CCR 3650 Snow Thrower! Let's Get It Started For The First Time In Five Years!

  • This Toro CCR 3650 Snow Blower has been sitting in my neighbor's garage for five years. Hasn't been started in all that time. I'm hoping it needs only a little TLC to get it going. First thing to replace is the missing primer bulb. Then clean up a few things.
    The neighbors moved to a condo so they no longer need to clear the sidewalks and driveways. So this two cycle machine was gifted to me. I think a few dollars in parts and a little maintenance will get her running again. Of course we probably won't have any snow if I get it running. But I'll be ready!

    Best single stage snow blower ever made. The new ones don’t compare to these old CCR units. Keep it maintained and it’ll last you a long time!

    I recommend greasing the track and gear that rotate the chute -- makes the chute turn much easier. I used water-resistant grease that I had for an automotive application. The primer bulb on mine cracked too -- I just replaced the rubber part. I'm pretty sure that it's the same part that my 2-stroke Lawn-Boy uses. I've had mine for 19 years.

    Nice video, no reason to take off all that scaffolding though, cover comes off fine with all the handle bars on and it gives you leverage when working on the carb (put it on its face)

  • @wannawin95

    This video has very high production value, and is very well made so I hate to knock it... However...
    You went about everything the hardest way possible. You could have easily drained the tank, replaced the fuel line, installed a new primer by taking out the two bolts holding the bottom cover on lol
    This unit was designed for easy maintenance access through the bottom cover. Instead, you removed the handle, crank, crank mount and chute... In fact, you could have removed the chute crank by just pulling on it, as it was also designed to be easily removed.
    Your video quality is great, but some extra research before getting started would have saved you a ton of effort.

      @@TheProjectCave You did a good job bringing it back to life. Make sure to use some fuel stabiliser when storing it or drain the fuel prior to storage. These are nice machines that are well built and throw snow reasonably far, take care of it and it'll live a long life :)
      Lastly, that bad sound you heard when running the electric start is likely the bronze gear at the end of the starter not engaging with the flywheel properly. Over time the gear wears out, typically its because their blower struggles to start and they keep the starter button pressed. You can buy a replacement gear online or from your local briggs and stratton dealer.

    I have the same snow blower. Have to try to tackle this tomorrow as this Thursday they forecast snow for us. My primer bulb dried out in my shed from storage so hope I don’t mess up, lol.
    Do u think I should try to start it up w out using the priming bulb worst case?

    • @TheProjectCave
      @TheProjectCave  3 роки тому +1

      Replacing the bulb was pretty easy. Just be prepare to replace the hoses if they are very dried out. Also, if you have to cut one of them (like I did), make sure you will have enough length to attach the new bulb.
      As for starting it without the primer bulb, I believe there is a trick to it but I don’t know it. Search for it and let me know! I got mine started last year and I wound up not needing it. But it was fun to get something working again.
      Now, to get the mixture right and clear up that smoke another commenter mentioned. Hope it was just because I used the premixed stuff.

      Thank you so much for your response. I’m going to pull it out of the shed after breakfast and start cleaning it down and inspecting. I think my hoses should be ok as they were all changed 4 years ago and lubed. I also silicones sprayed the whole unit prior and a little after our last snow storm 2 yrs ago and no snow stuck to the unit. In fact the snow flew off the shoot, lol. Didn’t use it last yr because we didn’t get snow.
      I did look into that trick on getting it to start without replacing. Saw some great videos on here that suggest a syringe or bulb syringe 💉 if you will. I plan on trying that.
      As for the mixture I’m horrible at that so I just buy the premix at Home Depot. Just picked up 3 bottles and stabilizer also

    Got a question. Why does my leak oil ? Someone said a screw on bottom of oil pan gets loose. I’m a older woman trying to get this blower going. It worked for my daughter las year but leaked oil made a mess. So no mixing gas with this blower.? My husband passed suddenly a couple of years ago. I didn’t get instructions to all the equipment.

    • @TheProjectCave
      @TheProjectCave  3 роки тому +1

      Mine is a 50:1 gas to oil mix. Not sure why it is leaking. Here is a link to the manual: www.toro.com/getpub/25823
      It may just need some simple maintenance to stop the leak. But if you have the ccr3650, it is the gas oil mix leaking.

    Do all toro ccr 3650 have fuel filters

    • @TheProjectCave
      @TheProjectCave  2 роки тому

      I would say they probably do. As I recall, it is just a small part right in line with the fuel line. I suppose someone could have bypassed it by not putting a new filter in when they changed the fuel line. They are often included in maintenance kits with new carbs and fuel bulbs.

    2.6oz of 2 stroke oil for 1gal of gas. Or 1/3 cup.

      It could be. I used a premixed 50:1, which the owner’s manual called for. I’m going to try replacing the plug and see if that helps. After that, adjust the module that creates the spark (and replace if necessary). I also wanted to see if I could get it started before I put more than a few dollars for gas in it. I’m open to other suggestions. Thank you for the comment. It will help me improve the run quality of the snow blower.
