I watched over a decade of my hard work and innovations being shipped off to China through a joint venture Pratt engaged in with China in the early-mid 90's. I refused to go to China to teach them advanced electrical discharge machining (multi axis die sinking), creep feed cnc grinding etc. I quit in 2001 after 13 years. FU globalists!!!

Do you know that most of Asia puts tariffs or barriers on imports? This incentivizes foreign investment in production as well. In Taiwan, they make their own cars in joint-venture with other companies. Reagan put quotas on car imports and started free trade zones in USA. I don't want our greedy, manipulative companies to get protection from competition. That would be a disaster.

China once admitted into the WTO was able to dump cheap products into markets which in turn shut down manufacturing plants who couldn’t compete. You are right. Most of the stuff was made here and it was of excellent quality. It all trickles down. When you start manufacturing here, the whole industry cycle triples down and salaries go up on their own.

That’s the thing. Literally all of trade with China (turnover) is ~3.7% of the us gdp per public numbers. Despite that things coming from China are even blatantly killing massively more on a percent basis. We could literally cut off all trade to China and it wouldn’t actually be that big of an issue mid to long term from a traditional economic sense. However it would mean that humanity collectively would develop slower which seems dumb. It would be good if they just finally stopped all the unprovoked hostility. We literally just send them money and sit around idly while they steal all our IP. That isn’t exactly being an aggressor. The real problem is the logistical issues and more broadly the fact that our quality of living is considered to be 3rd world, much worse than many nations in Asia. For example Singaporeans have objectively massively higher quality of living on average. There really isn’t much reason especially financially that the us couldn’t do that. I mean Singapore literally routinely outranks most of the world including the us as a place to do business. Hello?! We also pay too much for a lot of nonsense from China and purchasers have limited recourse even on a consumer level.
