Same here. One concern I had was the pressure of how big Chapters 1 & 2 had gotten would get to him at some point. Trying to twist it to appease the unexpected big crowd. But nope! He's not pushing himself! Even with the wrist issue, he's still simply trying to make his dream come to life. And I'm excited to see how it goes!
Genuinely the most satisfied I've been with a newsletter so far. Ignoring the amazing art for a second, this letter really made me feel like the game was actually on its way. All Toby described for things that needed to be finished for 4 sounded like polish mostly, meaning testing, translating, and your typical prep for an actual game release are going to quickly get the focus. This obviously still means months, optimistically end of the year but realistically 1st half of next year. But hey, thinking about how much we've waited so far, how much we will get when its out, and how much faster of a steady release we're going to be getting going forwards, this is a turning point. Stay determined people. We're nearing the end of the dark. Focus on other aspects of your life, other interests, or just buckle down and brace for it cause we're in the final stretch.
I really appreciate how genuine and up front Toby was about everything. He really broke it down in a digestible fashion that I think even the most casual fans can understand.
@@MrBells-un5ly I'd say 2026 if it was 3 - 5, but since the release is just 3 - 4, it's probably not too unreasonable. Depends on how long the QA testing and other logistics take.
6:16 While I've never created a game I do understand from experience how long it can take to make something even if it's just 20 seconds long. I encourage anyone to try to draw or write something and turn yourself. You'll see just how long it can take.
Yeah, I think a lot of people who aren't artist or creators may not realize just how much work it takes TO create. It's faster to consume a work than to make it, and each type of art brings its own challenges.
i've been practicing myself on C(though I would like to use RPGMaker), and it took me about 6 hours just to get basic functionality for a RPG style fight(no images, just text)! It's long and could be considered grueling, but I find it fun.
What would make sense with Susie's "punched through a guy" line, I can picture her sticking her fist through a large gingerbread man cutter and thinking it's the funniest thing ever, lol
I appreciate how Toby wants to make sure these next three chapters are truly worth the money. Fans would definitely be willing to pay for one or two individual chapters, but Toby isn't comfortable charging people unless he's delivering something bigger than the previous free chapters.
3:44 -- "I made a comment about how it's entirely possible that Ralsei, for whatever reason, is going to put the hat back on. Maybe he gets shy around Toriel and Asgore, maybe he gets insecure in terms of seeing them and realizing they look so much like him, but they're Lightners and he's a Darkners and what does this mean." I chalk it up to that and they're not gonna let that look go.
My Deltarune fixation came back just at the right time, i can't wait for chapters 3 and 4 and I hope Toby and the rest of the team get all the time they need to polish everything properly, I know they won't disappoint
I always kinda felt a bit weird about people feeling weird about the "doesnt know what it means to be ralsei like" scene. Idk i found it slightly relatable since i often feel like i don't fully know what the hell i'm like from an outside perspective. Idk maybe my sense of self is screwed up after the pandemic.
Nah, I think it's an understandable feeling. In Ralsei's case there's also just the layer of darkners and his belief that they're subservient to lightners that adds some intrigue to it all.
Yes exactly this! I see a lot of people connect this line to a theory that ralsei is evil or something but i dont think thats true at all. I think he’s just kinda insecure. I hope we get to hear him open up more about how he feels in the following chapters
It's pretty much depends on how smoothly the translation, bug-testing and porting it on console all went (since chapter 4 is almost content complete by now)
funny fact. someone with a deltarune pfp retweeted (no, i am NOT calling it X) a gamemaker update and they replied, intending to say "WORTH NOTING. This is not the gamaker updated the deltarune team is waiting for." however, they accidentally made a typo resulting in the rather humorous sentence: "WORTH NOTHING. this is not the update the deltarune team is waiting for" 😂
what's even funnier is that someone retweeted it just saying "WORTH NOTHING!!!" and they replied "NOOOOO ITS WORTH A LOT" glad to see the team at gamemaker are actually pretty funny and nice people and not another soulless company like we see so much nowadays. toby has some very awesome helpers, haha. XD
My main take away is that while Chapters 3 & 4 is nearing completion, creating both chapters were only half the battle! Uploading them to PC, Consoles, translating them into Japanese, AND testing out new the new GameMaker feature is a whole other story! At the end of the day, I’m pleased that Deltarune is just coming along nicely. Hopefully these big strides in development can make creating future chapters smoother!
I really appreciated this newsletter I had no idea how much went into actually publishing a not-free game and it really helped put things into perspective of how just because things are almost done with the game doesn’t meant it’s ready for release! Probably the best newsletter in a while thank you Toby and crew!!
TBH, I really appreciate that one of the reasons it's taking a while is because they're working towards simultaneous release for all platforms. I suck playing on keyboard so I replayed the whole thing on switch for a more enjoyable experience, I was worried I will be left behind a few months for the first time experience lmao.

I still think it possible for the game to release this fall, but if not I still understand I respect toby for taking his time to finish and polishing perhaps his biggest project ever the only think is the more time hype I get but also concerned about the expectation the fandom will have
im guessing the ginger gaurd refers to a cookie cutter enemy rather than a gingerbread enemy (the bangle was shaped by fire to make the shape of a gingerbread man) also susie punches through the whole of the cutter
I’m glad they are taking the time to polish the game as much as possible for the paid release. They were some small inconsistencies between chapter 1 and 2 that made them feel a little disjointed, and I hope they fix that to make the full experience more cohesive.
Honestly the longer we wait for new chapters, the more excited I am. I really don't get people who are complaining that it takes so long for new chapters to be released, that's the fun part! The fandom is going to be alive for way longer, and the time between the new chapters is actually very needed, considering how much hidden stuff those chapters have, to analyze them all. I absolutely love how much Berdly representation we're getting in these. It gives me hope that Berdly might play a big role in a future chapter, even if it doesn't mean he's a main character. Also, they're leaning really heavily on the Berdly swimwear, it'd be a shame not to give it some form of cameo.
I was thinking the same thing about it releasing sometime in 2025. Then a thought hit me (just a thought, not saying nor trying to put blind hope or rushing or anything like that). But thinking about chapter 2 when it really shows who Noelle is and the Spamton Sweeps stakes taking a dive into Noelle’s family/lore. I would think that they could possibly be aiming towards a potential release in December. Reason why is they recently showed more lore in Noelle’s sister, Dess, and evening hinting that we’re trying to find her. So it’s a possibility that they could be hoping to release Chapters 3 and 4. But that’s just a thought, A GAME THOUGHT… (It’s not the same…)
I think deltarune chapters 3 and 4 releasing late this year is a very real possibility since all that should only take 2-4 months if I had to guess since everything is being finalized, bugs are being fixed, and release is being prepped
I am kind of worried about the "having a company play the game to bugtest it" thing. It only takes 1 employee and all information about chapter 3 and 4 will be everywhere on the internet.
Yeah, though that depends entirely on the company, too. We've had leaks from within big companies before, but it's not guaranteed, and even Undertale had a similar experience, but IIRC it wasn't leaked.
My original hope was a fall 2024 release..but now i think it might be December 2024 or Jan-Fan 2025. Either way, I'm happy to get new deltarune content.
You know, have recently watched the "secret identities" video had me thinking, this trope would also work with the "secret hidden world" trope like trollhunters or the Persona series, like what would happen if the residence in hometown the discover the "Darkworlds" and "The legend"?
With the new guinea pig version of Deltarune Chapter 1&2, we're gonna be able to play it! More Deltarune... even if it's just those 2 chapters. Great work as always!
Im guessing that the chapter will be released around December to January. At the earliest. Thats about 5-6 months ish from now which does give them alot of time for certain things, however it could also be released even later depending if things go wrong or third-parties (getting the game rated, Console publishers accepting the game on there platform, extra) decided to be slow or difficult.
I also thought the same thing about the chairiel part, it seems like a bit of an odd thing to point out, though maybe I’m just looking too deep into it lmbo
Here is a stupid tought of mine Toby said that one of his friend that played trough the unfinished chapter 4 said that toby should name every single chair, since it chariel had a name. With this comentary, we know that the chapter 4 will have chairs. Now i know this is a uselles information, But just think about something: what was the last time a chair had a had a certain focus (besides chariel and the throne of gods that serve more as a joke)? Exactly, *the spamtom sweepstakes* More especificaly that page that we had that pair of colored eyes. That (probably) are The same eyes we see on the queen's basement. So maybe... just maybe... the chair is the secret boss of chapter 4 (Please don't take this seriously, it's just a joke:))

I think deltarune chapters 3 and 4 releasing late this year is a very real possibility since all that should only take 2-4 months if I had to guess since everything is being finalized, bugs are being fixed, and release is being prepped

I am kind of worried about the "having a company play the game to bugtest it" thing. It only takes 1 employee and all information about chapter 3 and 4 will be everywhere on the internet.
Yeah, though that depends entirely on the company, too. We've had leaks from within big companies before, but it's not guaranteed, and even Undertale had a similar experience, but IIRC it wasn't leaked.
My original hope was a fall 2024 release..but now i think it might be December 2024 or Jan-Fan 2025. Either way, I'm happy to get new deltarune content.

Im guessing that the chapter will be released around December to January. At the earliest.
Thats about 5-6 months ish from now which does give them alot of time for certain things, however it could also be released even later depending if things go wrong or third-parties (getting the game rated, Console publishers accepting the game on there platform, extra) decided to be slow or difficult.

Yep! I wanted to kinda shake up my brand because while I do still hold UT/DR dear and plan to keep covering them, I also wanna branch out to other games and topics. The news about Deltarune, I was glad to see this news! But unfortunately, I'm at the end of the year, I plan to quit the UT/DR franchise and forget for a long time, but I'll come back when 6 years have passed or the full version of Deltarune is released.

Your promo of your other video, & ESPECIALLY your outro were noticeably louder than the rest of the video. In the case of the latter, I'd say unpleasantly so. The former, it was tolerable, maybe a little nice.
