Great video - love watching a fine bike build up. I will endorse Tailfin kit as well engineered and constructed - full bags on my rigid Ti pinion drive from Solace Cycles in NY. One enhancement that would be useful for us running droppers is 'Extra Long Top Stay Length.' I bought the 'Long' but it doesn't set the top bag (AP20) far enough back to clear the seat. Appears as though it won't with this build either but perhaps. Would like to see sus in action with rack - assume it just pivots on the axle but if your seat is lowered and rear compressed - that could get really tight.
This was definitely a bit of an experiment. You can dig in to some of the reasoning on the blog… www.tailfin.cc/blog/building-the-dream-bikepacking-mtb/
Many folk bikepack on such FS bikes. Even the winner of the recent Atlas Mountain race was on one. In fact my full sus bike, a Specialized Epic Evo was chosen with this in mind,. My criteria for any bike is be able to fit two bottle cages inside frame or frame bag,. But not for doing crazy endurance racing I should add. 😁 Interestingly my Epic Evo was second choice for this build by Tailfin. Surprised that most bike companies haven't twigged this market for XC race bikes. FS XC race bikes make for great bikepacking bikes, *if* they have an uncluttered frame triangle.
Hi Jamie, I've attached the bags in the video down below - Top tube bag - www.tailfin.cc/product/small-packs/top-tube-bags/top-tube-bag-flip/?v=79cba1185463 Aeropack - www.tailfin.cc/product/seat-packs/carbon-aeropacks/aeropack-carbon/?v=79cba1185463 Downtube pack - www.tailfin.cc/product/small-packs/downtube-packs/downtube-packs/?v=79cba1185463
Great video - except that it's basically a commercial for Tailfin and Sram. I love Tailfin products but this is just a top bag and a rack, all of which I already own, and use on my dual suspension Pivot with full and regular use. Nice commercial though.
I'm not sure which Pivot you have but the latest Mach 4 SL was actually on the short list too! Appreciate the love for Tailfin products! I suppose one aspect this video is just a slightly more glamorous way of showing that Tailfin rack's are now compatible with SRAM Eagle Transmission. The build was certainly built around being able to utilize it for testing purposes. Alternatively you could watch our considerably drier install video! 😂
That's a good question! There's more details on the build here and why each component was chosen... www.tailfin.cc/blog/building-the-dream-bikepacking-mtb/ This build was definitely an experiment and really the title is more of a question than the answer. What would you change?
Please tell me the back side of the main triangle isn't designed to have a gaping hole in the rear end, right above the bottom bracket bearings... Besides, if you're going to use a torque wrench like this, you're supposed to tighten carefully and stop right when it clicks, not tighten another 20 degrees after as your mechanic did with the bottom bracket. Might as well not use a torque wrench at all.

I love how not gentle this build is, haha
Great vid, would love to see a video of the suspension compressing and how the bag pivots!

Great build. May I know what bottle cage was used?
Hi Rod, this is an un-branded carbon cage.
Cantik sekali sepedanya❤❤❤
Tapi sayang saya gak suka frame karbon. 😂😂😂

What’s that stuff you put over the internal routed cable? I would love to get some for my own bike.
Hi Luke, it's heat shrink wrap, great for tidying up those front end 'snake pits'
what size bags are being used here?
Hi Jamie, I've attached the bags in the video down below -

Wwhat makes this so "ultimate" Just a tailfin and another top tube bag.
