In my culture, it is quite the opposite actually, frowning and not being happy will actually make your wrinkles worse than smiling or at least that's the superstition in my culture.
If laughing adds wrinkles to my face then those are the most beautiful wrinkles I can have. I hope my most inset wrinkles are laugh and smile lines instead of brow furrows
My brother ended his life at 16, and never got the chance to wrinkle. Having wrinkles is a privilege and I am grateful for every little wrinkle I have, even at 24. Every wrinkle I get is one my brother never will.

Hearing her saying that women are more attracted to guys who are standing in the rain romantically than guys with muscles reminded me of the time a girl in my Engineering class said “He has to be taller than me, like even when I’m in high heels. I would literally leave him at the altar if I was wearing high heels and he was shorter.” I feel like the unrealistic body standards go both ways.

Just as many young women are putting so much stock into their youth, many young men are also putting too much stock into their appearance, especially height. While the marginalization is not nearly as deep or concerning (aside from the horrible height increasing procedure) the internet seems to be rapidly accelerating all young peoples negative perception of themselves. As a 32 yr old short guy, I can say height and age are not nearly as important as simply living life and not worrying. People, youth especially, really need to understand that the beauty standards portrayed by the internet, media, and ignorant loud mouths should mostly be ignored. I say mostly because I think it is beneficial to preserve youth through healthy natural means such as exercise, avoiding cigarettes, excessive alcohol consumption, stress etc. I wish I spent more of my youth less worried about my appearance and height, I know I would have been much happier and more successful with dating. There is an attractiveness that comes from not caring so much about what how you look or how you're perceived. A guy standing in the rain romantically doesn't care how tall he is, what his hair looks like, or how many wrinkles anyone has, he doesn't even care if his socks are wet. It's sad because there are many young men that think themselves as almost less than human for being short, and many young women that will have a literal mental breakdown when they inevitably get their first wrinkle, and none of it really matters.

The epidermis has more layers in men (literally have thicker skin) which means they get less sun damage and therefore age more slowly. Also why women bruise more easily than men! As a kid, I remember meeting my great aunt, and thinking "I've never seen someone so wrinkly!" After a few minutes, she laughed at something and all her winkles moved into a smile, and I realised all her wrinkles were from laughing so much through her life, and since being that little, I've always hoped that when I'm wrinkly, it's all from smiling and laughing

This hits so close to home. My mother used a lot of anti-aging products over the years. Turns out she didn't need to do that, she wouldn't be able to grow old in the end. She suddenly died at the age of 47.
The scary thing is these women all think 30s and 40s is old and wrinkled and it's not. It is just not reality. The fact that the beauty industry has convinced so many women the only way to be loved and adored in life is to spend thousands of dollars on scam products and the fact that other women so willingly use them to make claims they work knowing it's a lie really is awful.
There's a song from (I think) the 1930s "Keep young and beautiful It's your duty to be beautiful Keep young and beautiful If you want to be loved" Now I'm an 80s baby, and even in the 90s that was being used in adverts. exactly. my mom is in her late 40s, and i only call her old when i'm joking around and teasing her (all in good fun), i don't actually think she's old. she's not wrinkled at all or anything, neither is my dad, they don't look the youngest but they DEFINITELY don't look geriatric by any means. they just look middle aged at the most, they look their age, maybe a little younger. and even if they did look older it wouldn't be a problem. i hate that looking old is considered such a bad thing because it really isn't, it just shows that you've lived.

My mom always says that she used to be afraid to get wrinkles until she met someone who had terminal cancer. That lady was a mother and she knew she would never see the age of 40 and never get to grow old. She had to write her kids letters for them to read at important milestones because she wasn’t going to be there. So after that, my mom was grateful to be able to get wrinkles because the alternative was worse.

Yep, probably! Most "made for TV" items are disability aids marketed to a larger audience. Like foot scrubbers for a shower, it isn't some "hack"; it's for people who can't bend down to reach their feet. Or folks who use shower chairs who can't move their legs. It's a shame that aids have to be marketed towards the public to be affordable ://
yeah, a lot of weird products you see and think "who would ever need that?" are targeted towards the disabled and elderly but are marketed toward general audiences, it's really strange when you think about how they don't market those things more toward people who actually use them

My sister passed away at 30 from cancer and she said something that completely changed how I look at aging. She said not everyone gets the privilege to age!
She is right. My mother had a sister who died after a liver transplant at the age of 9. It’s depressing how people take life and being able to experience it’s beautiful moments for granted.

Same! I just turned 33 and I didn't expect to even make it to 20. I've seen myself getting older and I see the signs of aging as such a blessing because I actually made it this far and am still going.
As much as I don't understand trying to defy your own genetics (aka how fast you'll "age" physically), I personally am trying not to look older, as it's the people who always try to treat me as an "adult" despite being a naive minor all because i look and act "old for my age" is the reason why I even wanted to d!e in the first place. Seeing myself age and be reminded of those people make me deeply uncomfortable for some reason. Then again who knows, it's different for everyone.

I agree with the Botox theory, as a person who is interested in poison and its history, Botox is relativity not harmful in small amounts, but you can get poisoned from it. It makes your face frozen and if you get too many injections of it, slowly it may start to kill you. Beware of Botox and stay safe!

I try really hard to keep toxic beauty stuff away from my girls. I still remember being 5 and flipping through a magazine that showed grown women pinching their belly rolls and thinking, "But that's what my tummy looks like." and sadly deciding something was bad about my tummy. I was not even an overweight child. I developed a mild eating disorder and got down to 118 pounds even though I was/am 5'9 and the fucked up thing is people were always telling me I looked incredible and asked if I was a model when I was starving lol.

My mom didn't get to get old. She died young of cancer. That has really affected my feelings around aging. Time is a gift. Wrinkles are a sign you've made it a long time in a very difficult world.
I'm surprised how many times "not drinking when thirsty" comes up; dehydration is terrible for your body AND skin, it would definitely make you age faster

A good rule of thumb for the amount of water you **need** to drink daily while sedentary (but you should always aim for more, exercise and heat can double that requirement) is 1ml for every 1 cal you need to maintain your weight. The rest, assuming you eat a relatively normal diet, should be able to come from your food. For example: To maintain my current weight, I eat about 1500 calories a day, so that's 1.5 liters of water **required** to stay reasonably healthy. What I should aim for is about 2 liters, 2.5L-3L if I'm exercising a lot
Maybe it stems from some people just not drinking water and instead some things that are bad for your health? The amount of Tiktoks I see about people not wanting to drink water cause they don’t like it and thus not doing it is scary. To be fair American water (even bottled or filtered) tastes like crap compared to the water in my hometown but I was lucky enough to grow up in an area with great tab water (and German bottled water is somehow a lot better than American bottled water I really wonder what stuff they put i their water)

As someone with extreme ocd who’s gotten much more help from it since being diagnosed, this girl seems to have extreme ocd with that. It’s her biggest hyper fixation on worries. It manifests from her fears, making her look more creepy than young or youthful. It’s really sad

When I was a teen there was one time I was waiting for my mom in the waiting room of a medspa and one of the employees asked me if I was waiting for an appointment and I was like "Oh no, I'm only 16" and they said "Well, it's never too young to start!" Very cool to try to make a *teenager* self conscious about aging for your own personal profit!

One time, I saw a 14 year old girl use anti-aging serum and it was honestly sad to see that a young girl to use those serums when she doesn’t need them.

Also most of that doesn't work if it's OTC, actual wrinkle prevention comes from Retin-A and it's RX only because it's extremely drying and you aren't supposed to have sun exposure for 24hrs after using bcuz it can burn the skin
I’m 15 years old, and I like to steal my moms anti aging cream, one because I have really bad deep eye bags, and cause it has sunscreen In it and it doesn’t feel like regular sunscreen.

@babydyke I mean, if the ingredient list is good, then that kind of skincare is still good, even for young skin. It's just that it does nothing anti-aging because there's nothing to anti-age. Plus, yeah, it's definitely sad to see a child thinking they already need to do sth about their future probable wrinkles and fine lines. But if she used the serum just cuz she researched ingredients online, found them to be medically proven and thought it'd be a good one to use, there's no problem (was the case for an18 yo me baaack in high school, I have dry skin and so I was looking for certain ingredients I knew my skin liked in one package, only found them in an "anti aging" cream, which was just a nice hydrating moisturizer). Also, retinol, as u said, is one of the very best, but it's more than 24 hours, it's several days (5?7?) during which u should limit sun exposure and wear a strong enough sunscreen - it makes your skin a bit more sensitive to the sun but sun protection is imperative for skin cancer prevention anyways, so for many it doesn’t change much. I believe it's a good thing to take care of your skin at any age, it simply shouldn't be done out of fear but out of love. And definitely not by stripping yourself of expressing emotion or buying stupid-looking straws😂😂😂😂
I saw a womans picture go "viral" years and years ago. her face was almost wrinkle free and people wanted to know her secret. She said she made the decision to not smile or show emotion in her 20's to preserve her face. It broke my heart.
i used to worry about aging and would vocalise it, but older gays who remember the AIDs pandemic would be like "stfu being gay and old is a gift we didn't think we'd ever get" and it humbled me really quick
I hate that they made the aids epidemic the fault of gays. I remember being young and getting a glimpse of my mother watching an AIDS documentary and seeing a gay nightclub visual. So although it affected the gay community differently I hate that they have made it a “gay disease” as I’ve heard. But yes it makes me so happy to see that those in the community have been able to live their lives, marry those they love, and become accepted in our society. As it always should have been! I just appreciate being born in a time where we were taught to use common sense.
My grandma was turning 70 this year and she's stunning and when i was insecure about my smile lines she said it was a sign i lived happily and she said aging is a great thing because it's proving you live long
As an "old lady" (in my 40s), let me tell you - I have earned every single laugh line, and I wouldn't trade the good times in my life for a flawless face. My memories are of me enjoying time with friends, kids, and family, not concentrating on not wrinkling my eyebrows. If you're young, enjoy the time, enjoy the laughs, enjoy the cries. Be there, and don't worry what it MIGHT do to your face in 20 years.

my mom was adorable with aging : she stopped dyeing her hair when she found a white hair and she keeps saying how she loves these hair because they look like silver thread. idk i just find that very endearing
My mom decided to dye her hair around the same time she started getting a lot of grays. She didn’t dye the gray hairs. She dyed the underside of her hair blue.

I once got in an argument with my mom over her grey hair. She hated them and I had to take weeks to get the same color. I love grey hair. Especially the silvery grey! Her hair was almost white silver. So gorgeous. AND SHE DYED IT FACKING BROWN!! I was in middle school, high school, and very early college when men the age of my father would roll down their windows and literally bark at me or whistle. I'm only 24 now but I barely get cat called anymore because I look more mature- even when wearing graphic t-shirts or youthful clothing. I never ever get cat called when wearing work or mature clothes. It's because I look like an adult. Creeps don't like that.

It gets even more upsetting when you realize that a lot of the beauty standards that young girls and women are pressured or even forced to adhere to are rooted in p*dophilia. Young, no signs of aging, oftentimes skinny and short, hairless, somehow sexually experienced without ever having had sexual partners, the way distinctly childlike things like “daddy” as a nickname and schoolgirls’ outfits have been sexualized, “teen” and “barely legal” being acceptable and even popular porn categories. And now young girls are being convinced that they aren’t young and youthful enough. It’s sick and deeply predatory.
it goes beyond anti wrinkles too, it ventures into the sexualization of young girls. wanting to look young and have no wrinkles, but at the same time sexualizing your body and making yourself look older with makeup for men and boys alike. I'm really sad my fellow youngsters are so worried about aging, we should be focused on all the possibilities for the future! If you're terrified of aging then you won't experience everything to the fullest. I'd rather laugh and have fun with my friends than freak out over laughter causing smile lines. I refuse to sexualize myself, and I will wear whatever I feel comfortable in. Then again I'm sex averse so that part isn't surprising...

I always remember when my dads friend told me women shouldn't exist if they're single past the age of 24 and if you were "that old" as a single woman you might as well jump off the top of the highest building you can find. He told me I was young and perfect and he wishes his wife had some of my youth so he'd actually be attracted to her. I was 12 at the time and he was a creep. I heard a few years back that his wife divorced him and got everything, honestly good for her.

I had silver hair once when it was ✨trendy✨ and worked as a cashier at the time. So many older ladies complimented my hair and said it made them feel better about theirs. They couldn’t believe someone young wanted silver hair like theirs it made me happy for them to see that their hair was still beautiful 😄
As a woman who does look young for her age (genuinely not a brag and you'll see why), I cannot describe the levels of skeeve I feel when a 30-40 something year old man hits on me and expects me to be in my teens. When I ultimately tell them my actual age (26) they look at all surprised and disappointed. I've even had one guy say "Well, you're older than most girls I talk to" right to my face. Did you actually want me to be a borderline child?? What the actual hell! 🤬
I look younger for my age, and my beef with it at times is when people think they can talk to me like I'm a child. Older folks talk down to me just like they did when I WAS 22 and it absolutely infuriates me. One thing that even happened recently is I was giving advice to someone at my place of work about skincare, and she called me cute and pat me on the head. But I bet she wouldn't do that to someone who she looked at and thought, "that's clearly a 30 year old woman" but bc she thought it seemed "cute" to disrespect someone she assumed was younger, I got treated like a lap dog 🙄
I'm 29 and people have told me that they think I'm somewhere between 19 - 26. Especially when I have my makeup done and I'm dressed in my normal gothic witchy style. But I've also had men be disappointed when they realize my age and when I was younger (like actually 15 - 18) adult men would hit on me because I looked older. It was always gross and even now, it's super icky. I've even been talked down to because of someone thinking I was a teenager.

Yeah I remember my coworker was telling me to check if there was any excess sunscreen on her face. My boss (50) was overhearing the conversation and he was like “Why are you wearing sunscreen?” And I said “It’s because UV rays cause wrinkles and aging.” He said “What’s wrong with aging? Aging is a good thing like with wine” What he said really resonated with me. It was relieving to hear someone say that aging is ok
I think that mostly women conditioned to fear aging. Because it’s always “anti ageing cream FOR WOMEN”, baby face trend for women, no body hair for women and also there were only young girls in this video. There’s no such standard for men, men can age and more so it considered good, they are portrayed as cool successful. That makes me sad tbh 😤😢

I enjoy basic skincare and avoid going outside when the UV levels are above 2 because I got a lot of sun exposure as a child with abusive, neglectful parents. Aging used to terrify me but not anymore.

As an Australian in her 30s, there's only one piece of skincare advice that I follow and people should really listen to: WEAR SUNSCREEN. I still see so many young women not wearing any at all, and you seriously need to start that shit as early as possible.
Consider this: I cannot even wear lotion due to how it feels _in_ my skin (even when I use a small amount and rub it in fully) I'll try to see if I can get my hands on spray on sunscreen, since the bug repellent I use doesn't affect me too badly, but it's not guaranteed that I'll be able to tolerate it. Until then, I only have access to the "normal" kind of sunscreen lol

The fact the people think that looking old is disgusting, is SO creepy, why do you want us to look like a child? A women aging is seen as ‘gross’ nowadays, and as they’ve already said, most anti-aging products are marketed towards women so they look younger and more youthful. While taking care of your skin IS a good thing (I.e. using moisturizer and sunscreen to keep your skin hydrated and protected against the danger of skin cancer), spending countless dollars on beauty products and treatments to reduce wrinkles is honestly just depressing to contemplate (like, doing it because you _enjoy_ it does not compare to doing because you fear being treated subhumanly due to looking older). Aging well is a beautiful way to show you live a full life, taking care of one's skin doesn't have to mean trying constantly to erase any sign you aged at all... unfortunately society still prefers anyone who looks female to look as young as possible (to the point where it can dip into uncanny valley territory). Also, an amazing and simple way to help keep skin healthy _without_ all the skin creams is literally just drinking plenty of clean water so overall you're healthier and your skin is more elastic. I know not everyone in the world has access to clean drinking water (which is frankly heartbreaking), but for anyone who _does_ have the option to drink plenty of water, it really does help!
And the beauty industry has made it so easy to do which is the horrifying part. I got a pretty bad sunburn a few years back on my forehead and all I wanted was a basic moisturizer to help it heal and, holy hell, trying to find one that wasn't upwards of $20 was insane.

I’m 52 feeling 25! I own every wrinkle and scar as a very exciting and well lived life. Knowing many Gen Z and Millennials keeps me young on the inside. What happened to just wearing sunscreen every day, using moisturizer, and eye cream? If I have to spend more than 10 minutes doing skin care-and that includes removing makeup and washing my face-I’m immediately not interested.
I totally agree. I mean I cleanse and apply moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning, then cleanse and apply retinol and moisturiser in the evening. It takes all of 5 minutes and I think that's plenty. If I layered a hundred and one products, I'd get so bored.

This reminds me if that video of a woman who remodels plastic dolls to make them realistic. One of her method is to spray some color to the face for some blemishes to make them look natural. This gives me the realization that a natural skin is not shiny and is not a strictly even all throughout the body.

I have a genetic syndrome that affects my heart, joints, and stomach, on average most people live to 40-50 with it. Unless I am lucky, I won’t age past 50. It is a privilege to age, it shows how long you’ve been here and everything you’ve done. Worrying about aging is silly since it’s something that will happen to all of us. It’s a beautiful thing to show how far you’ve come. (Also I’m not depressed about this I’ve known about it for awhile)

I watched a mini bio following the day of a Japanese woman who was 50+ but literally looked 20. At the start, everyone was really eager to see how she managed this and jealous and ready to do it themselves....and then they saw her routine. You could feel them stepping back and thinking "this is insane". She spent hours and hours a day on her face. She'd use this roller thing for a straight hour. Then don all of this goop on her face, cover it in a terrifying mask, and wear it as she did all of her chores and just hung around the house. When she went outside, she had this whole darth vader looking face shield. She may have looked 20, but only in 10 minute increments when she wasn't covered in stuff or actively working on her face.
I think I watched this, wasn't she a housewife? I'm almost sure it was some sort of NHK or official Japanese program on UA-cam, but I couldn't find it, I'd love to find it again lol
And all of those laughs felt like such awesome moments, some even made great memories for years to come, funny moments are spontaneous and not common, they can make our whole day sometimes - but what do they get with their anti aging, anti smiling campaign, they get emptiness and sadness, no thank you

I've always found it perturbing how feminine beauty standards are realted to fertility and childhood. Big chest, big hips, no leg or arm hair, no stretch marks, plain stomach, being short... The beauty standards are related to childhood and fertility, but instead of looking like we already had child we're supposed to look like we're still waiting to get pregnant. I'm still more worried about the fact that the parts where they want us to have child traits
i’m literally an esthetician and it’s so hard for me to explain to clients that aging is normal and nothing to be alarmed about, that being said it’s important to remember sunscreen is not just for preventing premature wrinkles, but to prevent skin cancer, we will have the same skin for the rest of our lives so it’s important to take care of it, but wrinkles will happen whether you like it or not
I had a chemistry teacher in high school who would be out of class every couple weeks because she had to go get skin cancer removed from spots on her face. She said growing up in the late 50s/early 60s Southeast (US), sunscreen wasn’t really used. She stressed the importance of moisturizer and sunscreen to us not for anti-aging purposes, but because it’s really important to protect your skin against the sun and help it heal.
When I was a baby artist I couldn't figure out why all my characters looked the same with different hair then I realised it's cause I needed to give them *life*. They need wrinkles and pores and scars and moles, it makes them unique and beautiful

I'm a biology major and dudebros claiming "It's just biology that causes me to creep on young women" is such bullshit. There is way more to sexuality and mate selection than perceived fertility. In fact, male baboons have been observed rejecting younger female baboons for being "low status" by baboon standards, which varies by troop. I'd recommend to anyone interested to read "A Primates Memoir" by Robert Sapolsky, great book with some excellent perspectives from a dork ass biologist in the field :-)
When I was in my early 20s, I used to give a little credence to these dudebros' assertions. I would still think the behavior was creepy and something to be resisted, but mostly natural. Now that I'm 30, I realize that I do NOT find people in their early 20s all that attractive. I like the look of people my own age, because I associate it with equal mental maturity and experience. I see people who are 21 and think of them more as a younger person. An adult with residual teen brain. I just don't feel attraction to them. I realize how full of shit the 30-something men who go for young women are.
This whole argument is strange from both sides to me. We don't need data from bonobos, or birds, or any other animal. We have plenty of data to show us that Male Homosapiens have ( on average) always preferred younger women. That doesn't make it ethical or ok, but I don't understand why people are trying to argue that there isn't a biological imperative. Why can't we accept the reality that it is biologically driven and then work forward from that? Humans have overcome their own biological pitfalls time and time again. But we'll never overcome it if we pretend it doesn't exist.

32. It’s hard to shake it, it stays hard to shake it especially as you grow older and begin seeing changes to your skin. But, that said, when I see grays or lines, it does still kind of make me sad to think about (not because I’m aging in terms of looks, but because my life is aging… time… you know?). Idk I feel like as long as you have things to look back on or directly at, to ground yourself, it makes it all worth it and more. Like my lines from laughing with my kid and partner, grays because of a job I love no matter how stressful it can be, etc. you know?
As a 14 year old who does use skincare, I don’t use it to “delay the aging process” I use it to help heal acne and actually care for my skin rather than to look “youthful” when if 50 or something. It’s ok for teens to use skincare as long as they’re actually using safe products for kids and not for concerns about their appearance 30 years in the future

My skincare is pretty much moisturiser I sometimes remember to use and acne cream that I remember to use even less. Pretty much “if it shouldn’t look like that, do something about it otherwise too much effort.”
I follow a skincare routine because I actually want to start caring for my health,although skincare is mostly viewed as esthetics. My skin has never suffered any acne or eczema,however I have neglected it from the proper care and now I genuinely want to start caring for myself...of course not in the sense to look youthful forever.
Honestly, if some of them feared death, then they wouldn't go through some of these procedures to turn back this hypothetical clock. Their idea of staying "youthful and timeless" completely trumps the idea of dying. I think some of them would want to die young because at least they'd retain a "youthful look". It's very sad.
Trying to prevent the signs of aging always felt the same to me as people who have those aesthetic model homes that look like a magazine photo, devoid of life or personality. I want my home, and my body, to look lived-in, comfortable, and enjoyed.

Maybe it was just particularly idealized by my parents, but I'm actually happy with aging, particularly in the sense of "growing old with" my husband. He's starting to get silver in his beard and hair and get wrinkles around his eyes from how much of his nearly 40 years he has spent laughing, and I love it so much. I'm a little heavier than I was before and I'm noticing some laugh line wrinkles, and he loves it just as much. It's just nice to be going with him on this journey. My parents had a picture of them captioned with, "Come and grow old with me, the best is yet to be." Sadly my mom has put that away since my dad's death a couple years ago. He was just under 61, and it hurts her they didn't get to grow older together than that. Just one more thing that makes me treasure aging.

In my culture, it is quite the opposite actually, frowning and not being happy will actually make your wrinkles worse than smiling or at least that's the superstition in my culture.

My mom always says that she used to be afraid to get wrinkles until she met someone who had terminal cancer. That lady was a mother and she knew she would never see the age of 40 and never get to grow old. She had to write her kids letters for them to read at important milestones because she wasn’t going to be there. So after that, my mom was grateful to be able to get wrinkles because the alternative was worse.

I agree with the Botox theory, as a person who is interested in poison and its history, Botox is relativity not harmful in small amounts, but you can get poisoned from it. It makes your face frozen and if you get too many injections of it, slowly it may start to kill you. Beware of Botox and stay safe!

I try really hard to keep toxic beauty stuff away from my girls. I still remember being 5 and flipping through a magazine that showed grown women pinching their belly rolls and thinking, "But that's what my tummy looks like." and sadly deciding something was bad about my tummy. I was not even an overweight child. I developed a mild eating disorder and got down to 118 pounds even though I was/am 5'9 and the fucked up thing is people were always telling me I looked incredible and asked if I was a model when I was starving lol.
The really creepy thing about men wanting to date woman who could be their daughters is not only the age gap, but also the power imbalance of those relationships.

My mom didn't get to get old. She died young of cancer. That has really affected my feelings around aging. Time is a gift. Wrinkles are a sign you've made it a long time in a very difficult world.

A good rule of thumb for the amount of water you **need** to drink daily while sedentary (but you should always aim for more, exercise and heat can double that requirement) is 1ml for every 1 cal you need to maintain your weight. The rest, assuming you eat a relatively normal diet, should be able to come from your food.
For example:
To maintain my current weight, I eat about 1500 calories a day, so that's 1.5 liters of water **required** to stay reasonably healthy. What I should aim for is about 2 liters, 2.5L-3L if I'm exercising a lot

Also most of that doesn't work if it's OTC, actual wrinkle prevention comes from Retin-A and it's RX only because it's extremely drying and you aren't supposed to have sun exposure for 24hrs after using bcuz it can burn the skin

@babydyke I mean, if the ingredient list is good, then that kind of skincare is still good, even for young skin. It's just that it does nothing anti-aging because there's nothing to anti-age. Plus, yeah, it's definitely sad to see a child thinking they already need to do sth about their future probable wrinkles and fine lines. But if she used the serum just cuz she researched ingredients online, found them to be medically proven and thought it'd be a good one to use, there's no problem (was the case for an18 yo me baaack in high school, I have dry skin and so I was looking for certain ingredients I knew my skin liked in one package, only found them in an "anti aging" cream, which was just a nice hydrating moisturizer). Also, retinol, as u said, is one of the very best, but it's more than 24 hours, it's several days (5?7?) during which u should limit sun exposure and wear a strong enough sunscreen - it makes your skin a bit more sensitive to the sun but sun protection is imperative for skin cancer prevention anyways, so for many it doesn’t change much. I believe it's a good thing to take care of your skin at any age, it simply shouldn't be done out of fear but out of love. And definitely not by stripping yourself of expressing emotion or buying stupid-looking straws😂😂😂😂

As an "old lady" (in my 40s), let me tell you - I have earned every single laugh line, and I wouldn't trade the good times in my life for a flawless face. My memories are of me enjoying time with friends, kids, and family, not concentrating on not wrinkling my eyebrows. If you're young, enjoy the time, enjoy the laughs, enjoy the cries. Be there, and don't worry what it MIGHT do to your face in 20 years.

I had silver hair once when it was ✨trendy✨ and worked as a cashier at the time. So many older ladies complimented my hair and said it made them feel better about theirs. As a woman who does look young for her age (genuinely not a brag and you'll see why), I cannot describe the levels of skeeve I feel when a 30-40 something year old man hits on me and expects me to be in my teens. I'm 29 and people have told me that they think I'm somewhere between 19 - 26. Especially when I have my makeup done and I'm dressed in my normal gothic witchy style. But I've also had men be disappointed when they realize my age and when I was younger (like actually 15 - 18) adult men would hit on me because I looked older. It was always gross and even now, it's super icky. I've even been talked down to because of someone thinking I was a teenager.

While taking care of your skin IS a good thing (I.e. using moisturizer and sunscreen to keep your skin hydrated and protected against the danger of skin cancer), spending countless dollars on beauty products and treatments to reduce wrinkles is honestly just depressing to contemplate (like, doing it because you _enjoy_ it does not compare to doing because you fear being treated subhumanly due to looking older). Aging well is a beautiful way to show you live a full life, taking care of one's skin doesn't have to mean trying constantly to erase any sign you aged at all... unfortunately society still prefers anyone who looks female to look as young as possible (to the point where it can dip into uncanny valley territory).
Also, an amazing and simple way to help keep skin healthy _without_ all the skin creams is literally just drinking plenty of clean water so overall you're healthier and your skin is more elastic. I know not everyone in the world has access to clean drinking water (which is frankly heartbreaking), but for anyone who _does_ have the option to drink plenty of water, it really does help!
And the beauty industry has made it so easy to do which is the horrifying part. I got a pretty bad sunburn a few years back on my forehead and all I wanted was a basic moisturizer to help it heal and, holy hell, trying to find one that wasn't upwards of $20 was insane.
I give no fs if people want to do that. Doesn't effect you or me. Having a problem with people wanting to look younger is quite ironic! Whats the problem? That they'll make you look older in contrast? This "problem" shouldn't even be on our radar.

I totally agree. I mean I cleanse and apply moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning, then cleanse and apply retinol and moisturiser in the evening. It takes all of 5 minutes and I think that's plenty. If I layered a hundred and one products, I'd get so bored.
Wearing sunscreen in of itself is so important to prevent skin cancer, which I'd say is a lot scarier then a couple wrinkles 😭

This reminds me if that video of a woman who remodels plastic dolls to make them realistic. One of her method is to spray some color to the face for some blemishes to make them look natural. This gives me the realization that a natural skin is not shiny and is not a strictly even all throughout the body.

I have a genetic syndrome that affects my heart, joints, and stomach, on average most people live to 40-50 with it. Unless I am lucky, I won’t age past 50. It is a privilege to age, it shows how long you’ve been here and everything you’ve done. Worrying about aging is silly since it’s something that will happen to all of us. It’s a beautiful thing to show how far you’ve come. (Also I’m not depressed about this I’ve known about it for awhile)

I've always wondered the same thing. I have a baby face and everyone thinks I'm 12 or 13 when I'm almost 30, it's honestly annoying. I've had total strangers in public try to lecture me about smoking because they think I'm a kid. 😮💨
I watched a cartoon show that has an episode about teenagers freaking out acne or pimples on their face and they apply different kinds of cream and natural ways to get rid of it.
You dont understand? Go to nearest hospice, or hospital, and ask some people with chronic illnesses, maybe then you'll understand that aging is more than just grey hair and a bit of wrinkles.

I watched a mini bio following the day of a Japanese woman who was 50+ but literally looked 20. At the start, everyone was really eager to see how she managed this and jealous and ready to do it themselves....and then they saw her routine. You could feel them stepping back and thinking "this is insane". She spent hours and hours a day on her face. She'd use this roller thing for a straight hour. Then don all of this goop on her face, cover it in a terrifying mask, and wear it as she did all of her chores and just hung around the house. When she went outside, she had this whole darth vader looking face shield. She may have looked 20, but only in 10 minute increments when she wasn't covered in stuff or actively working on her face.

And all of those laughs felt like such awesome moments, some even made great memories for years to come, funny moments are spontaneous and not common, they can make our whole day sometimes - but what do they get with their anti aging, anti smiling campaign, they get emptiness and sadness, no thank you

But the Barbie movie had a fantastic scene where Barbie, aka Margot Robbie, sat on a bench next to a very elderly woman. She stared at her with a smile for a moment, they caught eyes, and Margot said "You're so beautiful". And the woman went "I know it!". And they both smiled and laughed together.

Aging is just a form of change. Life is all about taking a never ending journey of change, and death is life's inseparable twin. Which means if you truly want to embrace life you must also fully accept the inevitability of aging and dying.
What annoys me most is tiktokers claiming their extravagant skincare routine is what is anti-aging them when they’re GETTING BOTOX

I've always found it perturbing how feminine beauty standards are realted to fertility and childhood. Big chest, big hips, no leg or arm hair, no stretch marks, plain stomach, being short... The beauty standards are related to childhood and fertility, but instead of looking like we already had child we're supposed to look like we're still waiting to get pregnant. I'm still more worried about the fact that the parts where they want us to have child traits
i’m literally an esthetician and it’s so hard for me to explain to clients that aging is normal and nothing to be alarmed about, that being said it’s important to remember sunscreen is not just for preventing premature wrinkles, but to prevent skin cancer, we will have the same skin for the rest of our lives so it’s important to take care of it, but wrinkles will happen whether you like it or not
I had a chemistry teacher in high school who would be out of class every couple weeks because she had to go get skin cancer removed from spots on her face. She said growing up in the late 50s/early 60s Southeast (US), sunscreen wasn’t really used. She stressed the importance of moisturizer and sunscreen to us not for anti-aging purposes, but because it’s really important to protect your skin against the sun and help it heal.
As an artist, I think "flaws" are what make people interesting. Scars and wrinkles tell stories. Why do we idolize keeping a smooth doll-like face?

I'm a biology major and dudebros claiming "It's just biology that causes me to creep on young women" is such bullshit. There is way more to sexuality and mate selection than perceived fertility. In fact, male baboons have been observed rejecting younger female baboons for being "low status" by baboon standards, which varies by troop. I'd recommend to anyone interested to read "A Primates Memoir" by Robert Sapolsky, great book with some excellent perspectives from a dork ass biologist in the field :-)

When I was in my early 20s, I used to give a little credence to these dudebros' assertions. I would still think the behavior was creepy and something to be resisted, but mostly natural. Now that I'm 30, I realize that I do NOT find people in their early 20s all that attractive. I like the look of people my own age, because I associate it with equal mental maturity and experience. I see people who are 21 and think of them more as a younger person. An adult with residual teen brain. I just don't feel attraction to them. I realize how full of shit the 30-something men who go for young women are.
This whole argument is strange from both sides to me. We don't need data from bonobos, or birds, or any other animal. We have plenty of data to show us that Male Homosapiens have ( on average) always preferred younger women. That doesn't make it ethical or ok, but I don't understand why people are trying to argue that there isn't a biological imperative. Why can't we accept the reality that it is biologically driven and then work forward from that? Humans have overcome their own biological pitfalls time and time again. But we'll never overcome it if we pretend it doesn't exist.

The most ironic thing is that this "not using your face muscules" lady got hate because of her wedding video. People were mad because her husband didn't look like a teenager. So basically her husband got hate for "looking old" and she was surprised by this, even tho it's the most logical thing ever. When you have people obsessed with looking as young as possible it's not so shoking. She, in deffence said that those people shouldn't harras people for looking old, while doing the same. We’re social creatures - we’re built to read body language and facial expressions. Facial expressions bring infants comfort, it’s a something most humans are born with.

I'm 28 and honestly I'm glad TIktok and none of this social media existed when I was kid. Facebook arrived when I was a teen. I swear Tiktok is the worst when it comes to beauty standards. Like yes, aging has always been the "enemy" in our society, especially for women. But it wasn't this bad before because we didn't have this massive social media making it worse. I don't use tiktok or any other social media so I can just laugh at these pathetic idiots being terrified of aging. Because the truth is is that you will get old. You cannot stop it. Take good care of your skin yes. But don't fight against something that is completely natural. There is nothing wrong with looking old. Wrinkles will show that you have lived your life. It's better to have a good life and end up with wrinkles than to never laugh and show emotions and have a smooth face. Because in the end it's how you feel on the inside that truly matters

32. It’s hard to shake it, it stays hard to shake it especially as you grow older and begin seeing changes to your skin. But, that said, when I see grays or lines, it does still kind of make me sad to think about (not because I’m aging in terms of looks, but because my life is aging… time… you know?). Idk I feel like as long as you have things to look back on or directly at, to ground yourself, it makes it all worth it and more. Like my lines from laughing with my kid and partner, grays because of a job I love no matter how stressful it can be, etc. you know?

As a 14 year old who does use skincare, I don’t use it to “delay the aging process” I use it to help heal acne and actually care for my skin rather than to look “youthful” when if 50 or something. It’s ok for teens to use skincare as long as they’re actually using safe products for kids and not for concerns about their appearance 30 years in the future

Trying to prevent the signs of aging always felt the same to me as people who have those aesthetic model homes that look like a magazine photo, devoid of life or personality. I want my home, and my body, to look lived-in, comfortable, and enjoyed.
PERFECT ANALOGY my bf’s parents house is like that, no visible shoes everything is white and blue and if u set something down it disappears bc we’re not allowed to have anything out for “someone” to see. No family pictures just flowers and abstract paintings. Not allowed to sit on couch etc. it’s like no one lives there a very tiring existence

Maybe it was just particularly idealized by my parents, but I'm actually happy with aging, particularly in the sense of "growing old with" my husband. He's starting to get silver in his beard and hair and get wrinkles around his eyes from how much of his nearly 40 years he has spent laughing, and I love it so much. I'm a little heavier than I was before and I'm noticing some laugh line wrinkles, and he loves it just as much. It's just nice to be going with him on this journey. My parents had a picture of them captioned with, "Come and grow old with me, the best is yet to be."
Sadly my mom has put that away since my dad's death a couple years ago. He was just under 61, and it hurts her they didn't get to grow older together than that. Just one more thing that makes me treasure aging.
