Strange Noise 2015 F150!?!?
#theprojectcave
My truck developed a strange noise that only happened while the RPMs were low and the truck was moving pretty slow. You only heard it when the engine hit a certain harmonic. You can listen to the noise about 50 seconds in.
I've experienced this problem on two occasions before. An old Honda Civic I owned when I was in college was the first time. The second time was with someone's Acura Integra (so it sounded exactly the same as my Civic). I told her what it was just by the sound and she basically said I had no idea what I was talking about. Let me tell you it was real hard for her to apologize after the mechanic told her I was exactly right.
Anyway, it sounds different on the Ford 5.0, but the appearance and disappearance based on RPMs and speed were the same.
So, a likely (and CHEAP TO FIX) culprit is part of a heat shield over the exhaust has broken loose.
On the F150, part of the exhaust runs under the driver's side. Take a look under the vehicle beneath the driver's seat. This is where I found my problem. And I fixed it with a stainless steel hose clamp.

Ford 5.0 V8 T-Pipe Coolant Leak Update!
Переглядів 2192 роки тому
#theprojectcave Just a quick update about the O ring replacement! Made that repair last week and the mystery coolant leak is no longer a mystery or a leak. The O ring was pretty easy to replace. Just have to take some steps to prevent coolant from spilling everywhere. Aside from that, the repair was pretty straightforward. Now I'm just waiting for the next repair to come my way! Every one of th...
F 150 Slow Coolant Leak! Change the Faulty T Pipe O Ring!
Переглядів 36 тис.2 роки тому
#theprojectcave Found a small puddle of coolant under my F150. Turns out there is a small leak from an unexpected place. The T pipe that comes from the engine and leads back to the radiator contains an O ring on the inside of one of the radiator hoses that is susceptible to leaking after a few years. This coolant leak appears to be fairly common in Ford 5.0 V8 engines from 2011 to 2018. Especia...
Drain Water From A Tank - Champion 4 Flapper Leaves Too Much Water
Переглядів 8202 роки тому
#theprojectcave I have an American Standard Champion 4 flapper in the bathroom toilet. I need to drain the tank and remove it in order to continue some work removing wallpaper and painting the bathroom. This particular valve leaves about 1 to 1.5 gallons of water in the tank. Here is a super easy was to drain the tank of that water without spending a lot of time trying to bail the tank with a c...

Change A Table Saw Blade
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
#theprojectcave Changing the blade on a table saw is an easy task, even if you don't have an arbor wrench. You only need one adjustable wrench, which is great if your saw came with two and you lost one or both or you just never learned how and your manual is unclear. Watch this video and I will show you how to change the blade on a table saw with one wrench and a piece of scrap lumber. This pro...
Install A Smart Lock Upgrade - August Smart Lock
Переглядів 1172 роки тому
#theprojectcave Today I'll show you how to install an August smart lock. It is an attachment that fits right on your existing lock and turns it into a smart lock. It allows for both keyed and keyless entry. Also, it works both via wifi and blue tooth. You will use the existing bolts from your lock so there is no need to purchase any special mounting kit. It comes with everything you need. If yo...
Installing A Grommet - Beach Shade Saved
Переглядів 662 роки тому
#theprojectcave Installing a grommet is a simple process and in this case, saved our beach shade. The grommets that held the rod the shade used to keep its shape, pulled out. The rod then slid freely and the shade became a little unstable. With a grommet kit I picked up for a few dollars, I was able to save our beach shade. We needed that since there is a five year old and a new baby that need ...
Toro CCR 3650 Snow Blower Scraper Blade Replacement - Revised
Переглядів 3,9 тис.3 роки тому
#theprojectcave This version is revised to include a notice to drain the fuel tank by running the engine until empty or manually draining it into an approved container. This helps prevent fuel leakage when tipping the machine back to work on the scraper. The CCR-3650 snow blower needs the scraper blade replaced. This is a part that will wear out and is an easy DIY repair. How easy? The steps ar...
Toro CCR3650 Revisited! Snow Last Night and Got Rid of the Smokey Exhaust!
Переглядів 2,8 тис.3 роки тому
Here is an update on my Toro3650 video from last January! Last winter a neighbor gave me this old Toro CCR 3650 snow blower. It hadn't been run in five years and needed some work. We didn't get any snow and I was called out about my fuel oil mixture. It was smoking like a chimney. We got some snow this year and I improved the mix. The smoking problem was greatly improved and this little machine...
DIY Plywood Reindeer - An Easy Holiday Project You Can Do With Only A Few Tools
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
I recently decided to tackle the Plywood Reindeer. I found some inspiration from several different images, examples, and plans online and developed layout that allows for two reindeer to be created from one 4X8 sheet of plywood. The project can be completed with just a jigsaw. A sander will make it faster. After cutting and sanding, it is time for painting. It will be displayed outside, so pain...
Wallpaper Border Removal
Переглядів 2463 роки тому
#theprojectcave Trying to remove wallpaper can be a real pain, even if is only a border. To make the wallpaper removal process easier, I suggest getting a little steam to help. Wet wallpaper is easier to remove than dry. The moisture helps to soften the glue and allows you to peel it away from the wall. But just wetting the paper is not perfect. Using a power steamer was even more helpful. The ...

I've gotten great results with simple jigs, but a year and a half ago, I was given this guide that handles blades of man...
