To add to your *very* correct statement, people need to stop assuming that ANY doctor knows what they're talking about regarding any subject, including their own specialties. Always get a second opinion, always read up on whatever they tell you/give to you (diagnoses, medications, therapies, procedures, etc), and never ever EVER blindly trust any professional. I visited a doctor for lymphedema in my leg. He was a vascular specialist. He mentioned to me that losing a little weight might help with my condition. Okay, fair. But then he suggested this book that had just made the NYT bestseller list and everyone was reading it and he recommends it to everyone. I asked him if the research in the book was peer-reviewed and what studies were done. He immediately shut down and then acted annoyed at me the rest of the visit.
It's really disconcerting how many people don't know to ask for studies and peer-reviewed research when it comes to serious topics like health, but then when a *doctor* falls for the same stuff? It's even more disheartening.

Yeah... A lot of doctors do this and it's wild. My friend was told that vaping is worse than smoking, which is a dangerous myth. My mom and I both quit smoking by switching the vaping first. Even if we didn't then quit vaping, it's FAR less harmful and dangerous when you remove combustion. A lot of people are eating up the lie (a narrative originating with Big Tobacco) but to hear DOCTORS saying that is horrifying.
I've also been told vitamins and supplements are all useless. My boyfriend's psychiatrist had the motto "maximize the dosage!" I have heard nurses saying masks do nothing to prevent the spread of viruses. These people all use their credentials to push potentially dangerous ignorance on people who trust them.

Regarding the eye colour change bit, the eye colour insert box states the colour as ‘MARRON’, which is the french word for chestnut. The paste used on a montblanc dessert is made of chestnuts. If you look at those pastes and what some of those whole (shelled) chestnuts sometimes looks like, they’re an ashy brown colour, not the reddish mahogany of the chestnut shells, and definitely not ‘MAROON’, which is an entirely different colour.
The ‘Marron’ colour she receive could arguably be that ashy grey brown that she got, which means she just didn’t understand what colour she was getting. Unless of course she picked the colour from a display booklet and that display showed the colour as a reddish brown or actual maroon colour and she got ashy brown instead.
I rather feel this is a misunderstanding in the same vein of ‘macaron’ =/= ‘macaroon’ (they sound similar but are entirely different cookies/biscuits).

This psychiatrist would have 100% been trained around a concept we call "scope of practice" which every clinician and health practitioner on the planet is familiar with. Basically, it means we only treat people and dispense health advice around the things we have been specifically trained to do within our respective field. Anyone with a medical or science based accreditation who you catch stepping outside of their "scope of practice" should immediately be dismissed as unprofessional and unreliable, in my opinion.

When i worked 12 hr shifts, not allowed to sit except for my breaks, doing hard manual labor at a factory for 8 months, i got blisters under my big and pinkie toenails on both sides and actually ended up having my entire pinkie toenails detatch. They grew back unevenly (split into 2 sections growing at different rates) and it actually took a full 18 months to fully recover and have my nails growing evenly. The nails on my pinkie toes are twice as thick as they used to be, and my big toes' nails still occasionally detach in the center despite having properly fitted shoes.

Thank you for shedding a light onto this. I'm not a super regular viewer of yours but I WISH people, especially influencers, were more critical about what they watch and then show their audience. Huberman is just another example of someone stepping waaaaaay out of their expertise, even his guests! It's crazy to me how people can just sit there and think "sounds legit, Imma do all of this now." Like what? As a first semester in psychology it's so interesting to me how many biases we come across in these situations. I'm not quite sure what's ther right terminology but there is a fallacy where people believe a thing is true just because it "makes sense naturally". Just because something seems mechanically correct, e.g. "skin absorbs cremes", doesn't mean that it completely absorbs it into the body. There is many of those "mechanical" fallacies in medicine that people believe in and a lot of doctors that don't know anything about other fields argue like that. It's kinda like when kids learn that four legs and hair makes a dog, so when they see a cat they first say, "oh look, a dog!" LOL
It's crazy how I learn in my first semester (and I believe almost all students do ...) to be critical and be aware of biases, while doctors on the internet seem to be like credibility go brrrr just for the heck of it. It drives me crazy because in the end you can't blame "regular" people to believe doctors because "they seem credible", not everyone can be hyper aware of themselves, but that very thing makes it soso easy to influence and scam unknowing people. Rant over, it all bothers me so much, so thank you again for showing us how to be more aware ... the AI google search as a "source" is insane D:

Can confirm, in the current paradigm of highly specialised doctors, most know very little (if anything) outside their areas of expertise. And by the time you are 10-20 years in a specific subspecialty, your knowledge about other areas are very rudimentary (and outdated from medical school 20-30 years ago!).
I used to be amazed by how little the different surgical and clinical specialists know about diseases from other specialties - some don't recognise the names of diseases, especially with all the new entities and advances in molecular classification. Think about it. He's trying to medicalize a people he does not like and who he could be seeing in his office and trying to talk out of being trans. This type of person should not be anyone's psychiatrist. Imagine trying to go through the hoops of being approved for hrt or surgeries and you have a psychiatrist who keeps telling you that it's all that sunscreen and fragrances that you're wearing that makes you feel like a girl and you just have to stop doing all that girly stuff and you'll stop feeling like a girl. I had toxicology as a paper in my University, and the topic of hormone disruptor ensued panic in me. I was hypervigilant of any cosmetic I used and was on the "paraben free" mania at that time because of a research paper our teacher referenced.
But with time I realised, that data is outdated.. because the research was based on the chemicals/products itself.. the quantity taken for that experiments was more when compared to what is actually used in skincare and cosmetics or any other products. So it's unlikely, cosmetic formulators will put harmful level of hormone disrupting chemicals in their products.
So yes, the issue of hormone disruption is not fake.. and our skin does absorb chemicals..
However, the chemicals itself aren't the culprits, it's the quantity and dosage.
Anything is toxic when it's consumed in excess.

Sooo unrelated but you were in a dream of mine last night on a show based in Spain that did celebrity interviews. Spoke Spanish and everything. You were talking to a movie star and it was a vibe.

The gel mani thing is basically faulty product! Bad batch! I have had this experience with a trusted brand, took the builder gel off within 24 hours and only had mild reaction, but leaving it would have been chemical burn! Overfiling or heat damage from curing gels that do cause heat spike (NOT all brands!!) wouldn't go this hard 😭
I hope she warned the salon so they could pull the product and might have even got a compensation from the gel brand. Communication is so important.

Have had that nail condition secondary to, of all things, my second EBV infection and lost both my thumb nails and first fingers. The fingers grew back fine in several months, but the nail beds on my thumbs have never been right since - nearly 30 years at this point. My GP back then thinks the EBV left me open to nail bed damage and, given I lost half my hair the first time round (and I lost hair again with Covid), I’m just susceptible to my hair/nails being affected by severe infections, plus I’ve got MCAS so I’m really prone to allergy issues.

Ok, dermaplaning really does make a huge difference in my skin and how my makeup sits but you’re correct about the tools. I have cut myself in the process and they can be irritating. Important to get good ones and make sure everything you’re using it super clean including your hands and face.

Yes, you can absorb things through your skin and into your bloodstream, a process called dermal absorption. Chemicals, such as pesticides, organic solvents, nicotine, hormones, and some medications, can be absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream.
Here are some things to know about skin absorption:
    Absorption vs. penetration
Skin penetration is when a molecule passes through the skin's outermost layer, but doesn't reach the bloodstream. Absorption is when a molecule passes through the epidermis and dermis and into the bloodstream.
    Absorption rate
The rate at which something is absorbed depends on how quickly it passes through the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis. Lipid-soluble chemicals pass through this layer faster.
    Filtering out absorbed ingredients
The body can usually filter out ingredients that are absorbed through the skin, but some compounds, like lead and mercury, can't be filtered out.
    Vitamins
Vitamins are more effectively absorbed from the inside of the body, not through the skin.

What is this beef tallow skincare insanity? 😂 I watched a video recently about McDonald's french fries being designed to be addictive and they used to fry them in beef tallow but now it is all "unhealthy seed oils" and other chemicals making them so addictive. But at the end of this video they started to shill their own skincare beef tallow products, I thought it was a damn parody! They were putting lavender oil in some of the face creams as well ! Nooooo! How is skincare going backwards 😭😭😭

A couple of plastic surgeons I followed on my old account (made a new one this week and subscribed to you immediately), do skin care content and sell products. One of them, Dr Anthony Youn has recently made a video rife with misinformation, ad for his own products included. It is so disappointing. I would trust your well-researched and cited word over his for skincare any day.
ETA: this is UA-cam I'm talking about.

I did two nail courses years back and I never understood why people clip the cuticle skin. Thankfully I never had any to clip, so people at college used to skip that step with me. Sometimes when I use gel, my cuticles get unbelievably itchy!

I completely sympathize with the nail girl. I had gel nails and they were grown out and I couldnt get in with my nail tech so I went where I could. The nail tech had no sanitized tools and she filled my nails down to NOTHING, and cut me with clippers several times. She didnt even clean them up so they were sharp on the edges and broke almost instantly. I eventually gave up and cut them down and it took MONTHS for them to heal. I get that nails under gel are fragile but this was insane
