Not a student, someone suffering with achalasia, I got some extra info. It's good to know there are some Drs getting educated on it. It's hard dealing with a whole life change from this invisible disease on it's own, trying to find someone who knows what it is is even harder

can i know what your symptoms were? bc ive been dealing with not being able to eat solids ): it all started with 2 swollen lumps causing me to choke & it would feel like food would get stuck, a month later i started experiencing regurgitation. one of the doctors didn’t take me serious, just kept saying i was having anxiety or to just eat, it can’t be that serious..

    • @AmandaL-he4ku

@@maari01226 it started with more and more lack of appetite and then it kept progressing from food not going down every now and then to everything coming up forcefully and painfully to then even having a hard time keeping liquids down; I constantly want to the doctor for 2 years and kept being told it's in my head. I was almost 300 lb and only 5'1 and only when I lost 75 lb in less than 6 months did they start to kind of take me seriously. It took Angel at a clinic (who was a volunteer) tell me she would bet her whole check on the fact that I have achalasia and ordered me to get the manometry done. They were bringing in everyone on the floor to look at my results as I was doing the test because they said they've never seen it so textbook... This was right after I turned 30 and was recently just married.... Now I am at my 10-year mark of dealing with this condition once I was diagnosed and I've had eight esophagus stretches, 2 Heller myotomy surgeries, and most recently a year ago the POEM surgery; which was unsuccessful and now I have no working muscles left, a lot of scar tissue, still having issues and kind of maintaining but it keeps getting worse so if you're I might be at the end stage of this.... And I'm pretty much being told there's nothing else I can do and just to deal with it.... I turn 40 in January 😟 So if you have a feeling that something is wrong don't give up, be your own advocate, because it took me 2 years to keep fighting just to get someone to take me seriously and there's some great communities and support groups on Facebook but this is literally changed my whole life and his affected everything in my life; good luck and I hope you have someone be able to find what's going on with you

I was Dx with Jackhammer Esophagus after years of GI Dr gaslighting when scoping esophagus, ballooning esophagus based on discomfort described and ultimately disregarding another barium swallow study interpretation of a surgeon. I wanted to share a “less common” symptom I was having & was seen with my Mayo Clinic Dr . I had difficulty swallowing and feeling like something was stuck in my upper throat like a bread ball. They did a swallow study with a benign circular tablet to watch its decent and saw it literally stuck in the middle of the esophagus. Water, applesauce and a viscous liquid couldn’t dislodge it. The fluids just slowly worked around the tablet. I didn’t feel pain mid esophagus~ I felt that bread ball stuck high up in my throat feeling. That is uncommon.
I also had incredibly forceful belching that were so explosive I couldn’t pinch my lips closed to mitigate the abrupt sound. I sounded like an elephant trumpeting from the force of the air escaping. If I couldn’t catch it before erupting I sounded like a guy belching loudly after drinking a carbonated drink!
If laying down or lounging the spasms can happen causing a tight painful chest, then when I sit up or stand I have a cascade of rolling burping which releases the painful pressure that built up.
Also treatment tried was peppermint (didn’t help), not too hot or cold liquids consumed (didn’t affect +\-), but Rx Tadalafil does help relax the spasms the most. I do get random mid chest pain that is crushing & choke often when eating or drinking from intense contraction during swallowing along with stabbing pain mid center back like food is sharp & stuck.

great video, not a student but experiencing strong dysphasia with tired feeling every time I eat with food being stuck feeling but also more recently not being able to swallow saliva laying down and doc think I might be dealing with achalasia, one thing your videos had mentioned was EOE. My son was diagnosed with EOE at 1 year old, soo I am definitely curious of the results with my GI doc. Awaiting Barium swallow test. Awesome Video, fun to watch you have a great approach to explaining the topics you talk about.

I’m so sorry! I got diagnosed a week ago too with delayed motility right in the esophageal area. I am scared also.
My first symptoms were feeling like foods get stuck in my throat, felt like I had a lump, burping, bloating, and later came heartburns.
not sure what that is. I first noticed when my Gabapentin pill got stuck somewhere around my Adam’s apple. I went to get seen and the provider didn’t do shit but give me a GI consult. I went back to my former hospital and they did bloodwork, stool sample, H. Pylori test, and ordered Barium Swallow study which they had right there in the hospital but unfortunately the person who does them wasn’t there. I went to a different hospital a week later bc it was getting worse and that’s where I was diagnosed with delayed motility, no masses, or anything else other than inflammation from the GERD.
My H. Pylori came back positive too, my vitamin D3 was very low as well.
It’s extremely difficult right now bc I have to crush most of the pills for the H pylori treatment, 2 antibx, 2 different acid reducers 4 times a day for 14 days!! I just finished Day 4! I hope I get through this. I get extremely nauseous after my antibiotics even though I take my Zofran. I feel so helpless.🥺🙏🏽

Hi Debbie, I had a barium swallow about 5/6 weeks ago where it showed I have esophageal dysmotility and reflux. So I think my reflux is because of the motility issue. I think a barium swallow can probably show if the hernia got bigger since it was last measured, unless the hernia is under 3cms because I think for smaller ones it’s not a reliable test. Hope this helps.

@@emteav33 Seriously how do you take care of a dysmotility ??? I am trying to understand all this , keep in mind, I NEVER had any G.I. doctor talk to me about any of this . I did have a doctor for barium swallow and he only said this , my hiatal hernia was 2 cms , and that was last year 2023. I like to know how big it is now , so the only way I will know, have a Barium swallow ? I have healed my esophagus , thank goodness. I so far healed my acid reflux by taking Zinc Carnosine, DGL , Slipper Elm , Betaine HCI and probiotics , I followed direction on each bottle . If I can be any help , please leave me a message . I like to know more about Dysmotility . And how a person cares for that .
