Honestly the main draw of the MCU is exactly what is becoming it’s downfall at this point. ESPECIALLY with James Gunn. The big draw of Avengers(2012) was that nobody knew it’s predecessors were connected. Because each film (Captain America, Ironman, Thor, and the Hulk) had its own VERY distinct flavor and style to it. That’s why it was so revolutionary to bring it all together and a big reason it was such a hit was because everyone was surprised it actually worked and they managed to pull off the team-up.
All four of those original MCU film franchises could’ve easily been seen as their own universe and franchise apart from an interconnected story. Thor has such a different feel to it than Captain America. But that was what kept you watching BECAUSE each franchise was different and each one wasn’t made to please everybody everytime. There were hits and there were misses and GotG was probably the most stylistic and fresh franchise to come out of the MCU that could stand alone as it’s own franchise and audiences loved it!
Like it was said in the video, the MCU is now constantly looking towards the future and making sure everything feels like an interconnected story. But that’s the problem. They’re treating very new movie as just a very long episode of the worlds most popular TV show. If they focus on just making each film as good as it can be and give directors the freedom to make their movie with style they choose and give them the freedom to fail OR succeed then this rollercoaster can go a LOT longer than than it’s scheduled for right now. Because if the VAST majority of your content is mediocre and set up then most audiences will check out within this next decade. And as a huge MCU fan neither us or the greedy execs want that to happen.
End credits scenes-- that never seem to pay off-- cannot keep being the most interesting thing in the movie! I'm thankful that at least GotG 3 doesn't do that.
Only one that paid off was Thanos in the first Avengers movie. And it took 6 years to pay it off.
The perpetual storytelling in the movies is the same as the comics. Do comics also have a third act kind of problem?
The comics end all the time though? They've ended the Marvel and DC comics universe numerous times. The point is that they end them and then reset them to keep everything fresh.
I feel that the multiverse is a “get out of death free” card that is played way too often and undermines the impact of the storytelling. There are so many characters out there: must the answer always be variants and alternate timelines?
I think the multiverse saga missed a big opportunity that DC is going to take advantage of: Reboot famous series with never-before-seen stories, while your originals are still safe at home. Phase 4 should have been a Captain Carter movie with some never-before-seen story of the Captain. An ironaman movie with tom cruise with some classic story that we never saw (armor wars probably), a reboot of hulk vs wolverine with a different actor and a reboot of Thor using another younger actor. That's what makes comics magical: they're your same characters but with a different writer. Wow, they could even give us a new spiderman reboot with an older peter, with mj and having a daughter, and since the multiverse was somewhat confirmed we would have accepted it.
The problem? is that in 2020 pop culture was not ready for the multiverse. Literal marvel had to shoot into the air with a lot of projects so that even your aunt knows what the multiverse is.
I want to believe that this multiversal reboot idea is what comes after Secret wars. There are many hero stories that have already proven to be successful. I think it will be the era of "The amazing ironman: the untold story". Of course, if the superhero cinema survives the video game era.
I like how they're asking for these movies to feel like their going somewhere when Kang just showed up this year. Phase 1 had nothing to do with Thanos, then it took off at phase 2. I assume phase 4 and 5 will have a similar pattern. The fans are the ones who need patience.
I totally agree. We're looking at these movies with the knowledge of 15 of the MCU. No one talked like this 10 years ago. In retrospect that looked random too. I think Marvel is telling a much more complicated story this time. Dominos are still being set up. It's going to nuts when they fall.
“Phase one had nothing to do with Thanos”? Thanos sent the threat to the avengers in the first movie.
Dude, at least phase 1 was self contained and character driven. Right now everything is forecefully interconnected with the multiverse and no great end result in sight.
GotG 3 is great because it's self contained, and character driven. Nothing to do with multiverse, or kang, or reality.
Kang appearing just now wouldn't be a problem if they didn't announce all these projects that have nothing to push the plot forward. Need to remove filler and tighten up the movies and shows that are most important. I can't imagine anyone really asked for Ironheart or Echo or even Agatha, Harkness. Now that puts us at least half a year behind with filler.
Phase 4 disappointed me with how disconnected each of the stories felt. I have a feeling some of it was tied to pandemic production and shifting timelines, but, for example, one of the first phase 4 movies was Eternals which ended with a giant hand sticking out of the earth, yet that wasn't mentioned in anything since then.
Phase 4 fans need to realize this but they’re too busy defending the small moments they liked.
I thought we'd see the Infinity Saga, the Multiverse Saga, and then maybe the Mephisto Saga. Now, I don't know. They may just choose to end things after Secret Wars. But who knows? Only Feige knows, and sometimes I don't even think he knows.
Still love the movies for the most part, though. Quantumania and GOTG volume 3 were a lot of fun for me. Looking forward to the Marvels and the new TV shows later this year.
I was thinking the mutant saga but we’ll see
As you said, there has to be some sort of a reset and I think this is exactly where the MCU is headed, since we have the X-Men and Fantastic 4 coming to the MCU in the future I feel like maybe there will be some sort of an incursion event between the main universe and one where X-Men and F4 exist, kinda resetting everything and bringing new characters in.
I think the MCU is facing a daunting challenge right now. When you lose enormous characters like Steve Rogers and Tony Stark and T’challa, you better have some amazing stories and character development for what remains. Not sure the Multiverse was the best choice to nurture that. We have a ton of characters in the fray now, but outside of a small handful, there aren’t many that the average viewer cares enough about to fully invest in a phase. I dunno. Hope I’m wrong. If not, maybe that reset button isn’t the worst idea.
Gotta agree, there has to be some sort of pay off finale, cinematically for its current future slate of movies. After that, I believe the cbm genre will be re-adapted if Disney is willing to take bigger risks.
Definitely can get behind the thought, but they also have to write good Origen movies again for the new heroes coming through as the writing is pants at the moment. ( I haven’t seen gardiens of the galaxy yet, my hope is it’s the exception being that the characters have had good character arcs )
There's not one perfect movie in the world, as humans we can point out many negative things. But what kind of human are you.
Its an incredible film and sendoff to the Guardians, but i also liked all of Phase 4, so take that with a grain of salt
Shang Chi did this origin fantastically. Same for Ms Marvel
The most *effective* use of the multiverse is Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Overrated in my opinion. Best multiverse move is Spider Verse.
@@dsmyify okay, that one's really good too.
The primary reason why I enjoy the MCU is because I can follow characters in a never-ending continuity. A reset would most definitely turn me away from all of it.
You, either, die the hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
I'm not burnt out of super heroes just MCU because they started feeling bland. It doesn't help when you feel like you need homework like Dr.S MoM requiring you to watch Wanda vision which seemed many people didn't know about.
Same issue why I can't get into comics for both DC and Marvel because finding a start point can be annoying when a lot of them intertwine.
Secret wars needs to reset the universe
I've said a few times now that the various projects feel like homework for each other, where to fully understand Movie A, you need to watch Series Z, and so on. Fun at the beginning, but since the paradigm shift of interconnected narratives, it's very tiring and costly to keep up. A reset should not just be used as a plot device, but a way to create a looser connection and allow for more standalone entries
its pretty simple...it doesn't matter. Disney will milk this shit for all its worth and when its dead and a husk they will try to milk it some more. Comics is the forever 2nd act and the movies will be that way
Can't wait for Galatus to show up
The MCU peaked with Infinity War.
The final battle in Endgame delivers some of the most satisfying scenes in the MCU.
Aside from the topic at hand, things are eventually going to come to a full overhaul, if sequel itis for every franchise keeps going with no proper condensing. Cool with seeing everyone shine but not everyone & thing needs its own movie
In the wise words of Harry Osborne: “I have nothing left… except Spider-Man.”
If every project and character was treated with care, I’m sure folks would feel differently
I look forward to every new Marvel release, whether that’s in the cinema or on Disney+. I can’t wait to see them bring in the Young Avengers with the likes of She-Hulk, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), America Chavez and all the other newer characters we’ve been seeing. I’ve really enjoyed all the newer content on Disney+
A person liking things online without saying something toxic?! 😮
Say what you want about the mcu but they nail send offs .
As long as they commit to it yeah totally
Guardians vol 3 is pretty good but Endgame absolutely sucks I mean it’s horrible rewatch it, trust me it fails as a film, is unfunny, is painful to watch at times, boring, cheap, corny in a bad way, the 5 years thing does nothing for any of the characters and just hurts some of them like Tony, and much more; Endgame is an F Tier mcu movie try and change my mind but you’ll probably just seem pathetic, the movie F***ing sucks
@@MitchellFaceU could say the Russo’s tried on endgame but it didn’t end well
This is true
The only MCU franchises that deserve MORE THAN 3 movies are Fantastic Four/AVENGERS, Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four! These are the only MAJOR franchises of MARVEL. Every OTHER franchise comes from the four above.
Fun fact, did you know that silver surfer was in the original first issue of the infinity gauntlet, but never really appeared in infinity war and endgame.
Wait but this is what all comics are all about though what's the problem here
The weird thing with new mcu movies is they feel a bit disconnected, must mentioning the snap here and thee, but i feel the MCU has caused this in us of expecting the next cross over, or the next big set up, I am always thinking “how is this movie settin up future movies” a reset button is needed
Issue is that the MCU does not need a send off, it can stand as a loosely knitted comic book cinematic universe. I think the biggest mistake was trying to jump right into another saga first, its okay to just release solo movies for a while and then slowly build up to a bigger story. They need to look at whats worked for the comic books themselves and adapt that to the screen. Also drop the political correctness.
The studios have spoken, "Money money money money money money money money." The only way to end the MCU or to improve the overall quality of stories is to start showing up for independent movies with the same audience sizes and support small artists.
The Walking Dead was also a "Never Ending Story" until it finally ended because people left. They could have kept it going or called it early but the money ran out when the eyeballs went away. Turn your attention to new makers, new mediums, and engage in weird art.
Animators make a living wage and need us to turnout, sure. But $45 million USD annual salary Bob Iger wants a tenth yacht so bad he will enact "Operation Wolverine VS Predator" crossover powers if we put the pressure on his wallet and we need to. I am so sure we can make, "Predator VS Wolverine" a reality but we need to boycott these big budget Marvel movies for at least the next two years as a team.
If anyone is making, "Wolverine VS Predator" a reality I would like to know right away. I passed a house the other day with a sign in the window that read, "Restore The Snyder-Verse". People really need this.
I feel like the MCU is flailing towards mediocrity. During the Infinity saga, there was a clear and present build towards something and was evident even in the earliest of movies. The avengers and the Infinity stones showed us there was cohesion between these seemingly individual characters and stories. When Phase 4 started I thought they would thread the needle making each movie a stitching in a bigger tapestry.
Starting with Shang-Chi, the 10 rings felt like it was supposed to tie together into the multiverse. Then IPs like Ms. Marvel, Eternals, Loki, Dr. Strange 2, and Quantumania would follow suit revealing little by little until you could see something forming out of its many parts. But they have done so little of this that they feel like disparate shreds of story to be cobbled together in an attempt to say, "Later, it will all be connected" only for that to never come to fruition.
Which makes these stories less compelling overall; even some of the lesser movies from the first 3 phases, like Thor: The Dark World, were made better as if nothing more than a sign post leading us down the path of greater storytelling to come. But most of the installments in phase 4 and beyond have an underwhelming tone that makes me continue to ask the question "Why should I care??"
In London, an IMAX ticket is £25. I am happy to pay for that if I know that the movie is gonna deliver (like GotG3), but I hear comments about the movie being so-so (Quantumania), then I'm more likely to wait for a Disney+ release, as there's no feeling of momentum building anymore.
Imagine making 950+ million on a movie and complaining that its not a billion
The mcu tried a self contained story through werewolf by night. The fact that no one’s talking about it shows that despite it all people still want the interconnectedness of the mcu. The real issue is the secrecy between projects like how the mutiverse of madness director didn’t watch wandavision to understand how things should have been connected. Also to say lets just hit the reset button is silly especially with james gunn resetting dc with the new flash movie.
The MCU is just having the same problem that comic books had back in the late 70s early 80s. They’ve hit a continuity wall. Where are the characters are just being tortured or changed out for another legacy character that we have to re-fall in love with. I just think that the MCU should’ve probably told the story and not been so quick to grab all the money on the table. Because all good things must come to an end just like all bad things must come to an end. The MCU should try to wrap up everything in this phase and do the X-Men and fantastic four as something special and on its own. I just don’t think that they should be so interconnected anymore.
The MCU ended with End Game (with Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home and nice epilogue wrap-ups). And after what they did to Thor in Love and Thunder... screw them.
I hate that they can’t even come to one rule, on how the multiverse works.
3:23 was funny when wong said " wait, you wanted more?" 😂
Marvel should have taken a time out (not the one the pandemic caused) that would have allowed audiences to want more and build anticipation. Instead it’s for some an endless slog to the next film or show.
I just think better character development and a slower pace. There's no build up anymore and minimum guess work. Now everyone just guesses to see how characters will be introduced. The storyline has not been cultivated properly imo. The Streaming shows are mainly heroes who won't get much screen time on the big screen compared to the core heroes, so I don't mind all the shows.
I hope it never resets, I think reboots and resets are so uninteresting... the same things over and over... I much prefer to see new characters, settings, and stories!
If phase 4 was marvel's phase 1, we wouldnt be having this discussion. Issue is that people are already nostalgiac for infinity saga, ignoring the fact the saga had its fair share of below average movies.
I felt weird about the mcu around thor love and thunder and doctor strange multiverse of madness and a little at antman quantum mania ending only the ending where antman just strolling down the street not the end credit/mid credit scene. Thor love and thunder introduced eternity other gods showed the other possibilities of what could and what might happened but it left no damage only a mark of mighty thor and her death in one movie she came back just to die? Her friend has been in more movies and shows than her. Doctor strange multiverse of madness was amazing with the reveal of mr fantastic black bolt freaking xavier but just killed all of them. What was the reason of their character to show wanda capabilities?? If they dont recast john as reed richards id be pissed. For me the mcu feels a little too slow i can understand if they needed it slow after endgame but it was a hype to know what will happen next no way home was nice and great but did he really have to be forgotten like what will spiderman do now just fight crime will he be like spiderman from spiderverse where he lose his touch or just delivers pizza like who will he connect they already introduced mj ned gwen flash the only person they havent introduced is harry osborn. I dont want depressing spiderman. i want quippy spiderman i was almost fine with spiderman identity revealed almost loved it. Blank panther wakanda forever was good very beautiful. good way to handle the death of an actor on screen never really said how but still good. I think for me what i want is just everybody to meet each other kamila khan to meet like hawkeye or spiderman thor to meet hulk son. I want everybody to be connected. I also want fantastic four we still dont know who owns the building that was avengers tower. We are opening the mcu to the multiverse when we still haven't introduced the next avengers the secret wars i felt like should be the big thing with the 4th avengers
Great video, great writing!
not every movie needs to move the overarching narrative forward. Many movies in Phases 1-3 absolutely did not touch anything having to do with Thanos and the stones. And that was alright. Just as it is now. Let standalone stories exist on their merit
Make a Marvel movie that is as good as Andor was for Star Wars, it's own story, not for everyone, something with real biting plot twists, unlikeable characters, characters that you have to decide yourself, are they villians or are they heros? Make a Rouge One for Marvel. Make a Nolan level Batman film even if it is alternate universe or doesn't touch anything outside itself.
Disney is milking these IPs to death, and I don't think they can do it forever. They're also wasting legal money in that shithole that is called Florida. Combining Disney+ and Hulu isn't really going to make a difference. There's definitely super hero fatigue, so I don't know what you're talking about, and movie theaters will never return to their former glory. They're going to need new stars, but so far, they are all underwhelming.
I see a reset after secret wars with X-men and FF4 coming in. If not that, then a reset after a DC and Marvel crossover around 2030-2033
Endgame should have been it's finale, after that it's never captured the hype or quality since. Now it spits on everything and has ruined most of it's characters and forced new unwanted ones in, and it's not a form of escapism anymore it's got our world problems shoved in the universe now, LGBT, BLM, feminism, and stupid stuff like in Hawkeye show where they use nerds to help with the final mission and the enemies are a bunch of middle aged spastics in pj's led by a disabled deaf girl. Plus this new generation of young avengers is just BS
Not until it starts seriously losing money which is eventual. Especially if the quality doesn’t get back to its original point soon. The only film I have any interest in is Guardians 3 cause it’s literally the end of the story for that team and probably every single character.
Error. Between 2017 and 2021, Marvel had $1b+ films in 2018, 2019 & 2021. That through 2 Abengers films, 2 Spider-Man films and the Infinity War and diveraity enhanced Black Panther & Caotain Marvel. It was NEVER the "norm" for their films to makebiver $1b and films lle Dr. Strange were missing the "standard" $100m> from China.
do not want young avengers.
This assessment was bang on for me in ever aspect!
Kevin confirmed that the mcu will go on for 80 years
Yeah, they'll be just fine. We all want to see what's next. I know I do. I can't wait. ❤ #MarvelGetsIt
TBH Vol. 3 of GotG was the weakest of the 3...
I totally agree with you, Vol 3 was overrated and they should have stopped after vol 2
I think it's more that just Psylocke's backstory that has her causing nose bleeds 😉
They need to reboot with Fantastic Four leading the pack, to start the new universe (not that one) off right.
M.o.M. was the only MCU project I despised. Eternals was meh. But ive loved everything else. And if Phase 7 is a reboot. Yay. Or not? A yay.
Video game movies and tv shows will be the next mcu.
Like the Neverending story and the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. plus both have dragon!!
So you’re saying that the MCU must die and rise again much like a … Phoenix Saga?! 😆
Weird video to post after how well like GOG3 is
I feel like people are getting tired of the MCU. They need to bring something new to the table.
MCU is in its Halo 4,5 and 6 era.
The Mandalorian is starting to do this :-/
I cannot even get past 5 minutes of this. I just have one question to ask you guys... Have you ever heard of this thing call Marvel comics?
Wow, you've almost come out and stated the obvious.
The Multiverse is Act 5... I stopped watching at Act 3, which was Endgame.
I have seen a MCU movie since End Game.
Endgame was the true ending for the MCU.
MCU X-Men is going to be a mess.
This channel would be nothing without the MCU
Nah! I'm not fatigued cuz...
The MCU is in Is dyer need of the X-men. That's all. That’s it.
Nothing else will matter until the X-men and Dr Doom finally show up.
Absolutely thay do and as long as Disney have control over here Marvel universe it will just keep falling and Warner Brothers and dc will capitalise on this
I'm exhausted tbh
Yeah, they figured they could milk it for all its worth and got it badly wrong. The audience is bored. Too slow moving and most of the movies and Tv series have been pointless. She hulk was horrible for example, no need for it and it didn't add anything. It just felt like filler material. Antman was a disaster because the story was so bad, with an incredible amount of plot holes and nonsense that didn't make sense or wasn't needed. Dr Strange tried to be ambitious but ended up being pointless. Thor was just lame and badly written, with an enemy that just changed his mind after causing so much misery and destruction. I was like, WTF? It was that easy...?
So, quality really does matter and not cynically screwing the public because you think they will buy whatever it is you are selling, are 2 things that need to change.
They’re fomenting pockets of more storylines… oops sorry, wrong franchise 😅
No and why should it?
agreed, mcu is all about quantity than quality now
not as long as it's profitable
Disney is running out of great ideas or even good ones... so no.
Totally agree with Dan. I was thinking along those same lines while watching GOTG 3, and felt very little at the conclusion of film. Because there really wasn't any attempt to change or maybe just slightly change things. One of the characters in GOTG 3 should've been a "noble sacrifice" imo--not having anyone them die felt (believe it or not) a bit...disappointing. I sort feel the same way of the recent MCU films and streaming shows. As Dan states: it feel as though were running in place with true conclusion in sight. Disney corporate are going to have to learn to let things "move on" sort to speak--possibly even looking at a way to put a full stop to the current group of characters. That might be what they're planning for Secret Wars, but I guess we'll all know in a few years.
Mcu will be rebooted with secret wars these fanboys need to chill and just be patient thats part of the problem
So... You are saying the movies and too much like the comics? Sounds like bullshit.
The comic stories never end. AND WE LIKE IT LIKE THAT.
Waaa too many awesome stories..waaaaaaaaaa 😭
Trust me, these days the MCU has a much bigger problem than third acts: an ever-growing indifference or even antipathy for it since Phase 4 started. I can’t imagine ‘The Marvels’ is going to be anything but an utter stinkbomb at the box office, for example. That wouldn’t have been possible five years ago.
EDIT: and the new Blade seems more cursed than the Darkhold. Maybe the Earth-1218 universe is telling Marvel to cut their losses with that one now.
No phase 4 movie was good
I feel like we are really only in the second act. The infinity saga was act 1, the multiverse saga is act 2, and the galatus saga will be the true act 3
I'm just going to say this before starting, but if it's your intention to bash, belittle or otherwise TRASH talk the GOTG3 3rd act for the sake of content. Hold this unsub !!!!
ur usub doesnt matter 😂
Maybe I'm an old man, but I just can't get excited for an entire MCU of teens and twenty-somethings (young avengers 🤮)
Hard agree
SPOILERS!
Why do i love spoilers? And wtf happened to Musk-Watch? Our Planet needs that now more than ever.
WHAT THEY EXPECT WITH ALL THE GOOD WRITERS ON STRIKE THE MCU WILL HAVE TO DO A RESTART EVENTUALLY IT IS INEVITABLE 😐
Now everybody hates the MCU.🙄🙄
thankful i haven't seen any of these movies
The ending for Captain America (Steve) is the most disappointing thing I’ve ever seen. It was so antithetical to his whole arc.
