Thanks so much for stopping by to check out this tutorial on shawl shaping and styling options! I'm practicing leveling up my video editing game, so I hope you find it as much fun to watch as it was to make 😀😀😀 See you next week!
For those that don't like the commitment of sewing the edges together, you could do a buttonhole edge & place 4 buttons or toggles on the other side. This keeps it open for a quick over the shoulders (dash to mailbox)or a fixed one when you don't want to constantly be readjusting a shawl (like shopping)
OMG! Genius! I now have to go in my storage room, find the box of shawls that I love too much to give away, but get frustrated trying to wear them - especially in stadiums and restaurants - they slip off and end up with the ends on the floor or the shawl under the bleachers and me cold and frustrated. This is such a simple solution. THANK YOU!
It's changed everything shawl-wise for me. I used to just ignore and be sad by all the pretty shawl designs. Now I see possibilities in almost every one :D
When you started pinning, I had to laugh. In earlier videos you shared your fiber life which is remarkably similar to mine, even though I am many years older than you. So your pin dish! I have one exactly like it but I don’t use it for pins. Btw, I’m really enjoying your work.
I've had thoughts of working out some wraps on my own and was glad to find someone else with the same ideas! I really like that Roman mosaic one you have made - may need to add that to my Q.
Well, this video gave me a lightbulb moment to use your technique on my beautiful real pashminas that I have had for years and never wear. Love your videos, thank you,Ricki from Penticton.
Thanks for this! I’ve stopped making triangle shawls for the same reasons you’d mentioned. They drive me nuts. I’d been thinking of just converting one to a rectangle, but have resisted thinking it would just look old ladyish (and boring) draped over my shoulders that way. But I NEVER thought about making it a bit longer and attaching the end this way., this is brilliant! L❤️VE!!!
It looks fabulous! Liked, subscribed and watching 😊 I googled "modern poncho" a couple years ago and this construction was one that came up. Made several and they get way more wear than triangles. Thank you for teaching how to convert! Going to give it a try
What a great idea - it’s absolutely-feckin’ 💡🤩. I love shawls but have stopped knitting them because - well, as you know they are a pain 😱. I watched part one and didn’t comment because I found this part 2. Much like your pattern mapping video, the prep work, for me, is daunting because - ?lazy, ?just want to knit? Really, I don’t know. Perhaps it’s just learning a new concept. It is brilliant though. I’m glad you have 7k+ subscribers, you definitely deserve them. Love your personality, I bet you’re a great person to hang with. Keep the videos coming 👍👍🤩. If I find a shawl I want to convert I’ll definitely reach out for help. PS: the fashion show was 👍👍. PPS: time to knit puppy his cashmere bed, or at least a soft blankie so he feels the love 😂
Ha ha! Thank you SO much for this amazing comment. If you're interested in additional content to what I post in the main channel, I just opened up channel memberships 😃 You'll find a "join" button just under the title that takes you to a short video describing the benefits of becoming a Knicoleknits After Hours Lounger. Just a suggestion, if you're interested in "hanging with" me in a more casual way. 😉
You're new wrapover/poncho looks great! If the inside seam did bother anyone, it could always be finished of with some ribbon sewn over it like some people do when they steek a cardigan to hide those front band seams.
I‘ve always preferred wraps and ponchos over sweaters! I just started to learn knitting and crochet and love your channel. Please forgive a “dumb” question: did you attach the bands by picking up stitches along the long edge (length) of the wrap? If using circular needles, what length of cable did you use? You’re a wonderful teacher and new subscriber here! 😊❤️
Thanks for subscribing! Yes, I pick up the stitches along the long edge for the bands. Since the piece is about 60” long, I use the longest cord I can find, which is usually 36” or 40” 😊
Thank you so much for this amazing idea, Nicole. I confess that I have only crocheted a shawl and I don't use it, as I'm useless to wear it. So this alteration that you show us is the best ever. Just a question about the rectangles: can you tell me what's the length and width of them? As you don't follow the instructions of the triangular pattern, I would like to know the average length and width of the rectangular shawls to make it look as amazing as the shawls you wear in your videos. Thanks again!
So inspiring, Nicole! I wish that my mental queue wasn’t already so long and my wallet was a bit fatter so I could drop everything and do the Roman Villa in exactly your chosen colour way, which I was admiring on WCKG zoom last night. You and Smita are a super match for the KAL.
Hmmm, I like this but any with this shape i only wear for short trips with know weather/temps... but then its too warm, or harder to use as a lap blanket while sitting waiting for kids in chilly locations
You have missed your vocation Ms Supermodel 😊 I'm a shawl-wearer and knitter. I like triangular shawls as wrapping them is good for my "giraffe" neck that gets cold. I did struggle with Nightshift as it is such a deep triangle so I too gave it away. And I always avoid semi-circular/circle shawls. I look like an Eastern European peasant woman. No criticism as it's my roots, but still... Like the idea of your wrap over but do you not find your arms restricted?
Ha ha! More like Mediocremodel 😋 No arm restriction at all - it will bunch up a bit when arms are raised, but usually drops back down into place easily (unless I'm wearing something "grabby" underneath 😃
This could work with two narrow-ish asymmetrical triangles. I’m thinking for the most part, two triangles are going to give you more of a square than a rectangle. Food for thought, though! 😁
Are you a lefty? Me, too, not that it matters. I can’t wait to attack my pile of beautiful but never worn shawls. Some have already been frogged before I saw your video. Thanks again!
I am currently knitting Stephen West's 'Brioche Soundwaves'. It is a rectangular scarf and I am thinking about knitting together as a wrap around. It is about 18 inches wide and currently 28 inches long. I will just keep knitting and trying on as I get closer to the finished length.
It was trial and error at first. For me, I've settled on 55-60" long. The beauty of this method is you can try it on and add length or width as needed 😊
I am only about five 1 1/2 so I’m thinking I could probably use the 55 length. But I will definitely measure first. I am so excited about this - you have no idea!
Love it this idea! Wonder how you are going to do the artist shawl into a rectangle. I am interested in doing that one also. Knit a long? Thanks for your inspiration
I am going to attempt the Prismarine scarf and use your te unique to make your wrapper. Wondering if I should make the diagonal section, or make it a simple rectangle?
If you do it as a diagonal, the fabric will be on the bias. I haven’t done one like that yet, so I’m not sure how it would hang or drape. My guess is it would work okay, but I can’t guarantee that 😊 Sorry this isn’t more helpful! 😋
I think I'll use some of my stash, and try it BEFORE I try it with my "good" yarn! Lol. I bought 4 skeins from Arcane Fiber Works, they are in Canada. I love their colorways, all available in 4 yarn weights, all $25 a hank (US), and all superwash merino!
I am only 5 feet tall and 110 lbs. how long and wide would you recommend i knit my shawl? i made one that is 17 inches by 63 inches and when pinned, the neck area is way, way too large and the shawl ends up looking like a poncho. Help please
63" is quite long for this wrap style. For your frame, you might want to be close to 50" - maybe even less. The best test would be a version that is knit by casting on the short edge of the rectangle, then knitting to about 45", putting the stitches on a cord or scrap yarn, pinning it into position and trying it on. You'll know pretty quickly if you need more or less length. 😊
Thank you so much, I knit a lot of shawls but donate most to charity because I didn’t like how they fit me. Maybe now I can make one and convert it to a wrap and be able to wear it. Thank you again for your help and your wonderful videos. 0:34

love your videos - light-hearted, informative & inspirational.
The wrap over reminds me of a poncho but much more modern and stylish.
That’s exactly what I was going for! 🥰

eine ganz tolle Idee❤ sieht super aus. das werde ich auch mal probieren. danke fürs zeigen!
AHA! Finally, an easy way to wear sequence knitting!
You got it! 😄
This looks so contemporary, and doesn't have all the cultural baggage of the shawl. thanks so much. new ideas brewing...
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching 😊
I love your "wrap-over" modification idea and will definitely be using it on a future project. Brilliant!! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I LOVE this idea!!! 💡 I have an advent that came with a shawl pattern that I’d love to convert in this way.
Go for it!

Benefit number 7!! You never have to worry about it flipping as you wrap it, exposing the wrong side!!
Yes! Excellent benefit 😁

Probably too late maybe, but could one not zip the front of a triangle shawl up in to a V neck? Love what you do, thanks!
Hmmm...interesting thought. I'll baste one together and see how it goes. 😊
@@Knicoleknits IT IS TOO PRETTY TO TAKE APART, HOWEVER, I PREFER YOUR OWN IDEAS IN SHAWLS, IT MAKES MORE SENSE AND STAYS WHERE IT BELONG. THANKS!
Can you take a triangle shawl and sew other triangles to make a rectangle ? What if you make your collab shawl even better
This could work with two narrow-ish asymmetrical triangles. I’m thinking for the most part, two triangles are going to give you more of a square than a rectangle. Food for thought, though! 😁

You just might, but if I do run a KAL, there might possibly be a deal to be had, so stay tuned!

Yes! Seaming icord is a piece of cake 😁
