If chapter 3 is going to be more focused on gameplay and fun shenanigans, I can kind of understand why Toby wants to release the three next chapters at once rather than individually. Maybe chapter 3 alone isn't that substancial
Maybe it'll be like Undertale's 4th chapter in a way. Important stuff happens but there's a lot of stuff that's just for fun & character development so & it's a slow burn to get to the important stuff that really necessitates the chapter's existence in the story. Edit: Oh, that was mentioned in the video.
Since so far Papyrus is a Shut-In in Deltarune, I think it would be funny if Papyrus not knowing what the sun looked like retroactively became a joke about him not going outside much pre-undertale assuming the bros being from Deltrarune world theory ends up being true.
I know it's been a while since you wrote the comment, but imagine he doesn't know what sun is not only because he didn't go out of the house at all, but also because he was in the 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬 most of the time, like yknow, 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬, I don't say Knight Papyrus theory, honestly I more prefer to think that Papyrus would just enter the dark world in his closet and have fun there hence he doesn't go out of the house at all (why closet? well, in Undertale he says that "There are no Skeletons in my closed! Except me sometimes") and also the fact that he never seen a human, mean that if they are from deltarune, then it means that Papyrus and Kris never met after all
This seems to indicate that papyrus also comes from deltarune, but likely he has amnesia (the memoryheads, dont forget, forgettable... is all connected!) and a theory that I have seen is that sans does not want him to remember his past because (if we follow the theory that papyrus is the knight) because of him the roar happened and almost caused the end of the world, so he doesn't want his brother to feel guilty about it. For me, it would be more interesting if Papyrus remembered tbh, since it would give more depth to his character when he says that everyone can change and be a better person. In addition to that dialogue in which he affirms that he can be a pretty brutal guy. Maybe he is faking that he doesnt remember in front of sans....? Also unrelated, but I love that Undyne wears a skirt in this one. Media tends to portray the stereotype that tough girls hate dresses and I dont like that trope at all xD
The amnesia theory is certainly possible! You bring up interesting points, like the memoryheads and the forgettable text. We'll just have to see where things go, but that's a really interesting interpretation. Agree w/ you with Undyne, too. Tough girls can totally rock masc and fem clothes. xD
i've been thinking along this track for a while now, too. you mostly summed up my thoughts on it, but i have a few other points of speculation: - i feel like knight!papyrus might wind up losing his memory due to a head injury. we see his head dust differently from his body in his death in undertale, so that might have been setup for a later plot point. we also do know that more serious injuries in the dark world can affect one's health in the light world, as we see with berdly's arm. - following this injury, i think it's likely that papyrus will be in the hospital for the rest of the game. the sink in the room rudy isn't in is a callback to papyrus's tall sink (in addition to being a nod to that one fantheory that sans and papyrus are pieces of gaster), so that might also be setup.
@@Dorked I think pulling off feminine clothing takes more skill, and has more pay off, I could put on a pair of ripped jeans, roll around in dirt, and shove myself into a hoodie from 8th grade, BAM acceptable masculine outfit. But a feminine one? As a man, my build I don't think could ever pull it off, I have no hip to work with for skirts, I IMAGINE that I MIGHT be able to force some top to work.. Maybe, but that'd take skill I just wont learn, time to go roll in dirt and shove on my 8 year old t shirt, I think I washed it last week.. Smells alright
My friend actually wrote the "Friend keeping something from you" question, and it is 100% coincidental but I love that it aligns with already existing themes presented in Undertale
About the arms and legs being black on Papyrus, I've honestly just been assuming that he wears a stretchy bodysuit underneath the armor of his battle body.
I like the toby in a massive steamroller about to run over the tv. ever since the sweepstakes it seems everyone wants (presumably) tenna to get crushed for his crimes and I think that’s hilarious
Surely papyrus remembers the Serif, the main sheriff of the world and good friend, and also don't forget Italic! The pizza loving Italian skeleton (he has been under arrest for suspected involvement in the mafia).
My theory is that Papyrus is unknowingly making a meta joke here, since in the Undertale kickstarter rewards video, Papyrus and Sans were in the Ruins, where the patch of green grass is, meaning that Papyrus's memory of being somewhere before Snowdin was just Papyrus's first official appearance in any Undertale media before the game came out.
Yeah, the meta angle is definitely a valid read, but the fact that the question was cut off so abruptly on top of the canon of him having only made the battle body recently does leave the otherworld theory open.
“And if you’re bored, you can sit outside and watch those wacky skeletons do their thing. There’s two of ‘em. Brothers, I think. They just showed up one day and… …asserted themselves. The town has gotten a lot more interesting since then.” -That one bunny shopkeeper
FINALLY, someone mentions Mettaton! I’ve been excited to see if they pop up, especially with all of the TV theme theories popping up. He wouldn’t be able to have the Mettaton NEO, most likely, because that’s pretty much where Spamton went. But I have all kind of cool doodles and theories on how Mettaton may actually be important in the upcoming chapters. Super excited!
@@avalanchetheicewing8153 he's already got dialog. if you go to napstablook's house in hometown and knock on the door you'll hear mettaton speak in both chapters. mad mew mew also has dialog there in chapter 2. the implication is that both of them are still ghosts right now and havent gotten their new bodies. i dont think mettaton will get his new body either because alphys isnt the royal scientist in this timeline, and since she has no reason to make a human fan club in deltarune, shes probably never even met mettaton. plus the dialog that swatch has after the spamton neo fight implies that mettaton had designed his robot body using ms paint but the dream never came true and was abandoned. however in chapter 2 mettaton does ask us to bring him something "tomorrow" so it seems like we'll get a bit more mettaton lore in chapter 3. i doubt it'll be super plot important tho
About the fact that Papyrus doesn’t recognise a human, I would like to mention that it’s entirely possible that he just really hasnt met a human; the only human in deltarune is Kris after all, when we DO finally meet Papyrus in deltarune, I could easily see them doing a joke where Papyrus doesn’t realise that Kris is a human because he’s only ever met monsters. I suppose we’ll just have to wait until chapter 3 to find out.
I can see that. It can even function as a callback to Undertale when he didn't realise Frisk was a human and instead thought the rock behind them was the human.
On the topic of Papyrus having trouble remembering his past. I saw on reddit or tumblr that *Sans* too might have some trouble too with memories. Mostly due to the fact of the picture with 3 badly drawn smiling peoples that say "Don't forget". While he definitly remember more than his younger brother, I think it be very interesting that, if the brother are indeed from Deltarune, the travel to Undertale world caused both of them to be affected by amnesia to various extent. Which could tie with Goner Kid and other Gaster-y elements.
@@gonerdenji another interesting thing is that ralsei doesn't get special dialogue and also never says that hes apart of the legend everyone just assumes he is
@@amagicalbeing7427 I think that's because he's both a Darkner of pure light, and the image that we see when Ralsei is telling us about the Tale of the Delta Rune looks like his cloaked self.
Addition to your notes on Sans' cleanliness, or lack thereof: Papyrus claims he emits slime. That skeleton is noooooot clean. ...Also I forgot that Papyrus has an actual cannon. Initially I thought all of Sans' Gaster Blasters were actually borrowed from Papyrus, which has some VERY exciting implications for my favorite theory, that Papyrus is Gaster, in this essay I will--
@@Dorked Yesterday I just figured out my grand timeline for 'how do I make Papyrus Is Gaster and Papyrus Is The Knight (but Gaster is not the Knight) theory coexist'. It's. Complex and I've probably terribly confused everyone who isn't me with it? XD I feel like it's there's potential and I'd love for it to be accurate, but I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if it turned out to be completely wrong either. Also Underline was such a good comic. I think it was my favorite interpretation of Chara. One of the very few AUs where they aren't a saint or a demon, just. Some kid. A kid who could have been literally anyone, which makes sense with how we're supposed to mistake them for us initially.
@@Halberds8122 I'm pretty sure in some text boxes papyrus sweats, like I remember that vividly, idk if it's true but you should go check all of papyrus dialogue.
On chapter 3 not being story heavy, I feel like its worth considering that chapters 3-5 are being released at the same time. So one of those chapters being a breather with character shenanigans makes a lot of sense.
I Have a theory, I think moving between the worlds causes both of them to loose their memories in a weird way. Papyrus hesitates a ton before mentioning the green grass, and doesn't remember the sun, I have noticed that he mentions the sun in another line of dialogue which is strange. Sans remembers because he has the pictures with "DOn't forget". This fits with the don't forget song. "There's a light inside your soul thats still shining in the cold" - SNowdin. "With the truth, the promise in our hearts, don't forget, i'm with you in the dark". Where would a dark place be? Probably underground. So if they were moving dimensions and forgetting on the way to a cold dark underground place, it would make sense. Idk about sans. He might not want papyrus to remember, theres no way he just coincidentally decided to stop right at the wrong time, and if he wanted papyrus to remember he wouldn't interrupt. I think sans might be hiding the truth from papyrus. He could also not remember toriel fully because of the transfer (He wouldn't have a picture of her with him). Just some random ideas relating to the newsletter.
Yeah, I believe I did touch upon the possibility of amnesia in one of my videos, but if that is the angle Toby is going for, I'm curious how he plans to handle it. The direct ties between UT/DR that would come from this would have fascinating implications, too.
@@Dorked I mean, some files seem somewhat cannon, so it could be something to do with incompatibility issues? Like trying to access non-existant areas. Idk though. It could just be a consequence of multiversal travel or something.
wait its never crossed my mind that the question about a friend keeping something from papyrus might be referring to papryus's "training"... thats an interesting thought!
I agree with you that chapter 3 is like Hotland In waterfall, you are told all about the war and the deltarune, and while you learn a few things in Hotland you don't learn as much about lore as in Waterfall *You learn more about characters*
Not sure if you ever seen the Undertale Bits and Pieces mod, but it actually adds in some cut content. They put the Sans eating ice cream scene while Papyrus is talking and Frisk is behind the conveniently shaped lamp instead of it just being for speed runners.
I'm glad you talked about the rest of the interview (and newsletter) and not just the mysterious green grassᵗᵐ because I love the skelebros dynamic but it got a bit overshadowed by the last question lol. Anyways the last question might be a reference to the kickstarter but that feels weird like it's got a different tone from the rest of the interview which is more comedic idk.
I really liked the Papyrus interview we got, people asked a lot of interesting questions. The last question was definitely the most intriguing, with how it cut off so abruptly... I personally didn't make the connection between the question and the Kickstarter video, my brain just went to the "Sans and Papyrus might be from Deltarune" theory... I don't know what this question might be referring to, but it's very interesting, for sure. In general, this newsletter was great. I liked the sprites in it a lot... and yeah, as you said in the video, Mad Mew Mew's inclusion in a lot of this extra material is awesome. She deserves more recognition, as the conclusion to Mad Dummy's story. Anyways, great video- out of all the things you're currently working on, I'm especially excited for the video about the Neutral route NPC dialogue, as I find the neutral routes really intriguing as a whole, and would really like the content in them to be brought up more by the community.
@@Dorked Honestly I was hoping you'd cover the newsletter since you've made the videos about the Sans and Papyrus are from Deltarune theory, so I was interested to know your thoughts on what the last question could mean... but the neutral route dialogue is definitely a very interesting topic that I'm extremely excited for you to cover. It's gonna be really good for sure.
The one thing with the Sans coming from Deltarune thing I don't get is how he managed to get his whole Judge role and connections in Undertale if he just appeared one day in Snowdin. His connections to Alphys and probably Asgore as well as his general understanding of the 'rules' for lack of a better term as seen in Judgement Hall, especially on a No Mercy route are a lot to establish in the relatively short time (i.e. monster's living memory) that he would have been in the Underground.
See, I don't think Sans is a formal judge. Like I don't think that's his job. He clearly knows most people in the underground, but most of his jobs are things like being a comedian, a sentry, etc. Sans knows a lot, but he also clearly has a history in the sciences.
@@Dorked yeah I can see that with the judge thing but even so it's still a lot to do especially as Snowdin is one of the more isolated locations in the Underground.
Maybe he’s self appointed, like nobody knows he’s over there except you, because he made it his job to judge _you_ specifically. He’s a judge to no one else. Maybe out of a combination of his original job he was supposedly keen on in killing you, and also from the promise he made to Toriel, being more like “Let’s see how it goes”. He’s doing the job specifically for you, because he doesn’t need to do it for anyone else. Who else is he even gonna judge? Flowey? He’ll probably attack and kill Flowey outright, he never made a promise to look after Flowey. No he promised to watch out for the human, and so he’s kinda gambling on you and the promise, and he made what was once just, The Hall, into The Judgement Hall, because that’s where _he_ is going to judge _you,_ and see if he made the right bet on promising not to hurt you. You notice he never actually protects you, because he doesn’t need to, he knows you’ll always come back, (🟣🧍♂️jumpscare) he just usually steps in and tells you off when you do something off. His promise was basically “I won’t try to stop them. I’ll just see where it goes” and only in the most extreme circumstances will he break that promise. He puts himself at The Judgement Hall, because that is right before the end, when he’s already seen everything you’ve done, and chooses to judge you, judge if he would be justified in breaking the promise here, because that’s right up to all he’ll let happen because of that promise. So either it’ll all work out, before why not, it just might, or it’s to hell with that promise, the promise that let the worst case scenario happen, and to hell with you.
There's a fascinating aspect of this "Chapter 3 will be less plot-heavy" concept, because a theory of mine actually predicts this should be the case. So that's pretty fun. It goes like this: Ralsei claims that Darkners are influenced by the "Will of their Fountain". And I daresay it's fair to assume that this translates to "The will of the person who created that fountain, when they made it". Which means we should see signs that the Darkners within are influenced by the Knight. And we DO. Specifically, the leaders of both the Ch 1 and 2 fountains, King and Queen, are said to have changed suddenly when the fountain opened, and they both talk at length about their approval of the Knight. If this pattern continues, the leader of this new fountain should likewise have their will suddenly changed to match the will of the person who created the fountain...which is Kris. (And if the "Jevil predicted Queen" pattern holds, this person will be Tenna, the television set that controls all the shows within the TV dark world, including canceling Spamton's commericals.) From all this, we have the perfect setup to answer the age-old question: Is Kris the Knight? We can answer this by asking "Is Tenna's change consistent with King's and Queen's changes?" If yes, suddenly the finger is pointed straight at Kris. And if not, they're borderline exonerated, and we can get a look at what their goal in opening this fountain was by what Tenna suddenly wants to do. By this logic we see that the idea of chapter 3 being less plot-heavy ALREADY points towards a non-Knight Kris, since the plot is driven by the Knight's fountains. But until I've seen the game, I won't go assuming we've already resolved the issue. We haven't. Note that this approach isn't absolute or foolproof by any means. A non-Knight Kris might intentionally make the fountain look like the Knight's fountains so that they have a proper villain to fight, if their motivation is "keep having fun in the Dark Worlds". And a Knight Kris might be well aware that the SOUL, us the player, knows they made this one, and as such would intentionally make it different to throw us off the trail. These options _do_ exist, but I'd still say each outcome supports their respective conclusions by a fairly large amount. Just not 100%.
If it does end up that Undertale Papyrus is the same as Deltarune Papyrus, that brings up so many questions. Mainly on how Papyrus has managed to keep that a secret from everyone. Especially with Flowey. I can't imagine Papyrus keeping anything from Flowey. He's willing to arrange the Pacifist ending rendezvous at his request, he considers Flowey to be one of his best friends. Of course if he somehow doesn't remember Deltarune that just brings up further questions
this is the biggest lore drop ever because it confirms that toby fox remembers papyruss cool song pleas toby release the song officially i beg i love cuicas
Honestly, the Papyrus interview was a fun time in general; being one of my favorite UNDERTALE characters, how could I not enjoy it? The possible lore implications are just the icing on the cake here.
13:40 A good example might be that episode of Helluva Boss that was recently released, S1E8. The creator said almost the exact same thing when she ended up having to skip it and release S2E1 months ago, that it was mostly about the spectacle and light on plot elements. What ended up being in the episode was some fantastic context for recent events, a spotlight for a character that needed some love, and a few bits and pieces of the broader world’s lore and rules added in. I think that’s a good baseline for how much we can expect. 3 will probably be the chapter where we dive into Kris’ character and past while avoiding the big questions surrounding them.
7:09 I like comparing Sans less so to Ford Pines from Gravity Falls and more like Stan Pines Mostly a stinky goofball played off as comedy relief who has a darker side that’s sometimes shown, but never overshadows the goofball part
this kind of stuff from toby make me feel more and more that papyrus and friends are real people they feel that way to me, i guess i dont know how to describe it
The more we progress, the closer we get to The Deltarune Skelebrothers Skeleshow propaganda. Also I didn't even notice the training with the battle body thingy, wonder if it's an actual thing going for Paps or if it's just a silly little reference.
@@kau_for_thee_8567 I show it in the video briefly! In the Sans casino dialogue, he mentions Papyrus' beautification process and how he has a hyperbolic cucumber chamber, a reference to the hyperbolic time chamber.
@@Dorked Oh ok, didn't got into that part of the video yet. Toby is possibly building Paps as a menace, yet we can't even be sure if he's serious or not.
13:50 As if my theory on televised programs being the connection between Hotland and Chapter 3 wasn't strong enough for my Mirrored Journey Theory. I wouldn't expect *no* lore though - Remember, The start of Hotland is the general area of the true lab, and that would mean we'll have probably get a bigger picture on what the goal of gathering the shadow crystals is for. It'd line up with the shadow mantle being necessary to stand a chance against the next optional boss as said by Seam - The amalgams perpetually kept alive through determination, so what would be the Deltarune equivalent to burning determination? Naturally, we look to the source of saving in the two worlds - Blinding light. Only question is, what could Mike be that shines like a light and can be blocked out by a small black pocket cloth?
@superlagbro192 A interesting idea if Noelle was in Chapter 3. 2 problems with that: 1) I find it hard to believe a solid box would become a mantle, which is a type of long cloak. 2) Because Noelle isn't part of Chapter 3, I find it hard to believe Toby would design a boss after the very weapon type Noelle uses, since that kind of similarity could be better used to enhance a narrative connection between Noelle and a wedding ring darkner.
@@drakath5727 While Noelle is associated with rings, it would be odd for one character to have a monopoly on that imagery, especially when the thorn ring is originally from Spamton. The wedding imagery would more likely be for Toriel and Asgore since their separation is such a big mystery and could be related to Noelle's sister going missing. Plus their separation affected the family to the point that some people theorise Kris opened a fountain just to force character development for Toriel and to hopefully repair Kris' relationship with her. Thus it would work great for ch3 to have a wedding ring representing the unresolved trauma of the divorce that Toriel has to look past in order to see the family right in front of her
I wonder if the reason Sans wrote "Don't forget." is because he knows time shenanigans can lead to memory loss & the reason he helped you find it is so you can remember it for him if you reset too far since he's not sure what you're doing or why. For some reason, I always did think of that bird at Grillby's as female. Maybe just something about how she talks? I don't know.
i know you might not see this, but i love watching your videos! they inspire me to talk about my theories and ideas with the deltarune/undertale community!
The thing about the question about keeping things from papyrus, when he says “Keeping… something… from me?” He’s sweating. I think he understands the question just fine… what I don’t know is, does he very deliberately seek out an alternate meaning and then answer that instead, or does he come up with it and immediately seize upon it as an explanation, convincing himself that *of course* they didn’t mean it the other way? (The difference being the degree of self-deception.)
Counter argement against sans smelling like sweat: Monsters are only shown to sweat when under physical stress, Sans never stresses and is generally lazy Therefore he does not smell like sweat Would've said skeletons cant sweat but sans does so in his fight
The Sans ice cream scene reminds me of [Small spoiler for The Stanley Parable] when in The Stanley Parable, if you enter the super secret code in the boss's office before The Narrator finishes telling you what it is, he plays music for a minute before opening the hidden door.
19:39 Wait, people thought that bird was a guy?? I always thought that was a lady, she just gave off "gossiping old woman" vibes to me, I never saw her as anything else
I think there's this tendency for people to assume male is the default on a character unless the gender is otherwise revealed, but gossiping old lady is a fun archetype anyway.
@@Dorked that's fair, I used to have the tendancy to do the opposite actually, I'd tend to think gender neutral were female unless stated otherwise. I was honestly just surprised to hear people thought she was a guy, but I guess that's coz she's not a main or super memorable side character, so I've just never seen her discussed at all in the small fan spaces I've dipped into. At least with the new info Toby has released on her character and the others people have more to work with now if they want, so that's nice
16:00 I didn't know this happened usually with other people as well :') I may don't post music quite often, and I'm not a professional. However, with my current experience, I can say that it is difficult to understand many factors that *must* fit in a certain scene while trying to make it sound good. Which genre? What tempo? Which Leitmotifs? What chord progression? It's a bit overwhelming when you learn on your own, but not impossible. Cheers to all the people who learn on their own and learn from their mistakes!
Wow this is sooo wholesome. Also with flowey knowing Papyrus's favorite food, it's sweet. Maybe Flowey has no love, but he still cared about Papyrus and had a soft spot for him, even though he wasn't always great with him.
tbh, it would make sense if toby had the idea to do the Q&A specifically to foreshadow and tease chapter 3, knowing that someone would DEFINITELY ask the snowdin question. and then leaving the question unanswered to tease us and plant that mystery in our minds. pretty genius imo. I think this is definitely gonna be a plot point in the next deltarune chapter 👀
I'm glad you make these videos, because despite being signed up to the truck freak tier of the newsletter I never receive any of the newsletter emails. no idea why
I'm sure they came from another world, but probably not deltarune's world. Sans winks at Kris when he says he never met them in his life, implying he's at least still aware of the resets in this world and at most, is aware of the player and that they've met in another timeline
Dorked, I need you to understand that you putting that picture up at 6:35 made me lose my breath in laughter for over 34 seconds atleast. No one has ever made me laugh that hard, and that was simply because you caught me off guard with it.
6:05 Kiwi is tart like pineapple, so yeah it works probably. Also corn works really well as a nice starchy topping, but mayonnaise I don’t get & mixing kiwi & Mayo just sounds gross to me.
Hm, how very interesting, i wonder what we’ll get next, actually when do you think we get something next? Anyway, I really appreciate this Video and look forward to see any new Videos from you Undertale/Deltarune or otherwise.
Did we ever Inspect Element the newsletter at all? We gotta be like the FNAF fandom, gotta check everything. URLS, Image names, Raising contrast and brightness, dont leave anything unchecked.
14:15 I've come to theorize that Kris is only opening the fountain because it made the others happy, as stated after the queen fight, despite the warnings. It wouldn't be the first time kris acted on their own for that purpose.
Well for last year's Let Papyrus Say Fuck Day event I made an additional campaign to bring back the discontinued Cool Dude shirt which worked and the new version of the shirt has a secret Papyrus on the inside that is saying "FUNK!" and since Toby works very closely with the people at fangamer, I think there's a possibility. Also I saw several people say they asked if he swears. XD The truth is out there.
i do wanna mention that just because chapter 3 is only just finishing up doesnt mean that the other chapters still have a really long way to go or anything, right? like, if they're working on the chapters in tandem, there's probably a decent chunk of ch.4/5 mostly done. i think this fall probably is a bit too optimistic with the info that they're only just finishing ch.3, but it might not take another whole year and a half or anything.
I saw a Mew Mew cosplayer at Smash Sydney last Saturday. I didn’t get a chance to ask them tho if they were Mew Mew or Mad Mew, but what does it matter lol they could say they’re both. I really like the mew mew characters design and I hope we see them more
if sans and papyrus came from deltarune, and if sans said that papyrus never saw a human before in undertale, that unfortunately means we wont see the cool dude himself in deltarune :(
That, or it's just an excuse since a human hasn't fallen in a while. It really depends, because I can see the bros feigning ignorance to "fit in," tho some also suspect amnesia Papyrus.
im still kind of convinced sans and papyrus are literally from the universe of the comic helvetica given they were clearly originally envisioned as joke characters to poke fun at toby’s friend’s comic
I found smth interesting don't know if it's old info but in the papyrus date in Undertale if you interact with his bed he mentions his dream where he drives his race car bed down a highway wind is flowing and the sun is on his skin. But in the pacifist ending he doesn't know what the sun is he even asks sans. Maybe something toby didint notice when making the game or it's something deeper.

Yeah, it's too early to say, but I think he really wants the next release to be worth the wait, and I think that's really respectable.
i agree with galxie's take: toby is simply lying
Maybe it'll be like Undertale's 4th chapter in a way. Important stuff happens but there's a lot of stuff that's just for fun & character development so & it's a slow burn to get to the important stuff that really necessitates the chapter's existence in the story.
Edit: Oh, that was mentioned in the video.
Nah, I don't think he's lying. Toby already said the next update won't be free, so he wants the new content to be worth the price.
I don't think he's lying but idk about Chapter 3 not having much story when it's the chapter where Kris creates a fountain.
Since so far Papyrus is a Shut-In in Deltarune, I think it would be funny if Papyrus not knowing what the sun looked like retroactively became a joke about him not going outside much pre-undertale assuming the bros being from Deltrarune world theory ends up being true.
The grilbys building is obviously from Undertale so who knows
I know it's been a while since you wrote the comment, but imagine he doesn't know what sun is not only because he didn't go out of the house at all, but also because he was in the 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬 most of the time, like yknow, 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬, I don't say Knight Papyrus theory, honestly I more prefer to think that Papyrus would just enter the dark world in his closet and have fun there hence he doesn't go out of the house at all (why closet? well, in Undertale he says that "There are no Skeletons in my closed! Except me sometimes")
and also the fact that he never seen a human, mean that if they are from deltarune, then it means that Papyrus and Kris never met after all
This seems to indicate that papyrus also comes from deltarune, but likely he has amnesia (the memoryheads, dont forget, forgettable... is all connected!) and a theory that I have seen is that sans does not want him to remember his past because (if we follow the theory that papyrus is the knight) because of him the roar happened and almost caused the end of the world, so he doesn't want his brother to feel guilty about it.
Tough girls can totally rock masc and fem clothes. xD
i've been thinking along this track for a while now, too. you mostly summed up my thoughts on it, but i have a few other points of speculation:
- i feel like knight!papyrus might wind up losing his memory due to a head injury. we see his head dust differently from his body in his death in undertale, so that might have been setup for a later plot point. we also do know that more serious injuries in the dark world can affect one's health in the light world, as we see with berdly's arm.
He might've just never left the house lol

He is probably the Judge Jury of The Underground, @@redactedoktor and he was probably appointed by Asgore to Judge possibly evil people.
The fact Toby's creative process needs story context explains so much about his penchant for leitmotifs too.
6:09 I believe corn and mayonnaise is a popular pizza topping combination in Japan, so it's a little nod to the Japanese fandom
Oh, huh! That's actually really neat. I had no idea.
When I was in Japan like 30 years ago, the sheer existence of corn and mayonnaise pizza was one of my most vivid memories. No I did not try it.
(And if the "Jevil predicted Queen" pattern holds, this person will be Tenna, the television set that controls all the shows within the TV dark world, including canceling Spamton's commericals.)
From all this, we have the perfect setup to answer the age-old question: Is Kris the Knight?

The reversed journey theory is a very convincing theory I got to admit.
A wedding ring? The diamond would presumably be pretty shiny, and maybe the shadow mantle is the box the ring came in.

12:00
… I’ve literally never heard anyone with that problem
16:00
I didn't know this happened usually with other people as well :')
I may don't post music quite often, and I'm not a professional.
PAPYRUS'S PIZZA OPINIONS ARE SO BASED
I'd love to hear your thoughts on future newsletters when they release aswell!
I'll consider it! Especially since the next one should arrive around UT's anniversary.
you say there ain't no lore in hotland, but every gaster thing outside of goner kid and mystery man is there.
Those are optional, rng events that mean little to the main Undertale story and more to Deltarune in all likelihood.
Sans actually eating mayonase?!?!? Fandom is in shambles! (also more papyrus neurodivergent REALLLL EVEN MORE REASONS TO BELIEVE HE IS NEURODIVERGENT)
I, for one, am glad Mew Mew is getting appearances as a certified Mad Mew Mew enjoyer.
Queen: Potassium!
Papyrus: Calcium!
Wow this is sooo wholesome. Also with flowey knowing Papyrus's favorite food, it's sweet. Maybe Flowey has no love, but he still cared about Papyrus and had a soft spot for him, even though he wasn't always great with him.
your video was my first thought when reading the "keeping something from you" question
tbh, it would make sense if toby had the idea to do the Q&A specifically to foreshadow and tease chapter 3, knowing that someone would DEFINITELY ask the snowdin question. and then leaving the question unanswered to tease us and plant that mystery in our minds. pretty genius imo. I think this is definitely gonna be a plot point in the next deltarune chapter 👀
I'm glad you make these videos, because despite being signed up to the truck freak tier of the newsletter I never receive any of the newsletter emails. no idea why
Same, I don't get notified, but it's bc mine get auto stuffed into the "promotions" tab, so maybe check if you have something similar?
I'm sure they came from another world, but probably not deltarune's world. Sans winks at Kris when he says he never met them in his life, implying he's at least still aware of the resets in this world and at most, is aware of the player and that they've met in another timeline
Someone mentioned you on shorts, and that made me remember the one time I uploaded your music, on my channel, that was so long ago man
btw I credited him too, he just didn't like me reposting it
I hope 3D Toriel makes it into the kickflip video.
7:38 Sans is sweaty and he smells like mom's spagheti
And thanks a lot for deltarune content, I love watching videos like this
❤
holy shit my uncle arron tweet made it into a video
I could not resist the funny that is the Uncle Aaron meme. xD
Did we ever Inspect Element the newsletter at all?
We gotta be like the FNAF fandom, gotta check everything. URLS, Image names, Raising contrast and brightness, dont leave anything unchecked.
so hyped for the reveal that papyrus canonically fucking reeks of mayo
Papyrus is just a dang, genuine great guy
what a dang rad peep
Thank you Dorked from UA-cam
There's no need to apologize for an improvised video, that's simply doing it the Papyrus way!
8:56 I have a feeling its a reference to the "Sans is Ness" theory as Onett has Green grass.
been asking around where this papyrus has come from since hes in both games, hoping for a definitive answer.
14:15
I've come to theorize that Kris is only opening the fountain because it made the others happy, as stated after the queen fight, despite the warnings. It wouldn't be the first time kris acted on their own for that purpose.
I was actually wondering yesterday if Toby knows about Let Papyrus Say ____ Day. So... maybe?
"pineapple i understand-"
aaaand there comes the roman legions going to Papayrus and Dorky's houses to punish them
14:34 Wow that's E is for from Okay, I think that's what music is.
we need a condiments tier list from sans.
I can't believe this confirms sans is a gamer
im still kind of convinced sans and papyrus are literally from the universe of the comic helvetica given they were clearly originally envisioned as joke characters to poke fun at toby’s friend’s comic
Man. I have an incredibly huge feeling Chapters 3-5 will be released in 2024. Plus will continue the 3 year wait between the chapters trope.
.. So that means the game will be finished in 2027. Wow.
8:17 I think the black stuff on his arm is Sleeves
Best theory;
Kris isn't the knight,
they just hit the gas line in the floor.
Maybe Papyrus hasn’t seen any humans because he’s a shut-in in Deltarune and thus he will never see a human in Deltarune
I always thought undertale and deltarune used to be one world. That it wasn’t that the machine in the workshop was broken, the world was.
Did Toby really voice Queen? I thought that was a joke.
WHAT? THAT'S A THING?
We are finally gonna hear Papyrus’ canon voice.
