Thank you for sacrificing your time to make all these videos, it's so refreshing to watch videos with relevant subject matter and no bullshit clickbait titles. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Dan, the support means a lot. We try not to make it clickbait.
You don’t need to be gimmicky to have a great show this show is down to earth and straight to the point no bull shit advice and that is what the hobby truly needs. Keep up the great work!
Haha, love radio 4, especially Desert Island Discs - as a 29 year old woman I disagree it's an old man's channel :)
old farts channel then
I’ve got a signed copy of the Complete Boa Constrictor!
Details of the books featured now included in the description. Including ISBN publisher and year of publication. Make sure you include your favourite book recommendations in the comments. Lets share the wealth.
Snakes 'N' Adders mate I love your approach to the way you do your channel you need to change nothing!!, I finally have a uk channel that I can hear my own countrymen’s voice even though I’m Scottish lol, nothing against my American cousins but it’s for American audiences not all channels obviously some are great some way over the top, but it’s good to see a uk channel from a uk breeder with the experience you have give advice and shed some light on uk reptile keeping 🐍🐢🦎👍
Ha just got in the #1 book a few weeks ago definitely gonna take a look at #3... sounds like you have alot more books to suggest definitely wouldn't mind hearing more.
lucky man. a fabulous title.
encyclopedia of snakes by Chris Mattison
keeping and breeding snakes by Chris Mattison
pythons of the world vol 1 by Barker and Barker
Monitor Lizards by Daniel Bennett
Complete Boa Constrictor by Vin Russo
Kingsnakes and Milksnakes by Markel
Some books that I have and have found really useful.
The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley
The Complete Boa Constrictor by Vin Russo
The More Complete Chondro by Greg Maxwell
The Complete Carpet Python by Nick Mutton and Justin Julander
The Sandboa Book by Warren Treacher
Rhacodactylus: A Complete Guide to Their Selection and Care by Philippe De Vosjoli (this one has a lot of outdated names and still refers to leachie localities by island "letter" when they were trying to keep the localities secret).
some great titles there, i beleive the vin russo book is excellent and the best of the series.
Chaz,
The Reproductive Husbandry of Boas and Pythons was published in 1990.
yeah i got it in the end. ive included it in the description. thanks though mate x
The channel is great, I watch every video. Thanks for the info on the books. I will look if I can find number 3. That one seems really interesting.
thanks mate, you wont regret it.
Thanks JB your support is very much appriciated
You're welcome! :)
Great video the reproductive husbandry of pythons and boas looks interesting I've never really read that many reptile books surprisingly.
I also ended up finally deciding to pick up a blood after your video on constant temperature yesterday (She's a super matrix / Ivory)
i cannot recommend the book highly enough, i truly is an excellent title. That said they all are. Love my books.
Two books I have really enjoyed, though they are not about husbandry, are "The New Encyclopaedia of Snakes" by Chris Matthison, and "Pythons of the World, volume one: Australia" by David Barker. Both are full of magnificent photos. The David Barker book has beautiful illustrations of the scalations. So far, only volume one has been published. The Health and Welfare of Captive Reptiles, which I learned about from you, is, I agree, indispensible for anybody who keeps reptiles. Thanks for another great video.
i have both titles and agree. number two boid book for me is pythons of the world vol 1 and as i teferred to in the vid the encyclopedia of snakes narrowly missed out.
By far my fav video yet......even though many reptile books are out of print a bit of searching can uncover some great 2nd hand finds.
There is a facebook group called
Reptile and Amphibian Book Classifieds
where quite often interesting books appear for sale.
superb shout out.
I love books, excellent vid. what other books do you use?
Chaz, if you ever happen to know the whereabouts of copies (for sale) of The Reproductive... (your no.1) and Keeping and Breeding Australian Pythons could you let me know? Best one I have (for my species) is The Complete Childrens Python, which to be fair is a very decent book. Doesn't go into the natural habitat as much as I'd like though.
hi chaz thanks for this emotinal in depth video as a future keeper myself im hyped for the nr 5 book personally and the gecko one (not that the others dont interest me i simoly doubt ill keep boas or pythons tbh but knowing myself a good read never escapes me) thanks chaz i saw thwt u put ur soul ajd experience in this video and dont worry ur channel and u urself will grow and evovle in time so no worries there is nothing wrong with growing up and learning stuff thanks chaz this video was magical in a way through how much u open urself to ur experience with us through this book or hoe saddening it is to knkw that u wont get hate or flammed by a non living object that doesnt understand or have emotion rather than a human being thank you chaz thank you so much for doing something that was never asked of you
ps i have a question is the nr 5 book shows how to take care of fwc like their temp temperament feeding cycle and sort of how to make a viv for them etc just curious if so it will def help me in the future and be a must cheers chaz
i would not say it is truely in depth but will act as a point of reference for you. For oddball colubrids it has been a great resource over the years.
Snakes 'N' Adders then that is more then enough thanks for the reply chaz appreciated it a lot def picking up this book in the future cheers mate
A book reccomendation from me for all those interested in Chameleons
Chameleons of Africa - An Atlas by Colin R Tilbury. 2nd Edition 2018
Its not cheap, but its big heavy and full of in depth knowledge 😁
thanks for the recommendation Paul
Can you do a version of this but for people who can't pay £100 for a book please
there are only two books here that will top that sort of value, the other 3 are well south of that figure. Put a figure on the usefullness of a book. If you pay a tenner for a book do you expect the quality of information shown here? Because in truth mate, that is unrealistic. Plus, these are my top 5 books, not my top five recommendations on a budget under £20.......
There is nothing like holding a book in your hands and flipping through pages. Now kids and adults have a plastic phone in their hands and swiping. Tragic.
preach.....
The smell of the old TFH hard back books. That special photoglaze printing they had in them. They smelled devine, that was my childhood right there.
For a man who claims he can't read you sure do like books
guilty as charged, i love books.
