- Deltarune Chapter 2 expanded the game in many ways, but the most notable addition was that of Noelle and Berdly to the story. Knowing that Lightners outside of Kris and Susie can join the adventure, who can we expect to see next? Today, let’s look at EVERY notable character in Hometown and figure out which ones are most likely to explore future Dark Worlds!

Napstablook would be a lot more interesting than Undyne for chapter 3. Undyne already had a lot of attention in Undertale. I feel like they could explore Napstablook's character in a new way that Undertale couldn't.

I can imagine Sans looking completely the same in the Dark World, and instead of being a party member he just wanders around and makes funny jokes.
Basically kinda like in Undertale just being ahead of the others to make witty banter and funny jokes maybe even on occasion helping the party out with some items from his store which would be interesting if you think about it 🤔
He pretends he doesn't even notice the difference and just thinks someone turned out the lights

I remember someone (can't remember who) said that he should look the exact same in the dark world, but he has pink slippers instead of white ones (as he is commonly depicted with pink slippers)
I think it would be funny that papyrus would be forshadowed every chapter only to never show up.
Then during the ending we see Papyrus shout from off screen that he's finally making his grand appearance...! And then the credits roll. "NYEH HEH HEH HEH!!!"
I can see that happening but we and toby loves papyrus so i belive he plans something more dignified and extraordinar introduction

The whole "papyrus doesn't know the sun" idea is strange
Undyne says the word "sunlight" right beforehand,multiple monsters say they want to see the sun
It doesn't affect his chance,but it's clear papyrus knows what the sun is.hes just shocked seeing it for the first time because he genuinely doesn't know what it looks like

A bigger plot hole in the "Sans and Papyrus deltarune" theory is the fact that Undertale Sans didn't know who Toriel was (only knowing her voice) until they met in the pacifist ending even tho he knows Toriel in deltarune. Of course he could be faking it but then you could use that exact same excuse for Papyrus and the sun (heck there's an instance in the game where he lies about not knowing something) so idk why this is such a big deal lol.
@@moon4236 considering he has a photo of people with “Don’t forget” written you could make the assumption that him and papyrus are suffering from some kind of memory loss, forgetting the world and the people they used to know… but I guess there’s other moments where they seem to remember stuff from their old lives so idk
@@JonnyO514 Well that makes me think that they only have amnesia sometimes. Like sometimes they forget but then it kinda comes back to them? It would explain why papyrus is pretty inconsistent in what he seems to know. And also Sans would probably be more aware this is happening thanks to the notes but it would still get him sometimes? Maybe that's part of why just knowing resets exist affects him so much.
I can't help but feel this is a bit tho amnesia but only sometimes is kind of like the perfect excuse for everything.
I guess we will see in deltarune if this is true because if this is really the intention then it has to come up at some point right? Or maybe sans and papyrus will be a mystery forever who knows.
Honestly, Napsta going to inspect instead of Undyne seems like something Toby would do.
Especially if catching those Dog Burglars take up the entire night that she is at trying to track as well as catch them
Honestly with the whole implied tv theme of chapter 3 I’d love for mad mew mew to have atleast some presence within this dark world, it kinda suprises me how we’ve really got nothing of her in this game other than a few dialogue boxes, I get she’s more recent then her other implied siblings but napstablook had an appearance as a minor character and even Mettaton was referenced heavily during spamton fight with his neo form, which is implied to be the discarded dream/idea of Mettaton of this universe and even he spoke behind a door to us, all mew really got was few dialogue boxes. Maybe it’s just because I’m biased to her character and the ghost monsters, but I find it very tragically fitting considering the whole “nobody chooses who they are” theme with a character that desperately wants to find their true self, or maybe I’m just thinking about it wrong
Ahhh, I knew I forgot someone - yeah, the other ghosts definitely should’ve been highlighted. I think Mew Mew would be great to explore!
But Spamton references mad mew mew a lot. Not only he has the cat element and his face appears as the cheshire cat, but he has her palette while possessing an inanimate object mad mew mew being mad ghost. Also Alphys has a cat which we discover is Susie, but it's implied it was mew mew. It kinda makes sense since Susie has mad ghost's face and was teased in their area in undertale Switch, the update that Also included mad mew mew.
Wasn't Mew Mew Kissy Cutie an Anime aka a Show ala a Potential Area in chapter 3 that can actually happen!?
@@ninjabros6282 definitely possible. But it’ll for sure not be the same one in Undertale. And not even in a ‘Oh this is an alternate version of the character thing.’ Mew Mew in Undertale is legit just Mad Dummy but slightly more happy. In Deltarune, it’ll likely be the real Mew Mew. (Or at least as real as she can be)
Honestly it’s unrealistic, but it’d be funny as hell if the secret boss ended up being Mew Mew, specifically the one from the first movie, as apparently it was dog crap compared to the sequel. At least according to Alphys. Not the best choice in my eyes, but definitely the best meme one.
It would be hilarious if the reason why Sans and Papyrus just suddenly appeared in Undertale is because they moved to Hometown relatively recently (probably a few months back) and Kris added them to Undertale (the game them and Asriel made) but that's a completely different can of worms that I shouldn't be opening.

I love that your speculations weren't based just on lore and concrete evidence, buy also from a storytelling and narrative perspective, and on what Toby would have wanted for the game.
The latter is very important for understanding why Toriel, of all MUTTs will enter a dark world - Toby had stated that he doesn't like how mother (the familial unit, not the video game) characters serve a very minor role in most rpgs. This is why Toriel is as important as she is in Undertale and also happens to serve the same role (minus the tutorial bit) in DR
I also think it would be really funny is Napstablook was the one to arrive in Chapter 3. Like, Kris hears about the roaring, gets worried about the catastrophic implications, creates a Dark World just so they can show the most fierce officer in town that Dark Worlds do, in fact, exist and something needs to be done about them only to have a meek hovering bedsheet arrive
Also I don’t think chapter 3 will be in the dremurr household, Kris just accidentally hit a gas pipe filling the room with carbon monoxide, and Kris fainted. Then they will be driven to the hospital where the actual chapter will start.

I would honestly love a Jockington character arch, with him coming to terms with the fact that not everyone has to love him. It would be just so fun to see him specifically grow as a character, but Catti as well would be amazing. I feel like her arch would end up being close to Susie's, with her learning to be more comfortable with people, and wanting to be more friendly and social through making friends with the Fun Gang
Honestly? i'd love to see Papyrus make an appearance in one of the chapters. I imagine him being the fun anatagonist, maybe even a slightly better "Roulx Kaard" kind of character, in Deltarune- it would be nice to see him in a different light, something that strays just a bit from his Undertale counterpart but stays truthful of his overall personality. In other words: i wanna see Papyrus Deltarune, the comically funny Robbie Rotten of the dark world, appear in the game. That is all, goodnight.

I don't agree with what you said about Monster kid and Snowdrake, I think they will just because of all the intrigue over that weird door. Also Temmie will obviously not but you still need to consider her ties with the man behind the tree and the egg.
i fell like napstablook has higher chance of appearing than undyne since undyne went away to chase the dogs and blooky is still at the police station
undyne only chases the dogs if you interact with her
undying chasing the dogs doesn't happen unless you talk to her and we see her bench pressing cars so she likely caught them instantly
I wonder if not tho that's kinda an interesting thought like what if the Dogs still do escape even if you don't interact with her but since it's at night where all the BIG EVENTS happening she sends Napstablook to investigate in her stead as she goes off into the night to catch the Dogs again? 🤔

If Sans becomes a party member, the fanbase will go CRAZY.
Sans by far has the most connections to DR out of any UT character. (His door, the paps Q&A, his room, lab, and other DR references such as jockington’s hat and word search) If any M.U.T.T is gonna be in the dark world it’s very likely gonna be him, knowing how crazy of a moment it would be I say it’s gonna happen very very late game whenever the gaster stuff starts to take forefront.
His chances of joining the party are actually very small. The game's files have a naming scheme in place for dialogue portraits of characters who can join the party, and Sans's dialogue sprites don't follow that - And they can't be renamed to follow it, because then his dialogue sprites would share a name with Susie's.
He may appear, but he won't actually be in the party.

Even outside of an endgame dark world, I do hope the Gaster followers (and goners by extension) get more elaboration by the end of the game. They seem to be more than just Gaster fragments like a lot of fans assume and clam girl is heavily implied to be straight up from Deltarune in some way. With her referencing Susie and talking to her being what triggers the "don't forget" paper in Sans' hidden lab.
I highly doubt Sans would ever become a party member, but Papyrus is a huge *maybe.* The internet is not ready for a playable Sans. I also don't think Undyne will join. The more likely candidates are characters that aren't connected to Undertale, as to distinguish Deltarune as its own thing, separate from Undertale. I would be interested in seeing Napstablook or side characters from Undertale get more attention.
Lots of interesting points. I can see Rudy joining and being strong, yet unknownly hurting his health thinking its all a dream. As for sans and papyrus. I think papyrus has a big chance to be in a darkworld. However I don't think sans will. Why? I think it's because sans already had the spotlight for so many years. He is the undertale character casual people know. I just don't see toby treading the same ground again. He might be more involved, but as a light world character mostly
If he was ever in a dark world he’d probably play a Almost negligible role
I actually disagree that Berdly is out of the picture. In Snowgrave, his soul was left in the Dark World while his body remained in the Light World. I actually think Berdly could come back alongside Rudy in the hospital, because there's no way nobody's going to check the library closet the next day. He's going to the hospital, and if Rudy is making it, Berdly likely is too. And I'm aware he isn't as important as Noelle, but every route gives him a reason to return to the Dark World.
Pacifist - He wants to be with his friends and probably realize himself more. He may think it's a dream, but he'd at least wanna keep up with the Fun Gang.
Neutral - Berdly is definitely going to be worried about his arm and may have to be hospitalized for that too. I doubt he'd be content just letting everyone else roam while he doesn't have answers about his arm. Going back to the Dark World would answer his questions, even if he just bumbles into Castle Town somehow.
Snowgrave - Here's my hottest take of all. Berdly might be a gateway for Gaster to connect to the real world again. He's definitely going to either be terrified of or incredibly protective of Noelle, and I don't think we actually have enough evidence to say he's dead yet. I think it's likely that he's Fallen Down and that either Gaster or some other force is going to keep him alive.
He's genuinely interesting to consider, and I would place his odds equal to Rudy's. He could be dead, but unless we're explicitly told he is, I don't buy it. Snowgrave worked far differently on Berdly than other enemies, so that's why I'm not convinced he's fully dead.
I’m still subscribed to the “Berdly is Fallen Down in Weird Route” theory, since it seems odd Toby would barely elaborate on it in Undertale (to the point it barely exists as a concept outside of the True Lab storyline)
Both Berdly AND Rudy seem like they could both be good candidates to further explain/introduce the concept in the world of Deltarune

Honestly, I can see one of three things happening with Asriel:
- He comes back, doubts Kris's dark world stories as childish fiction stories, just for The Roaring to suddenly happen, as a comedic timing, proving him wrong.
- Asriel does trust Kris immediately, wanting to go in one to see dragons or something mystical, etc. (given that one piece of art implied in the house)
- Asriel turns out to be Ralsei, given we never see Toriel actually speak to Asriel on-screen, and it turns out Asriel wanted to escape too.
I just know that Jockington is gonna have a banger theme
Most of the gaster followers are based on already existing npcs in Undertale, expect that one bird thing but I don’t believe they are anything new.

Well seemingly so far with a sample of 4 characters it seems that deeply unhappy characters so far go to dark worlds, Kris is deppresed, Susie have home problems to point of neglect, Noelle put on a happy face but clearly worries about her dad and sister, her mother don't seem like a nice character (but i belive she loves Noelle but belives in tough love), Berdly comes more from self loathing, he clings to fame and the idea of being someone he is not.
I 100% belive Noelle will be part of more dark worlds, maybe not chapter 3 but cha 4 onwards, i love having Noelle in the party and i feel devistated she could not join from chapter 1. Fuck Ralsei, Noelle is best White Mage. Kris, Susie, and Noelle best trio we can ask for as players
I 100% agree with the fact that Noelle will return as a party member later on.
Firstly, you can give her weapons and armor, so if she never came back you’d lose the items she has equipped permanently.
Second, Toby going through the effort of adding her as a party member with a ton of animations and unique stats would be pretty disappointing if we only get to see them in a fairly short section of a single chapter

Just because papyrus saw grass doesnt mean anything.we see grass several times in undertale, in both ruins and new home where as papyrus lives in a snowy area where most things wouldnt be able to grow
Its enterly likely they had been in the capitol near the castle where grass WOULD be able to grow
not to sound like a napstablook theory believer but i pretty firmly believe it's gonna be them that answers the call instead of undyne because of the themes of deltarune so far
specifically, the theme of family.
kris, susie, noelle, lancer, and maybe even ralsei if you squint, all have themes of family in their characters. kris has their relationship with asriel and feelings of being overshadowed by him, susie has the implications of a bad home life, noelle has Everything with the holiday family (dess, rudy in the hospital, and she Was scared of her distant mother), lancer has the chaos king, and ralsei is a prince without a family. all of them have *vague* ties to the idea of family, making me think it's gonna be a very prominent theme in deltarune.
and undyne has never been tied to the idea of family. she's always tied to justice and friendship.
but napstablook *is* tied tot his theme of family through their cousins. in undertale, they're all alone and left unhappy at the snail farm because their cousins left them. now, they're living with their cousins and seemingly still unhappy as the seemingly only one of them with a job, providing for all three of them.
or maybe i just really like napstablook and think them and their relationship with mettaton and mad mew mew could be an interesting chapter
Just thinking of it being a tv world, napstablook, like berdly, would fit the world a lot, a lot more than undyne, anyhow, and if the officer that accompanies you being the one to die, it would effect toriel more with napdtablook as being a ghost, only magic can hurt him, meaning her or susie would have to kill him, not kris. Also, the tv connection could explore napstablooks connection to mew mew and mettaton in the ghost house. Both are already linked to tv, now it's blooky's turn.
Wait no, i just had a weird thought, could undertale BE a dark world? With undertale only characters like frisk and chara being either a fractured kris, kris and ralsie, or darkners.

Only one who should be in "Gaster followers lookalike" is Stripped Bird because it's the other way around, Gaster Followers are lookalikes to other monsters. Stripped Bird can be stretched into this category because First we had Gaster Follower than the original monster.
Isn't it weird that of all characters, Q.C is the only character that is considered 'interesting' by the voice in the beginning yet she doesn't have a face sprite? (I mean, so does Gerson, but he's dead, so...)
Will she change in such a drastic way that there would be no point to add a sprite beforehand?
In the files, two characters have the Fun Gang dialogue portrait naming scheme who don't appear in Dark Worlds yet. These are specifically Toriel and Catti. Toriel's were specifically renamed for Deltarune, and weren't named like this back in Undertale's files.
Based on these file names alone, it's INCREDIBLY likely for Toriel and Catti to appear in Dark Worlds as party members. Let alone Toriel being *Right There.*
Jockington, however, does not have this, so... he might end up getting murdered by Catti.
Also worth mentioning, for Noelle, you forgot one detail for her possibility of returning. *The Twisted Sword.* An item that requires the Thorn Ring to craft. She's almost certainly going to show up in another Dark World as a returning party member, even if briefly, for an opportunity to retrieve her ring later on.
A fun idea I had over which police officer will appear in chapter 3, it’s based on whether or not the dogs got loose. If they did, undyne will be too busy going dog-hunting to appear at toriel’s house and napstablook will instead.

I bet the dogs are gonna come in and try to rob their house and get sucked in. then they try to rob the dark world with a flashlight
I feel like Napstablook will show up if you let the dogs out at the end of Ch. 2, and if you didn't, Undyne will show up, as she won't be busy chasing them around. Might be a bit much, but I genuinely believe that the overall story is going to have countless branching paths that all somehow converge at a single ending.
I NEED to be able to have sans as a team member , imagine asking sans to compliment or attack the enemy , that would be the best thing ever

I honestly don’t think any OG Undertale character will be going to the dark world. They are not the main characters anymore. The new characters are the focus. We kind of have to let go of the Undertale characters and just enjoy them still being there.
I don’t know about the dark world, but sans has so many connections to DR, more so than any character aside from gaster, that I definitely see him having some kind of late game importance.

My guesses on the next dark worlds are:
Ch3 - Dreemurr Home - Undyne, Toriel
Ch4 - Church - Alvin, Gerson (resurrected by the dark world but disappears once it's closed
Ch5 - Flower Shop - Asgore, Asriel
Ch6/7 - Roaring - Sans, Papyrus and probably some other UT characters
Chapter 7 will probably be everyone
Gotta be honest I doubt sans or papyrus will be major characters in any chapters since they already got so much attention in Undertale and can’t really grow their character much more.
It would make more sense for chapter 5 to be the church considering that chapter will most likely take place on Sunday.
Plus I think that chapter 4 will be based on less narrative and more character building considering that chapter 3 will most likely be overnight and one of the teased soundtracks is called “hometown day,” which assuming that the soundtrack is important, means that chapter 4 will be focusing on hometown and not the dark world.
@@HyperlaserWasTaken Depends on how you predict the days will be. I personally feel like each Chapter will be a day but, seeing how Chapter 3's dark world does take place pretty early in the day, I wouldn't be shocked if some Chapters are on the same day
I think Asgore has a LOT of potential for exploration. As much as Asgore is an important charachter in Undertale, like Asriel, he barely appears. He only shows up at th very end, in neutral he fights you at the end, destroys your mercy button and is remorseful during the fight, and then he dies. In pacifist he is confronted by the rest of the cast. In genocide he talks about having tea and is OHKO'd. The other things we learn is he: collects the souls, is Asriels dad, is friendly, is the king, is a pushover, and he nominated Alphys as royal scientist. All said by other charachters as foreshadowing
Its criminal how underutilized this guy is in UT, so I hope we learn about him in DR
Pizzapants needs to go to a darkworld to make out with Asriel. It is the only way the story of Deltarune can make sense.

Something to add about the Follower Lookalikes, they aren't even the followers as far as we know, Lookalike 2 appears in Undertale, at Muffets bakesale , you can encounter both Follower 2 and Lookalike 2 in one run.
As for Sans, I'd totally dig a huge joke where Sans is just there but not contributing to the story at all. annoying everyone by acting like he doesn't even notice a difference.
I think mettaton would be one of the characters in the dark world because he doesn't have his confidence or his robot body anymore. He is a ghost again like blooky. Alphys couldnt have made a robot body for him so unless metatton is just completely absent I suspect he would be a surprise appearance with his dark world variant more in tuned to his confidence from undertale and his hometown character less confident.
Dude you're really funny! I enjoyed this video a lot. Personally I'm sort of hoping to see Berdly in a Dark World again, so we might just have to agree to disagree there... I think Berdly's arc isn't quite over yet and he still has a lot of room to grow throughout the story. Plus, he's fun! I'm definitely hoping for Catti and Jockington to be in a dark world some day too.

I’m going to be honest. It’s unlikely, but I REALLY want Mettaton or whatever he’d be called in Deltarune to go to the dark world. I mean, in DR, the voice behind the door (almost DEFINITELY MTT since the house belongs to the ghost family) is most likely a ghost, which isn’t something he wanted (in UT)
It would be interesting if he entered a dark world and got a body similar to MTT EX and… didn’t want to lose that when the fountain was inevitably sealed. This could lead to him either going on to oppose the Fun Gang or just live in Castle Town (which may also have repercussions)
Anyways, I don’t have many ideas where this theory would go, but I honestly just like Mettaton sooooo-

2:41 Isnt true. It's a possibility but I'd like to being up the festival. It seems ro be a major holiday in the town so it'd be likely they'd get off school before it.
What I think would be awesome that if you did snowgrave, Berdly is in the hospital, then end up maybe being in the dark world still but unfrozen. Maybe being a villain even, and it would add more Noelle relevance feeling guilt but she doesn’t know why. (Just something that would be cool)

I could argue that Berdly may actually become a party member at some point. My first piece of evidence is how Berdly actually never gets added to your party even if he is in the adventure for a lot of the time. This gives Berdly more potential for fights, equipment and dialogue. My second piece of evidence is Berdly’s weapon, a halberd or at least that is what it looks like.
Halberds were medieval weapons that specialised in defeating knights and who is the person said to open all these dark fountains that you may oppose in a later chapter? That’s right, The Knight. So overall I will give Berdly a 35% chance because the Delta Warriors may still be able to take down The Knight even without Berdly’s weapon.
What i imagine for chapter 3 is both napstablook and undyne come to the dark world
Undyne will be going off on her own in any non weird route just being strong and fighting
In the weird route (if c3 has one)
She will realize what you are doing and have an actual fight against you and you make some cooked fish
Napstablook i feel will play a small role just being a party member and get some development and he wont see you fight undyne in the potential weird route
It would be interesting to see Napstablook in a darkworld, because then he would have to be an actual character rather than a one note joke.
I think papyrus will come out for the roaring, keeping him as not seeing the sun but still being important

A good rule of thumb IMO is that any character with a character portrait that isnt a character from Undertale (because even if they are very minor character in Deltarune, why not re-use their character portrait?) and is not related directly with another pre-estabilished character akmost garanteed to go to a dark world.

I’d like to imagine if sans was in a deltarune fight he would refuse to fight, spare or defend, and instead of having an act or magic button he’d have a pun button, and when you press it sans tells a skeleton pun.
The pun button would work like the mechanic where if you just spam spare the enemies give up except the pun button would take like 3 times longer and instead of you sparing the enemies the enemies just spare you or leave.
Honestly, while I think that Sans and Papyrus have a lot of important lore yet to be revealed, I also think that the fandom has been very far off the mark about it since 2015, so I'm excited to see what Toby actually does with them.

I think Undertale's characters may only be cameos in the game...Even if I wish they won't. I think Deltarune can be its own game and have great new characters without preventing Undertale's characters to have a role in the story.
I would definitely love to have Sans and Papyrus in a dark world (and, let me dream, as party members !). I really hope we will learn more about the Undertale unsolved mysteries : Gaster, Sans and Papyrus' origins, the machine... I want to know the true about Toby Fox's twitt "Neither of them could fix the machine, no matter how hard they tried".
The characters who have a dialogue icon have increased chances of appearing in the Dark world in my opinion
