We would be Type 5 Civilization if all UA-cam educational videos were like this information dense yet consumable all at once. Thanks man, this was honestly the only Anytype video I sticked to after juggling through 10+ of them
This was explained really well! I've been installing AnyType only to uninstall it shortly after trying it again, for a few weeks now because I feel like I don't fully understand the features and can't quite figure out how to organize my docs here, but I still keep wanting to give it a shot just because I keep seeing people say it's like Obsidian meets Notion. This helped give me a better idea on how to use it, thanks!
thanks for the video, the app has indeed change, I am new user and it's nothing like your old video. But I didn't quite get the differences between sets and collections, and the inline collections or sets stuff. If you could explain again it would be great thanks again.
Obsidian is locally saved (unless you pay money) whereas your AnyType account can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have the password (the set of random words they give you). that was my reason for switching over
Anytype is Object-based. Obsidian is markdown. Obsidian is better for writing/long text documents. Anytype is superior when it comes to task management, or managing lots of little bits of info. It's more of a workspace, and less of a place for long notes (for now).
Anytype is object-based, meaning that each "note" you make can be categorized as a different kind of note. Onenote is more basic from that perspective, but it does have better handwriting/drawing support from what I hear. Whatever serves your use case best, I think - if you're an iPad drawing guy, go Onenote. If you want a full database, go Anytype.
I still don't get how all the components relate, Spaces, Category, Objects, Pages....If for e.g. I was studying 3 topics, would I create 3 x Spaces? and then within each Space sub-categories pertaining to that topic?
You could create 3 spaces, one for each topic. You could also make a page for each, and use collections to organize the notes on each subject. You can't link objects between spaces (yet), so it probably wouldn't be super helpful to use separate spaces if you wanted to connect that info.
this seems so unnecessarily complicated, I work with Obsidian, Capacities, Logseq, Airtable, Coda ... but I see no benefit in Anytpe. Anything I missed?
Even the creators of the app couldn't be bothered to make a quick intro vid like this. Thanks for posting this. Convinced me it's "too much GUI + mouse clicking" to be an actual useful note taking app. It's a frigging database of uselessness really.
The app is actually really good, since it’s local it’s lightning fast and for me I open up the app, press ‘+’ and it’s creating a new note. I think, just like notion, the more you fiddle with these things the worse the productivity becomes (unless you’re using some complex specific feature). But generally this app is really good, the only one I’ve stuck with.
@@CardboardBoxedI strongly agree, this is my takeaway too. It had to grow on me and I had to unlearn the endless optimization various other programs baited you into (as a user of Obsidian since the absolute beginning, too much freedom is a bad thing)
Wow... Great summary ! It took me hours to figure that out... Just for info, I'm French native speaker... Ouch... Where did you learn to speak so quickly... Hard to follow... I've to stop the video each 3 seconds in order to read automatic UA-cam translations... 🥴
"Anytype is locked into passphrase nonsense" Do yourself favour. If you do not understand privacy issues, don't crap on them. It seriously undermines your credibility - a lot. If you took the time to understand why anytype uses key phrase, you would understand how great that is. You may not agree that your particular usage/thread models demands this level of privacy, that is fine to state. Butyou are making a video to the general public, not minions that follow your own personal likes/dislikes. You are not being objective at all. I chose anytype precisely because of them using IPFS with key phrase you add to your password manager. They have a stand alone, fully offline app. Not Capacities which is tied to the cloud and who knows how your data is used.
Would you be willing to explain to me why a key phrase is better than a password? I was a little confused on your objection, but I can't find your other comment now. As I mentioned in that response, I have no real issue with a key phrase, I just find it inconvenient and slower than a password.
@@pianomacpower Sure. Keyphrases are fr far more secure than password. Absolutely *any* person who deals with security will tell you that. It is much harder to break and it is also easier for people to remember. Given that people would be storing a lot of personal information into these 'second brains', I applaud the makers of anytype they use phrases, which goes well to secure the IPFS. Now your objection that it is too long to type also explains frankly you are not using it well. The idea is that you use a password manager - keepassXC is one of the better ones - in which you store this key phrase. You then never have to type it manually. KeepassXC even supports auto type - you just point to the app/field and KeepassXC will fill it in for you, bypassing clipboard too (since tat is what malware monitors). So now you have a scenario where you have a very secure vault and do not have to remember the keyphrase for it. By the way something like KeepassXC works in all your apps and even websites and it logs you in -0 you don't even have to cut and paste. Cheers
One of the best PKM intro videos I have seen! Bravo!
thank you!!! we all need short videos and not 45 min "introduction to XY app" :)

Thank you for sharing this video!! I was so confused by watching other youtuber's guide videos. This helps a lot!👍👍👍
set , collection, page, Object can it get more confusing?
Thank you for this video! Great explanation, easy to understand & concise! 👏
Best anytype video by far! Thank you a lot
my dude.. this has been amazing. Thx very very much
Awesome feature with notes representation. I didn't know about it. Thanks. 👍

I really needed this, thank you!
When I was your age we used the slash command extensively in Lotus 123, the 1980's version of Excel. 😀
The fact that the Note don't have Title, IS very valuable for me.
I just started using Obsidian and this seems very similar, perhaps with more features. Is there any reason to use this instead of Obsidian?

@@bpyku What kind of nonsense is this?😂 AnyType is local-first.

What's the difference between onenote and anytype? Is it justifiable for me to switch to anytype when I'm already used to onenote?

great vid - thanks !
Thank you for your video. Any type seems really good but I'm overwhelmed and feel lost.
You are absolutely talented about making tutorial 👍

Pretty good, thanks. But it should cover how to switch it to dark mode right after the introduction...
Oh fair. I shouldn't forget the dark mode users as much as I do...

Shoot, sorry about that 😅 I'm native English, and I do a debate club, so it's a bad habit to talk quickly. I shall try to slow down in future videos.
You can slow down the speed of UA-cam videos in the video settings. :)
I just watched a tutorial on Spring Boot 6 and Anytype is harder to understand
Honestly, Is that your Voice, or some kind of an AI tool ?
Nope, that's me... I'm not super interested in meddling with AI tools. Is this asked as a good thing or a bad thing? XD
too fast!
It's so confusing to use. I'm going back to Notion, it's more convenient.
