  • A list of Reptile Rescues and animal sanctuaries in the UK. A quick google search threw up these results. I do not know if all are still active nor can i endorse any. Due diligence is needed to check where a surrendered animal goes.
There is no excuse for dumping reptiles. It is callous, illegal and totally irresponsible.
You are potentially consigning your pet to death.

I reached out and was offered to rehome the beardie who was left on the motorway, he is honestly the sweetest dragon I’ve had and I’m so glad to have him :). He was really lucky that he was found and brought to you guys and so am i. I hope that other reptiles found or having to be given up are as lucky as him and find people who will care for them, thank you so much for letting me take him in

I live in the US, but we’re experiencing the same problem of animals being dumped not only because of financial difficulties or a change in circumstances but also out of a lack of continued interest. Once the novelty of owning a reptile wears off and people realize how much work needs to be put into some of them, they decide they’ll just dump them outdoors because they’re “wild animals” even though it’s normally a death sentence for the animal as they don’t originate from the area. Not only that, but more often than not the animal they dump is captive bred and don’t have the skills necessary to survive in the wild on their own. To my way of thinking, it’d be like dropping a child off in the wilderness and expecting them to survive. Yes there’s a slim chance they’ll be able to survive, but there’s a higher chance that they will fail to do so.
Don’t condemn your animals to death by dumping them. Ask friends, family, coworkers, etc if they might be interested in the animal. If no one you know personally can take it, look up shelters and rescues in your area and always be sure to find out as much as you can about them so that you’ll know the animal will be safe and in capable hands. It only takes a little effort to find a safe environment for an animal you no longer want/can no longer keep instead of giving it less than a fair chance at life by dumping it in a non native area. Please stop being so callous as to the lives of these innocent animals. They didn’t ask for any of this.

Great video thanks for the information. Don't know how people could just dump any pet but it happens all too often.

Sadly I can see this problem increasing for a while.. personally I’d rather go without food than loose my babies if a push came to a shove ..
