As a kid you shouldn't have totally unsupervised responsibility for your own lunch until YOU can pre plan and executive function. As an autistic kid I often ended up going into school with literally a piece of bread and then being so hungry and having a meltdown

I don’t eat that all at once because in some classes I can have food especially my third hour. When I see videos like this I'm so grateful that in my country all students in school gets free, hot lunch. You are also able to get a second portion if you want.
I had free lunch here, because my family was poor enough. At my school most of the kids got free school lunch because we lived in a poor city. But they definitely didn’t allow second portions, they wanted to make sure kids got the right amount of calories and nutrition, and it was already dishes for you, no choices 🤷🏻♀️ I didn’t feel like I was missing out since I didn’t know any different.
Our school district gets free lunches and breakfast now. It's been like this the last few years, but it wasn't free for everyone when I was going there. My son now gets breakfast he can eat in class and lunch. I think it's wonderful for kids whose parents never fed them whether it was because they couldn't afford it or because they were just neglected.

I do the “variety is overrated” I get a sandwich, oranges, whatever dessert my mom has baked, cheese-stick, and some kind of dry snack like Chex, Chex mix, Cheetos etc lol it has been basically the same thing since kindergarten (obviously it’s changed a bit over time though)

My daughter's school doesn't have a fully functional cafeteria, and they don't have lunch ladies, or breakfast. Our daughter likes to make use of the microwaves available to all the students. Sometimes she takes leftovers from dinner if she really likes whatever we had for dinner. She loves bologna and cheese sandwiches, and cheese and mustard sandwiches. Sometimes she'll ask for peanut butter and jelly instead. I don't forget the napkins or disposable utensils. I make sure she has everything she needs. I try to keep it as healthy and as simple as possible for her and for her teachers and the staff at the school. Some parents don't take the messes or difficulties into consideration, and some just struggle to buy food or make reasonable decisions for their kid's school lunches. They just started offering lunches for kids that don't have anything. Grilled cheese and chicken patties and stuff like that. Its a small school, and they do their best. I loved school lunches, and I never turned my nose up at any of the options they had. The pasta with meat sauce was my favorite. It was buttered noodles or meat sauce. Their Italian hoagies were pretty good too.
