Before I even watch the video, I'll answer. So good that despite being injured like 35% of the time, he finished with 630 homeruns and 10 straight gold gloves. Legitimately one of the best players the game has ever seen, without question.
Even with all of the injuries, Ken Griffey Jr. is still in the conversation for greatest player of all time. Power, contact, speed, defense, baseball IQ, he had it all. Of course, staying healthy is something that every professional athlete has to be concerned with if they want to have a long career. What if? If he had stayed healthy 800 home runs? You also have to remember that his stats were overshadowed by the “steroid era”. While he was putting up 50 home run seasons, other guys were putting up 60 and 70 homers.
Ken Griffey Jr was a beast he was my favorite player even tho Ive always been a Phillies fan everytime I could watch him play I never missed it....Its got to be awsome to play with your dad in the pros and share the outfield together....Much Love to my favorite player of all time....❤❤❤❤
My favorite player. He was amazing. All talent,no drugs,no steroids, no parting,no negative stories,no trouble on or off the field. He was just a awesome guy that played awesome baseball. You won't see someone like that play the game like he did.
Junior will always be my favorite player in any sport. I just loved watching him play. Not just the talent, which was immense, but also the joy, the passion, and the class. I never held it against him for wanting to play for the Reds. It was his love for his family and of the game that led him to go, not chasing fame or the big payday. I’m still angry at the jackasses that spewed poison at him when he left Seattle.
Wait?? he's a pilot too!!?? I'm down in the Kissimmee/Orlando area and I have a plane here as well. Now I need to listen for him to see if he's on the radio. I wonder if he keeps his plane up at Orlando Executive or somewhere else. How cool is that. I still have his Upper Deck Rookie card in a hard case upstairs.
Crazy what he was able to accomplish in his career while missing the equivalent of 2.5 full seasons. His blessing, and his curse, is that he was such a natural. Never really worked out or stretched, and that caught up to him later on. Like the complete opposite of Ichiro as far as taking care of himself. But man what an amazing God-given talent. And that SWING, my goodness
My family mlb team is the mariners and Griffry jr. was my favorite player.🙂 Sadly, the same year that he retired, was the sudden death of Dave Niehaus.😇 He is now a mariners spirit.
An interesting thing about his contract with the Reds was that they deferred his contract, which meant they were paying him through 2024 and that year he was the third highest paid player on the team despite having been retired for for some 15 years by then.
Chris he's remembered just fine in Seattle. Don't you ever forget that either.Like somebody said it wasn't for him and Edgar there wouldn't be baseball in freaking Seattle. If you live in Seattle you know that And if you don't you ought to
In fairness, there will never be a single GOAT of baseball. Some were great at certain things, others were great at other things, some played at different time periods, etc. But I think we can all agree that Griffey is absolutely one of the best players to ever play.
Ken Griffey jr went h.a.m. on some baseballs in his prime.sucks he got injured and also went to Cincinnati.mariners would def won a ring had he stayed!!!
Everything after his trade to the Reds is irrelevant and deserves to be forgotten. Griffey was already a Hall of Famer with his time with the Mariners and will always be a Mariner. His time as a Red/White Sox was a stain on his career.
@walterbison. If Seattle have paid him better he wouldn't have gone anywhere. And on his hall of fame plaque it says every team he ever played for But you know what as I do he went in as a Mariner.
@@rolandmiller5456 I don’t think it was just money. He also hated the then-new Safeco Field (ironically called The House That Griffey Built) because he couldn’t hit home runs as easily as he could in the Kingdome. He was on pace to be the career HR leader but he took awful care of himself. Bit him in the ass by his early 30s
I was nine his rookie year. Got all his cards and a lot more random stuff. Favorite player to this day just all around. Had the smoothest swing. Plus, a little cherry on top is he very much 👎 the yankees. No steroids either.
I didn't watch the video but , I'm commenting on the thumbnail title ; I don't know what his final numbers were but to watch him play (especially defense) you'd think you were watching Mays or Clemente. He outright robbed guys of home runs it seemed every game.
Some of the best catches (at least 4 HR robbed) and throw outs. I'd say the best all around outfielder. Only Bo had the degree of athleticism but Ken was much smoother.
Even BEFORE Barry pumped himself up on ‘roids? And I know the title asks how good of a player Griffey was, but he’s also 10 times the person that Bonds is.

Career. 284 B.A W/his 600 + home rus.
Dude, growing up, Griffey Jr was one of my favorite players. Even looking back as an adult, 90s MLB was really magical.

I just met Ken last night at my job.
Hilarious that this popped up on my algo right after my mariners got eliminated. Great video great editing man
This is amazing! I love the way documentary meets sports. Ken Griffey Jr. is not The Kid, he is The GOAT. Nice one 😆
As A Kid Jose Canseco Was My Favorite Player, But As Soon I Hit Them Teenage Year's
Barry Bonds & Ken Griffey Jr Were My Favorite.
Same here..
He was baseball in its purest form. Miss them 90s
Absolutely beautiful swing
My favorite player. He was amazing. All talent,no drugs,no steroids, no parting,no negative stories,no trouble on or off the field. He was just a awesome guy that played awesome baseball. You won't see someone like that play the game like he did.
Ever since I saw Griffey hit two home runs against the #Giants in 2004, he has been my all-time favorite player.

Jr was my dad’s inspiration growing up. My dad played centerfield (after him) and even switched to lefty (after him).
Take away the injuries and if he stayed in shape better Ken Griffey Jr. Would of been the greatest HR and hitter of all time.

Ken Griffey jr was honestly the coolest and most smooth baseball player ever.
Great video!
THE GOAT
Prettiest swing in baseball history
For the cars in, the car ad, "you can't them."!!!!!!
How Good best I have ever seen and I’ve watched a lot of baseball
The title should say how great was he actually
The GOAT!
Nice
If only he'd have left Seattle for a winner. Be remembered differently
He was loyal to his city. Got to respect it
Seattle loves him. Baseball is a different game, we respect him. Without JR T-Mobile park doesn’t exist
Chris he's remembered just fine in Seattle. Don't you ever forget that either.Like somebody said it wasn't for him and Edgar there wouldn't be baseball in freaking Seattle.
If you live in Seattle you know that And if you don't you ought to
"The Kid" was the man
Jr was the player that other big leaguers would pay to watch play!
Only thing that keeps him from being the GOAT , is not having 3000 hits . Injuries really took a toll on his career
In fairness, there will never be a single GOAT of baseball. Some were great at certain things, others were great at other things, some played at different time periods, etc. But I think we can all agree that Griffey is absolutely one of the best players to ever play.

Going to Cincy was a HUGE mistake
Seattle didn't pay him.
Might have been the best all time if not for injuries. ⚾️
I lost respect for Griffey when he didn't laugh at Norms O.J. joke.
I like him more!#FBA
No, you don't.@@Rah-m1i
@
That's all right ken griffey doesn't need your damn respect anyway. And neither does the rest of the world for that matter
How great? He was THE greatest.
If Griffey had juiced he would have hit 80
@Jeremy.
If he'd stayed healthy he might have hit 80And if he'd been in a better ballpark.
Everything after his trade to the Reds is irrelevant and deserves to be forgotten. Griffey was already a Hall of Famer with his time with the Mariners and will always be a Mariner. His time as a Red/White Sox was a stain on his career.

Yep.
Dude played one year with his father.... cool
And hit back to back HRs with him!
Great, but bonds was better
Even BEFORE Barry pumped himself up on ‘roids? And I know the title asks how good of a player Griffey was, but he’s also 10 times the person that Bonds is.
