I respect all three factions equally. I know they all have their good intentions and I know the things that would drive some people away from their faction. I like that dead orbit doesn't sugar coat the possibility that the darkness will keep growing but their a little to disrespectful towards the vanguards and seem like there's no hope if they stay at the tower and eventually die. I like that new monarchy isn't as negative believing that there's hope at the tower they try to save what they stand for and not letting go of their home places so easily. But their last consensus sounds like to much dictatorship and with that power new monarchy could have complete control of the citizens who represent them besides that new monarchy sounds cool to me. Fwc is misunderstood in my opinion and should have the vanguards or someone try to understand why they believe in what they believe so they can better help the city.
I'm really enjoying these lore videos Byf! A lot of people kinda just read the grimoire but you add so much personality to these different characters and you're a lot more analytical with what the grimoire is saying. I look forward for more!
As a FWC High Member(i got the ship, the Exotic Bond, all shaders and emblems), i think FWC is the one who needs to rule, so through War(as violent as it sounds) we need to Survive, seing War in everything is not only blood and death, in rivalry, being competitive, seing a person as a possible enemy or ally, to make the hard choices that are needed to live, remember this is more like a Hunter, and we are the hunted, see the darkness as a tiger, and we as elephants, who need to fight in group and stand strong against the tiger, finishing him, surviving.
Just got to lv50 with New Monarchy and a brief period with Future War cult for NTE but picking a monarch or a dictator is the most efficient way to rule, only problem is that it might get in the hands of the wrong person which is why they're really careful on who they pick to unsure that doesn't happen.
Every now and then I am tempted to say to Lakshmi-2, Keelah Se'lai sometimes, because when I first heard Shohreh Aghdashloo's voice in Mass Effect 2 as Shala'Raan vas Tonbay, it just stuck in my mind.
Wow. I got into Byf's content way late, like Forsaken late. I didn't realize he had a more simple looking cat logo rather than the noble-looking lion he has now.
I never played D1 because I'm not big on playing with other people and there was no campaign to solo. I have been playing the hell out of D2 and while it is necessary to play with others for some activities, for the most part the people I've actually talked to have been super positive and really cool to play with. Since I got into the game only right before Curse of Osiris came out there is a lot of the story I don't know about and these videos have been great to watch. It makes me appreciate the world building that Bungie is so good at. They did a hell of a job with Halo and Destiny, to me, is just as good.
I know no-one will care, but I finally got my first Hawkmoon! after such a long time including getting 3 nlbs at the same time and 2 invectives rngesus blessed me with the Hawkmoon
The main problem is in heroic strikes and other high end pve content, it runs outta ammo too quickly. In PvP I'm sure its fine unless you unbroken every game
This is so freakin' good. Destiny has amazing lore and it's so easy to dive into the grimore and just get lost in it. That being said it would be nice to see a video on the Cabal Empire, though we don't really know a lot about them.
Not having to do with the factions, but what if Guardian's abilities are only linked to our solar system. So if we are to leave that we lose the power of the light.
+divius98 But we see that Eris morn an other have been cut off from the traveler, and even the player guardians have been cut off from the solar system. As when Oryx is initially slain, he moves the player into a realm that the only light there, is emanating from the player. I prefer to think of it as that each guardian is a light "generator" of sorts. Then it can grow without the aid of the traveler, and then we can take back our system and defend it, and when the traveler awakens.... oh shit! Maybe the traveler created the guardians so it could feed off of our light! After all, even Oryx and Crota can feed off of our light. What's to say that the traveler isn't part of the darkness, and it's defeat was only part of a rivalry, and it planted a seed of light to fight its enemies for it without the light see that it was serving the darkness, and the traveler will consume all of our light and become insanely strong once all of its enemies have been defeated for it! What an insidious idea...
Dude! Great video! I do however feel like the chosen leader for New Monarchy isn't a dictator per se. But someone of "Unimpeachable character" Doesn't mean they can't be impeached, but rather someone you would have no reason to. but should the reason arise I'm sure the Guardians would step in.
The Final Lore Card for the Vex (Obtained in a Taken King Strike, I won't say which) does give a pretty solid tie to how the FWC got started, and where "The Device" came from. It makes the Faction and their obsession with the Vex all the more interesting.
Love the vid. Gives insight as to who these Orders are, and what they stand for, giving me a reason to actually join them. Due to the repeated Rule of Three (3 races, 3 classes, 3 subclasses, 3 factions), I'll probably make my Exo Warlock join New Monarchy, my Human Titan join Future War Cult, and my Awoken Hunter join Dead Orbit.
I think the "Sovereign of Unimpeachable Character" statement with regards to the New Monarchy is meant as a description of the prospective sovereign - someone of "unimpeachable character" is somebody of such quality that their character would never be called into question - a person you'd never say was acting unethically. Not someone who could never be removed, per se, but trying to find the "good king," as it were.
It could be well put together from the No Time to Explain questline that the Exo Stranger was the Exo that entered the Device. She can be easily linked to the Cult (from No Time to Explain questline), and her Ghost is possibly referenced in the FWC Grimoire card at the end.
My name is Byf I think you kind of misinterpreted the seventh tenet of New Monarchy. When they say, "unimpeachable character," I read it as "a morally perfect leader". I may be wrong, though. Either way, though, the vagueness of that tenet could eventually prove a mistake. Even as a diehard NM supporter, I'm not gonna deny that. XD
+Andrew S you are correct about the 7th tenet. it speaks to the character of the leader not the state of the position. however a monarch by definition cannot be impeached or removed. I'm also a staunch supporter of new monarchy
the lore in destiny is expansive and great, too bad we need t look it up online. instead of orbit we should go direct from tower to locations and during loadout have these grimoire cards up, like battlefield 2 and other old ps2 games :P where facts appeared in the loadout menu.. a 'did you know', wihth coool concept art too. :D ps. dead orbit all the way, lets explore other galaxies :D
I like the video! I am a huge lore nerd about destiny, but am really edgy/touchy on subjects. and here are some lore subjects that you might be able to go on. -Rasputin causing the collapse. -the vex picking us -maybe the house of scar things? just a couple of theories i would like to be debunked and just thought out a little more.
Can I just say that with new monarchy it says that there will be a king if the consensus votes that there should which I am guessing the only time they will vote upon that is when all is almost lost
i suggest reading the grimoire card: Ghost Fragment Vex 5. i think it details the origin of the future war cult. *spoiler* in short, it involves the logs of Maya Sundaresh who is partaking with others in experiments with a device that allows those who enter it to see the future. towards the end, he/she leaves the project as the group began worshipping the device as a god. he/she wonders if it'll become a tradition "the gospel of our little cult"
I'm fairly certain that the seventh tenant for new monarchy didn't mean an unimpeachable ruler, but rather a ruler with unimpeachable character- which would mean a ruler that would be such a good person that their actions wouldn't lead to them being impeached and overall bring prosperity to the city. Though it's all in the eyes of the reader I suppose
Dredgen Yor! You could talk about Jaren Ward too if you wanted but it'd be cool if you could also mention things like how great he was in the crucible and how he killed people like Pahanin and Thalor too, the little known stuff
I'd like to see more about the classes, subclasses, and their various orders. I probably already missed that video, so my vote is for the Cabal since they're likely the focus of the next DLC.
My Name is Byf, any chance of a video about the Reef Wars? I think that'd be interesting, a lot of events happened that's kinda hard to keep up with by switching through grimoire cards.
Its not a new idea, but I love the idea of the traveler being evil. I like to think it allowed humanity "the golden age" to reproduce and inhabit loads of planets with long life periods and then on "the collapse" it revealed its true intentions which is why in caydes "the collapse" grimoire it says "it wants me to see this". After the collapse there are four factions (hive, fallen, cabal, and guardians). All are actually human with different abilities and its the travelers deception that makes them appear as monsters. We're all killing eachother to extinction for the travelers entertainment and when we're done it'll move on and repeat. Its an immortal godlike being with nothing better to do. The nine could be a different race that follow to watch the destruction and sell weapons to make it more interesting. Thats why the future warcult are also mysterious, an exo with some memory could lead the fwc and understands somewhat whats going on and realises its all about war. When humans enter a view into the future and understand whats going on they go insane. Theres loads of little links you could bring in. Im sures theres loads of flaws with the idea. But i think it'd be the darkest and coolest end if you were the last fireteam on the last raid and the traveler lifts the veil and it turns out the 6 of you just made humanity extinct.
I hope we will have more faction based missions in destiny 2 ending up with the faction you chose for getting the lead leaving the city if you choose dead orbit, getting a unreplaceable King with new monarchy and preparing for war with the futurewarcult
Interesting to see the hallway around 3:30 and recognize it from the D2 beta (waiting for pc release). I'm catching up on Destiny lore and it impresses me.
I feel like perspective of the factions depends on where you're looking at them from. I feel like a lot of people look at them from the position of a guardian, and not one of the civilians that comprise the majority of the factions. Once you shift perspective to that someone who isn't essentially made immortal by the Traveler, I would argue that you would see it takes a lot more courage to decide that you should venture away from comforts of the City, the shields of the Traveler, and the security provided by the guardians, to try and establish a home elsewhere.
Okay I know that this may not be like the greatest idea but I think it would be very interesting to have a video on The Battle of Twilight Gap and show the assault on the city and show the roles Shaxx and Lord Saladin and their relationship with each other. And then maybe tie in some G-horn lore with that. Idk sounds cool
Dead Orbit since the beginning. But it took some time for me to actually understand their ideals and plan of action. Now that I know, I like them even more. As a Hunter, we explore the galaxy and learn what's out there, which goes every well in line with DO. And as a hunter, we are survivors, out in the wild and behind enemy lines, we have to. This is why I'm a Hunter main allied with Dead Orbit.
Not going to lie. The only reason I pledged FWC was because Lakshmi-2 is voiced by the same lady that did Admiral Shala'Raan vas Tonbay from Mass Effect. I love that character, the Quarian race as a whole, and her voice.
Is it possible that Toland the Shattered was a FWC member as well? On one piece of the war cult armor, the lore description has a quote from someone mentioning the three queens.
Not sure if this has been brought up or not but I just came off of watching the Book of Sorrows videos and FWC's core tenants sound a lot like the Sword Logic. Makes fighting for them in the Crucible a little interesting.
Of unimpeachable character means they would pick someone that they would have no reason to impeach. Whatever fits their bill, not that they cannot or they would give power to someone rotten. But who is rotten? Opinions may vary, batteries not included.
It's been said, but to clarift, New Monarchy means they want to eventually find a person so absolutely perfect that no one would disagree with the idea of them ruling all of Humanity. Such a person most likely never exists and would really just be an endless quest for the faction should no such "Emperor of Mankind" ever show up. It's actually a really cool addition to a functioning democracy. Basically, New Monarchy is the only sane faction and the other two are run by psychopaths with sometimes sociopathic worldviews.
Considering Dead Orbit's main principle of mass exodus from the City, wouldn't a Titan (wall-builder and defender) in Dead Orbit be like a shark in a desert? or like a Titan Order disqualification?
Excellent video Byf. Along the topic of factions, there were 5 factions: Seven Seraphs, New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and Osiris, according to Destinypedia (www.destinypedia.com/Seven_Seraphs). Is there a reason you you chose to stick mainly to the 3 current in-game factions, or did you leave out Seven Seraphs and Osiris intentionally to do separate lore videos on them? I have not spent that much time looking into the grimoire cards about them, but was wondering if you have found anything out about the Seven Seraphs, and do you think that they may be a faction added back in future DLC's/Expensions?
Interesting note is that Dr Maya Suresh seems to be the founding matriarch of the fwc and from some of cayde-6 entries i wouldn't be surprised if he is or have been a member. I love what Zavala says about new monarchy & kinds 😂. I wanna know more about the iron wolves.
is the concordat that other faction opposite new monarchy on bannerfall? that would mean that bannerfall is supposed to be the final battle where the concordat was defeated. that also explains the name bannerfall. that's where a the concordat banner fell. I've also noticed that the green symbol for the concordat can be seen around tower west. near new monarchy...
4:39 that flag, that should have been Dead Orbit's color scheme. At least anything but that baby puke green trim with copper they tried adding to the armor in the 3 season faction rally.
On the subject of New Monarchy. I would turn that down in a heart beat, our world is nowhere near as broken as the one in Destiny and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Look at the world as it is then have someone tell you "your going to be king of the world, your job is to fix this" Would you want the job? Could you do that job?
It's such a shame we don't really get to explore the factions in the game, would be so cool if there were quests for them that took us specifically to new locations just for our faction, not only that but to perhaps participate in wars against the other factions
By "unimpeachable character" I think the New Monarchy is saying they will put a person WITH an unimpeachable character, that's why the approached Zavala about the position, because he had an ever present and an unchangeable character
Well. I guess that the Exo Stranger must be a member of the FWC. I mean the connections are there. FWC is obessed with war and has machines that can give you insight at different periods of time, The VoG team was obsessed with the vex and their time travelling and so is the Exo Stranger obsessed with the Vex in particular over anything else. Also the No Time to Explain is a gift we get from the FWC From all these three factions I think that the Dead Orbit is the closest to being right. Staying on that spot where we are now will lead to our doom. We need to expand ourselves and have more than one place that we could call home. Staying where we are is just lead the enemy to our last remains of a home. The next closest Faction is the Future War Cult. They prepare for a big war and I think that's pretty damn good to do so simply for the fact that on every inch of our solar system there are enemies just waiting to kill us. We need to be prepared for that and for every fight that comes before this supposed big war. then there's the new monarchy which I believe are the furthest away from being right. Having one ruler that stands above all and everyone will bring us closer to our doom than our enemies could bring us. We need several leaders that will lead all of us. not one, but two or three or more. be a democracy. not a monarchy.
I am a FWC guardian but i don't think that war is everywhere. I think that war is a constant of the exsistance of the universe and the existance of man, and in this tragic times of crisis we need to prepare ourselves for the worst

+Praxic Fire well, i joined D.O. on the principles of FWC was a bit... crazy if you will, NM was a almost "god given rule" type ordeal, and that out of the 3 i think DO would be most useful if a sudden attack happened NM has followers, FWC has soldiers, But we got fleet on fleet of ships. But i really don't go for "mines Better" in this endless argument, like me being a warlock, i don't say any one class is the best, each have a flaw and pros for the Factions and classes, but good luck if you make a vid.
+Capr icorn You are absolutely right! And I like your logic! Mostly I joined because god forbid the city fall's we have an avenue of escape to help save the survivors and continue humanity's influence within the system :)
Jonathan martinez WOW! Perfect summery! I agree completely!
+Jonathan martinez the road to hell is paved with good intentions ;)
Bungie needs to give you a call. Your lore presentations are becoming more interesting than the game itself. Good work!
please please keep the extra lore series going, very much love it. Thanks byf
I'm really enjoying these lore videos Byf! A lot of people kinda just read the grimoire but you add so much personality to these different characters and you're a lot more analytical with what the grimoire is saying. I look forward for more!
could listen to you all day about the lore of Destiny. You just seem to bring it to life, look forward to next lore video.
FWC FOR THE WIN!
+Zaking Gaming FUTURE WAR CULT, FUTURE WAR CULT, FUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA >:D
FWC FTW FWC FTW FWC FTW FWC FTW!!!!!!!!
+Zaking Gaming new monarchy is cool too
Just got to lv50 with New Monarchy and a brief period with Future War cult for NTE but picking a monarch or a dictator is the most efficient way to rule, only problem is that it might get in the hands of the wrong person which is why they're really careful on who they pick to unsure that doesn't happen.
Loved the lore video and OMG for the last bit. I can hardly wait for this coming Monday!
Amazing video, Byf. This makes me love my faction even more. And the trailer at the end was great!
Every now and then I am tempted to say to Lakshmi-2, Keelah Se'lai sometimes, because when I first heard Shohreh Aghdashloo's voice in Mass Effect 2 as Shala'Raan vas Tonbay, it just stuck in my mind.
With Factions about to drop this week wanted to refresh my history. This was perfect! Thank you
very much enjoying your newish lore productions Byf . Keep it going ... steady and consistent . Take it nice and slow . Love the content !
BYF I can't go very long without a video from you. your my favorite destiny guy. just wanted you to know.
This was awesome, it was nice to hear all the details about the faction wars, and get a better look into the factions. (FWC for life!)
Wow. I got into Byf's content way late, like Forsaken late. I didn't realize he had a more simple looking cat logo rather than the noble-looking lion he has now.
Great video, love seeing the lore presented in a concise and easily parsed way.
Would love to see an episode about The Nine- Xur's mysterious masters.
Dude I love your lore videos they're so in depth and awesome keep em' coming
I never played D1 because I'm not big on playing with other people and there was no campaign to solo. I have been playing the hell out of D2 and while it is necessary to play with others for some activities, for the most part the people I've actually talked to have been super positive and really cool to play with. Since I got into the game only right before Curse of Osiris came out there is a lot of the story I don't know about and these videos have been great to watch. It makes me appreciate the world building that Bungie is so good at. They did a hell of a job with Halo and Destiny, to me, is just as good.
BYF really like the content, great job on these lore videos!
I know no-one will care, but I finally got my first Hawkmoon! after such a long time including getting 3 nlbs at the same time and 2 invectives rngesus blessed me with the Hawkmoon
To bad its getting nerfed so hard its gonna be horrible
Yeah... Sucks but what ever at least it looks good in my vault
+Anne Pennycook Not that bad. You'll still be able to two shot if the bullets proc.
Didn't Xur sell it like the 2nd week of ttk?
The main problem is in heroic strikes and other high end pve content, it runs outta ammo too quickly. In PvP I'm sure its fine unless you unbroken every game
This is so freakin' good. Destiny has amazing lore and it's so easy to dive into the grimore and just get lost in it.
That being said it would be nice to see a video on the Cabal Empire, though we don't really know a lot about them.
Not having to do with the factions, but what if Guardian's abilities are only linked to our solar system. So if we are to leave that we lose the power of the light.
That's a nice idea because the guardians have a link with the Traveler, maybe the link grant us the abilities and it might have an effective range
That spawn at the end, great job Bungie. You're really promoting those spawn kills.
I might just switch from New Monarchy because of this video. Solid points across the board. Very well done, as usual!
I really do enjoy your synopsis of each individual faction this was a great video very well written thanks please keep it up
Watching this just before the Destiny 2 faction event to ensure my correct decision!
Ollie Horne same
Ollie Horne yea same
I love watching old speculation videos and seeing just how much we got right.
Been waiting for this! Thanks Byf!
So the traveller is awake now...I wonder how DO feels about that.
Good question
Also, as far as the NM goes it says "Unimpeachable character" not saying that he is unimpeachable. It just means that his character is unquestionable.
personally i would like to learn more about the different classes and their subclasses and how they obtained those powers and such
great video, as always byf!
It could be well put together from the No Time to Explain questline that the Exo Stranger was the Exo that entered the Device. She can be easily linked to the Cult (from No Time to Explain questline), and her Ghost is possibly referenced in the FWC Grimoire card at the end.
I like Dead Orbit just because of their shaders and emblems. In other words, style. I haven't made my decision based on the lore.
Iron banner lore????
That wasn't meant to be rude. I love you videos and would like to hear more about iron banner
+Briggsyy55 chill dude :) you good :)
+Briggsyy55: agreed. would be awesome to know what happened to the Iron lords.
I'm also a staunch supporter of new monarchy
that bit about the FWC, is why my Warlock is a devout member.
"The Universe is in a constant state of conflict. Why fight the flow?"
the lore in destiny is expansive and great, too bad we need t look it up online. instead of orbit we should go direct from tower to locations and during loadout have these grimoire cards up, like battlefield 2 and other old ps2 games :P where facts appeared in the loadout menu.. a 'did you know', wihth coool concept art too. :D
ps. dead orbit all the way, lets explore other galaxies :D
great video, interesting to know more about the factions
I like the video! I am a huge lore nerd about destiny, but am really edgy/touchy on subjects. and here are some lore subjects that you might be able to go on.
-Rasputin causing the collapse.
-the vex picking us
-maybe the house of scar things?
just a couple of theories i would like to be debunked and just thought out a little more.
I'm catching up on Destiny lore and it impresses me.
awesome! like the fact that you are slowly leaning towards lore.
Hey Byf, love the work, have you done any lore on who activated the first rasputin terminal?
13:32 when Byf predicts the Red War two years beforehand
Is it possible that Toland the Shattered was a FWC member as well? On one piece of the war cult armor, the lore description has a quote from someone mentioning the three queens.
The furthest you can go back into the fallen history would be an awesome ome video
this video started like a shoodycast lore video
Shoddy cast FTW
OMG I thought he was about to ramble on about high elves or kahjiit
I would love to see your ideas on the fate of Mara Sov and the possible future for the reef and awaken. great video. Keep it up!!!
*awoken.... Damn phone!
First off Bungie needs to pay your advertising. Secondly I want you on the Destiny audiobook
I would really like to learn about the Iron Lords and the battle of Twilight Gap.
Zavala is new monarchy's bae. That's why Hideo says the line (or something like) "Titan's are our favorite"
is the concordat that other faction opposite new monarchy on bannerfall? that would mean that bannerfall is supposed to be the final battle where the concordat was defeated. that also explains the name bannerfall. that's where a the concordat banner fell. I've also noticed that the green symbol for the concordat can be seen around tower west. near new monarchy...
You know Byf I had wanted to go to bed, then I watched your videos....
4:39 that flag, that should have been Dead Orbit's color scheme. At least anything but that baby puke green trim with copper they tried adding to the armor in the 3 season faction rally.
your theories on the cabal
On the subject of New Monarchy. I would turn that down in a heart beat, our world is nowhere near as broken as the one in Destiny and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Look at the world as it is then have someone tell you "your going to be king of the world, your job is to fix this" Would you want the job? Could you do that job?
It's such a shame we don't really get to explore the factions in the game, would be so cool if there were quests for them that took us specifically to new locations just for our faction, not only that but to perhaps participate in wars against the other factions
Do The Nine, they would be awesome. P.S Long episodes are great ;)
By "unimpeachable character" I think the New Monarchy is saying they will put a person WITH an unimpeachable character, that's why the approached Zavala about the position, because he had an ever present and an unchangeable character
How about the lore behind the Fallen? Like, say, the different houses or even about Variks and his own House?
I'm sure it's been mentioned in a previous comment, but does the FWC ascribe to a version of the Sword Logic? It sounds like they do.
Anyone else watching this right before faction rally in d2 to get caught up on faction lore?
Thank you for the lore vid!
Also the No Time to Explain is a gift we get from the FWC
From all these three factions I think that the Dead Orbit is the closest to being right.
Dead orbit for the shader and hung jury new monarchy for the Viking Titan gear and ship future war cult for the Titan hockey mask and great guns
I am a FWC guardian but i don't think that war is everywhere. I think that war is a constant of the exsistance of the universe and the existance of man, and in this tragic times of crisis we need to prepare ourselves for the worst
Can u make a lore video on each class specifically the warlocks ?
