I made a top in Mona Lisa and it’s so thick and heavy which isn’t comfortable in the summer. I will probably end up unravelling it all and using the yarn for something else. The Hobbii rainbow cotton is my favourite as it’s so soft. Their rainbow bamboo is my all time best yarn as it feels like such a premium yarn and works up beautifully.
I order exclusively from ICE Yarns and absolutely love Saver for all my blanket projects, I have Picasso in my stash but haven't used it yet. I make all size blankets for the senior homes and local hospitals. I am also a lover of Softly Baby a 3 wt. yarn and Favorite a 4 wt. and so many more. Thanks for your thorough review and I can't wait to see more from you.
So great to see these worked up. Few do that after unboxing and it’s nice to know what they look and feel like. I also loved your cotton comparison. I’m a great fan of Hobbii rainbow 8/4 cotton. I’ve never worked with cotton that’s so soft. Glad to know the Ice Yarn is comparable.
Glad you enjoyed! I haven't tried rainbow 8/4, just the 8/8 because I'm too impatient for thin yarns, but I will keep it in mind if I ever decide to be brave ;)
I have just started crocheting a cardigan with lion brand 4 weight Pima cotton, it’s a beautiful cotton to crochet with no splitting, very soft and quite a few colours to choose from.
Glad you enjoyed Deborah! Saver is OK, but I notice some colors are softer than others. It does feel good as a finished project, like a blanket but I wouldn't say it is super soft. Perhaps an 8 out of 10?
@@aurorayarns5974 thank you for responding, what yarn would you say was the softest from ice yarns? I’m expecting a new grandson in September and really want to make matching set including blanket for him. Thank you again.... so happy I found you as I started crochet the same time as you.
Glad to have you here Deborah and congrats on the coming baby! Saver has some colors that are quite soft and it does crochet nicely, so definitely a solid choice. People seem to love Softly baby, I have just one package and it is nice but not extremely soft or much softer than Saver IMO, at least the one color I have... Elite baby is lovely, but has very few colors and can split. Hope that helps!
Love Saver. Sometimes the dyes in certain colours make it a little less soft, but overall, it is a good budget friendly yarn. Knits up really well, for those who knit as well.
Very helpful,I have ordered from ice, I have picasso but found it too light and airy so now I am using it with a dk acrylic making a poncho & it's looking fab, binge watching your videos 😁X
You should try Rockabilly! I absolutely love that yarn!!! Saver is a great go to for blankets. Tube Cotton Worsted may be what you’re looking for in a cotton yarn. Great video😊
I'm making a project with Saver now. I was a little hesitant because I was afraid it wouldn't be soft. Acrylic is always a gamble with what you end up with. I was pleasantly surprised and really love working it! One of the easiest yarns to work with for sure :) I really enjoy your perspective as 4-7mm hooks are also my comfort range. Als the secret yarnery loves all yarn so a more subtle review is nice too :)
I feel the same about saver. I was expecting it to be amazing to the touch, like chunky monkey and its not. But once I started crocheting, a dream. So easy to work with, if only they had chunky monkeys color range... Glad you enjoyed 😃
@@aurorayarns5974 I haven't heard of Chunky Monkey. I should look into them. I quite like the Saver colour range. I'm thinking of maybe investing in some different Saver colours for amigurumi or maybe the new classic DK cause it looks so good. But first I'll have to try it out. Sampling packs really are the future!
Scheepjes, the brand that makes chunky monkey offers these folders or cards that have samples of their colors. Seems like they are not so easy to find but I did manage to get one for chunky monkey and another range. They also offer color pack for their stone and river wash, such a brilliant idea, all brands should do that!
Hi🙋♀️New subscriber to your channel Just discovered your super cheery and colourful podcasts🌈Thank you for crocheting swatches of your Ice Yarns and sharing your experience and thoughts about them Very useful information Yarny love from Australia💜🐨
Thank you so much! I enjoyed a lot of unboxing videos (also getting hooked by Christa ;o)) ), but they hardly ever say anything about the feel and - more importantly - the way it behaves when being in use. This is exactly what I looked for and of course I subscribed at once. I'd love to see more reviews. By the way: I feel very much the same about 4 weight cotton. My solution is 2 weight, but I am more a knitter than a crocheter, so an easy pattern in the round works for me even with fine yarn.
Welcome Katharina! I know what you mean, I also found a lot of unboxing and not too many actual testing. I just filmed today another try out, hopefully will be up very soon!
Just started watching this video, it’s actually very hard to find decent yarn. On our Amazon there is literally almost nothing. In the previous video you have shown some really beautiful yarn, one brand doesn’t sell online unfortunately but the other [I forgot the names] I found an online shop here in UK. Curious about these yarns here, just from seeing them they seem a little heavy, lets see what your verdict is! :) 👍🏼
I'm surprised to hear as there are so many great yarn shops in the UK🤔 yeah Amazon is not the place for yarn, although I did find some but nothing too tempting or exciting 🤷♀️
I love detailed yarn reviews. What made you decide to switch to crochet after your break from knitting? I'm a knitter who is trying to learn crochet. I can tell you use to knit when you called the hook a needle. 😉 I love cotton blend yarns. Joann's here in the states has a acrylic cotton blend that I really love. No splitting issues. I'm curious if ICE cotton blend yarn calling Denim is similar. I love the look of it.
I knitted for like a couple of years when my daughter was born, she's 12 now... So for a decade I didn't knit or crochet. Then in 2020 I really needed a destressing hobby I could do also in the afternoons when my kids are home. I dabbled briefly in punch needle and loom weaving, both lovely but not as simple to carry around and do as crochet. Soon after I was hooked 😃 I think if you're an experienced knitter it can be as relaxing as crochet but for beginners and adventurous beginners crochet is soo much easier to get the hang of and really demands a lot less attention, my opinion of course 😁😉
Thank you for doing this review! Very helpful and oh no, I went shopping too... 4 times... How the secret yarnery does it I do not know! I mean, it looks like she uses up most of the yarn on her shelves by the time she does the next haul - but how?? By the way, apparently we are “yarnees”. Also, Adinda’s book arrived and is not what I thought it would be. The book has wonderful photography and is just beautiful (and smells amazing!) but only has one pattern in it - the shawl - and it’s pretty superficial. So you would still end up having to buy the pattern for the pillow, etc, separately.
Glad you enjoyed! I think Christa from the secret yarnery crochets all the time... Which let's be real, is what I currently want to do... About the book, really?? That is disappointing. I'm sorry to hear. I just filmed a review of a similar style of book, that one has lots of patterns... Thank you for letting me know!
I started crocheting 2 years ago, and I’m totally addicted. I also color, lol. I’m very interested in Ice Yarns. They seem to be very economical, but I was hesitant. I’ve used several from Hobbii. I love their Twisters and Sulton cotton cakes. I’m not a fan of 100% Cotton. I prefer 50/50 blends of acrylic and cotton.
Thanks for sharing Amy! I've kinda fallen out of love with ice yarns... Maybe I'll come back one day 😉 they have some great yarns for sure and if one wants to buy in bulk it's a good place for that 😀
@@aurorayarns5974 yes they are bouth include costums. Im thinking why i can get the yarn after to days with Express , but up to 5 weeks with the other shipping ??
Hey neighbour, just stumbled over your videos and wanted to say that you should totally check out drops yarns if you want cotton, Ice Yarns is amazing, no question asked, but whenever I go for anything cotton I go for drops. I always order from Algawo, but they are German based, there might be some Austrian based yarn shops that have it too. Love that you made swatches, that is always great! I actually prefer softly Baby over Saver.
Love the fact that you only use synthetic yarn I think that is brilliant. I’m also an only synthetic yarn user I’m allergic to any animal hair But even if I wasn’t I wouldn’t use it as it’s not appealing to me. Great 👍 channel
I can tell you 90% of synthetics are indeed non recyclable and aren't biodegradable. Not to mention the pollution that occurs in the production which is far more cruel to all living things than shearing wool from an alpaca, sheep, yak etc. Wool sheep are expensive and raised precisely for their prized wool. So are alpaca etc. These animals are raised ethically and not on industrial meat farms as sickly mistreared animals do not produce good wool. It is necessary to sheer them as not sheering them is detrimental to their health (overgrowth, matting etc) I do hope you will look into how most synthetic fibers are produced...and cotton is a whole conversation on its own (such as the run off from pesticides etc) realistically I'd very much like for you to visit a wool farm to put your mind at ease. ❤ Much love.
I love crocheting. I have been crocheting since December 2021
Thank you for crocheting swatches from the Ice yarn! It makes a big difference to see them worked up.
Glad it was helpful 😃❤️
I LOVE Ice yarns, some of the colors are stunning like Picasso 😊
