      She’s worked through it. She didn’t just become well-adjusted. She had a rough ride for a looooong time. Then she decided to get sober and take care of herself. That was a large part of it. I’m positive she’s had therapy, too.

    • @LynnRPerry
      @LynnRPerry Рік тому +5

      You can not change who your parents were when you experienced some horrible treatment to say the least. It is heartbreaking to hear someone admit their childhood was such as yours. You have two choices, you can embrace your experiences and be bold and tell yourself there are positives to every aspect of life or you can wallow in your pain, loneliness and hurt. I sometimes embrace that pain because it is a feeling, a strong emotion that brings on other strong emotions that literally make my body feel better. But down this path is more of the same, and it is a vicious cycle. I found avenues of growth and experiences that built on new experiences to replace those destructive emotions. I hope with all my heart you do the same.

    I didn't have a normal relationship with my mother either and it leaves lasting scars and damage and grief really. When I see mother's holding their daughters hands and complimenting them and saying I love you it almost makes me cry because I never had that. She did everything she could for me in many ways but she was not a motherly person. She said several times that she never really liked children and she said oh I liked my children well enough when I got them. We were her biological children.

      I can also relate to this. My parent's relationship, my mum is the one wanted kids and my dad wasn't very keen. But he was the most sensitive and caring dad ever❤. My mum held back being sensitive and I hardly can remember me and my brother getting hugs or sympathy when we desperately needed that when we were young. Still I love my parents to this day and forever and grateful for everything they do and did. But it will be different for my kids bcz me and my brother lacked that part from my mum and I don't want my kids to feel what I feel and felt.

      As a parent I learned that my parents were absolutely so wrong and the abuse by him and the gaslighting by her was so over the top and being told always that he was the real victim and that “other kids have it so much worse” didn’t make it better and that it wasn’t true anyway-other kids had it different is all. I now cannot believe what all they normalized to protect him (narcissistic psychopath) and her (slightly autistic socially stunted). We kids were under siege every day.

    The odds of Drew turning out like she has despite her circumstances are one in a million, it’s truly incredible. She is a unicorn 🥹💓🙌🏼

    Not all people should be parents. Grateful Drew came out alive and broke the cycle.
    I get it.

    I love how she has evolved. I remember in the early 90’s when she was going crazy flashing David Letterman thinking she was a train wreck and was more likely to end up dead from an OD or something. But like the Phoenix she rose again. I love Drew

    I had a similar experience with my daughter. When my daughter walked away I was not okay with it. My daughter was 15 and I think that was too young and I worried about her decision ALOT.

    So similar as far as with their mothers as her and Brooke's ...drew went down the addiction side..Brooke didn't ...but they both came out of it all so strong and so cool and at a young age so resilient

    I didn't go through all that work. I just left at 16 and she was ok with that. I didn't live with my father and he was ok with that. I wasn't protected at all and it got to the point that either I left or some man may have been severely hurt.. I'm not a movie star, but I made it. Strength is a good thing.

    Drew stands on the opposite side of the fence from me. I disagree with a lot of her views, but she is so cute, talented and smart that you can’t help but love her. I wish her well. She is genuine and not in your face like some celebrities, i. e. Rosie O’Donald or Ellen.
