your a/b demo convinced me that the EMG J pickups were well worth the time & effort to install. Thank you for the great demo. I am loving the combination of the active pickups and the passive tone control. Delightfully easy to adjust tone with combination of volume/volume/tone.
Man that sire bass sounds great stock it sounds even better with EMG's even though im a metal bassist that prefers BC Rich and Jackson basses I would rock a sire bass because they sound better than all the metal basses ive heard
Those EMGs are phat and warmer than the stock Sire pups, to my ears. Personally, I'm a big fan of the V5 but I'm looking for pickups that are more warm and vintage than the stock ones. Ah, the never-ending search for sound. Sire instruments are such great bang for the buck, top-notch manufacturing standards and playability. Thanks for the video - food for thought.
I put a set of passive EMGs in my G&L Tribute JB (also a cheaper 70s-style jazz) bass and similar result. I love how noiseless the EMGs are while having bigger output than most typical jazz pickups. Although now I'm curious to give one of their active sets a try too
That's funny. I did the exact same thing to my V7 vintage 5 for the exact same reason. Too many knobs and yes, the difference is huge. And the single coil hum has always irritated me. I have used EMGs since 79 ( I think) Most of my basses have them. I love how quiet they are when I favor the bridge pickup... never any noise. You might want to try the BTS circuit. Active Bass and Treble boost and cut. The treble has internal dip switches for 4 different EQ curves. That will solve your problem with the finger style sound. Give it a shot. I think you are going to love it.
I wouldn't say one is better or worse, the org have a nice steely top end and growl of their own, but these EMG sound phat and punchy, and compresses/tames the highs well. I guess it depends on your goal.
Besides the switch from active boost/cut EQ to V-V-T being easier to change sounds on the fly live, another plus to the EMG J-Set is that you will have no single coil hum when blending pickups or soloing one. Even though the EMGs are single coils, they do not hum at all, even when you solo a pickup.
Great demo and, as usual, fantastic playing!!!!! I'm considering replacing the pickups in my 2016 V75 with hum-cancelling or some different single-coil pickups but I really like to sound of my bass the way it is. Are the EMG electronics quieter than the stock Sire electronics?
Just one question Anthony, You said that you used the same strings, but your didn't say what strings those are. What make and model strings did you use? Cool demo, and great playing!
Fingerstyle they're pretty close. I prefer the stock slap because the EMG doesn't sit in the mix as well. The larger difference imo is getting the preamp you prefer.
BTW if you have a Mini Cooper in that color the you probably have a love for the British. Unless it's an old Mini , then you might have more mixed feelings. I used to have a 62 TR4 which left me stranded so many times I was getting a bad reputation. I had to buy a Volvo to make sure I would get to my gigs . I still love British cars but I would not want to own one anymore...ever LOL I think your bass would look better with the Union Jack. Then the bass and your car would be a perfect combination.
Fingerstyle not much in it. Stock pickups are a bit thinner in the lows and maybe more brittle in the highs. Slap is night and day. EMG's much more dynamic.
@@MotoMariosProbably an optical illusion due to camera angle and lens focal length vs. the angle he holds the bass at. The nut on my 2nd Gen fretless Sire V7 is spaced exactly the same as the one on my Fender USA Geddy Lee Jazz Bass which has the Leo Quann bridge with even string spacing, not the newer Fender “Geddy” bridge that has the wider gap between the second and third strings.
OMG!!! 😳I didn't expect such a massive improvement! Those EMGs sound killer! 🔥🔥🔥
Yes, that's why they are in my vintage J Basses
The EMG pickups sound more puncher especially when it comes to slap bass. Good choice! 👍🏾
Man that sounds so good. I’ve been watching your stuff for years.

MISS YOU ANTHONY! Your sound is just perfect!!
It sounds really good with the emg's!!!
EMG's give you that 3D sound that's really fantastic!

Very nice upgrade. Thank you for this comparison. Indeed, the EMG's sound fatter and punchier to my ears too.
Those EMGs are a beast!!!
EMGs sound awesomely Gnarly!

Def EMG. But for the price, the stock pickups do a pretty good job tbh
Lately, Marcus Miller has been using stock Sires for about half his show on tour.
EMG'S!! 🔥🔥🔥 AV is it possible to get or purchase that backing track ? That Groove is LIT !
Thanks man. I don't have it anymore , otherwise I'd just send it to you. Sorry!
@@JBass69 Thanks just the same. GO PATS ! 👊🏽

EMGs for sure 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
i really like the sound of the EMGs', but im so tempted to make a sleeper, buy one of Harley Benton's dirt cheap j models and put those EMGs in it

I use Dean Markley Blue Steel. Light gauge 45-100

what is the compressor ?!!! sounds amazing cheers

Hey nice! The emgs sound way better, what amp are you using here?
I’m using and old GK 400 RB through a SWR Son of Bertha, but I think I was just direct on that video. The amp was just for me to hear in the room.
Also, it could have been that little Trace Elliot I have on top. I think it was.
EMG👍👍👏👏
That red, blue, black, yellow and green sticker is really nice. what is it?
That is the UCI Cycling World Champion Flag.
What’s the tune you’re playing to?

Nice comparison video! I guess these are EMG J style. Has anyone tried EMG JVX and/or compare it with EMG J?

They don't make a 5 string version yet!!!!! Damn!!!!
Really? I had a 5 string version years ago.
@@JBass69 I went on EMG's website and I didn't see one
@@sowelldon They don't have the pre wired, but these are the same and easy to install. www.emgpickups.com/j5set.html

Excellent EMG Nice 👌 better slap👍🏼 ✓Pizzcicato
Oh Yeah ...the EMGs
EMG all the way, I have never been a fan of Sire pickups to be honest
This bass has a strange nut. The string spacing isn't even at all.
It's standard. Feels just like my other J Basses
@@JBass69 Thanks. I find it amazing and I'm left wondering why.
