Hello everyone! Thank you all for your amazing comments on this episode - I'm so happy to know that you enjoyed it! I just wanted to let you know that although the batter seemed 'gloopy' it actually turned out so beautifully and was one of the best sponges I've ever made. All of the recipes are now on my blog - nicolasfairford.com/blogs/news/a-downton-abbey-tea-party
I have that particular Downton Abbey cookbook. The picture of the orange cake you made looks exactly like the picture of it in the book. I'm looking forward to making this one.
I made the chicken tea sandwiches and I used a hearty whole grain bread from the bakery. Nicholas, they were amazingly delicious 😋. I’d use that for a regular chicken salad sandwich or in a lettuce 🥬 wrap. Thanks again for a really fun and creative video 💕
That was wonderful. May I say my parents owned a wonderful restaurant in the 30s and 40s and my mother would do the catering for special functions. She would cut the bread for sandwiches wafer thin. They were incredible . She never left a recipe for stuffed eggs which were to die for. She cooked crayfish and decorated the table with flowers for weddings . I am old now and just wanted to leave a tribute to her.
Beautiful tribute. My mother was a good cook and she was a lovely mother. I am an old lady now but the good memories of my parents are with me every day.

Thank you for your courage in sharing your life with us. You bring dignity and elegance to us all and know we support you in both challenging and festive times, and all the quiet moments in between. I can’t wait to see the movie ! I’ve already ordered my diffuser 😊. I adore greens and lavender color’s. Nicholas, I’d buy an apron especially if it had botanica flowers 💐 on it. I’ve made that orange cake 3 times to get it right. I used all 5 yolks, but also whipped up 2 egg whites and folded it in the batter. The cake was a lot fluffier. Plus I melted on the stove the orange marmalade and used a pastry brush to lightly coat the cake. I did use the same type of whipped cream frosting on mine. This was my 3rd attempt and it came out lovely 🥰. Congratulations 🎉 on 150 thousand subscribers! I’m so happy to be apart of this wonderfully delightful community. Happy Mother’s Day to all those celebrating 💐💕
My mom is a huge Downton Abbey fan. Sure she will want to see the movie. I love orange flavored cakes so I need to make one soon. The sandwiches look amazing.
Thank you so much, Lynda! I'm so excited for you to receive the diffuser, I hope you will love it as much as I do! Thanks for your tips re the cake - I actually found the sponge to be one of the best I've ever made, it was so light!

It is a real pleasure to see and listen to you, your channel for me personally bypassed all the channels to which I am subscribed in terms of popularity. On your channel, I am learning to enjoy every minute of our lives, and I am 65 and I am a grandmother, but you carry so much light and kindness in yourself that I don’t even know what best words to thank you and your mother for such a good son. Stay safe and keep on doing your favorite home, garden, recipes, sandwiches are just crazy and cake and tea and candles and of course you Nicholas is a triumph of beauty, reason and I also love Downton Abbey. A wonderful plot, costumes and actors, the nature of England, its architecture - fascinates.❤❤❤❤❤🍓🍓🍓🍒🍒🍒🎂🍵🍵🌸🍃🌸🍃🌸🍃🌸🍃🌸🍃🌸🍃🌸🍃
You are a breath of fresh air! You aren't into technology, you are into living. You show us someone of your generation isn't buried by music, but immersed into the finer things life has to offer. I wish there were many more like you.
The orange cake sounds yummy. I made a fresh orange pound cake last week and it was divine. I used the zest of three beautiful oranges. The inside of the oranges was almost the color of blood oranges but a bit lighter. I used the juice and sugar to make a drizzle. So I guess it was an orange drizzle cake. I would like to make a lemon drizzle cake soon. I hear it is very popular in Great Britain!
Hello Nicolas. What an elegant presentation of tea time cake and savory sandwiches. Downton Abby will be released on May 29th in the States. Will definitely see that for sure. It certainly doesn't surprise me that you've reached 150K subscribers. I know you've put your heart and soul into making your channel a success, and it shows. I always comment on your episodes because feedback is so important in making your content adaptable for your UA-cam family. You listen to us and work hard to center your episodes on material that we want. That's why I come back every week to listen and learn from you. Congratulations and I appreciate every episode. Kindest regards, Toni Smith
Who could not love DA? I loved every moment of the movies. Every Sunday being transported into the character's world was truly a treat for us Americans who's ancestors are all English as are mine.
I adore Downton Abbey series and movies. I don't know how many times I've watched them and looking forward to the movie!! Congratulations on such a special moment in your life. You have lots of fans and people that care about you. Have a great week.
First, let me congratulate you on all the new and old subscribers!! We're so happy for you to have reached this success. Your videos have made so many of us look forward to every new episode. And so... thank you for the relaxing fun you share!
Nick I dont think I will ever get tired of watching you make afternoon tea sandwiches or putting together an afternoon tea party arrangement! I so enjoy these videos.... so much! looks wonderful! :) kudos Nick :)
Greetings from Kentucky - Nicolas my father was a baker, and he and my mother would make the most beautiful cakes. My childhood memories of them in the kitchen together baking to make extra money for Christmas each year is super special to me. I work in a very pressured environment, and your videos bring me such peace and joy. I go pop into the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea, sit back and relax and feel as if I am visiting with an old friend. I love your clips of Edinburgh, I travel a lot for work, and I do plan to come and explore Scotland in the near future. Looking forward to seeing your next gardening video and can’t wait to try your new line of diffusers.
Thank you Nicolas, for being an inspiration in all your videos. I worked at an elementary school and did tea time and taught etiquette for my sewing class. Also worked with special needs children and did tea time for them and alway used real dishes and cloth napkins. It made them feel so special. They always loved their tea sandwiches and tea cookies. They loved using cloth napkins. I have retired but now I do tea time in my church. Recently did one for the children and their parents. Planning now a Christmas Tea Time at my church. I will use some of your recipes and ideas.
The sandwiches are my favorite part of afternoon tea, I’m more of a savories fan than a sweets fan. I like to give afternoon tea parties, but they are a lot of work if done for a crowd. My tip: I order special breads from a bakery and have them sliced the long way, this makes slabs that speed up sandwich making. I make or prep (veggies) the fillings the day before, and pick up the bread, then assemble the sandwiches before the party. I keep them moist by covering them with damp paper towels in the fridge until the last minute. Sadly, there is no place to get afternoon tea service where I live.
This is delightful. Downton is how I discovered you! I wanted to make a tea party and I ended up on your page over a year ago. You have brought so much beauty and light into my life. Thank you! I can't wait to see the film.
I look forward each week with your calming and positive way of living and you share with each of us. What a wonderful way to spend my afternoon with you.
Nicolas , I completely understand how Downton makes you feel uplifted. Life back then had such grace and the pace was so much slower , that people had time to be more civilised. ( well , the wealthy people did anyway ! ) We watched the entire series during lockdown and it was my saving grace !
Just ordered the candle and the loose leaf tea pack! My daughter and myself adore you, My 22 year old child calls you a vibe! You are a breath of fresh air!!!
Agree re Downton Abbey - A New Era, lovely and non taxing on the brain during these challenging times. If only all life's problems could be tied up so neatly. Enjoy your videos and interested in your terrace upgrade.
A quick piping bag trick: fill a plastic sandwich baggie with the filling and make a small cut in the bottom corner of the bag. Twist and tighten the bag to bring the filling down to the corner and use as you would a regular piping bag. No star shape but you can still make a nice, neat curled filling.
Thank you again, Nicolas, for another inspirational video. You make Sunday the best. You are the most thoughtful, humble, honest, and interesting personality. I never followed the Downtown Abbey series, but you motivated me to begin watching the videos I see on youtube. You are a "gift" to all your faithful viewers. From New York, Gabriel.
Congratulations on 150k Subscribers! As one of them I want thank you for all of your hard work and the effort you put into making each of your wonderful videos! It is always lovely & refreshing to come see you each week. Such class and elegance in your style and presentation and of course, your beautiful voice. Just makes my day. Cheers and best wishes for continued growth on your channel.
Thank you from Canada for your take on a Downton Abby afternoon tea. I frequently have teas just for my spouse and I instead of regular lunches now that we are both retired and have a little more time to spend preparing food. I just ordered the Downton Abby cookbook from Amazon after seeing your video. I am starting to tire of cucumber sandwiches so I am very interested to try the ones you prepared and others from the cookbook. I will also give the cake a try as I have relatives coming to visit in the fall and it will be nice to have something new and tasty to serve during afternoon coffee time. I enjoy watching your lifestyle videos very much. Thanks so much for sharing. Ainsley Spence, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Ainsley is a gentleman's name here in our country. I know in different parts of the world, it is thought of as a female name.)
Love downtown abbey as well! Adore it! It gave me a very nice escaping the world of today. Soothing and calming and love to see the clothes, the beautiful building and the etiquette of that era.
Hello Nicolas, I'm British living in South Carolina USA...just came across your videos...absolutely love them...your tips and cooking fabulous afternoon tea!! Im missing them ! You are very entertaining and please keep up the good work...your mom and family must be soo proud of you...♥️
Thank you from a big Downton-Abbey fan , very inspiring video. My oldest daughter bought me the Downton-Abbey Christmas Cookbook and a neighbor gave me the coffee table book about the Downton-Abbey production and cast of characters which is also a beautiful book. Have always been another fan of afternoon English teas here in Yankee New England where I drink Twinings of London teas and love tea sandwiches esp. cucumber ones and scones, i.e. my English/Scottish/Irish heritage on my maternal side! Along with a love of gardens as a former retired floral designer and now painter of gardens. Enjoy the beautiful Spring weather and all it's various colorful blooms!
You are a modern Downton Abbey man, and your sensitivity and love of beauty shine through and comfort and remind us not to become too coarse or cynical 💙
I love coming to your channel, knowing that I will be entertained, refreshed, and be able appreciate the positivity from you and the subscribers. And Sophie❤️🥰
Love the video; the recipes and all! I'm mexican and I went to the city for my Sister's funeral; it was heartbraking! Next day was Mexican Mother's Day and the hotel we stayed had a mall with cinemas. I saw they have the Downton Abbey movie and I w e nt with my Sisters! We enyoyed inmensly and lifted our spirits!
Thank you so much for the inspiration Nicolas I have learned a lot about self care from you when I really needed it my dear mother's death was devastating but your videos have become a form of refuge for me. Wishing you all the best my friend.
I recall when you started popping up on my UA-cam suggestions. At the time I was not looking to be following anything and didn't click to view one of your videos. But then came the day when I did click and I so enjoyed your relaxed manner and also your speaking voice, your good taste and your presentations. I'm a fan of yours since and look forward to each week's new video. And for that, I also thank you, too.
Nicolas - I love your videos and it has been wonderful to watch your comfort increase where it is easy and obvious you are as authentic as an artist and human
Living abroad for 25 years I find your videos so refreshing and interesting a reminder of what I miss about England thank you so much keep well greetings from Israel
Congratulations on reaching 150K subscribers! Your channel is so soothing and elegant that we all wish we could be your neighbor next door. Keep up the excellent work, Nicholas.
Thank you for another wonderful video. Watching Downton Abbey and making a tea are things I did with my mom before she passed away and your video brought back great memories with her. I love your videos and how you convey a positive outlook and love of beauty.
You are welcome Nicholas! However, it is you I need to thank for allowing us into your realm. I love parties and tea parties especially. When my boys were in school I would go to our local tea shop and enjoy tea all by myself. I have four sons all in their forties including twins. So, you can understand my frame of mind.❤️ By the time school was out I could meet them all full square with all their friends… thanks again
There’s such a calmness in your videos that is pleasing to my soul. Thank you Nicholas for all of the time and effort you put into your craft. You’re a blessing to all of us. Continued success!
Greetings from Santa Fe, ARGENTINA 🇦🇷 Thank you for sharing your kowledge about Downton Abbey. The quintessence of all that is English. Nicolas, you are such an adorable person. Lovable, cute, kind, as well as elegant and dedicated to your new activities. I've been to London recently and, of course, I went to F&M to get some English Breakfast tea in the typical green box, for my son in Buenos Aires. Always looking forward for your lovely vídeos. 🌹
It is so great to hear that more people are discovering you and joining the Nicolas Fairford community! I enjoy the decor, food and travel inspiration you bring to us each week. I hope your line of beautiful homewares grows with even more items. I would love to purchase a tea set designed by you. My granddaughter, Mia, loves when I make a lovely tea of sandwiches and sweets, or a picnic. I am always looking to you for inspiration to add a bit of beauty, variety and specialness to our daily lives. oxxo
Nicolas, I received my teas and candle today, on Mother’s Day. It was such a nice surprise! I can’t wait to make the cake with the rose tea you shared with us. Thank you for the great timing 😉
Those plum blossoms would make great material to start some bonsai. The key to take the formality and stress out of it is to take some cuttings to your house to use as flowers. Tree blossoms always look very refined in simple arrangements. Then if some of them grow roots you plant them and appreciate the beauty not of their flowers but of its leaf buds. And that's bonsai - in its simplest form
I'm a big fan of Downton Abbey as well. Watched it last week and loved it. I always enjoy watching your videos. I feel so lucky that I found your channel.
Congratulations on reaching 150,000 viewers! You fill the void that exists for an elegant lifestyle in this “mad” world. I appreciate your providing a beautiful, and calming atmosphere. Thank you for all you do and I definitely will be ordering your diffuser and making the orange cake. Cheers!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE you!!! This table looks gorgeous. My cousin and I spent a week and a half in London year before last it was wonderful. We spent a day at Highclere Castle.... outstanding. If you are a fan of the show, this is a must see. I'm so excited to see the finished garden. Your style is AMAZING!!! So happy for you.... also loved the picnic. Take care, we love you.
Hi Nicolas - I really loved your intro with a shot of the beautiful garden & the stunning white blossoms - a really lovely way to start your programme - what I find & I am sure everyone will agree is your uplifting spirit - you are so kind & sensitive which sets you apart - you are a very special human being - one of your UA-cam family suggested an apron with Botanica flower designs on it - what a brilliant idea!! - looking at your lovely kitchen while you were making the orange cake - I found your red tiles not over the top & actually brightened up the kitchen beautifully - really nice to see you again - have a great week - by the way your hair looks amazing.
Congratulations!! Love your videos, so relaxing and beautiful!! A decorating tip: I use a ziploc bag and cut the tip off one corner for piping a fancier finish. I have used one of my piping tips in the bag to look nicer but I sometimes just use the bag by itself for easier clean up.🙂
I always wait anxiously for your posts. You are the most calming and beautiful part of my week. I have never watched Downton Abbey, although my sister was a big fan. but I think you have convinced me to jump in! I hope you had pleasant company to share your tea with. Wish it could be me. I'm also working on my deck garden, and it is moving slowly along as I am these days. Between aging and finding it harder to do things and fluctuating weather, as well as time spent helping friends with medical issues, I am a bit later than usual getting it done this year. I do look forward to the completion so I can sit and enjoy and relax, and hopefully entertain company. Thank you, Nicolas for the peace you inspire in me.
I love your videos! They are always so peaceful and enriching. Always a great distraction from all of the unpleasant things going on in the world at the moment. You are absolutely the best Nicolas!❤️❤️❤️
Nice video today Nicolas, You remind me of my younger self. I always ate by candle lite and never had even a ketchup bottle on my table. People always asked me " do you always eat this way" and the answer is yes! I love beautiful things! A suggestion for you chicken salad and your salmon moose. Try using fresh dill or tarragon. Great spice... I love the cucumber sandwiches also cucumber and tomato with dill great for a lite lunch or tea... You didn't try your cake, how did it turn out?? Have a great week... Living a good life and a beautiful home is what I call living WELL. 🤗
I do love your grace and style. It's lovely to see a young man who's not afraid to be himself. And that is wonderful. Sending love from Washington state.. USA
You need your own hotel where you show up and hood meetings with your fans and give take on tea, downtown abbey and everything else you talk about on UA-cam! I enjoyed your candle so much! I’m going to be orndering the tea and diffuser next
Re: Matthew Goode not appearing in the movie, I believe he was filming the last season of A Discovery of Witches, in which he is one of the two main leads. I'm sure if it they could have made it work he would have appeared more in the first film as well as the second. I hope we get a new series of Downton based on George and Sybbie's experiences in WWll. They are both of an age where they would be old enough to serve. The movie opens here in the U.S. on May 20th. I'm very much looking forward to seeing it.
Just now watching this in DEC 2022, it was a breath of fresh air from the cold wet season we are having here in Arkansas, USA. I loved the content and l am learning so much from you about the things I love to make and do. I dream of making my garden a lovely English country garden with many areas to sit and enjoy nature and the smell of blossoms and blooms. Your show always makes me smile, I can't help but keep coming back. God Bless you greatly this Holiday Season. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
A tip for the diffusers is to flip the diffuser reeds upside down every now and then. It seems to re-invigorate the scent throw. I do it every couple of weeks.
Nicolas, you have just been hitting it out of the park! I love seeing more and more of your personality shine through… On the last video when you said ‘how easy was that?’, I laughed out loud! We say that around here a lot as well. I have a few of her cookbooks… Ha ha ha. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this one! And I love the confidence you have to change up recipes. It really does help me, especially with baking. I did want to ask, where did you get your tea cups in this episode? They remind me a little bit of your packaging!
Thank you Nicholas for another lovely video! I think that one of your unique skills is calmness and patience. It flows to us and provides that same calmness to us. Your Tea looks so nice. 🌸
Orange marmalade with brie on warm toast (butter optional) with a cup of earl or lady grey helps with my own down days. The peels in the marmalade and the bergamot in the tea are citrus aromatherapy that go from your mouth straight to your olfactory nerve, making you feel a little better. The brie is mild ( you could use soy or cottage cheese). It is a warm and comforting combination. (But it has to be peels, not just juice or jelly.)
I completely agree! I love Downton Abbey! I have not seen the new movie yet, but cannot wait to see it soon! Thank you for this video and have a lovely Sunday 😊🌷
The tea looks so lovely. Thanks for another wonderful video Nicolas and congrats on reaching 150k subs. Would love to see more of the Downton Abbey cookbook. Maybe in another book fill through video.
I've watched Downton Abbey series and movie back and forth - attending the 'New Era' at it's first day out in German cinema was a must - feels like diving into a different world, far away from the global problems these days. I think the story is told - otherwise there could be new episodes with stories around the children. I have received the DA cookbook from my coworkers for my birthday, together with a tea cup identifying me as 'Her Ladyship' - and invited to a tea party 'Downton Style' in respond. I've had the sandwiches made NF-style though - as I have been familiar with your recipes already. I came across your channel one year ago, looking for information how to host a tea party, make proper tea and what to serve besides scones - and I am hooked to your weekly episodes ever since. So pleasant to watch and listen to - I could imagine you reading audio books to audience as well. I absolutely agree with your theme of 'making life more beautiful' every day - it has nothing to do with expensive objects, it's the little things that make us happy and comfortable. Thank you for your inspiration.
I love orange cakes!! Can't wait to see your finished garden. And the new Downton Abbey movie. Your Downton Abbey Tra looks very inviting. Your dishes are lovely.
Hi Nicolas. What a lovely afternoon tea. I really liked how you adapted the cake and used the chantilly cream with some marmalade. It looked scrumptious. Your line of products are so beautiful. Can't wait till we get them here in Canada. All the Best!! Have a wonderful week! 🌻🐝🌼🌺🍀🌷

I adore when I see a new video of yours pop up on my feed.❤️
I always save watching it until I can sit down with a proper cuppa, and relax to his soothing voice and beautiful content 🌺
Live near Asheville, NC and love to go to see the Biltmore House and it’s like being in Downton Abbey... The tea party cake looks exquisite.
That sounds really delicious!
Cathy , lemon drizzle is my favourite cake !! I am not a fan of iced cakes with loads of frosting , so lemon drizzle I’d the perfect cake for me
Hello Nicolas.
@@jacobsed6665 Sorry honey. She's been dying since the series started a few years ago.
Who could not love DA? I loved every moment of the movies. Every Sunday being transported into the character's world was truly a treat for us Americans who's ancestors are all English as are mine.
Yes! I miss those days x
Ah my weekly touch of calmness and serenity and wonderful content 🥰. By the way I am 78 years young and remember this from many moons ago.
Nicholas, speaking of uplifting, your videos do just that!
Nick I dont think I will ever get tired of watching you make afternoon tea sandwiches or putting together an afternoon tea party arrangement! I so enjoy these videos.... so much! looks wonderful! :) kudos Nick :)
Thank you Nicolas, I would love to be a guest at your Tea Party. The cake looks Devine. Looking forward to your garden update, Hugs Bea
A wonderful young gentleman and a true kind heart. Head up mister, the world need more of you
Greetings from Kentucky - Nicolas my father was a baker, and he and my mother would make the most beautiful cakes.
Thanks for sharing - sounds wonderful!
It is simply NOT possible to express how very much I enjoy your videos Nicholas! Thank YOU! 😊
( well , the wealthy people did anyway ! )
We watched the entire series during lockdown and it was my saving grace !
Great tip - thanks!
Hi, it's actually Downton
Your videos itself are the moodlifting for me (just like the downtown abbey).
Thank you Nicolas..
Thank you - I'm so pleased you feel this way x
Thanks for your wonderful, imaginative world, Nicolas! You make the world more beautiful and rich! Good for you! All best! xoxo
That is so kind - Thank you so much x
I am always looking to you for inspiration to add a bit of beauty, variety and specialness to our daily lives. oxxo
Delightful, as usual. I needed a lift today, and now I'm ready to get busy working on my beautiful life. Thank you.
I mean this in the nicest way...your voice and content are like a tranquilizer. Aesthetic wonders every time.
I can't imagine anything nicer than a tea party with you! Thank you for another beautiful video and time with you.
How nice - thank you!
Congratulations on the latest subscriber level - and it's all down to your brilliance. Take a bow, you beautiful person.
Cheers!
Not sure why your channel showed up on my feed but I thoroughly enjoyed your British Garden Tea party. Class and style are served. Lovely.
Nicolas I love the soothing and beauty in all that you present. Gave us a huge window of peaceful and elegant time. Thank you ❤️🌸🪴
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE you!!!
Beautiful soul thank you for sharing your Downton tea treats 💕 it is a lovely community you have everyone supporting each other 😊💕
Hi Nicolas - I really loved your intro with a shot of the beautiful garden & the stunning white blossoms - a really lovely way to start your programme - what I find & I am sure everyone will agree is your uplifting spirit - you are so kind & sensitive which sets you apart - you are a very special human being - one of your UA-cam family suggested an apron with Botanica flower designs on it - what a brilliant idea!! - looking at your lovely kitchen while you were making the orange cake - I found your red tiles not over the top & actually brightened up the kitchen beautifully - really nice to see you again - have a great week - by the way your hair looks amazing.
Thank you Nicolas for sharing your beautiful tea, it is a treat to feel as though we are there with you enjoying peace, elegance and grace, ❤️!
Beautiful tea party! Everything looks exquisite! 💞🌷
Thank you so much!
Nicholas, you are my go to respite in these chaotic times. Thank you so much.💕
I absolutely ADORE Downton Abbey. Thanks so much for such a wonderful broadcast
Nice video today Nicolas, You remind me of my
younger self.
you got to see Downton Abbey before us here in the US I'm so jealous. thank you so much for sharing this delicious looking recipe with us. ❤️
I do love your grace and style. It's lovely to see a young man who's not afraid to be himself. And that is wonderful. Sending love from Washington state.. USA
Thank you for your video which I watched on Mothers' Day! Just lifts my spirit! Merci beaucoup! Lxo
Yes, I read that he had other commitments - I just wish they could have made it work!
Ahh don't worry Nicolas we will be patient do looking forward to the garden and what you can inspire me to do 😀🎈
A tip for the diffusers is to flip the diffuser reeds upside down every now and then.
Thank you so much! Those teacups are from the Royal Collection Shop
Everything looked so delicious & table so nice too. If only we could taste and smell theses delights.
Nicholas, your videos are so calming and a delight.
Congratulations Nicholas! You are so worth watching every week. Keep going 🤗
I so look forward to watching your videos, And I cannot wait to see your garden when it’s finished.
I love orange cakes!!
Can't wait to see your finished garden. And the new Downton Abbey movie.
Your Downton Abbey Tra looks very inviting. Your dishes are lovely.
Look forward to sharing more soon!
Hi Nicolas. What a lovely afternoon tea. I really liked how you adapted the cake and used the chantilly cream with some marmalade. It looked scrumptious. Your line of products are so beautiful. Can't wait till we get them here in Canada.
All the Best!! Have a wonderful week! 🌻🐝🌼🌺🍀🌷
