Please read - Hi and thanks for watching. My bad on the shot - we actually tried to get two stools for the interview but none were around, NAMM is crazy and there isn't much around as far as chairs or stools. In fact its challenging to do interviews as there is so many people jammed in the aisles and packed into the booths and its really noisy. We wanted to set up the shot so we got both people and the amp in there and Mike had the idea of himself kneeling to make it work. He is such a nice guy and so personable and easy to talk to. Plus I am super tall and wide so to not too uneven I try to sit everyone down during interviews if possible. Mike is such the nice guy - just a good dude. Check out the other video on our channel I just posted where we interview Mike and he talks about his brand and the new Solano amps coming out here: ua-cam.com/video/cTGPRa_y4v0/v-deo.html&lc=UgxqpCmlcpS21UJ2lxF4AaABAg And please stay tuned for more killer content and lessons coming soon. People don't understand how hard it is at the Namm shows. Trying to get the interview is a battle in itself. Then fighting the noise and people that pay no attention to the giant cameras and people with microphones. This year was interesting for us, while filming everyone was carrying on conversations with my wife who runs camera for me. It became a game to see who was going to just start shooting this shit with her mid interview. Good interview!!
Thanks so much - really appreciate your kind words. Yeah, NAMM just seems to be getting more and more crowded each year. Its pretty crazy - but its all music and all good. Will check out some of your footage - thanks again and keep on rockinG! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
@rockongoodpeople I understand your explanation, but it still didn't look good.

I'm nobody and I called his shop to date a Astroverb 1X12 combo I bought and wound up talking for 20 minutes. To Mike! Mike is a genuine nice guy and a master builder and a fountain of knowledge.
If I can offer my MHO, let the older folks have your seat. Anywhere. You'll be there once. If you make it. And you'll feel good doing it.
I'm really impressed with Mike Soldano. Humble as can be. I need an SLO now!
you wont regret it i have a hotrod 50
I need a blo
As far as I know, Soldano has sold the company and will no longer be part of the production team. A tech friend of mine told me as one of his clients ordered two additional SLO 100 amps while Mike was still part of making them.
I've had the great pleasure of playing that SRV Soldano in Mike's studio in Seattle. I also played an SLO that belonged to Warren Haynes and another belonging to Martin Barre of Jethro Tull.
All of that was cool, but the coolest part of it all was meeting Mike himself. Such a generous and gracious dude. He invited me to his studio on a day off and showed me his hot rod car in the garage. He treated me like royalty. You would have thought I was Eddie Van Halen by the way he treated me. I'm a nobody, just another dude who plays guitar. But Mike, on the other hand, he's a legend and the kindest, most generous, humble dude you'll ever meet.
that is the same feeling I had the first time I met Mike - he is like the nicest and most humble guy ever - just a pleasure to talk to and interview - what a nice guy. And thank u for watching this video and for ur kind words, really appreciated. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. I lived in Evanston Illinois at the time and went to many concerts at Alpine Valley. Clapton, SRV and Robert Cray played two nights there . I went the first night .
It was so sad to learn what happened the next night . I had seen SRV several times while I lived in the Chicago area .
I’m a huge Hendrix fan as I got to see him a couple times when I was young . When SRV played Hendrix it was like he channeled Jimi’s spirit . And I had seen him play with Jeff Beck maybe a year earlier which was a phenomenal concert.
A tragic loss in so many ways .
Nice to hear this story years later about his Soldano amp .
Take Care Everyone
If you like Hendrix look up Eric Johnson's Austin City Limits performance of Are You Experienced. If you've not seen it, it will blow your mind.
Soldano is a national treasure
For sure! And Mike is such a good dude! Thanks so much for watching this video - so appreciated! So glad that Mike found someone he feels good about keeping his brand alive. And Mike deserves it. And he is going to design some brand new stuff too! Really excited and he is pumped up about it. Stay tuned for lots more killer content and lessons coming soon. Have a rocking day and keep having fun with that guitar! Take care -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
rockongoodpeople So I’m curious about if Soldano Amps are still in business. After watching this interview I looked online and it appears that Mike had retired or sold his business to the guy who made B- 52 amps.
Kind of confusing.
So could you clearify if he’s still in business or did he just bring this SRV amp for a nostalgia display ? Thanks .
What an awesome and relaxed guy. I challenge anyone to get Mr PRS to do an interview on his knees.
Hi Pontus and thanks so much for watching this video - for sure! Mike is just a good guy - nicest guy you will meet and he wanted to kneel for the video - I should have reworked the shot, my bad on that - what happened was we tried to get two stools for the interview but none were around, (NAMM is crazy), and we wanted to set up the shot so we got both of us and the amp in there and Mike had the idea of him kneeling to make it work. He is such a nice guy. Plus I am super tall and wide so to not too uneven I try to sit everyone down during interviews if possible. I challenge people to ask PRS critical questions and not be bullied by PRS. :-)
Just watch Lee Anderton's interview with PRS on the Silver Sky... PRS comes over as a huge arrogant douchebag.
If a guitar is laying on the carpet and Paul is talking about it with an interested party you can bet he'd be on his knees too.
These guys had a difficult shot to make in less than ideal circumstances and they got a great interview.
It's all good man enjoy life!
I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan and Greg Allman on the same tour at Riverbend in Cincinnati. I was driving south on 75 coming into Cincinnati when I heard on the radio that he was killed in a helicopter crash. And I remember when I heard Randy Rhoads died in an airplane crash. I was driving west on 275 heading towards Indiana to spend a weekend with my friends drinking and partying.
Excellent interview! Mike Soldano is a humble genius.
As opposed to a Dumble genius?
@@larryn2682 Good one lol
Man SRV would have made that amp sing like nobody else..rip Stevie
The SLO100 is still an amazing amp even today.
Sure is!
Why is Mike In his knees and the interviewer sitting in the stool! Lol talk about humble
Hi and thanks for watching - most appreciated! We actually tried to get two stools for the interview but none were around and we wanted to set up the shot so we got both people and the amp in there and Mike had the idea of kneeling to make it work. He is such a nice guy. More interviews with Mike coming soon as he talks about the future of Solano - stay tuned for that and much more killer content and lessons coming soon. Thanks again and rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
After the statement @ :37 "to have the kind of legs you had..." I checked to make sure they were still there too...LOL!
Great interview! but for the first minute I thought this was a midget impersonating Mike! haha
Hi Mike and thanks for watching - I just responded to a similar comment - actually the problem is that Im too damn tall - I'm over 6'4" and kind of wide so I tend to make most people look smaller when I interview them on camera. Plus Mike was on his knees for most of this video. I wanted to get us both in the shot as well as the amp and possibly his logo - I should have set the shot up different, my bad on that but its tough as it was very limited space and people constantly walking around and by us as its like super crowded. I'm just too big Mike! I'll work on it! Hope u enjoyed the video and stay tuned for more killer content and lessons including another video with Mike where he details the plans for the Solano brand - stay tuned and rock on!

@@rockongoodpeople oh it's funny. Great interview.
Irony of using the "having the legs in this industry"
What an enormous wealth given of information in that window of opportunity! Totally new respect for Soldano and boutique makers alike who often get have their own legends started by a chance encounter from other legends
Mike is such a great fella! He probably told this story 200 times, but you couldn't tell. Awesome amps!
Hi and thanks for watching - yeah, Mike is an absolutely super cool guy - nicest guy you will ever meet. Stay tuned as we have another interview with him where he tells all about the Solano brand future. Stay tuned for that and lots more killer content and lessons - take care and rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
It must be such an ache to want to know what Stevie might have said about his creation.... Words he'll never get to hear....
he will when he gets to heaven
He said WOW that's a great sounding amp on every setting Rip SRV
Mike is a real icon to guitarist around the world! This man has magic in his hands,...and in his head!
...to have the kind of legs...
I know. That was hillarious!

I remember as I was there backstage at the Greek, but it was The Bros. & Jeff Healy and Stevie came to sit in with the Bros. I've known Warren for 30+ years now.
My SLO from around 2000 had the “SRV” mod which I used all the time. Jeff Bober also had an amp out to SRV before his Budda days. He told the story on the amps and axes podcast. It was either a Fenton or perhaps this pre-dated Fenton long before he did Budda.

It would be kind of haunting to plug-in and play the amp. SRV could’ve been the last person to have played it.
I’ll never forget Stevie Ray Vaughan standing at the edge of the stage leaning out over the audience jamming with his eyes closed. Shaking that guitar to get the wide vibe brado he was able to get as part of his style. That was just something I remember about that concert.
SRV 🙏RIP.
I just would like to say that I appreciate the interviewer's respect of his subject and the gratitude of the man he is interviewing. Made me want to listen all the more.

Love my SLO 100 and my X88R!
Not 100% sure, but I think actually the last stuff SRV ever played at the Alpine Valley jam might have been through Clapton's spare Soldano SLO-100.
SRV played through a soldando in April 90, when Eric was touring journeyman, and the tour passed near their houses, the members of troubledouble went there to see the concert, and Steve went up on stage and jammed in Before you accuse me and after midnight, plugged in a soldano of Eric. In alpine valley, Steve must have used his own, I guess, cheers
When srv is flying your flag your brand demands sum respect !
And a personal memory of mine is when he played the commadore in vancouver '86......the mans rig was so loud n proud you could hear him clearly two blocks away from the venue.
Those were the days!
What a humble Man. He's A Legend. I would Love To Play Once My Own Top of Soldano. Eddie and Luke Also play Them. They Are Creamy, Plus Brown Sounding 2.

When I checked out the price on the Soldano I was taken aback at the price. The SLO 100 is out of my price range from what I was able to glean from various outlets.
What a fucking LEGEND
What's ironic about this interview, if you listened closely, was him mentioning Warren Haynes. Warren ended up using Soldano later in his career. I had a front-row seat to one of those shows and was impressed that a metal amp was being used by a blues man! Sounded great!
Twobarpsi warren Haynes started using the slo from the mid 80’s and even uses it here and there now. As did Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and a number of other blues guys. Hell John Mayer uses one occasionally and it sounds killer
@@zerohourdrift word!
" a metal amp" SMH..why do people just think Soldano is a metal amp? it was never intended to be that. But I guess the high gain channel was and is a fave of the hair metal guys and is associated with metal players. Just the crunch channel alone is pretty great.
Bill Hannaford exactly! Some of the most famous people to use it were blues guys!
Never saw Mike before. Incredibly nice guy, I expected something else.
My guitarist plays a soldano head his tone is amazing!

My one regret in visiting Mike at his shop was not asking to play thru that amp. Looked at and talked to Mike about it, fiddled with the knobs a bit but was just overwhelmed by all the stuff to look at.

First time i heard of Soldano is when i saw a video of the Scorpions in moscow 1989 and matthias Jabs had about 3 heads on top of marshall stacks . I wanted one even though i hadnt played through one . The local music shops would go " a what ? A sovtech you mean ? " No one had them and this was pre internet . I finally got a catalog and the price was way out of my range . I was saving for one but the Peavey 5150 came out first so of course i bought that . I wasnt totally happy with it . Finally in 1995 my local music shop got Soldanos in . The slo's . When i walked in and saw them i lost it . When i plugged in i was even more blown away ....that high gain liquid tone . I financed the slo one the spot with a matching cab.
I eventually sold it and my " high gain " tastes have changed , but it was an amp to remember . In my opinion Mike Soldano started the boutique high gain amp revolution . The SLO is the benchmark .
Truth Warrior personally, I think they do a much better mid gain tone than high gain. Some of the most famous users of them were blues guys who used them from clean to mid gain. Clapton, srv(obviously very limited time), knopfler, warren Haynes, Dickey betts, etc.
I have one and it does a killer blues tone, however I’m not a huge fan of cranking it all the way up, as it gets a bit to fizzy/ high gain for me. I’m going to do a mod to lower the gain level however and it should be better for me personally
@@zerohourdrift Im not saying they are only a high gain amp ....what im saying is the type of high gain amp i like now is different . I like different poweramp dynamics ....i like more sag and chewiness. Yes they are great for blues players that use gain . To be honest i didnt like the clean on mine . The amps are wired tight and you get that very linear attack/decay on the clean . Although im a guitar volume pot clean guy ...there are better clean channels . To me all amps with very tight attack dynamics ( solid state rectifier, high value filtering caps etc ) sound the same now . But back then Soldano was it . Its still a great amp ...I never really had too much fizz on mine. A tiny bit but that was with the soldano cab i bought with it . I played it through a vintage marshall cab with greenbacks and it was heaven. They arent my choice today but they still have their place ...many hard metal guys are starting to use them for their unique tone.
He has the ring to rules them all.....is amps are soldered with the heat of the mordor thats why they are legendary
Very nice interview but as 99.9% of the viewers commented very awkward to see. Anyway, Mike is such a great, ultra cool and humble guy. Can't say enough good things about him, I wish him all the best now that he retired! One of my biggest regrets will always be not buying an amp from this man... I could afford an SLO100 but I was just happy with my JMP Marshalls (Plexis, 2203s/2204s etc.) and didn't really need one, but man now that it's over even if I didn't really need an SLO I'd just be happy to give to this super cool and humble guy $4,000-5,000 or whatever an SLO cost back then. Mike if you happen to read this, you have my utmost respect. All the best to you!
Thank God, Mike is cutting a deal for someone to carry on! Hopefully DeYoung will go along.... A couple of clones are mighty, mighty close.
Just glad that circuit will still be around.
Hi Eric and thanks for watching - so appreciated. For sure - so glad that Mike found someone he feels good about keeping his brand alive. And Mike deserves it as he is such the good dude. And he is going to design some brand new stuff too! Really excited and he is pumped up about it. Stay tuned for lots more killer content and lessons coming soon. Have a rocking day and keep having fun with that guitar! Take care -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
Word round the sewing circle is Mike is retired. Hope Don and Russ can be a part of the plan.... I reckon we'll see.

I wish they’d make the FX loop level switchable instead of just dropping it to instrument level.
Mike Soldano should be in the same conversation as Leo Fender and Jim Marshall. His amps are that good.
I skied at alpine valley dozens of times as a kid exactly where the helicopter crashed and never even knew it. :(
Mr. Soldano is correct about the quality of tubes. I started seeing this trend of terrible tubes coming out of China with names like "groove, fender etc etc etc.' And this was in 1995. Now remember, I'm gigging with a 100 watt 1991 Marshall JCM Combo amp. Took 4 preamp tubes. Very picky of an amp and yes it would heat up heavy with crappy tubes. I eventually sold it in 2000 cause again, tubes wear hard to find. Yes Russian made Mollards wear around then. But it was like hit and miss for their tubes.
Damn! John Kelly knows a lot about amps!
I've seen n old GW pic of his last gig with the all star jam at the end of the show, that amp IS in the backline with all the other amps!!!!! Fact, please look it up!!!!!

0:33 😂😂. It looks like he has “no legs” from where I’m sittin.
lets see podium center head on podium cab on its SIDE logo visible the company owner /builder has the seat that is pretty cool move the chair left of podium center cab on right
HI and thanks for watching - My bad on the shot - we actually tried to get two stools for the interview but none were around, NAMM is crazy and there isn't much around as far as chairs or stools.
