Got my TK20R V2 about a week ago. I'm just now seeing your video, and I got to say, I'm feeling pretty good about my purchase. Great video and very informative. Thanks, for making my day.
I just got mine now, and I'm a little "Meh..." over it. It's not a bad light, it works, but the cycling button is way too sensitive for my taste, if I even brush it when turning the light on it switch mode. Wouldn't have mind if it took a wee bit more pressure to cycle. And the beam profile is ok-ish but for my personal preference I'd rather go with my PD40R V3. All-in-all, I don't regret getting this one, but I'm not going to recommend it to everyone I know.
GOOD VIDEO! Not TOO much frivolous yack'n. SUGGESTION: Upgrade for your flashlight if you still have it. Where the battery indicator light is, mark where the bulb is, close the cover, mark the cover & drill a small hole through said cover. Then using a bit of 2 part epoxy fill that hole. For those who don't want to see the light (hunters) drill that hole 1/2" (inch) past (right) of the hole. That way a very small turn will show the light. In my experience with O-Rings they wear or compress, hence the reason for 1/2".
I miss the cooler white on the Fenix lights. I thought that the warmer white would be superior but I was wrong. Cooler white on those older models, provided an easy for the eye view, that it was so lovely when I was walking out in the dark trails! Difference may sound little to someone who hasn't tried both, but it is huge for me. I also liked way more, the longer runtimes, and the robustness and fit and finish of the older models. My LD 12 had seen so much abuse, that I can't believe It would last all those years, working and looking as day one!!! It had hundreds of falls, either from my pocket or hands to the ground, or from way higher places, like the balcony to the street, which actually happened, the first day I got it!! It didn't even had a scratch on the finish!!! Now ,I read complaints, that they break sometimes with just one fall to the ground... sure thing is, they don't last as the old ones, and that's true, for their runtimes that I checked...The older the better I guess, is a quote, that has to do with all gear and tools.
Really interesting light, but being in Sweden I may have to wait a year or two before version 2.0 is available at a normal price. At the moment I can spend the equivalent of $130 (not counting shipping) for the 1000 lm version..
Awesome videos! Thank you for putting in the work! I noticed the drop time from turbo was longer outdoors. Not significantly but still longer. 49 secs to be exact. I might get a minute out of it up here in Canada. 😉
It’s just a better over all light that feels more like a tac/self defense light than this “multi purpose” tac light. I think the beam profile is slightly better. The bezel is far better. But I did a whole video on the TK16 v2. Watch that. 👍🏻
I want the USB-C port covered because I climb around in muddy areas for work so I needed this one over the other cool smaller one I think I like better. Don't forget if you use his link they will engrave a cool picture and customized wording on this for free!!!! I love bass fishing so that was extra cool!
These videos are fantastic. I'm trying to decide between the Tk20r v2 and the pd40r. v3 I would love some intput.. I use these lights for 4 months of the year (spring/summer/fall) to walk the desert looking for nocturnal reptiles/amphibians. I need a bit of spill but mostly looking for the best runtime at 1000 lumens, which seems to be 3 hours on average. (not great but acceptable). I have other fenix lights just looking for a new one for my birthday. Thank you for the input! (Also sorry, heat is a factor. I don't plan to use turbo, so whichever is coolest and longest run time at around 1k lumens is fantastic).
Good review. I found it interesting that even though the TK20 has better battery life, a longer throw and an led battery life indicator (albeit covered) which the TK16 does not have, you still preferred the TK16. How 'bout the spill ? Did you feel it was better with the TK16 ?
I picked this bad boy up after watching your vid brother!! This is a sick torch!! The hidden charging port is slick as hell and beats a cheap ass rubber flap any day!! The only thing thats lame is they removed the glass breaker striking points!! WTF?? Put em back on Fenix!! Other than that this thing is built like a freakin tank!! BOOM🤘
I also agree with you on the moon mode! 30 lumens may not be that bright but a 1-2 lumen mode is great for reading things up close and will preserve your night vision and also be less likely to give your position away!!
My Fenix TK 20R V2 worked for about 40 hours. Cannot change the beam power, it will not fully charge . This torch let us down when we were out on the river late at night. Very expensive mistake .
Brother, mine locks down to 3 modes only eco, low , med as soon the battery indicator starts showing red light. I cannot access high and turbo when battery indicator is constant red. It is still 50%, half of backup is available. Is it the same case with yours.
Thanks for the review. Is the back of the holster MOLLE compatible? If instead it is designed for a belt, is it held by velcro, a button or permanently sewn? Thanks!
I hate these flashlights that have a huge output but can only sustain it for a few seconds.. or have a giant gap between output modes. 1000 -3000 is ridiculous. A flashlight of this size with the current technology should be around 2100 lumens max.
Do you like this or the TK16v2 better? I have the TK16v2 coming today and wondering if I should have gotten this one instead. The bit longer throw is kind of nice. I see the 20 is a bit heavier and longer though.
It depends how you use a light. I use 'em for dog walks. You don't need 3k lumens for the normal walk but medium is enough. But if you wanna check out something in the distance quickly, then you are happy if you get a powerful mode. I only need that for a couple of seconds and then can go back to a medium mode. It's like a car accelerating 0-60 in 4 seconds. You don't need that every time but you will be happy if you can ;)
When it drops down at 43 seconds .. can you hit it straight back to turbo for another 43 seconds. I realize that you don't want to overdo it. I wonder if it is a programmed 43 seconds. That would be good.
Lying on a table decrease air cooling. Is turbo mode time much increased when a flashlight is in your hand and head isn't covered? (Had to be same wind/temperature conditions for adequate comparison.)
All of these Flashlight manufacturers give the same inflated run times on turbo for their flashlights. Flat out misrepresentations. I was really interested in purchasing that light since I love my PD36R. But with the short run time on turbo and the awkward charging port that hides the state of charge indicator... Think I'll take a pass on this one. Thanks for your review.
i have a pd36r and the rubber flap tore out in a year., and before it broke of it also stretched or something as it wouldn't even fit/close properly anymore. Was not possible to get it replaced, at least the port itself is still waterproof, but now its going to get filled with dust. I'm probably going to get this tk20r at somepoint. I just wish you could also use the port to discharge the light into a phone or watever to be able to use it as a powerbanck.
@@ShadowWhippler how dirty does your cell phone charge port get? I've never seen one come with a cover from the factory. The only port cover we have are from certain cases. I always worried about my light getting dirty too, but have never had an issue from ripping my cover off of my PD36R 😊

Can you compare the beam shot with olight warrior x 3?? They run same led sft70.
the beam of the x3 is a bit more bright but the one of the tk20r is bigger, if you want to use it for self defense purpose, you should buy they tk20r

Yes sir! It’s already recorded and will be releasing shortly within a few days.

It's a shame it can't throw properly.
Do you know of flashlight which is comparable in size and does not waste light when it throws?
How is it molle compatible ?
Why is it so much heavier than the TK 16 ?
Great flashlight. Anyone found a good holster for it? The one that comes with it is definitely crap.
