I took a look at the geometry of the 765. It has about the same geometry as my alloy topstone. What i personally don't like is the short seat tube of the Look 765. Especially in my size ( xl ). My seat height is about 87cm! You could also look for a Classified hub😍. I know is expensive but looks and works very well.
Paul, for the top headset bearing (or bottom if that’s loose too). You could try taking some Teflon thread sealing tape and wrap it around that outer bearing race 2-3 times and put the excess facing up then push the bearing in and trim the excess after. It should sit in there a bit more snug that way.
Great video. I love that frame and it's definitely on my list for when I upgrade. The mudguard mounts are such a great idea, if you do group rides in the winter you should really run with mudguards.. Cheers.
The slight 'slop' in the fit of the headset bearings into the frame doesn't matter as both bearings seat into a taper. The taper is what aligns them, not the outside diameter of the bearing. Once the bearings are compressed there will be no movement. Nice frame btw. From the owner of a Look 675 :)
I never understood the 1x setup option on a road bike. Constant lack of the right gear ratio depending on the type of driving and the conditions: headwind, hills...! Accordingly, greater power consumption, greater exhaustion after a long ride...! Also deep section wheels on 1x setup. I would put a Sram Rival AXS (or the new Force) Wide 43/30 and a 10-28 or 10-30 cassette on such a perfect road endurance frame. What is your experience with carbon dropout wear? Especially on the back wheel frame dropout.
1x is awesome. I really do like it. Plenty of gears to use. Power consumption is no different 🤷♂️. It’s just simple, silent and efficient. We are in the Lake District. It suits our hill and headwinds very well.
I do find the upfront cost of Campagnolo a bit off putting but it just seems to last, chains and cassettes anyway. It's the feel and shape of the shifters that can't be beaten for me. I thought you were going to go for GRX but I'm all for reuse, hope that fork/stem part arrives soon.
So I am buying a 765 optimum + but it comes with alloy fulcrum wheelset. Can you recommend a set of carbon wheelset with sram rival components under 1000 us? I love your channel! Thx John
Yes. Ask your LBS to build a set. Describe your riding and your budget and they should build you something cool. Some Venn TCD rims, Sapim Lazer or Race spoke and a set of DT 350 should just fit into your budget.
A question for you will the slackness in the head bearings cause chatter in time creating a bigger problem ? i agree the frame has a lovely flowing design .
@@Mapdec yet the headsets in MTBs are clicking and rubbing sometimes. Even though for them those slack angles fork in favor, helping to locate the bearings in extreme position and making vibrational and dynamic loads smaller in comparison to static. One might recommend to have preload on the higher side of tolerances, but not sure if it would make a significant difference with that flimsy cable managing compression ring. So, it must be good luck there is no new groupset yet and you will need to rebuild the bike sooner: good reason to inspect the steerer in the meantime.
Paul hugely entertaining to see your search for holy grail of endurance bike for the lakes etc.Interesting to see your reasoning and choices. Also to see your excitement in full recognition there is no perfect bike but near as dammit, "that'll do" ✅. Frame geo on lots of steep uphills, yep good draw from the Super X provided happy with gearing ratios (gen. frame works for me in SW) Frame obviously finished properly and well thought out for versatility. But Look skimped on aluminium BB ideally ought to be Ti, minimal additional cost for significant improvement, very diff position on the galvanic reaction scale poss. Personally don't see integrated cables being especially important for an endurance bike, no real gain in performance, bit of a faff, counter intuitive for roadside fix. But everyone's different and do agree you've got to go with what makes your heart flutter and at least there's been some thought to the routing from Look. Personally don't like the absence of metal lower crown race. Rather that was the consumable than the forks. Not yours, but possible many could be brought along too late, lots of damage very quickly even with a marginally loose headset (appreciate more apparent on upper race than lower- ring of death etc), especially on UK mountainous rural roads. Gearing good idea for budget and also as you already know how it rides, you're happy with the shifter ergonomics and function and you already like it ✅. Hope the crankset fix works 🤞. If the budget ever allows how about 1X combined with electronic rear hub to give you effective 2X at touch of a button (pre-planning for advancing years ? 😳........just joking I'm pushing 60 !). Good luck buddy hope to see the final build and a series of ride vids with feedback. Have loads of fun 👍👍👍
their gravel (RS) seems almost identical to this for me. your thoughts please? (I am thinking of buying the endurance and just use it as a gravel bike)
Looking a new groupsets too from getting a new-barley used raliegh rx 2.0 cx demo bike from a team that has rival 1x11 mech disc that siting in storage past few years. First disc brake bike. For general use, not just racing. Already in process of looking at upgrade from stock build after a few rides. Wheels first with 15mm to 12mm conversion. Still getting used the 1x groupo coming from 2x. If I end up not like the 1x will have to move to 2x sram axs as the frame no down tube fd cable routing. Hoping sram has axs apex level groupset as the spare parts and base level by then.
Nice frame. I just got the new Time ADHX with the Deda Superbox and Sram Red Axs. Went with Time based on mfg quality, plus I wanted to get away from the standard Asian Carbon frames. With regard to the Red Axs shifter, I think the size perception depends on the size of your hands. When riding, my hands fit perfectly in line with the shifter hood and the combo of my hand and shifter is no bigger with Red than with my Campy 12 speed.
Don't think this is an issue. The bearings are on a taper (assumption) when they get preloaded, should be good to go. If I'm off here, its not good and Paul might have an early production frame that would be corrected under warranty, or one would hope.
12:48 Cannondale used sandwich design in the past, I don't know why they went away from it, they had it on Alu frames in the head shock days. The hanger was one part, but had a sandwich design with 2 bolts securing it. But Nicolai has two plates instead, the hanger is huge on Nicolai, my Heometron/Nicolai G1 has this with Nicolai RADO II, secured with 4 bolts.
22:02 What about Garbaruk cassette lighter and cheaper than XX1 and XTR. They do MTB cassettes, but if you want big cassette this is the best option. And use which ever RD and brakes/shifter you want. If you don't want Sram AXS nor Shimano DI2 electronic shifting but still want electronic shifting, maybe Archer components is something for you? You can use any mechanical RD with it. They have an integrated option for TRP Hylex RS Brakes, it secures to the brake lever, there are two shifting buttons, one for up one for down, plus an micro adjustment button. But if you don't use those brakes, there is an universal solution, MFR Drop Bar Remote. The remote is mounted on the stem or top tube, and buttons go where you want them.
Be aware that the Stack and the Reach that LOOK provides in the website, are calculated including the height of the headset top cap (0,9 cm) and the height of the cable routing spacer (1,5 cm, the one that didn't come with the frame)
A very astute observation Pavlos. Does it mean that another manufacturer without this cable routing spacer (and cap I guess) would have calculated the reach as 609 - 9 - 15 = 585 (for a Large) Sounds quite low for an endurance bike…
@@peters8504 Usually manufacturers provide stack and reach without these parts. For the new Look 765 these parts are necessary for the bike to function. The previous 765 optimum + doesn't have these parts but the stack and reach are almost identical. Check the head tube length for example.
Great video! Thanks! - So if I compare the 765 to a 2024 Orbea Orca with this understanding the Orca in a comparable size appears to have a higher stack or do other manufactures do a similar thing when measuring stack. All the reviews I read for this bike talk about how tall the stack is, but the inclusion of these spacers in the stack muddies the waters for my understanding of how the 765 compares to other bikes. Thanks in advance.
Very interesting and informative video and a bike that interests me greatly. However I would be interested to know what changes, if any, you would make for someone who is somewhat heavier than you.
Do you know how this frame compares to the 765 Pro Team in terms of geometry, materials and performance characteristics. I have this model, but considering the new Optimum with DB.
Look stuff has an excellent reputation so I was surprised by the minor niggles here. I'll be interested to hear how it rides. I can't abide double tap, but if you like the ergonomics, there's nothing wrong with mechanical SRAM - it's light and pretty straightforward to work on - so I can see why you transplanted the group.
@mapdec great video. Were you able to find an integrated computer mount for the Look stem? I think you mentioned that you thought the Specialized mount might work. Did that work? Thanks!
@@MapdecI continue to enjoy your videos. Great stuff. Have not seen an update on the integrated computer mount for the Look LS3 stem. Will continue to watch the space but I purchased a Look 765 and am interested in an integrated mount for my 840. Thanks again!
Hmm, Ekar on an endurance bike would be interesting to test. No idea how much the full groupset costs. Anyway, it’s a great way to save when you can use a groupset from an older bike. Older Sram stuff is compatible with Shimano parts, am I right? Like HG cassettes and such.
Life would be too easy if it all were compatible 😂 But I think especially Shimano has so many incompatible parts and it is difficult to keep track with their model series numbers. I plan to buy a new cassette and chain to my 13-year old 105 groupset and wonder if I can choose compatible parts (I hope the 5600 series and 5700 series can get along)
Imagine needing to return the frame because of a missing spacer! Well, that's the risk the manufacturer puts on the customer by not supplying a stem by default (and therefore not being able to trace all in/complete sets)... C-Bear have a 2-in-1 socket for T47, sold in Europe and suspiciously cheap compared to other options. Maybe might need facing on a sheet of sandpaper glued onto a window glass Also, I wouldn't trust a seatpost adapter in frames with wedge clamps, as they don't provide even-ish circumferential pressure. But really, it's not hard to find an excellent 27,2 seatpost, new or second hand.
Enjoyed as usual. Your conversational style and pacing works well. Aside from cost/convenience didn't understand why GRX not suitable for someone following your path. Weight? Inappropriate gearing?
Thanks John. Pure aesthetics and cost. It looks like a robust off road system, rather than a sleek road design. If I was to buy new the cost of Rival AXS is not a lot more than GRX and I think it is very superior
Great review! Regarding the headset bearings; With that much of play on the bearing seats what is the most propable problem that can occur and what is the worst?
@@Mapdec Thank you. Regarding the bottom bracket from Token, they have a dealer in Eastern Europe, and according to their site it costs half of what you said (all included). I tried to post this comment two times but it gets deleted.
Frame lacks top tube and down part of the down tube bottle mounts to really be a multi-day endurance bike. Fully internal routing also makes repairs harder. Not so much for you while you're near your workshop, but certainly on a trip. Other than that, which are the same complaints I have about my Merida Scultura Endurance, it's a really nice frame. Enjoy it!

I know this video is a bit old but I was looking at the manual for the bike and it said you must use the look sl3 stem, is that true? Seems to be counterintuitive to limit your stem options for an endurance bike
19:09 First of thanks for all the great content your channel shares. I too bought a 765 based upon your recommendations. Did you ever find a computer mount that fits the LS3 stem?
I do not like the prebuilds very much but I love the green/blueueish chameleon colour, but not available as a frame. 😮💨 But the colour looks much nicer in the video then on photos. Nice Geometry bike - bit like a Cannondale Synapse but without all the stuff noone wants e.g. preintegrated light
My only recommendation for the BB would be a praxis, they use a 37mm OD bearing so you could install a bb90 gxp kit into the praxis shimano BB. Wouldn't be certain it would work but don't see why not. Praxis also do a tool (12 notch) which while still alloy, tends to have a pretty good grip, on top of that it's pretty cheap.
Yes. I did look at praxxis. Very similar to wheels, I couldn’t find info on the tool required other than you must use their own. Do you know if a standard 16 notch fits?
Nah, unfortunately a 16 won't fit, park tool 12 notch will however fit. I don't believe icetoolz have a 12 notch tool (or at least through my distributor).

It’s so weird. The focus peaking lines were showing everywhere. Then this. I was close to filming again, but it is just on the edge. Too much to do. Hope you still enjoyed it.
So you loved the geometry and ride quality of your CX bike, but you didn't like how far back the seating was, so you bought an entirely new bike? To me it looks like your CX bike is using a setback seatpost, with the saddle nearly slammed backwards as well? Considering you're trying to budget for this build, would've been a lot cheaper to just reduce the saddle setback on your existing bike, no? 😉 Just admit to yourself that you like riding new bikes, like the rest of us! 👌
Lol. Of course. I also want my cross bike back as a cross bike. It’s not that I didn’t like it, it more the reason why a road and CX bike are different. The SuperX is quite a short bike.

You could try taking some Teflon thread sealing tape and wrap it around that outer bearing race 2-3 times and put the excess facing up then push the bearing in and trim the excess after. It should sit in there a bit more snug that way.
Good hack, but if this becomes a problem it will be going back.
That's a great looking frame, love how detailed you are in describing the anatomy of it
Thank you. Hope o didn’t go too far
@@Mapdec haha... when are you building it? Are you making a video of the build? If so, I'd love to see it.
Really nice frame and should make a class build. You will feel good riding it.
Great video. I love that frame and it's definitely on my list for when I upgrade. The mudguard mounts are such a great idea, if you do group rides in the winter you should really run with mudguards.. Cheers.
Thanks! 👍
Yes. The gap collects water, it’s nice if it’s not there.
That is a very pretty frame.
That’s still a very good groupset to be putting on I think it will work well 👍😊
Thank you.
Thanks Greg.
Love the frame and looking forward to the build 👍
Thanks Paul
I have the older 765 and the head angle on the 54 is 72. I would like to compare with the new one.
Come try one.
A question for you will the slackness in the head bearings cause chatter in time creating a bigger problem ? i agree the frame has a lovely flowing design .
No. Have you seen the angles Mountain Bikes and gravel bikes are running these days?
@@Mapdec yet the headsets in MTBs are clicking and rubbing sometimes. Even though for them those slack angles fork in favor, helping to locate the bearings in extreme position and making vibrational and dynamic loads smaller in comparison to static.
One might recommend to have preload on the higher side of tolerances, but not sure if it would make a significant difference with that flimsy cable managing compression ring. So, it must be good luck there is no new groupset yet and you will need to rebuild the bike sooner: good reason to inspect the steerer in the meantime.
@@Mapdec if your happy after all its your purchase i wish you hours of great fun with this frame .
Making me want to get the black 766!
Thanks Kevin. Great post as always.
Now that what I call a review. Cheers
Did I go too far?
Not for me, I enjoyed every minute. Great looking frame for sure
their gravel (RS) seems almost identical to this for me. your thoughts please? (I am thinking of buying the endurance and just use it as a gravel bike)
Yes. We have one coming in. Cable routing, BB, tyre clearance, and some added strength (and weight) somewhere in the frame.
Which model of Fast Forward Wheels do you recommend on an endurance bike?
The Ryot 45 are a better compromise of weight and aero, but these 55mm were talking to me seductively
That is a segggsy frame. Looking forward to build.
It has been rumoured.
Woah. Super bike!
Lovely frame although the headset issue is frustrating. So close to perfection! If there's any play once built up I would send it back.
Oh god yes. It’s the first thing I will be fitting.
Don't think this is an issue. The bearings are on a taper (assumption) when they get preloaded, should be good to go. If I'm off here, its not good and Paul might have an early production frame that would be corrected under warranty, or one would hope.
solid choices all around
Thanks James
12:48 Cannondale used sandwich design in the past, I don't know why they went away from it, they had it on Alu frames in the head shock days. The hanger was one part, but had a sandwich design with 2 bolts securing it.
But Nicolai has two plates instead, the hanger is huge on Nicolai, my Heometron/Nicolai G1 has this with Nicolai RADO II, secured with 4 bolts.
… and now they have gone back to it. Flip flop Cannondale.
I did look at the TRP/magura/ electric shift option. That might still be on the cards.
@@Mapdec Magura? What are you reffering to?
You can fit Magura calipers to TRP
@@Mapdec Ok, I was not sure, but I suspected you meant that. I did not know that.
Be aware that the Stack and the Reach that LOOK provides in the website, are calculated including the height of the headset top cap (0,9 cm) and the height of the cable routing spacer (1,5 cm, the one that didn't come with the frame)
Good knowledge Pavlos
A very astute observation Pavlos. Does it mean that another manufacturer without this cable routing spacer (and cap I guess) would have calculated the reach as 609 - 9 - 15 = 585 (for a Large) Sounds quite low for an endurance bike…
@@peters8504 Usually manufacturers provide stack and reach without these parts. For the new Look 765 these parts are necessary for the bike to function. The previous 765 optimum + doesn't have these parts but the stack and reach are almost identical. Check the head tube length for example.
@@pavlosskevofylax906 appreciate the colour. Thanks
What difference does the slightly more relaxed steering head geometry between the Optimum and the Optimum+ mean to the rider?
A slacker head angle results in straight line stability and rough terrain capability and sacrifices tighter cornering and slow speed manoeuvring.
@@Mapdec Thanks much.
Very interesting and informative video and a bike that interests me greatly. However I would be interested to know what changes, if any, you would make for someone who is somewhat heavier than you.
I would probably run 32mm tyres. Maybe use a 42t chainring. Depending on strength.
1x + Classified 😉
Do you know how this frame compares to the 765 Pro Team in terms of geometry, materials and performance characteristics. I have this model, but considering the new Optimum with DB.
I don’t. Sorry.
They are very very minor niggles.
@mapdec great video. Were you able to find an integrated computer mount for the Look stem? I think you mentioned that you thought the Specialized mount might work. Did that work? Thanks!
Oh. Watch this space.
@@MapdecI continue to enjoy your videos. Great stuff. Have not seen an update on the integrated computer mount for the Look LS3 stem. Will continue to watch the space but I purchased a Look 765 and am interested in an integrated mount for my 840. Thanks again!
@@jdorp these fit with a little modification www.magcad-designs.com/products/magcad-garmin-1040-specialized-mount
@@Mapdec Helpful, Thanks!
Hmm, Ekar on an endurance bike would be interesting to test. No idea how much the full groupset costs. Anyway, it’s a great way to save when you can use a groupset from an older bike. Older Sram stuff is compatible with Shimano parts, am I right? Like HG cassettes and such.
It’s complicated… sometimes maybe yes… sometimes maybe 🤬
Maybe might need facing on a sheet of sandpaper glued onto a window glass
Also, I wouldn't trust a seatpost adapter in frames with wedge clamps, as they don't provide even-ish circumferential pressure. But really, it's not hard to find an excellent 27,2 seatpost, new or second hand.
Guess we will see. Ritchey make a good seatpost that would work like this Cannondale on. Pricy though.
Enjoyed as usual. Your conversational style and pacing works well.
Aside from cost/convenience didn't understand why GRX not suitable for someone following your path. Weight? Inappropriate gearing?
Aside...thank you!
Thanks John. Pure aesthetics and cost. It looks like a robust off road system, rather than a sleek road design. If I was to buy new the cost of Rival AXS is not a lot more than GRX and I think it is very superior
Ty for taking additional time out... and v useful insight! Kudos.
Great review! Regarding the headset bearings; With that much of play on the bearing seats what is the most propable problem that can occur and what is the worst?
The only problem is that is somewhere for water to ingress and rust bearings.
@@Mapdec Thank you. Regarding the bottom bracket from Token, they have a dealer in Eastern Europe, and according to their site it costs half of what you said (all included). I tried to post this comment two times but it gets deleted.
Oh weird. Can we get it through Brexit?
@@Mapdec unfortunately, I cant post the name, because UA-cam will delete again. But it shows logical prices for shipping in UK.
Try searching Token Poland
Frame lacks top tube and down part of the down tube bottle mounts to really be a multi-day endurance bike.
Fully internal routing also makes repairs harder. Not so much for you while you're near your workshop, but certainly on a trip.
Other than that, which are the same complaints I have about my Merida Scultura Endurance, it's a really nice frame. Enjoy it!
Umm. The gear cable is a full length of outer. No joins to contend with.
@@Mapdec Now that you're here. To replace headset bearings, can you just disconnect brake lines from levers and reconnect them? Olives and everything else won't need to be replaced? No need to cut?
@membrillo I think you'll find that the Look 765 Gravel RS has the same geometry as this frame, plus the extra mounts you are seeking 👍
Where can you buy this in the UK?
From us if you give us a call.
Hi, have decided on buying the new look 765 black satin frame
I'm confused about the bottom bracket though, is it T47 OR T47i?
T47 internal

I know this video is a bit old but I was looking at the manual for the bike and it said you must use the look sl3 stem, is that true? Seems to be counterintuitive to limit your stem options for an endurance bike
Only if you want that clean cable routing.
@@Mapdeccan the cables still be run internally through the headset just won’t be internal through the stem?
@@jesseschenendorf2896 they are not internal through the stem. Just through the cover that interfaces nicely with the stem.

19:09 First of thanks for all the great content your channel shares. I too bought a 765 based upon your recommendations. Did you ever find a computer mount that fits the LS3 stem?
Yes. Mag Cad for specalised.
@@Mapdec Brilliant. Thank you!
Thanks. It is very different to a synapse. Check the geo chart.
Does the frame-set comes with the stem? If not, which reference is it?
It does not, although your dealer will usually order it with your frame. It is the LOOK LS3 stem
@@Mapdec I believe I would have to order it online. I live in Florida, USA, and there not that many look dealers. It is not popular at all here. Furthermore, some websites say that the frame is not available in the US for technical reasons. Thanks for your quick reply
T47 has been around for nearly ten years. Why is it now taking off?
Very true. Mostly due to the popularity of Dub and the anti pressfit vibe.
Token Poland does send internationally and they have links to better tools than the Park tool one
Good to know. Thanks
I have no idea why people think Campagnolo is so special. I work on bikes all day long. When I tune a Campagnolo bike I’m like “what’s the big whoop?” Then I test ride it after the service and I’m like “man I’m glad I don’t own any of this stuff on any of my bikes”
Romantic nostalgia
Love your videos but would be great if you could get them in focus !
Just admit to yourself that you like riding new bikes, like the rest of us! 👌
Lol. Of course. I also want my cross bike back as a cross bike. It’s not that I didn’t like it, it more the reason why a road and CX bike are different. The SuperX is quite a short bike.
@@Mapdec ah makes sense. Thank you for explaining! Your new frame looks gorgeous BTW 🔥
Slap some tiagra on it and its golden!

Nice frame by the way. I've had my eye on the 765 Gravel RS for the last year or so, because I favour endurance geometry. This one would better match my needs, as I ride road with mudguards all year round.
this or giant tcr advance?
Totally different bikes.
@@Mapdec Hi! thank you for the reply. I have been enjoying your material. I understand the look is more relaxed. But from the point of view of your comment on the advanced tcr (not pro not sl) potentially flexing under load from a heavier / more powerful rider and the look seeming to have a 100kg weight limit, which would be better in this regard? I can get the tcr for 1.8k ultegra and the look frame 1.2k. If you discount everything else it looks like you are paying between 1 to 1.2k for the tcr frame only. Cheers!
@@TheAeroman90 totally different bikes. One is long and slack, one is short and steep.

What size frame is that?
This is a Large. I usually ride a 56cm
@@Mapdec same here. I did a fairly detailed analysis of the geo and know this will work for me. One interesting thing in your vid, now that you confirmed the size, is the proportion of the headtube to the rest of the frame. It doesn't have that ugly head tube that gets fat at the bottom.
