    I bought a '64 Old's F85/Cutlass 2dr post sedan in '18 for $500 w/a bilt BB 425ci.. 2spd jet away automatic, not run in 20yrs. It runs now and really didn't take too much to get it to run. I've got about 5k into 'er so far but it's almost ready and shouldn't need but another 1-2K to finish.. I'll race you for pink slips when you're ready... .. . jk, but have fun stay safe and enjoy the fruits of your labor.. of love. Nova's are very trendy rite now but it's just like all the past models ie Camaro's Chevelle's Corvette's Tri-Five's Monza's Vega's mustang's etc.. they're just the fave flavor of the last few yrs. Nice Job, Hatch.. now about that race.. 1/4 mile or 1/8th ..?

    Man, this is really impressive, I love Chevy Novas and I am loving this build. I live in Brazil and you can ask any car enthusiast around here, this country is a curse for gearheads. In comparison, US$7200 (roughly R$35.640 in brazilian real) is absurdly cheap to build a car like this one, I can garantee you that if this car in this conditions were being sold here, it would not cost less than R$75.000 (roughly US$15.121 US dollars).

    Definitely worth the money, I think with all the parts,you got a screaming deal for $1,500 ,and as far as the outcome you have a great cruiser, cruise night car,get in drive it, and enjoy it and not worry about rock chips,dirt etc👍

      Glad you appreciate it and see the value in it Chris. Now that I’ve had it on the road for a while and have some time behind the wheel it was worth every single penny to me personally. My kids LOVE riding around in this car and we take it EVERYWHERE. I wouldn’t trade this car or the memories we have made in it so far for anything.

    That thing is wicked cool. I love the original blue paint and rally stripe, even with mismatched panels. I did a very similar build with a '69 last year. I had the shell already and a lot of parts off of other projects like you and I got mine running and driving for right at 2k out of pocket. I think your estimates are right on par.

      Paid $600 for my '69 Nova with the original running(barely) 2 barrel 307, column shift turbo 350 and 2.73 highway gears back in 1992. It didn't have a speck of rot, only oxidation and minor surface rust. The interior was nearly mint other than a tiny rip in the head liner and slightly faded carpet. It was literally someones grandmother's car that sat in a garage for 10 years after she quit driving.
      I sold the Nova in '97 with a new paint job, hopped up 327 and 4.10 gears for $3k. Yes, I'm an ass and should have kept the car. People are asking that much for decent condition 4th gen's(75-79) today. If I didn't already have an '80 Camaro in the body shop right now, I did see a solid '71 Ventura for $3200 on FB not long ago. With a nose job and new tail light panel it could've made a nice Nova Clone. The Omega's and Apollo's also have potential and can often be found cheap if you don't mind the 73-74 style 1/4 windows.

    Not everyone has $1 million to build a dream car. It’s great to show people that they can get out there and build something their self and to get it on the road great job.

    • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Brandon! Future plans for this car will be upgrading stuff on a budget to try to compare driveability/bang for the buck against my 69 build. The 69 is not built on a budget and has some pretty expensive parts on it. I want to do things like swap a ford 8.8 rear from a junkyard to get cheap limited slip/better gear ratio and stuff like that to see if this car can hang with my other one for a fraction of the cost.

    Great explanation. And soon as you include your kids in on the build priceless. My kids are out of school and my original baby boy is 6' 3" 270 lb. We still talk about our adventures with cars and the occasional build. Right there is your positive feedback and return on your investment. Thousand dollars for the engine transmission. I would do that in a heartbeat especially if it is a327. Firstly you probably have as much invested as about what the cards worth. But if you can spruce it up a little bit and do things yourself. I believe from this point on then your return on every dollar you put in will get you two or three dollars back. If you do it yourself. By the way I'm one of those old guys from the 80s and thank you for the heads up to us old guys. I take no offense. No one should. All of us and I know I am thrilled to see somebody your age building these Novas. By the way I had the same conversation with my dad. Dad that just aren't any $25 cars left you got to spend about $300 to get one! Time to really don't change. Just more expensive.

    @sixesand9s56 2 роки тому +2

    It cost me $4200 to buy a roller and make it my daily. It needs painted and new seat covers but the drivetrain and suspension is dependable. Heads/cam SBC w/4spd and 3.55 10 bolt. Like you I had stuff laying around for it and would guess someone else could spend another $2-4k to replicate the build if they had no parts.
    I'd say your prices are in line with what most people can expect.

    • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997  2 роки тому +2

      I tried to do kinda the same thing. I wanted to make it drivable but didnt really care what it looked like as long as is was structurally solid and reliable. You definitely have some better drivetrain components then i do though haha. I bet that warmed over sbc and four speed is way better then my 210hp 327, powerglide and open 10 bolt. Future plans for this car will be to hop up some of that stuff though. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video!

    You forgot Labor, and garage space rental, say 8 hours a week for 6 months, 8 x 4 x 6 = 192 x $50 per hour let us say $10000 plus in a city $500 per month garage space rental, another $3000. please note that this does not include tools or tool rental. For me to build it here in NYC, around $21000, but as you said the experience was PRICELESS! I salute you!

    • @2litrepeter.
      @2litrepeter. 2 роки тому +5

      Not exactly. I reckon you could build one even cheaper than this fella. It’s a budget hobby build so your labour is free. Eg. If you enjoy jogging you don’t put an hourly rate on going for a run. Basic toolkit even Chinese made is adequate. A welder will be necessary but even the cheapest flux core mig gets the job done. Scrap metal is easy to scavenge as repair panels. You don’t need a garage, plenty of people build a car like this under a shady tree in the back or front yard.

  • @clunkersandclassics
    @clunkersandclassics 2 роки тому +1

    It cost me $5200 to build my 72 and have been offered $20k for it, which I turned down. I went all the way though, new paint, interior, etc. I would fix your car the same way, put on bumpers, tailights, a non rusty hood and decklid, etc..then it would be worth a whole lot more than what you would have into it. Paint it even if you just use some cheap tractor paint and do it outside under your canopy, anything is better than the way it looks now. Tough to say what it's worth as is since you're in NJ but here in Texas it would be worth about $3000. You nailed the drivetrain though, nothing wrong with it value wise. I just wouldn't stop now, finish it up.

    • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997

      I watched your build series on your channel (great job btw really enjoyed the videos, used some of your tips for fixing rust in back window channel on mine). I will put a front bumper on it as soon as I locate a good used one for it and it has tail lights in it. To me however the car is more fun and enjoyable as the ratty street freak it is (people love this thing when i have it out). All the rusty junk parts kinda make up the character of this thing and I like it the way it is. I actually took a poll on social media to see if viewers/subscribers would be interested in seeing me paint match the front clip to match the patina of the blue and the majority ruled to leave it how it is. Future plans for this car will include budget friendly upgrades to rear end, suspension, brakes, and maybe warm over the sbc. I have no interest on continuing with any bodywork making money off the car was never my main goal. To me this was the car I wish I had slapped together in high school and beat on with my friends.

    You got a brother that wants to buy my 74 hatchback? By the way back in the 80s us older guys, we want it real muscle 💪 cars. Hanover wasn't a real muscle car 🚨. Even fifteen years ago it was still being debated. Hold on that's just how it was for you send me the hate mail people. I've owned probably six Nova's in my lifetime and that's pretty good considering how many cars I actually have and still do own. I still own 2 novas. So I'm not a hater I'm just taking back in time machine to what we thought back in the day. My Farm Friends older brothers had Shelby's. 440 chargers hemi cars and so forth. Innova just couldn't compete with all that. Until my little Mom start driving my little yellow souped-up Nova that looks bone stock. And started putting them away from stop light to stop light! Now I do not recommend any type of street racing. But my mom's not here to tell you the story thank you for indulging me. Should be so embarrassed that I told that story😮.
