The Ultimate Full-Suspension Bikepacking Build??? | ARC 8 Evolve FS

- Question: Is this the ultimate full-suspension Bikepacking rig?
For the deep dive blog head to our website: www.tailfin.cc...
Join us on this journey as we embark on our ASMR-inspired full-suspension Bikepacking dream build.
We built for two reasons - 1) to celebrate the launch of our SRAM Eagle Transmission Adaptor and 2) To see what an ultra-lightweight full suspension XC/Downcountry/Trail bike that could be both quick as lightning and capable of long days in the saddle...
This isn't your standard XC ride, and it's definitely not your typical trail bike. Is the Arc8 Evolve FS a bike that can truly do it all, is it possible? We're really curious to see if this can blur the lines between XC & Trail. With a Head Tube Angle that's a full 1.5 degrees slacker than the usual XC bikes from Specialized or Santa Cruz we thought this might offer opportunities in the bikepacking world when taking on long expeditions. Further, with a unique compact rear suspension layout maximizes the frame space whilst minimizing standover.
Of course, there are some concerns to tackle on this adventure. We're looking at stiffness and robustness for those demanding Bikepacking trails along with frame durability. The headset routing almost caused us to pass this up but we decided to look that one over in favour of the other attributes.
Thanks to Sterlands Cycles, Bristol for the build.

@@TailfinCycling Thanks & Have a great week Sir 🙏🕊
I love how not gentle this build is, haha
Great film
Thanks very much Matthew!

Great vid, would love to see a video of the suspension compressing and how the bag pivots!
Hey kit!
If you message us on Instagram @tailfincycling or send us an email hello@tailfin.cc we will be able to share a video with you showing this

No problem!

Awesome build! good video!
Thanks Dems
This doesn't look like a bike packing build. Maybe XC race...
This was definitely a bit of an experiment. You can dig in to some of the reasoning on the blog… www.tailfin.cc/blog/building-the-dream-bikepacking-mtb/
@@TailfinCycling wow nice write up!!
@@dadlife8289Thank you!
Many folk bikepack on such FS bikes. Even the winner of the recent Atlas Mountain race was on one.
In fact my full sus bike, a Specialized Epic Evo was chosen with this in mind,. My criteria for any bike is be able to fit two bottle cages inside frame or frame bag,. But not for doing crazy endurance racing I should add. 😁
Interestingly my Epic Evo was second choice for this build by Tailfin. Surprised that most bike companies haven't twigged this market for XC race bikes.
FS XC race bikes make for great bikepacking bikes, *if* they have an uncluttered frame triangle.
Great video - love watching a fine bike build up. I will endorse Tailfin kit as well engineered and constructed - full bags on my rigid Ti pinion drive from Solace Cycles in NY. One enhancement that would be useful for us running droppers is 'Extra Long Top Stay Length.' I bought the 'Long' but it doesn't set the top bag (AP20) far enough back to clear the seat. Appears as though it won't with this build either but perhaps. Would like to see sus in action with rack - assume it just pivots on the axle but if your seat is lowered and rear compressed - that could get really tight.
Cantik sekali sepedanya❤❤❤
Tapi sayang saya gak suka frame karbon. 😂😂😂
Salaam dari Indonesia
Great build. May I know what bottle cage was used?
Hi Rod, this is an un-branded carbon cage.
What’s that stuff you put over the internal routed cable? I would love to get some for my own bike.
Hi Luke, it's heat shrink wrap, great for tidying up those front end 'snake pits'
what size bags are being used here?
Hi Jamie, I've attached the bags in the video down below -
Top tube bag - www.tailfin.cc/product/small-packs/top-tube-bags/top-tube-bag-flip/?v=79cba1185463
Aeropack - www.tailfin.cc/product/seat-packs/carbon-aeropacks/aeropack-carbon/?v=79cba1185463
Downtube pack - www.tailfin.cc/product/small-packs/downtube-packs/downtube-packs/?v=79cba1185463
Great video - except that it's basically a commercial for Tailfin and Sram. I love Tailfin products but this is just a top bag and a rack, all of which I already own, and use on my dual suspension Pivot with full and regular use. Nice commercial though.
I'm not sure which Pivot you have but the latest Mach 4 SL was actually on the short list too!
Appreciate the love for Tailfin products! I suppose one aspect this video is just a slightly more glamorous way of showing that Tailfin rack's are now compatible with SRAM Eagle Transmission. The build was certainly built around being able to utilize it for testing purposes. Alternatively you could watch our considerably drier install video! 😂
Wwhat makes this so "ultimate" Just a tailfin and another top tube bag.
That's a good question! There's more details on the build here and why each component was chosen... www.tailfin.cc/blog/building-the-dream-bikepacking-mtb/
This build was definitely an experiment and really the title is more of a question than the answer. What would you change?
Please tell me the back side of the main triangle isn't designed to have a gaping hole in the rear end, right above the bottom bracket bearings...
Besides, if you're going to use a torque wrench like this, you're supposed to tighten carefully and stop right when it clicks, not tighten another 20 degrees after as your mechanic did with the bottom bracket. Might as well not use a torque wrench at all.
No.
