In my opinion you probably would of get way more views if the 307 is mentioned in the title. You can still add it after what's there. Something like "And the 307 gets some major upgrades" or something to that effect that makes mention of the 307. The dislikers will watch so they can bash what you did until they see the next video on the difference what you did made.😎👍

Love it. I bought my first car when I was 14. It was a 1969 four door Chevelle. It had a 307 with a 2 bbl and a powerglide. It had rusted out exhaust, so it was loud and I loved it. I like that you are building up the motor and comparing 1/4 mile times. Super interesting.

I understand exactly where your coming from! lol. When the car still had the 2 barrel and open headers it still sounded like the roudiest thing on the block haha. Now with that spicy cam in it its at a whole another level!! I cant wait to compare time slips and see what peoples thoughts are on a few hundred dollars in upgrades to this little undervalued engine platform.

@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 I built a couple 307s years back. They got a bad reputation because of the cam cores GM was using during that era. The cams would go flat, but just enough to lose their lift. So they quickly earned the reputation of underpowered. I've never done anything as extensive as you are doing but my experience with 307s goes like this... 305 heads (416 or 601 castings), Melling MTC 1 RV cam, Edelbrock performer intake, and Edelbrock 1405 or Holley 3310 carburetor. The two I built that way had unbelievable low end torque and excellent driveability. One was used in a 1981 Buick Regal with Th350 and the other was in a 1989 C1500 with NV3500 5 speed. No passengers ever believed they were a "junk" 307. I wish more channels would do what you are doing

However you usually cant find/start with a healthy 350 for $300 bucks! This motor leaves a lot on the table for good reliable HP that is repeatable at the track. Cant wait to see what we can squeeze out of it!

I did a mild build on a 350, used 441 heads, performer intake, summit 1103 cam, and long tube headers. Upgraded the springs and seat the valves and so forth!
Tried the stock converter and no way, she kept lunging forward so swapped for the same range you got, and there we go!

I thought you might be interested, they are selling discounted green bench seat covers, along with a choice of tan bench seat covers from a 1974 buick apollo on e t s y. They are on sale at half the price. Only a few are left. The tan seats are a little cheaper. The sale is going on for only a couple weeks. Apparently someone bought one of the green bench seat covers already. Anyway, I don't remember if I told you about it or if you'd be interested. It is just something to consider since there are only a few left. I don't know how the seller on e t s y obtained these original cloth bench cover seats. I guess you could ask if you're interested in getting them. I know they went in the front and back seats, so it would make sense to buy two of them for one car. The headrests were a dark fake leather green. They would fit in any car with a similar body style, I believe for 1974 at least. So you wouldn't need to just put it in a buick apollo. I don't remember if I told you this or not. Since I have posted about it on a few other videos. I don't think the seat covers would look well on a bucket seat obviously. I did tell you about the buick apollo front emblem as being a rare item if you find it. Anyway, that is all.

Cars, it's not really what you put into it , it's what you get out of it. Family fun and friendship and new friends and the reward of making something better, that can't be bought. 1600 bucks , so what, that's three trips with the family to Mcdonalds and a day at the beach..... If the engine pukes you may be lucky and salvage most of it for another project. I'll share a 10 dollar power booster with you, ( if it won't break the car budget for the month), pour a half a can of Sea Foam in the crankcase and the other half in the gas tank. This will clean the years of carbon buildup out of the ring lands, free the rings up to rotate on the piston and improve the ring seal for the increase cylinder pressure. Drive it a few hundred miles and change the oil or just leave in till the next scheduled oil change. I have done this on all old engines and was never disappointed with this product.

Replaced with a 600hp LS2 I built. 307s are good motors, just had a different plan for my nova….. any way you can measure your fender loovers to find the location? I need to drill holes in my 69 but not sure exactly where they go

No doubt that an LS is the way to go to make reliable HP just not in my budget right now. This little motor fits the bill just right for me and the channel. Also when it comes to bracket racing 325 hp or 1,000 hp it doesnt matter as long as its repeatable. Ill try and get you those measurements for the louvers! Thanks for watching

@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 100% agree, just getting the car out there is fun. I run the 5.90 class in the 1/8. And thanks for any info on those loovers

Actually a 305 is junk compared to a 307…..in my opinion, only upside is if you get a new enough 305 u can win a roller cam

I would agree with this. I dont think i would see the value in throwing money at the 305. The 307 platform is loaded with potential just super choked from the factory and given a bad rap.

@@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 I don't agree. I have a 84 z28 with factory l69 305. Ran 16's stock. I've added factory 059 vortec heads, a summit 1103 cam, 600 cfm carb and rpm intake. With headers and 3in single exhaust. Huge difference loves to rev to 6500 rpm has run a 13.80 at 103 with factory T5 and 3.73 gears. First 305 i've upgraded as i have thrown many away and replaced with a 350's in the past. Wanted to keep original engine this time. This is with a 2.2 60ft time on street tires btw.

The 700R4 that car came with really helps too. Your first gear multiplication ratio with a 3.73 gear is around 11.2:1 while Dan's Nova with the th350 and 3.73:1 gear only has around 9.5:1 first multiplication ratio. But yet Dan's 60 ft times are slightly better. He needs to correct the th350 so 1st gear will let it rev higher than 5k where it makes him short shift because it stops pulling. 2nd gear lets him rev it as high as the engine will rev. Once he gets that 307 and th350 dialed in he should be in the 13.50s or slightly better with his current gearing.
Your 305 would be better if it had flat top pistons instead of dished if I recall correctly that engine has. The 305 HO heads that came with your 305 with a little moderate porting and a set of flat top pistons or mill those HO heads to raise the compression a bit you should be able to get your car around the same as Dan's car. I wouldn't recommend milling much more than a minimum cleanup off of the 059 factory 305 Vortec heads though. Flat tops or mill the deck of the block would be the better option with the factory Vortec heads.
If I recall those 305 engines were around 8.5:1 with the small 58cc 305 HO head's chambers. The Vortec heads have the same size chambers. That compression ratio is slowing you down. But 13.8 is very respectable with a 305, especially with only 8.5:1 static compression.😎?

Sorry, just reread and noticed it's a t5 speed trans. Not sure what the 1st gear is in those so the math is probably a bit off. Being a manual makes it a bit more challenging off the line especially with street tires.😎👍

I should have look at this episode before my other comments !! I feel a little foolish now because most of my questions were answered !!! A couple of questions is why did you not go with a better flowing intake like a used Torker 2 that is a single plain intake !!! I just think it's a more compatible fit for air and fuel flow !! What fuel pump did you go with and do you have an MSD ignition system or something else ??? What is done to the rear for a locker and what gear ratio ??? Also you can use solid lifters on a hydraulic cam set up it will increase your top end rpm band and will not hurt anything !!! What potential that Nova has !! I love it !!!!
