  • Learn how to set the best pressure for your mountain bike tires. In the second half of the video, Coach Ian Hughes goes over MTB suspension setup, understanding it and getting it dialed-in.
Bracketing, bracketing, bracketing. Get it? Read below...
    TIRES
Tire pressure is not an absolute number. Not everyone rides the same way, on the same terrain and in the same conditions; not to mention, we all have our unique physiology! More importantly, you must understand your tire setup (with inner-tubes, or tubeless) and the feeling your bike gives you when you ride. Sense the feedback you're getting.
You know your tire pressure is TOO HIGH when:
    The terrain feels harsh.
Your hands hurt from hitting small bumps in rapid sustained succession.
    You lose traction in turns.
You know your tire pressure is TOO LOW when:
    You keep getting pinch flats.
Your wheels suffer and your rims get bent.
You pedal hard and your wheels feel like mush.
BE ZEN about it and find a happy medium. Just like Goldilocks!
You know your tire pressure is PERFECT when:
You climb obstacles without losing traction.
You roll over roots and feel like you're in control.
You take a big hit and your rim is protected.
    SUSPENSION
In the second half of the video, Coach Ian Hughes goes over MTB suspension setup and understanding it. Set your SAG first.
SAG is the percentage of total travel the suspension moves under your static ride weight while you are on the bike in the ready position. Adjust your air pressure first to achieve the desired sag percentage.
Next, adjust your REBOUND to figure out your reference point where the bike does not bounce up off the ground. Finally, tweak your rebound to match the terrain and conditions. And if you have all the bells and whistles on your shocks, do the same with low and high-speed compression.
Want MORE TRACTION? Put less air pressure in your tires and tune your suspension.
