If you've made it this far in the description, remember to be safe when creature adventuring! Most wild animals can cause injury if harassed, and I do not recommend attempting to capture any creatures without purpose and practice. The reason that I interact with wildlife is to produce these educational videos, and I am confident in my abilities to handle creatures such as a dekay's brown snake because I have years of zoology experience under my belt. Also, I always ask permission from a land owner before exploring on their property, and you should do the same.
Keep adventuring everywhere, and keep your adventures safe at all times!

Hello, explorers!
Today I graduated from high school, which is why this video got uploaded a little later in the day than usual, so I hope you don't mind. Anyway, with school out for summer I will be spending the next week at the NC coast, filming the Eastern North Carolina flora and fauna.
I hope to film animals such as the bluntnose stingray and Atlantic black tip shark while there, but we will see how things turn out. I won't likely have an official episode out next Saturday because I can't edit at the beach, but this is going to be an AMAZING summer of exploring and filming.
See you on the next adventure!
-Ben Zino
Congratulations!
congrats on finishing school!
im am homeschooled so it depends when my summer starts (I hate math!)
The Wild Report Congratulations and good luck!!
congrats
This young man has a great future in herpetology ....he is fearless.
So was Steve Irwin.
@Isaac Duran dude… project much?
@@auto_5 😅😅
I can honestly see this man running through a field and getting bit by a rattlesnake one of these days, just be the coyote Peterson of the reptile community " hey guys to day we are getting swallowed alive by a comodo Dragon"!😂
I’ve been keeping snakes my whole life and I have never I mean never been able to catch a racer. I’ve only seen 2 in the wild
He's good educating the public about snakes , which are mostly harmless to people.
minus facts
These are hands down my favorite snake . The fact that they can move at +10 mph blows my mind.
I see them when trimming my bushes in Orlando Florida. I leave them alone, they do no harm.
That's awesome, thanks for letting them be!
Joseph Jolly we need more people like you
You think humans jog at 12mph? Are you friends with the flash or something? 🤣
Matt Gonzalez lol
Lol
I tried seeing how long I could go on a treadmill maxed out at 12 once. 1:30. I am 6'3". 12mph is hauling ass. Good vid!
I was thinking the same thing. It takes me about 10 minutes to jog a mile, which equates to 6 miles an hour.
Just found one in my back yard. About 5 ft long. Skinny, long and fast as hell.
Sounds about right!
I found one with my uncle and I ran as fast as I could but as soon as I started running it started to run the other way too but I saw the tail rattling and ran but I just left it alone and so did he
Ron Rosen lucky you
I saw one last year. Must have been an adult. Seemed to be 6-8 feet long. I was like damn, I don't remember leaving my garden hose over here" then it moved and I ran lol.
Awesome catch Ben! Black racers are always a ton of fun, we’ve tried catching them in Florida and they always seem to get away! Congrats on your graduation, I look forward to seeing all the great things you find this summer!
Thanks a ton guys! Really glad to have your support. I'm also looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos!
No worries! We have an announcement video coming out in about a week, so that will mark the beginning of our summer exploring :). Hopefully we will be able to increase our upload schedule a lot, we have a couple episodes stored away but the editing takes a lot of time, as I’m sure you know. It will be a good summer though!
Awesome. I can't wait!
Great video. That is such an amazing snake. Keep up the good work!
I have 2 snakes about 6f feets long in my front porch right now.!!!!
This is the reason I'm here looking for information.!!!
When I was a kid, my brother and I were going outside; he was in front, with me not far behind. As he walked out the front door a black racer just fell right behind him (it had been hanging out on top of the door frame, I guess). Luckily, I was far enough behind that I didn't have it fall on me. I was funny watching my brother just run halfway up the driveway while I jumped back and stayed inside while the snake skurried away.
No way! That's such a cool story. I would have died laughing haha
lol I guess not every one is a snake person
I actually stepped on one once. I was taking down the trash and it was warming up on our driveway on a moonless night. It felt like a smooth stick and it just pulled itself out from under me.
Congratulations on your graduation!! I can’t wait to see you grow!!
Love your channel! Keep it up bud!
Thank you, glad to hear you are enjoying my content!
Bro I saw one last night on my back patio sitting against my house 🤦🏾♂️😂 good thing I turned my porch light on I would have stepped on him 😩 he was about 2 to 3 ft long he saw me and just slithered off in the yard somewhere we had a big rain storm named laura this week in Louisiana so they are coming out
Haha they love to pop up unexpectedly
Thanks for sharing and teaching us!
Thanks alot man. I just found one in my garage and if my wife came home and saw it she would burn the house down. I safely returned it to woods but man was it aggressive. Thanks alot for the info, you really helped alot!
Glad I could help, thanks so much for relocating it to a safe place!
Great job on this snake, Man. I never put the two and two together about their body mass allowing them to come out earlier in the year. Looking back, I agree with you. Cool stuff.
All of your videos are awesome.
This guy rules! 😃 incredible young man!
We just found one in our garden today, that's why we do research and found you. It's really cool.
Great job. I hope you keep up with this channel. We have a ton of black racers in our yard. They are super cool snakes, but definitely have a little attitude.
Thanks Melissa! They are a bit nippy for sure.
I enjoy this video. Thanks. I found one today and it freaked me out but this video helps to calm my anxiety lol
Thank you, glad it helped!
Love your videos.
Thank you.
Thanks so much!
Never heard of a Black Racer until I saw a Black Racer vs a Cottonmouth. Was intrigued so I came to your channel
Cool, glad I could introduce you to a new species!
That doesn’t sound like a fair fight
The other day I was going up a trail not walked very often, and I saw one of these hunt down and eat a skink! Never seen a snake hunting in the wild before, so I got pretty excited about that. Wasn't sure if it was venomous at the time though, so I didn't get too close. Thanks for the info!
Dude that's so cool, I've heard that these guys will specialize in skinks in some areas but have never seen predatory behavior myself!
Just saw one in my backyard, came right here it find out more about it. Thanks for the info.
Glad I could help!
This is an awesome video! Great job just watch out and be careful.
Thank you, I'm always careful in the field!
Nice video Ben! Racers are amazing animals. Hoping to do a video on them soon!
Thanks dude, I hope to see a video from you on racers as well!
Thanks Ben! Congratulations on graduating High school!
Good job man. It's like watching Steve Irwin: The early years.
R.i.p Steve.
My first thought... lol
Thank you for your knowledge I seen one in back yard and didn’t chase it out cause I thought it was venomous
Thanks for the video, lots of personality and helped identify what snake bit my foot when I brushed against it riding my bike in flip flops. It was sitting up like a weed so didn’t think it was a snake until it bit me but at least I knew it wasn’t poisonous, thanks again.
No problem Heather, so glad that you were able to identify the snake!
This is the very first snake I’ve ever seen in person. I saw one yesterday and was terrified. I was out in the parking lot by my community gym. It’s a new construction and they tell me there’s a lot of these coming out lately
Join your local snake ID group on Facebook! It will help with your fear tremendously if you can identify what's dangerous and what's not! No need to be afraid, they all think we are going to kill & eat them, lol
Wow you’re amazing and so brave!! Plus I’m so into black snakes I would love to know more about them
I have two videos about black snakes up on my channel!
Wassup just wanted to say thx cause u gave me my confidence to handle my first snake today it was a 2/3 foot wild corn snake
I have a ghost corn snake as pet was 12 inches long when I got her a year ago she is 45 inches long now but she will get to be bout 6 to 7 feet long she is so docile our 2 and 4 yr old grandbabies hold her
I found a black racer in my house yesterday! He had gotten cool on the tile and I was able to pick him up quite easily and return him to the grass, all the while fighting off the two apex predators of my home (the two cats). I watched him as he warmed back up and slithered off. That was very cool. There are racers at the edge of the back yard and I like having them there as there is something of a rodent problem in my part of Florida. They'll crawl through the grass, then stop and stick their heads up like periscopes to get their bearings.
Awesome, glad you had an interesting encounter with one!
Thanks for the info! I live right on the lake in my condo unit and it’s the second time we’ve seen this guy this week. I was just coming home and he was right in the middle of the sidewalk and when he heard me approaching, he went running really fast.. I say running of course slithering and he went through the bushes and then came out the other side and across another sidewalk and back into the bushes and I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t poisonous. I actually like snakes as long as they don’t bite me! Lol
That's so cool, it's always a joy to observe snakes in the wild!
I love these guys, always are funny around my property in the summer. Had one playing peek a boo with me a few years back, it spotted me and tucked his head back under the rock, then he kept sticking his head out watching me. I turn back around to look at him and poof back under the rock. Just had one sunning about 5 feet from me as I was tanning myself getting ready for summer, reason I'm looking up videos on them again lol.
Haha that's awesome, these do seem to be very aware and intelligent by snake standards.
Congrats on the grad. Onto bigger things. Man , those racers love to bite the face. a 5 min find is always cool.
Bravo my dude!
I finally got to pick up the black snake that has been around my house for several months. A beautiful and friendly fella.
Black speed noodle" tryin to be all mamba like"
Very fast snake! Beautiful
Definitely incredibly fast and gorgeous!
Liked and subscribed I love this kid
Thanks, welcome to the channel!
One of my favorite forest friends!
A lot of people confuse these with rat snakes however they're much less gentle in my experience. Rat snakes are slow moving and will usually let you scoop them up pretty easily where as the Racers tend to dart the sending they notice you approaching. I have been bit by a racer once while trying to handle ot and I didnt find it all that painful, more startling than anything. Very fascinating snake that most people dont even know about. Great video as always
I see one of those snakes around my property at least once a week. Glad they’re around
Found one of these today in the yard and it was rattling its tail as in mimicking a rattler snake. First time I've seen this type in person. It was very aggressive as well once walked up on. Kept going up the bushes and hanging on while watching and ready to strike.
Yeah these guys will tail rattle and so will many other nonvenomous species!
Thank you! Saw one today looked up black snakes in Florida! LED me here! He was @ my front door. Went to shake out a rug! Thankfully it was still looking as I backed up went back inside! He was starting me down too! I had to shake it off 😅 just checked he’s gone. Hopefully never to return. 😱
Glad the video was helpful!
I usually see 1 or 2 of these during the summer. I'm in PA on a hilltop surrounded by woods with a rock ridge running parallel to my house. They often sun by my back patio and dart off into the woods. They seem very timid. They do get cranky and very aggressive if cornered, though. I try to leave them alone, hoping they keep the mice under control.
Awesome, glad you are letting them hang out. They will definitely help with pest populations!
Just a tip, I recommend saying, defensive, rather than aggressive, because aggressive would mean it goes out of its way to bite you, but defensive, means it is protecting itself. And it could give people the wrong idea about the snake.
Good point, I appreciate the feedback!
very well spoken
we have one of these guys in our shed almost every spring and summer. We let em be but it's so odd opening the shed, looking up and seeing him just staring at you from the rafters and I mean they will stare you down any day of the week.
On my gosh, look at him go!
These guys can ZOOM
Find em in massachussets 6 footers huge theyll stand up and actually periscope over tall grass bushes its amazing behavior great vision too more black racers 👍
Amazing racers and kings snakes are needed they really help keeping the environment it’s in clean
I'm happy you told me that you're a cool business house I've seen one
Just had one of these slither past my back porch area in some semi-tall grass.
I actually stepped on one once. I was taking down the trash and it was warming up on our driveway on a moonless night. It felt like a smooth stick and it just pulled itself out from under me.
I used to be so scared of these things just around my yard as a kid lol
Yep thats what I saw today was a black racer ! More aggressive than the black snake or rat snake in your other video !
Great video! That snake wanted to rip your face off lol.
Thanks, and for sure haha
Nice! I have a Racer in my back yard. It likes to hangout by the pool but every time I open the back door he takes off.
Very cool!
Good stuff
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed!
I came to this video because I saw one in my backyard n wanted to know if I could catch it😂
Well did it work?
@@TheWildReportOfficial once I catch it I'll let you guys😂 it pops up not very often
Respect for black racers.
Cool!!
Thanks Holly!
We had a black racer this morning on our crape myrtle tree for a while. Came down and we were watching - was swallowing a frog. We are I. Tampa Fl. Can they come inside the home?
Woah, so cool! They certainly could but it's unlikely.
Danger noodle! Just found one in my back yard, it was sitting up while laying on my stone pathway and we both froze. Lol
Haha they do love to bask on rock
How do I repell them from my property ? I have one under my central air conditioner. Will it try to come in my house ? I see it hunting lizards in my yard.
I catch at least 3 of them a week. My kids homeschool group loved the variety of Venomous a non-venomous snakes I bring home
Dude your nose was a worthy opponent 🤣😂😂
She's a beauty...we must protect our native snakes " now" .
Does it hurt getting bit by them? What does it feel like in comparison.
I had one of these beauties inside my garage door hanging onto the lip inside the door. We gently coaxed him out and showed him the way out of the garage. He hung out under my front porch for a while. I didn’t mind
That's awesome! Thank you for not harnessing or harming the animal in any way.
The Wild Report No problem at all. I actually like these snakes.
They are great climbers...
saw one yesterday at Mason Neck State Park
Cool video!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
I was looking for a video on Black Racer the speedster and I stumbled upon this video and it was actually pretty cool.
Hello ben ive been waiting to see ypu vid im one of your student's
Hey Debbie, glad to have you here!
My property is loaded with black racers. They are a surly bunch for sure. I have accidentally cornered a few and they coil up in striking position and rattle their tails in dead leaves to emulate a rattlesnake.
I have heard on other channels they actually can identify faces, and love to bite them or at least try. Smart snake!
I was mowing last year and a racer came out of the woods and across the yard 40’ right at me. I thought he was going to jump on the mower with me, I floored it. He rared up like a cobra and followed me 20’ or so and turned around and headed back into the woods.
He loves to bite!
I was taking a leak outside in the woods the other day, looked down and about pissed on my leg when one sped inches past my foot. lmao always loved black racers, the only snake I do not have a serious fear towards. Mainly because they don't stick around long.
Haha they are definitely masterful at randomly popping up in unexpected places
@@TheWildReportOfficial I need help I have one in my garage. I’m probably gonna kill it but how do I get him
@@robjobs3709 leave the garage door open it will probably go away on it's own you may have mice
I have 2 adults living in my backyard. I see them every morning so they are my little friends. Both about 5 feet.
I live in an area surrounded by black racers, usually i am sore after i am bit but only thing that scares me is the infections, along with the fact i get chased often in my backyard after doing projects.
Cool! Yeah the bites do not feel great, but as long as you wash them with soap and water you should be okay.
The Wild Report i am interested in becoming a zooologistand have started off with dogs and reptiles, so i love to see content like this! ive caught a small alligator before and for a 12 year old, i do not want to go down tat road again.
That's awesome! Haha alligators are pretty tough reptiles.
OK, so snakes are not my thing but I found two black racers tangled up in some cheap netting I used to protect berries I planted. I was able to cut them loose and set them free thanks to your videos . I am actually in the north Georgia Mountains, a terrain very much like where you are in N.C. ( I set them free but not before they nipped my thumbs.) Thanks for the info.
So glad that you were able to set them free, thanks for helping them out!
I remember these were the hardest to catch when I was a kid.
I never seen any snake strikes so fast than black racer.
Yeah they are ridiculous
9 seconds in: Okay we could make a documentary voice over of homo sapiens huntin-- WOAAAH holy shit are you okay?
Haha my camera man wasn't expecting a strike like that...neither was I
XD
My dad and I were hiking in our woods when we came across one eating a frog😅 I love snakes so I natural got pretty close and took pictures. And it zoomed off in the direction we came from and my dad (he is very afraid of snakes) made us walk another mile off the trail to avoid coming across it again
Wow, what an encounter! Did you post the pictures anywhere? And haha that would've been my dad as well.
what part of Florida??
Just saw one. It was chilling outside my door. Didn't try to attack or anything. Was gone by the time I got back
How do you find these snakes so easily? Is it luck or is it skill? Or both? Haha idk but i love your content,. It inspires me to go outside
Definitely both, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Glad my content is inspiring you to get outside!
Lol I just saw one when I was working on my dads semi truck and I only saw the tail at first so I got scared 🤣
Yeah they are amazing at popping up unexpectedly
Ok I’m super afraid of snakes and this is the second time I see a black snake outside my home. I had my hands full with garbage bags and suddenly I saw something move quickly in the bush and it was a black snake. I was paranoid and ran back inside. Help me. How do I know it’s a black racer? Will it bite my kids if they go outside and play and they don’t happen to see it? ;(
I was fishing in TN and had a black snake chase me for about 8 meters, I wonder if this was it
I did actually catch one once that was racing. Only once tho, got bit a bunch for my trouble, but was still a cool snake according to teenage me. I couldn't repeat that feat now.
black colouration is often an adaptation to a colder climate in order to absorb more heat especially for smaller animals which loses body heat very quickly
The only time I've ever seen a racer was about 3 years ago. This happened in the area north of the Texas Hill Country near, Priddy, Texas. This other guy and I were seated on some flat cars on a rancher's private live steam 1/8th scale railroad. Suddenly, I heard something about 8 feet to my left, and looked over just in time to see a green racer fly out of brush on one side of the track and into the brush on the other side of the track, moving about 5 feet in seemingly 2 seconds. I immediately yelled out, jumped up, and ran to the brush just in time to see his tail disappear, but it was like the snake was never there. He completely disappeared. It happened so fast, the other guy didn't see him. The snake was a drab green, almost the same color as the grass around there.
Yeah these guys are crazy fast, if you don't see one sitting still you probably aren't going to catch it at all.
Good content I’ve seen one much larger than that or it looked larger. and wasn’t aware they were around Ohio. But yes very fast. And no real desire to catch him or them.
Thanks! They definitely get bigger than this.
I have a friend who loves catching these things
