hi! To export your space, you can click the 'space' settings button and export your entire account in JSON or Protobuf. Then, I actually logged out and hit 'join' again to create a new account with a new recovery phrase, and imported the previous account. But! In our next release we're bringing multi-spaces, so you won't need to use a new recovery phrase - you'll be able to add and delete different spaces in your account :)
I quite like this way to organize all the stuff, but I don't understand why you changed all the objects that in a PARA catagory, like area, into type area, is it necessay? as long as it's collection, it doesn't matter what type that object is, right?
Hi! You are totally right, it isn't necessary to have a type. Somehow for me it felt more comfortable to open an object and see which category it fell into (project / area / resource), which is why I gave it a type. I could have also used tags to achieve this, but when I tried this approach, it felt too easy to forget to tag the objects (whereas it is always necessary to give my objects a type). Now, when I use type: page/note etc. the object usually fall under an area, like 'diary entries' or 'German practice' for instance.
Thank you very much for this video - well done and great to watch. I am coming from Notion where I have a Task Table inside each Project showing which Tasks are still open. Is there a way to do this?
Hi! In this case, I think the best way would be to create an inline set of tasks (/inline set) as a block inside each project page. You can set up filters to search all tasks with status: open.
Hello Charlotte. I have just come across your presentation and loved every second of it. I am a big fan of the PARA method myself and have built this into my Anytype instance. I'll be happy to share my screen next time you have a product demo🙂. Warm regards, MS

I was testing multiple apps to pick one for my personal knowledgement and I really loved Anytype. Thanks for your feedback, we will be adding this an other organization methods to the onboarding so users can enable it by default :) About base_type, the closest option we have now are relations, where you can specify E-mail address or Number or Object as parameters/properties to other objects. However, tuning numbered relations with €/$ for instance, is currently not possible - though the team is aware and it's on our agenda!

I'm struggling a little with Lists, and how to make sure every object I add to a list has the right relation. I created the Areas collection. Then I created a new Area called "Coffee" for all my coffee experimentation, tracking recipes for specific beans, etc. So I created a new object type called "Coffee Bean". Then, on the page for my "Coffee" area, I tried creating a new set based on the object "Coffee Bean". I create new objects in the set, and I can see the set of various coffee beans. Fine. But, when I go to the graph view, whatever Coffee Bean objects I added to via the set are just orphaned in the graph. The list itself automatically shows a relation to the Coffee area, but the beans are not related to anything. If you go search all objects and open the individual Coffee Bean items, you have to trace to show that this was created in the Coffee area. I don't see a way to, by default, say that every coffee bean object will be related to the area "Coffee". Do you just have to manually "link" them every time you add a new bean to the set?
maybe I just figured out a solution: in my custom Template for "Coffee Bean", added a "link to existing object", where I link it to the "My Beans" set that lives on my Coffee area page. I'm happy with it being hardcoded to always link to this list. Not sure if it's the best way, but seems to work
I hope Anytype can do what Craft.do can do. There are certain aspects of Craft that even Notion doesn’t have which is ‘slide to choose paragraph’. I love the idea of Anytype but since I can’t slide to choose paragraph quickly, I feel Anytype still limited. I don’t know how to explain but if you know how Craft works you should adopt some of its features. I’m glad if Anytype can replace Craft for me. 😊

I'll pass it on to them - in the meantime, creating a feature request on our forum describing/screenshotting your desired solution is probably the best way to get visibility from our dev & product teams: community.anytype.io ☺
Isn't this like ditching the fundamental concept of types of this application? 2:37: The first three categories - projects, areas, and resources - could be formatted as collections. Collections felt like the most suitable object type because I needed an easy way to add any object, regardless of the type, to one of these categories - similar to the way folders work on your computer.
Hi! The reason I didn't use types is that some of Projects, Areas, or Resources could include Sets & Collections - so filtering according to types wouldn't be possible. However, if one uses the app for strictly note taking, it would probably be easier to format the P/A/R as sets filtering for the respective types.
Thank you for this great tutorial ! It helps to understand this fabulous and promising software. Just as a personal input, I don't feel helpful for me to create types "Project", "Area" or "Ressource". I prefer to work with sub-collections instead of Types. In example, to have a sub-collections "My project XYZ" linked to my main collection "PROJECTS" or "Finance education" sub-collection linked to my main collection "AREAS" and so on (maybe I'll change my mind in the future as I imrove my understanding of Anytype). For the Archives, I love the idea of a set filtered on a the Tag "Archive" :)
Thanks for watching all the way through! In testing this method more it ultimately did end up being more helpful to mainly rely on collections (rather than Types); their flexibility was much more useful in this case.
Hi! We're trying to improve the import process now, so your feedback helps. If you search in your space for 'protobuf import', do you see a collection with this name? Thank you.
Hi! Template imports are very early-stage right now, but you can go to doc.anytype.io/anytype-docs/use-cases/para-method-for-note-taking, scroll to the bottom, and download the zip file. Then you would need to go to your space settings, click 'Import' and choose Any-block format. We are working on improving the process!
Thanks for your feedback! We definitely are aware that the intuitiveness of UX is an issue for many getting started with Anytype and look forward to making gradual improvements along with the big features this year.
Du lernst also Deutsch? :) Dann kannst du mir mit Sicherheit sagen wann ihr das feature: Tabs und mehrere Seiten in mehreren Tableisten implementiert? Danke für deine Antwort und dir ein schönes Wochenende. Cheers Thomas ;)

Do you mean the method itself or how we've explained it in the video? For me, 'archive' seems mainly relevant for projects and sometimes areas - resources are less likely to be 'archived' unless they're related to a specific project with an end date.
@@Anytype Sorry for the misunderstanding. Charlotte's explanation of Tiago Forte's PARA method is perfect. My criticism is regarding the classification between Archive and Areas of the method itself. Basically, it is a philosophical question. If the purpose of Archive is analyzed as a kind of done, in a GTD system, projects, in which something must be buried, extinguished, to make way for something new, it makes sense, for the purpose of managing time and resources. But in a creative PKM, where past experiences can be reused in the present and future, there would never be a useful function for a definitive archive of ideas, experiences and facts. So, better explaining my understanding, for those who use a PKM for creativity, serendipity, saying that something will be archived forever and will never be reused, doesn't make sense, and is better understood as something pending in Areas.
@@sdnnvs Well its nice I think in the very least to separate Areas and completed tasks. So when one clicks Areas, there are all these different categories, versus a hodgepodge of Areas and archived documents. And in the PARA video, he says he has it in Archive so it's searchable and still easily accessed, but it isn't exactly an Area that would need to be accessed as frequently.
@@sdnnvsarchive isn't mean to be removed and not useful anymore, it's mean to be out of the way of your current focus, the PAR are thing you mighty work on/with every weeks or at least actively, while archive are things that are no longer active either because that project is completed, that area isn't relevant (moved house, the previous house area isn't relevant and start a new one) same for resources. So now they are not cluttering your daily work with your pkm. But if you need to recover anything is still searchable and findable. In the house example above, you might to bring back the notes about your telecoms as you did moves those with you, then bring them back to the active area.
@@Anytype Hi!! For your next video on the PARA Method by Tiago Forte, I would love to see a few specific examples of when and how to move items into each "folder." Tiago has a video with a "checklist" to determine the appropriate "folder," but it would be really helpful to see the reasoning behind organizing a cluttered system using the PARA method. It would be great if you could include a use case that demonstrates how to handle new items after the initial setup, showing the process even after tasks are completed. Additionally, it would be beneficial to see how to create a note offline and later group it correctly, switching it to the preferred object type. Thank you!
Thanks for all of this, it is exactly what I need. However, when you take the actions you are discussing, you go way too fast for me [and I assum other newbs] to get much good out of the video. As such I spend too much time setting up the system and not getting work done. Is there any way you could slow down your actions so I could see how you are doing what you are talking about? Just having new screens pop up just adds more questions. Or, have someone else make a more detailed video or blog. For example, at the very start you mention 'Space' 2 or 3 times, but then open a new account? Does the data go to a space or yet another anytype account? Please dont hate me ... Good work on the update!
Hi, thanks of your feedback! We will work on making additional tutorials with slower walkthroughs of basic actions. The recording was done before the multi space update, this is why it was necessary to create a new account in order to utilise a new space. Now it's possible to simply export your space, create a new one, and import it again.

Hi! We're trying to improve the import process now, so your feedback helps. If you search in your space for 'protobuf import', do you see a collection with this name? Thank you.
nothing of that name
@@Anytype
@@CraigAllen Thanks! We've updated the file, it should be working ok now.
Yes, thank you, import works now! @@Anytype
the fact that it's offline puts it 50% ahead of Notion
I've searched all over the internet for "how to import template for anytype" but have found no resources to explain this.
IMHO it would be nice to have a less agressive UX/UI. Have a look at capacities. Anytype with the UX/UI of capacities would be great!
Thanks for your feedback! We definitely are aware that the intuitiveness of UX is an issue for many getting started with Anytype and look forward to making gradual improvements along with the big features this year.
Du lernst also Deutsch? :)
Dann kannst du mir mit Sicherheit sagen wann ihr das feature: Tabs und mehrere Seiten in mehreren Tableisten implementiert?
Danke für deine Antwort und dir ein schönes Wochenende.
Cheers Thomas ;)
Hallo Thomas! my german is not good enough to explain clearly! Sorry, mein Deutsch ist nicht gut genug, um es klar zu erklären! Tabs are not yet on the roadmap but they're a popular feature request. If you haven't yet upvoted, I would encourage you to do so in our community forums & let us know your thoughts!

@@Anytype Thank you for your answer. When the feature is available, I will switch from Notion to anytpe! :D
I am sooo wasting today diving into this:))

The division Archives and Resources doesn't make sense, in PARA Method.
Do you mean the method itself or how we've explained it in the video? For me, 'archive' seems mainly relevant for projects and sometimes areas - resources are less likely to be 'archived' unless they're related to a specific project with an end date.
Just change the section's name yourself so that it starts making sense. The explanation was clean.
Tbh I don’t see the light yet
等我好好研究一下,给你们做个使用经验分享
Make tutorials pleaaasee im losst
It's so perfect but idk how to use it properly:
Thank you for nice words! What tutorial specifically would you like to see?
本来还犹豫要不要搬,看到主创和内容创作者都是女性,果断搬。
You lack content. The product is awesome but toutrial stop me from doing something like notion
Hope to work on more content over the next several months - if you have specific ideas, free free to let us know :)
You're right, I was looking for a alternative to Notion and found Anytype. It is no as easy to use as Notion but it's very powerful. Spent 2 hours trying to understand when I was giving up, decided to read about the concepts and once I understood I could create my structure. Now I'm close to replace notion with advantages such as local network synch.
Likewise, you cannot use its true potential until you see the documentation
Is there anyone in here who could teach me the software? At least walk me through the basics of it? I’d be happy to compensate.
I feel like I need years to understand everything in this video.
Hi, thanks for watching! This video is indeed full of concepts and not exactly targeted for new users. We will work on creating more beginner-friendly content. For now, I'd recommend the following channels made by our community members:

Not comprehensive tutorials at all. Not explaining the important details. More like a Walk out through.
Hi anybody. I'm one of your viewers. I'm not 'everybody' of course. No one is. So, don't say 'hi everybody' cause there ain't no such person: everyone watches one at a time in their own study.
