Learn how to order your Italian Gelato the way Italians do, in just 8 minutes!

It's easy to forget Katie is British since her Italian accent is so perfect! I loved hearing her speak English. And Matteo's English accent is adorable!
Apart from stracciatella, there are some other flavours in italian gelato that maybe foreigners are not so used to:
- màlaga (cream with raisins and màlaga wine or rum)
- zabaione (egg cream with marsala wine)
- fiordilatte (milk cream)
- bacio (from the "Bacio Perugina" chocolate candy, hazelnut chocolate with crumble of toasted hazelnuts and dark chocolate variegation)
- gianduia (hazelnut chocolate)
- zuppa inglese (egg cream with chocolate and alchermes, a sweet red liqueur, and crumble of sponge cake)
- cassata (ricotta cream with candied fruit)
- spagnola (egg or milk cream with sour cherry variegation and sour cherries in syrup)
There are some more recent ones, inspired by famous biscuits or desserts:
- Oreo (milk cream with crumble of Oreo biscuits)
- Kinder (milk cream with milk chocolate variegation)
- Rocher (hazelnut chocolate with crumble of hazelnuts and wafers)
- Sette Veli (layers of hazelnut, gianduia, dark chocolate and crumble of hazelnut brittle)
I've never heard Katie and Matteo speaking English!! It's good to get the biscotti, it looks nice in the video! And then Matteo can eat it

I order Ice Cream regularly in Swiss Italian part of Switzerland, thats the only time I feel fluent in Italian because I go there nearly twice per week :D

Sono stata a Milano a maggio, e alla gelateria Il Massimo di Gelato, ho mangiato un cono con due gusti, pistacchio e liquirizia. Mi piace moltissimo la liquirizia, ed era la prima volta che la mangiavo nel gelato 😊

Abito a un isolato di distanza da tre diverse gelaterie! Una è accanto al mio edificio e ho visto Susan Sarandon mangiare un gelato lì durante il Lucca Film Festival l'anno scorso. That was pretty cool!

Video molto ben fatto, complimenti. L'unica cosa che avrei aggiunto, è la questione "panna montata" (whipped cream), che spesso viene menzionata come "optional". Alcune gelaterie la includono nel prezzo, altre no.

Ciao Kate, non mi ricordavo più di questo canale e che si poteva vederti anche qui.
In passato capitava abbastanza spesso che prima ti davano il gelato e poi ti facessero pagare. Era parecchio scomodo pagare con il gelato in mano. Da quando c'è l'obbligo dello scontrino fiscale, cioè dal 1983, sia nelle gelaterie sia nei bar/caffè quasi sempre si paga in anticipo (se non sei servito al tavolo da un cameriere). Adesso si può prendere il gelato con le mani libere, senza avere il portafoglio in mano, e si può iniziar a mangiare il gelato subito appena te lo danno.
Kate spero che tu abbai mangiato subito il gelato che si vede al minuto 0:20 e che non ti sia limitata a dare solo un assaggio. Spero che tu non abbia dovuto aspettare di finire di fare il video per poterlo mangiare.
Conosco abbastanza bene quella gelateria (intendo quello specifico negozio), anche se ci vado di rado perché mi è un po' scomodo arrivarci. Rientra decisamente nella lista delle mie gelaterie preferite di Milano. Se vuoi ho una lista di 5 o 6 gelaterie che considero ottime.
Non so perché ma a scrivere in italiano ad un'insegnante mi viene sempre la paura di aver scritto qualche errore colossale. :-)
(e in questo caso specifico anche nella parte in inglese, visto che sei in grado di correggermi anche in inglese)
Hi Kate. I have forgotten about this channel and that it was possible to see you here.
In the past it happened quite frequently that you have to take the ice cream (gelato) first and pay after. It was a little bit awkward to pay with one hand not available because you had to carry the gelato. Since in Italy came in force the law imposing the issue of a fiscal receipt, in 1938, it has became the normal way both in gelaterie (ice cream parlour) and café to pay first (unless you are served at the table by a waiter). Now you can pick up the gelato with you hand free, with no wallet in hand, and you can start to enjoy the gelato from the very moment you have it in hand.
Kate, I really hope that you have eaten the gelato that we can see at the minute 0:20 and that you have not just gave it a peck. I hope you had not to wait until the end of the recording to be able to eat it.
I know quite well this specific gelateira (ice cream parlour), but I do not get there very often because it not very easy for me to get there. It is definitively inside my short list of my favourite gelaterie of Milan. If you want I have list of about 5 or 6 gelaterie that I consider extremely good.
I do not why but when I write in Italian to an Italian teacher I always afraid that I might have written something wrong :-)
(and in this specific case also when I am writing the English part as you can also correct the English part)

Esatto!😊You might also want to specify whether you want "un cono" or "una coppetta". So you could say: "Vorrei un cono con due gusti: fragola e pistacchio. "
Da me si paga sempre dopo, mai fatto uno scontrino e poi preso il gelato. Non mi sembra una regola generale, anche perché scegli cosa prendere e poi paghi

Di solito non c'è. Ma è sempre meglio chiedere conferma o controllare se c'è il simbolo V (vegano) di fianco al gusto!
