I heard you mentioned the steering down the road issue. Do you think that problem is coming from the stock steering column & shaft? I know you probably know they make upgraded ones & they say in the description of the product that it's a must do if your running oversized tires at all. Let me know your thoughts, thanks bro. 👍
Another great upload Josh. I'd budget build the grey one for channel content, then sell it. The profits can go towards "fixing" up the OG LBZ. Have fun with the build.
I started watching your videos on OL'Red nearly 10 years ago before I bought our first LBZ Duramax. I wouldn't rush into rebuilding OL'Red until you have a good plan, enough time & Money to do it Justice! You've done some great builds over the years, but It deserves to be the" BEST BUILD" you've ever done! Ok, I have to say it! "Make" OL'Red" Great Again" P.S. when you repaint it make sure it's name "OL'Red" is somewhere on the body of the truck & on the interior seats etc..!
Build the grey truck and keep old red till you have the time and money to do her right. Like you said, she started the channel, and she deserves proper restoration.
Build the grey truck. Do it to show how you can get into a good diesel truck for cheap. Out here in the West it’s insane what people think they can ask for trucks. Nearly 230K miles or more and they still want over $30K all three brands. So for the younger crowd wishing to get into a solid work horse this could be a perfect change of step by step budget build, all while learning the secrets to work on them too.
Truckmaster, please keep your four-door red Cateye . I’ve been watching you since it was a black four-door and I’m gonna be completely honest master to master lol that’s basically your mascot
Put the motor, trans and transfer case from red into the rust free chassis. Didnt Mark do the trans and transfer case already? You know what you have with that. Put the used LBZ and supposedly built trans into red and send it down the road.
Put a motor and trans in the rust free gray/silver truck. Get it up and running, would be a shame to use it as a parts truck. Continue researching and looking for parts for red.
Whistling diesel definitely still has his first truck that he started his UA-cam channel with the monster max that was OG Duramax. Greg A. Still has the first Dodge that he started with 08 currently makes 3500 hp.
Build the grey truck to the point where it is great but not flashy like someone who really needs one but has limited cash would do. Then let us know what it cost.
Honestly Josh the sky is the limit but an idea to toss around that may be quite lucrative is to build up the grey truck and raffle it off. Use the profits to rebuild Ole Red!
Get the grey truck up and running, sell it and use the profit and dump it into ole red. Fic the cab maybe repla e the bed, but definitely keep her original bones n body. She deserves all the attention, after all your channel is because of that truck.
First off Josh playing with fire getting that new truck off the trailer, I was like please God no.....lol I honestly would keep Ole' Red as is & keep that as a daily driver & rebuild the new to you truck in all honesty. Rebuilding Ole'Red will take much longer not to mention money as well, when you do rebuild Ole'Red you want to do it right & be able to take your time & also have the finances for it as well.
Josh for unloading trucks off trailers by myself I made trailer hitch receiver out of tube steel to go over my hilo forks that holds a 2" ball and a tongue off a trailer that goes in the hitch helps a lot moving trucks around also just not as much fun watching a run away truck
Excited to watch this build after getting a lbz duramax myself. I have always enjoyed watching your videos and love how you do the step by step videos. Keep doing what you love
I just got a 06 lbz all black with black leather interior fully loaded with 364,000 miles with nothing wrong with it no egr and straight 5 no issues at all.
There is something special about having the original truck still. I would say, rebuild the silver truck and not go to crazy. Then either sell it for profit or use it as a giveaway truck. Then go into restoring Ole Red. You need to check out browns of two rivers. They make every panel you can think of to retore the cab on Ole Red. They are also amazing quality!
Do not sell Ole Red. That could be a hand me down for your son or daughters one day. If anything rebuild it with them and teach em all you know as you rebuild it and allow them to help with the creative image as they grow and help. Make it a family rebuild! You've put the time in, you've held on to er this long might as well keep it in the family. In the great words of Hank Williams Jr - "Its a family tradition."
Build the grey truck on a budget and build the Red truck over time. Maybe keep the grey truck to hold the Red trucks place while it is being built. One of my favorite channels!
Build the grey truck. Use what makes sense from the red truck. You already went through an endless rusty scrap heap with the Sunkist. Keep it simple, doable.
I'd say just get the new truck running, since you have everything to do it. Maybe take the lift kit off and just level it so you could pull your gooseneck with it.
Rebuild the LBZ! Brother I really enjoy watching the total rebuild. I learn so much watching you work on a truck . I have an 05 Duramax crew cab no rust 6 foot bed. The money is working on something that’s what a lot of people want to see. I watch professor mark rebuild that Allison transmission at at 5 (more) because it is awesome watching someone who knows what they’re doing! Especially mechanical. Sorry about the rant!
Just my opinion, you either make decisions with your head or your heart. One is practical, the other is expensive. Separate your emotions from your passion. None of us will think less of you for making sensible decisions and you're not going to lose subscribers if you build one and sell the other. If you go broke, the channel stops, don't go broke. I will say that if you replace the frame, cab, and bed, your OG truck is not the same OG truck.
I would do the grey one, that is really sweet. I'm an older guy, 72 actually. I've had many, many GM trucks, a lot of them new. In 2003 I bought a mutt that someone had ordered and didn't take. I just needed a truck, this was a 1/2 T, with the small LS (270-something?) w/ Z71, 3.73 locking front and rear, extended cab. I love that generation cab, IMHO the best one so far! (I have a 2012 3500 now). That small V8 and 3.73's got me 22 mpg every day!! The whole life of the truck! I just did 5000 LOF with Mobile_1, and changed everything else every 20k. I wish I could buy a new one with that cab though!! I'm new here, sorry to run on 8( Can't wait to see this build!! Thanks!! Peace --gary
Get the gray truck running. After that, do a DURABURB!!! It's something you haven't done and would be awesome for the family man that likes to haul the family as well as a camper.
I’d leave big red the way she is. She’s the staple to this channel. I remember watching the videos of you building it. Yea I’m sure it could use some TLC but in my opinion it will be a better series building the grey truck. Don’t have to get crazy like you did with Sunkist but get it looking good. Always better to have more trucks in my opinion.
Sell the red one to someone who wants a big project and put all the focus on the new one. Rust free and will last much longer with less effort and money.
Went through my LB7 2 years ago, wire brushed entire frame, treated surface rust, with RustKutter, and coated my frame, rear axle, leaf springs, etc. With black cosmoline. Its a petroleum wax, that dries, to a flat black. It looks painted, but it won't rust from underneath, and flake off like paint. Then surface shield, inside body panels. It hauls my Sleds over mountain passes, and I caught it, before it got bad.
I think you keep the red truck the way it is and just put a motor/transmission in the silver truck. For the red truck being in salt its whole life it still looks amazing.
Just build the new grey truck! I love ole red the way it is! Not all trucks need to be show trucks, it’s nice when they have earned their stripes and have a few bumps and bruises! Great vid as always. God bless brotha
I have regretted every day getting rid of my first truck. I have built a few and they never quite filled that void. Keep it and rebuild it. It doesn’t need to be done in 3 months. Trust me, you’ll regret it.
Build the gray truck, focus on good reliable emission friendly or compliant performance considering the times this might help more across the States. Ol-Red is what it is... Thanks for channel, it's been interesting, fun and informative.
I would build what you have and not touch the red truck for now,,,build it as nice as you can for as little money I would probably build the motor a little bit since you got a built trans then sell it for as much money as you can and roll that cash into a better/bigger build just go into this build knowing you're going to sell it to make a profit for the next build, but that's just my two cents on what I would do if I had a UA-cam channel on rebuilding trucks that gives you at least 8 months of content to build two trucks if not longer
you have to rebuild ol red. it is what started the channel and it's still around after all that you put it through for the channel. maybe do some projects and sell them to fund building ol red.
Next time you can partially engage the park break to help keep it from running away off the trailer. As far rebuilding, it seems you've rebuilt a lot worst rusted trucks build the silver truck and rebuild ol red as times allows
You know I keep getting told to keep my 06 short bed duramax and it's red. It's all factory nothing been turned up or cut up and pretty clean. I do love it. Idk
Rebuild old red! Unless you really need to flip a truck for some $ right now. Then do Red next, but just me, I'm keeping my LB7, no matter what else I gotta do to build it.

Know anyone looking for an 05 lly to buy i have one. Rest free in texas
Build the gray truck, then over time restore Ol' Red
Agreed 👍🏻
Agreed
I agree with that
Agreed
I agree

P.S. when you repaint it make sure it's name "OL'Red" is somewhere on the body of the truck & on the interior seats etc..!
I like the idea thanks for the suggestion
Get the gray truck running as it is. See what it develops in to. Don’t use it as a donor. Do some fab repair on the red truck yourself and keep it.
Build the grey truck and keep old red till you have the time and money to do her right. Like you said, she started the channel, and she deserves proper restoration.
Build grey truck restore ole red later on
Build the gray truck but use the red truck as the donor truck, put all the goodies on the gray truck!🎉
Can never happen, ole red is a staple and has a story.
Keep the iconic red one as is. Do another rebuild but for the average Joe!!!
Quick build on the new truck and keep old red as the full restoration or slow build that the truck that got the ball rolling
Truckmaster, please keep your four-door red Cateye . I’ve been watching you since it was a black four-door and I’m gonna be completely honest master to master lol that’s basically your mascot
Restore the gray truck that is the best choice, in my opinion. God bless you, and go vote today if you haven't already!
Thanks!
Put the motor, trans and transfer case from red into the rust free chassis. Didnt Mark do the trans and transfer case already? You know what you have with that. Put the used LBZ and supposedly built trans into red and send it down the road.
Benefits of dealing with the arizona heat, I've never had to worry about my trucks rusting out
I think build the new truck seperate. Eventually rebuild the red truck too but I think a new build would be sweet
Keep Red, and still get the new build. Who cares if you’re the only UA-camr who still has his OG truck…narrow road brother, always.
Put a motor and trans in the rust free gray/silver truck. Get it up and running, would be a shame to use it as a parts truck. Continue researching and looking for parts for red.
That grey truck looks pretty nice. I'd probably repair the grey truck and sell it. Use the profit to restore Red❤️.
Build the grey truck!! It’ll look sweet sitting next to ol red
Build both silver one first then slowly work on old red
Keep it, and restore it! Miss seeing that truck on the channel, I remember when it was black and you were working out of your old garage!
Build the gray truck and restore the body on your red one
Whistling diesel definitely still has his first truck that he started his UA-cam channel with the monster max that was OG Duramax. Greg A. Still has the first Dodge that he started with 08 currently makes 3500 hp.
I started my journey with diesel back in 2004 and I'm not a duramax dude but I love this channel
Much appreciated
Build the grey truck to the point where it is great but not flashy like someone who really needs one but has limited cash would do. Then let us know what it cost.
Honestly Josh the sky is the limit but an idea to toss around that may be quite lucrative is to build up the grey truck and raffle it off. Use the profits to rebuild Ole Red!
You honestly have to give Ol’ Red the proper rebuild. It would be totally worth it and do it all right
Get the grey truck up and running, sell it and use the profit and dump it into ole red.
I’d gohead proceed with putting the silver one back together and keep your eyes open for another lbz parts donar
Get the gray truck up and running, and build old red, she’s earned it.
Just bought a 2007 silverado classic crew cab short bed lbz a couple months ago. I ove that truck!!!!!
Josh for unloading trucks off trailers by myself I made trailer hitch receiver out of tube steel to go over my hilo forks that holds a 2" ball and a tongue off a trailer that goes in the hitch helps a lot moving trucks around also just not as much fun watching a run away truck
Frame off Gray truck restore. True budget restore. Budget panel respray/cut and polish. Interior refresh. Sell at the end, give profit analysis.
Build the roller, and when time and money isn't the issue give ol'Red the make over it deserves!
I've said this before, and i'll say it again the sound of a turbo spooling up will never get old
Crazy to see the truck I brought home from Tennessee end up in Michigan. I delivered the truck to Noah sweet to see it rebuilt
Thanks for the video Josh
I have the 2008 LMM
Just get the LBZ running, it will last for ever
You live in the Rust Belt keep old red on the road rebuild what you need to as you need to Gotta have a truck for winter
Me personally I’d fix the the new truck you showed in this video. 2 diesel trucks is better than 1. The red truck isn’t even in that bad of condition.
Build a square body LBZ 👌🏻🔥
Leave the red truck as is as and keep the new one to do the what you’ve always wanted
Build the grey truck on a budget and build the Red truck over time. Maybe keep the grey truck to hold the Red trucks place while it is being built. One of my favorite channels!
Build this, and keep the original one the way it is.
Build the silver truck, then sell it for funds to eventually rebuild red
Build the grey truck. Use what makes sense from the red truck. You already went through an endless rusty scrap heap with the Sunkist. Keep it simple, doable.

Have fun build the gray one
You gotta rebuild the OG, remember without that truck you wouldn't have or be what you are. She deserves it

I will say that if you replace the frame, cab, and bed, your OG truck is not the same OG truck.
If you got the drive line it makes a TON of sense to do a engine trans swap. Same money for the little things 😊😊 use the gray one an paint it ted😊😊
I would do the grey one, that is really sweet. I'm an older guy, 72 actually. I've had many, many GM trucks, a lot of them new. In 2003 I bought a mutt that someone had ordered and didn't take. Get the gray truck running. After that, do a DURABURB!!! It's something you haven't done and would be awesome for the family man that likes to haul the family as well as a camper.
Rebuild the new truck and keep the old truck as a work truck for now also start rust proofing these amazing trucks with cavity wax
Keep the lbz that started the channel
Grey build, just use the red truck as a showroom as it’s your first Cateye truck in the channel
I think build the new lbz and the red keep it how it is. lot of trucks lol
That pickup deserves a restore!! It's what put you on the map
Build the grey truck. Get a different donor for the red truck 😂
EARL!!!!Just build the gray truck dude
Sell the red one to someone who wants a big project and put all the focus on the new one. Rust free and will last much longer with less effort and money.
Redo the roller but if you paint it we get to vote on the color!!!
Went through my LB7 2 years ago, wire brushed entire frame, treated surface rust, with RustKutter, and coated my frame, rear axle, leaf springs, etc. With black cosmoline. I would love to see a quick flip and show what it takes and what you can make if you just put in the work.
Just build the new grey truck! I love ole red the way it is! Not all trucks need to be show trucks, it’s nice when they have earned their stripes and have a few bumps and bruises! Great vid as always. God bless brotha
Put the drive training the sliver truck and scrap the red rust bucket
I have regretted every day getting rid of my first truck. I have built a few and they never quite filled that void. Keep it and rebuild it. It doesn’t need to be done in 3 months. Trust me, you’ll regret it.
Transplant all the goodies from OG Red to the gray mare and then paint it Red. Give OG Red a fond farewell and build anew.
If you ever decide to part ways with the OG lbz I’m in need of clean red panels! Fenders, box, hood, mirrors I could buy it all
Dang, I was waiting on that shoutout... can't wait to see how it turns out!!
Recently purchased a 06 gmc Lbz lt2 ccsb. Its a keeper
That grey minty lbz deserves a motor and trans and get her lookin snazzy. Id look for a different donor truck for ole red
rebuild the grey truck and flip it to fund ol red.
🔥🔥🔥🙌🏼Definitely build the grey truck it’s a charm 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Your best bet is to come to the south plenty of 06 and 07 shells
Build the gray truck, focus on good reliable emission friendly or compliant performance considering the times this might help more across the States. Ol-Red is what it is... Thanks for channel, it's been interesting, fun and informative.
You build it , they will come 🎉
Keep driving the red one and just get the new one sitting level and running/driving.
Use the seat shop to get new leather and foam for the seats
I would build what you have and not touch the red truck for now,,,build it as nice as you can for as little money I would probably build the motor a little bit since you got a built trans then sell it for as much money as you can and roll that cash into a better/bigger build just go into this build knowing you're going to sell it to make a profit for the next build, but that's just my two cents on what I would do if I had a UA-cam channel on rebuilding trucks that gives you at least 8 months of content to build two trucks if not longer
Hi josh keep ol red i really enjoy the ol red videos your the reason why i bought my red 05 Duramax
Throw the motor, trans and Tcase into the grey truck and clean it up, see how it turns out.
you have to rebuild ol red. it is what started the channel and it's still around after all that you put it through for the channel. maybe do some projects and sell them to fund building ol red.
Next time you can partially engage the park break to help keep it from running away off the trailer. As far rebuilding, it seems you've rebuilt a lot worst rusted trucks build the silver truck and rebuild ol red as times allows
The grey truck. The red truck will be to much as it’s a long time goal that may not be completed!
Build the new one 🤘🏼
You know I keep getting told to keep my 06 short bed duramax and it's red. It's all factory nothing been turned up or cut up and pretty clean. I do love it. Idk
Gray truck for sure
So excited for you Josh! Don't get rid of Sunkist. If you do I'm first in line.
Rebuild old red! Unless you really need to flip a truck for some $ right now. Then do Red next, but just me, I'm keeping my LB7, no matter what else I gotta do to build it.
Gray truck when u got the time and money repair the red one keep most of the original parts
i like the idea of just building the gray truck
