I also got to see him perform from 5 feet in front of me and his technique is incredible and so is his speed and precision. And yes I remember him talking about his high spring tension.

Hey Marthyn! Love your videos man! Just wanted to clarify something. Kollias came to Bangalore, India, last year and performed at a clinic in which he addressed his technique and playing style. From what I remember, he mentioned that the swivel 'technique' was not so much a technique as it was something his legs happened to do when he played at those speeds, and was given way too much hype. He did say that it helps if the spring tension is high because it helps with the rebound, which you can use to your advantage. He seemed to want to distance himself from the whole 'Swivel Technique'. At least that's how it came across.
Anyway. Really dig your videos dude. Really hope you can check out and review drummers like Alex Rudinger, Anup Sastry, Chris Adler, Flo Mounier, and John Longstreth.
    Cheers from India!

@@jurgentrockenbau9321 it depends, Krimh has been using it for so long and he never had any problems, even with such a big motion. But in his case it's controlled.

Cool! I learn a lot from these videos. Please do Lille Gruber from defeated sanity. He is the most interesting metal drummer in my opinion.

Honestly I would love to see Marthyn react to Sami Kuoppamäki. There are a couple of live solos of his on UA-cam, "Sami Kuoppamäki Drumsolo" and "Kingston Wall Drum Solo PROSHOT!!! Tampere YO-talo 1993". Sami seems to be just so uber-good.

Would love to see a Raymond Herrera analysis. He was the reason I started drumming 20 years ago. I still can't do double bass for shit though.

I've seen some extreme metal drummers using heavy boots when playing. Does the extra weight help with stability and/or power when playing this fast?

You should make a video on a reaction of Alex Bent's (drummer of Trivium) recent drum playthrough for Thrown into the Fire

Great work as always Marthyn! Your professionalism and work ethic inspires me to be my best in front of the kit daily! Can you maybe do a reaction video to Scott Phillips, Dirk Verbeuren and Martin “Kiddie” Kearns in no particular order?!
