Love the explanation of magical reparation. Very useful and relevant to me. I work w many clients in early recovery from addiction. Most of them are in the camp of wanting to dissociate and avoid confrontation w the damage they have done. Others can’t wait to get to Step 9 (in a 12 Step program) to “make amends” (in their narratives it is clear they think this is constituted by a heartfelt apology). I ask them to reflect on the key word amends by asking them to imagine hiring a lawyer to amend a contract. I usually get a belly laugh when they imagine a lawyer apologising to the contract and they see that to amend means to change. (themselves).
We should not confuse reparation with the restauration of an ideal state,actually klein means the opposite,the realization that this ideal state is irreversible gone but we continoue to live in a condition of as if,i have the immpresion in klein the good comes always too late
