The ability of one to elicit feelings in others. It can occur without speech. It can occur behaviorally as evidence by bumping into other to elicit the feeling of being intruded on. I use thomas ogdens definition.

So much on narcissism im discovering... is this because we are now in an era that in another 100 years will be considered a narcissism era?

I used to love Freud's stuff when I was young, but now I find most of it to be laughable. Attachment theories are WAY OVERUSED for too many problems. The Psychoanalytic approach doesn't really help people to get better...as the therapist can project too much onto their patients...it focuses too much on the potential problems and not enough energy on the potential solutions. I do love the concept of projective identification though - the way that malignant narcissists and antisocials attempt to use it on their victims. Things such as cognitive behavioral therapy and some NLP are much more efficient at changing people for the better, in a much shorter period of time.
As I age, I find Carl Jung's work to be much more important and valuable to the field of psychology. Go study what Jung did, it's much more complex, but more practical to use.

Agree regarding Jung. However, there is no Jung without Freud. Further, if Freud is laughable to you, you must be missing something or reading him too literally. Finally, how can you love the concept of projective id in isolation and regard analysis as ineffective? Makes little sense to me.
